Melrose tried not to grip his broom too tightly as he listened to Pearl address the team. They were returning to the season as International Champions this year but the victory seemed to have mostly served to just make Melrose feel more queasy than usual whenever he was on a broom. The team had...
Even with their advantage Melrose still wasn't feeling confident about scoring, especially after taking that bludger hit earlier. Glancing to his side, he passed the quaffle over to @Zoey Hawkins.
Rule 2b
Melrose's earlier guess had been right, with the French team harried by bludgers and their side outnumbering them, it was easy for him to move his broom with the other Ilvermorny chasers and scoop up the quaffle before Beauxbatons could get a hand on it.
Melrose lurked closer to the end of the pitch, wondering with Beauxbaton's down a chaser if there wasn't an angle they could work to nab the quaffle before the French chasers got a chance.
With Beauxbaton's down a chaser, Melrose suddenly found himself wishing Quidditch was played with larger teams, at least then he'd be a bit less noticeable when he kept missing his shots. Instead he lurked uneasily near the hoops, watching as the French chaser threw the quaffle back into play.
Melrose gripped the quaffle tighter as game was resumed, more than impressed with Ocean and Larissa today. With Beauxbatons' keeper looking a little worse for wear already and them down a chaser, he was hopeful he could get in another shot but fumbled the quaffle again as his own bludger injury...
Still aching from the hit earlier, Melrose turned to Hadrian with unsteady arms. It would be great to score again, but the fear of missing and handing Beauxbatons the lead was too great and Melrose gladly passed the quaffle over to @Hadrian Murphy instead.
Melrose was relieved when the French chaser didn't make her shot, glad that Beauxbatons hadn't managed to pull into the lead yet. Grabbing the quaffle, he nervously eyed the hoops across the pitch.
Melrose doubted Larissa did it on purpose (in fact he wasn't even totally sure she knew he existed), but he still appreciated when she returned a bludger right back to the French girl who'd just hit him, still hanging back as he tried to catch his breath.
Melrose was sticking with Hadrian, nodding hesitantly when he saw Hadrian was lining up a pass. He realized belatedly he should have forced Hadrian to take the shot instead, his broom jerking dramatically as he was trying to line up a shot as the quaffle came into his hands. The bludger stung...
Melrose bit back a groan when Beauxbaton's chaser managed to score immediately. At least Hadrian had the quaffle now and Larissa was doing a good job of finishing what that French beater had started for them in taking out the other seeker. Hopefully they just had to hold on a little longer...
Melrose was glad the attention from his failed goal was quickly diverted when Beauxbaton's managed to hit their own seeker, though he winced in second-hand sympathetic embarrassment even if they were the opposing team as he waited for the quaffle to be thrown back in.
Melrose was feeling a little bolder with Hadrian backing him up, doubly so when Ocean sent another bludger into the French keeper too. It still wasn't enough for Melrose to score however, his hands fumbling the shot as he tried to quickly get in a goal before the keeper could recover.
Seeing Ocean take out one of the beaters was a surprise, but he hoped it would help Nabi nab them the snitch. It also meant Beauxbaton's chasers were all mixed up which made it much easier for Melrose to sneak in from the side and wrest the quaffle away from the French chaser once again as play...
Managing to steal the quaffle had been great but Melrose didn't like his chances of getting it all the way to the opposing goals. Hands sweaty, he passed the quaffle quick to Hadrian, hoping his teammate would have better luck.
Rule 2a
Melrose stuck with Hadrian mostly following his lead as they chased after the French team with the quaffle. Except if Hadrian stayed on the Beauxbaton's player's tail that left him completely open for Melrose to come in from the side. He hesitated for a moment, catching Hadrian's eye...
Melrose backed up and away from the hoops, wondering if maybe he could be an obstruction to the French players if nothing else as they waited for the quaffle to be thrown back in.
Melrose didn't expect lightning to strike twice as he approached the Beauxbaton's hoops but it still stung when his shot was blocked. He tried his best not to glance at Zoey or Hadrian and he floated back from the hoops dejectedly.
