It was valentines day, the night of the valentines dance, and this was the first year that Sky had actually got a proper date to go with. She and Ngawaiata had been dating now for a few months and enjoyed spending time with her. It had not really been much of a surprise when they had organised to attend the valentines dance together. They had done all the usual things, met in the entrance hall, had their photos taken, dancing to a song or two before getting a drink and some food, and well, that is when the dance ended. not the date, just the dance. They left the hall and made their way up stars the sound of music fading and the sound of their hushed giggles getting louder as they tried not to drop food off their overfull plates. There was something thrilling about running away from the dance and to spend time with Ngawaiata, which sky wanted just to be theirs not shared with the world. it wasn't that she wanted to do anything other than time to chat, eat and maybe have a hug or even a kiss, but it didn't mean she wanted an audience. It was nice just having some quiet without fighting all the noise and lights and expectations of the dance.
About halfway along the corridor, they reached a door that was unlocked "Lets go in here" she said as she found her way into an empty classroom. one cupboard raid and a few charms later the room was lit in a warm candlelight, and they had soft cushions to sit on. Isn't this cosy" she said, taking a red lolly off the plate nearest to her and eating it.

Ngawaiata knew that such a big change in her situation should have her reeling, but somehow everything with Sky seemed to come easy. She had never thought much about what it would be like to be in a relationship before, but if she had been asked, 'easy' likely wouldn't have been a word that came to her mind at all. There was so much involved - making time to spend together, finding the right things to say, dates and gifts and sweet little moments... It had always all seemed overwhelming. And then Sky had come along, and it had been the most natural thing in the world to spend time with her, go to dances together, talk and laugh and relax the way she never could around most people. She felt like she got it for the first time, why people made such a fuss over relationships.

Even school dances were easy somehow, with Sky. Ngawaiata had never really enjoyed them before, but with someone by her side the noise and chaos somehow melted into the background, and just as it was starting to interfere, Sky had only been too happy for the two of them to ditch. Her face hurt a little from grinning as she followed Sky into the empty room, helping to set up a cosy little spot for them. She settled down once it was done, unconsciously leaning her shoulder slightly into Sky's. "Perfect." She smiled fondly, picking up one of the chocolates and twiddling it in her hand gently.

in the past sky had always enjoyed the dances. The world washi NY around her. All the colours and music and sounds consuming her like an ocean and she was playing in the waves. But with ngawaiata she liked the cool peace and calmness. So that she could enjoy being with her without too many destructions. Or maybe it was just they way that they worked together from back when they were hanging out in the arts club room.
Sky felt Ngawaiata's shoulder pressing against hers she pressed back smiling as she rested her head against Ngawaiata, a smile playing on her lips. "thank you" she said. her fingers wrapping around the long fringe of her dress. you smell like coconut, fresh air, something sweet and floral and umm magenta she said. It’s nice. She added almost unnecessary. Not minding if it would flow into conversation or just be a comfortable quiet.

Ngawaiata had just put the chocolate in her mouth when Sky spoke, glancing at the older girl in surprise. "Oh..." She said softly, swallowing the chocolate quickly. She had never really thought about what she must smell like before, but it only took a moment to make sense. "Must be my shampoo..." She explained, heart fluttering a little. Sky was so close, and it was a mix of comforting and exciting. She smiled a little shyly, looking down at the Hufflepuff. "You're so pretty..." She murmured.

sky smiled and nodded slightly as Ngawaiata said that it was probably her shampoo. "the coconut and floral probably is" she said the outside was probably just that. and the magenta. what was just her.
When ngawaiata said that she was pretty she looked at her unable to his thebquizical expression on her face. Pretty was not something she had often been called or a word that had ever associated with herself. Pretty was for other people. She was more comfortable with unique or quirky or weird or odd. But somehow coming from ngawaiata it felt right. thank you. But wait until you see my girlfriend. She is absolutely beautiful. She said.
