Rory had not been expecting mail today, so why he was taking the steps two at a time to the owlery he could not say. The main reason was, undoubtebly, because he was hiding. The common room was full of Ravenclaws older than him, and much bigger, too. Rory had trouble around other people, though he couldn't explain why he felt so intimidated in their presence. Perhaps, he guessed, it was just one of those things. He chuckled, noticing that this was something his Father would say. His Father had always been quite relaxed, no matter what situation he had found himself in. Unfortunately, this had not particularly rubbed off onto Rory, who was frightened of too many things. The young Ravenclaw wanted to be brave, heroic, to do something big. But what that was, he had not yet discovered.
The door to the owlery burst open as Rory flung himself inside, his face flushed and the blood racing around his body furiously. He took a little more care closing the heavy door, as he didn't want to attract too much attention to himself, and turned to look at the owls.
Owls were perched all the way up the walls of the room, and Rory smiled. At least they wouldn't judge him for hiding here. In a way, animals were a better friend to him than humans.
'Hey,' Rory muttered softly to an owl who had just flown in through the window. There was a piece of parchment strung to the owls foot, with 'Rory Dewan' printed clearly on the front. Rory looked around, slightly shocked. Surely there was only one Rory Dewan at Hogwarts. He unstrung the parchment, narrowly avoiding getting a nasty nip from the owl, and unfolded it.

Dear Rory,
How's Hogwarts? I do hope I've spelled that correctly! All this magical business of yours confuses me. I'm obviously too old to understand that sort of thing.
I have some good news for you. Your Father wanted me to wait until you got back from school, but that's months away, and then the news would have come as an even bigger shock for you. He agreed eventually that this is something you should know about as soon as possible.
Don't be worried - it's nothing bad! You're probably expecting to be told off, since it's me instead of your Father writing this letter!
Rory blushed, since he had been wide eyed in fear that he had done something very wrong indeed. A little more relaxed, but still very excited, he read on.
The thing is, last week I went to the doctors and.. You're going to have a little sister!
I hope you're as excited as I am about this! Your own little sister. Isn't it the best thing you could ever have asked for?
I just can't wait to see you when you return.
Keep safe,
Mother
A shocked squeak left Rory before he could control it. He was going to have a sister? But.. surely this wasn't true! It must have been a joke. This letter must be to another Rory Dewan. He folded it up neatly, his heart hammering. This was impossible.
Rory slumped down into the hay, his mind racing. If it was really true.. Rory didn't know. He had no idea how much time had passed when the door opened, and he was too startled to speak.
