Larissa woke up early that morning.
Outside, the grass was crunchy and the chill in the air told her that snow was due any day now.
As she walked across the grounds to the Owlery, she wondered if anyone else would be up at this hour.
Seven in the morning and Larissa arrived at the Owlery, her stomach giving a slight rumble.
She held her hand out and a school owl that seemed wide awake fluttered down to her hand where it perched and stuck out its leg for a letter.
Larissa slipped the rolled up letter round the owl's leg and then walked over to the window where the owl took flight.
She had written home to her mother about staying at Robert's house for the holiday and, although she doubted her mum would even care where she was, Larissa had added I will not take NO for answer.
