Second Years, Week Two [Jelly Leg Jinx]

Professor Adler had almost finished restocking the cabinet that sat along the side of the classroom when the second years turned up for their next lesson. She wanted to make sure that any student, regardless of whether she was teaching them, had access to the basic necessities any student might need throughout the term. The drawers were filled with tissues, plasters, wipes and deodorant. Spare hand cream and sanitizing lotions, hair clips and products for the girls, and even extra pieces of parchment, fresh notebooks and multicoloured pens. It was free for all, and the mother in her was keen to make sure the students felt as though they had anything they could need.

"Good morning," the woman smiled as the students took their seats, although she was quick to jump into this lesson. "I hope everyone has brought their wands with them today?" If any student had left theirs behind, this was going to more than a little tricky for them. "We'll be practicing our first spell of the semester, so please make sure you're aware of those around you." Geo knew this would be the chance for her to show the second year how she preferred to teach. The professor was stood next to a dummy at the front of the classroom, and it was on this that the blonde now pointed her wand. "Locomotor Wibbly!" She said clearly, and suddenly the legs of the dummy began to shake. "The Jelly-Leg Jinx causes the victims legs to turn to jelly, which could make it very hard for your victim to stay upright," excellent in a duel, if it came to it.

"I would like you work on this spell today but you have a choice. Either you can come to the front of the class, and practice on the dummies I have available for you in here. You can practice casting the spell and I can help if you run into any trouble. However, if you would prefer a more theoretical approach, I would like you to stay at your desk and write an essay on the uses of this spell, either option is fine." She knew not everyone would have an interest in the practical elements. "If you choose to practice the spell, you can use Finite to stop the effect." In some way, the counter-curse was even more important. "For those of you who feel like you're missing out by not casting this on a real person, please come and speak to me at the end of the lesson. Once you've done either of these, you can leave!" Geo smiled, moving to help the students that wanted to practice on the dummies at the front of the room.

Hinemoa had been buzzing all week about getting the chance to practice a jinx. She was excited when she took her seat for class, wand already in her hand. She listened as Professor Adler-Cade demonstrated, giggling slightly at the sight of the dummy's legs wibbling and wobbling. When the time came for them to give it a go she jumped to her feet and hurried over to a dummy. Hinemoa spent the rest of class practicing on the dummy, able to get the spell to work every time after a couple of tries. She was tempted by the prospect of trying it on a real person, but she was also hungry, and after weighing up the options decided that the Great Hall was calling her name instead.

Nico walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and took his usual spot in the room. he glanced at the professor as the woman began going over the jelly leg jinx, and he took a few notes about what the spell was and what it did. He took his wand and faced off against one of the dummies. He held it out and said "Locomotor Wibbly," he took a few attemtps but did eventually manage to get the spell to work. Nico was very pleased with himself when he managed it.

The week flew by quickly, and Defense Against the Dark Arts arrived. Zack was looking forward to it, because he wanted to find out as soon as possible what new things the professor would teach. He settled into his previous seat, then waited for the class to start and took out all the necessary wands and notes. It didn't take long for the professor to start the class. Zack wrote down everything that was said.

Then they were given the opportunity to try the spell. He tried about three times and dummies until the spell worked. Zack did it until the end of the class, when the class ended he put his things in his bag, said goodbye to the professor and left the classroom.
