Lysander was hyped for the duelling tournament. He’d surprised himself by winning the previous year, but he figured it had to have been because he was destined to be a very powerful hero, so of course he’d won. He’d been looking forward to trying again ever since. Hopping up to his position on the platform, the boy turned to face his opponent, a silly grin on his face. He bowed, and raised his wand quickly. “Expelliarmus!” He shouted, going for something simple and easy.

Juniper was surprised she had signed herself up for the dueling tournament, as she never really participated in any school activity. However, if she succeeded in any way, it would definitely be a one up to Adorah and maybe get her nagging sister off her back. She knew of Lysander from classes but had never spoken to the boy and rolled her eyes when she saw him grinning at her. She bowed and got into position as Lysander tried to disarm. She blocked his spell and shouted, "Rictusempra!" If he thought dueling was a happy activity, maybe this would make him reconsider.

Lysander thought it would’ve been cool to win the duel in one spell, but honestly, he was quite glad that Juniper blocked it. Like Quidditch, with how often Willow caught the snitch, duelling wouldn’t be as fun if it ended too soon. “Protego!” He shouted, conjuring up a shield to protect him from her spell. As it disappeared he fired back with a jelly fingers curse.

Juniper huffed when Lysander blocked her spell. She had only attempted dueling in the DA, but this had much more pressure on it. If she lost, the whole school would know. She stopped her spiraling thought process and narrowly missed blocking the curse as she sent back the slug vomiting curse.

Lysander has to be quick to throw up another shield, in order to avoid throwing up some slugs. It was the spell he’d won against Ajaccio with, and he’d seen first hand how unpleasant it was. It wasn’t a spell he wanted to be on the wrong end of. “Tarantallegra!” He shot back, hoping the dancing spell would keep things fun.

Juniper gave out a laugh when she heard her opponent try to make her dance and almost missed blocking his jinx. She really needed to focus more, but she was very easily distracted. She thought for a quick moment and then called out, "Petrificus Totalus!"

Lysander was disappointed that his spell hadn't worked. Luckily, Juniper's spell was a mouthful, and he had extra time to throw up another shield. He laughed and fired back with a jellylegs jinx.

Juniper was already tired of the dueling and kind of bored. She blocked Lysander's spell and shot back something simple to try and throw him off his game. "Expelliarmus!"

“Protego!” Sander shouted, blocking the incoming disarming spell in time. He breathed a sigh of relief, and had to wonder if he’d be able to somehow hold on tightly enough if it had hit him. He had a lot of experience hitting bludgers, so he figured he was totally strong enough. It wasn’t a theory worth exploring in the middle of the tournament, and he followed it up with a stupefy.

Juniper blocked the Gryffindor's spell and shouted back at him. "You ready to give up?" She waved her wand and attempted to knock the boy off his feet. "Everte Statum!"

Lysander didn’t have time to retort before he was thrown backwards across the platform. He gripped his wand tightly to his chest, afraid he’d drop it, and scrambled back to his feet. “I’m a champion! I’m never gonna give up!” He said, his cheeks flushing red at his less impressive it sounded after he’d taken a tumble. He waved his wand, and shot back with a knee-reversal hex.

Juniper was glad to see her spell hit her opponent and rolled her eyes when he said he was a champion. She thought some of these boys were so full of themselves. She quickly blocked his curse and attempted to stun the Gryffindor.

Lysander managed another shield in time, still reeling from the spell he’d been hit by. He shook his arms out to get the blood pumping, and waved his wand again. “Expelliarmus!”

Juniper hoped that his opponent was starting to tire or maybe he would make a mistake. "Protego," she snapped. She tried sending a jelly fingers curse back.

Lysander gave the girl a half smile and conjured another shield. She didn’t seem too happy, though he hadn’t learned the cheering charm yet to have a chance to try it out. He did want to try a bit of a tougher spell though, and waved his wand, casting a jelly-brain jinx.

Juniper wasn't familiar with the spell Lysander shot back at her but still managed to block it. She twisted her mouth and attempted the slug vomiting curse again.

The slug vomiting curse was the one spell Lysander didn’t want to suffer through, not after watching Ajax in the Hospital Wing. They’d made a joke out of it, but it still didn’t look fun. He conjured a panicked shield, a little more forcefully than he’d intended to make sure he wasn’t hit. It almost knocked him off balance himself, but he stood his ground and waved his wand when it dissipated. “Come on, have some fun! Rictusempra!” He shouted, sending the tickling charm her way.

Juniper frowned when the boy blocked her spell and was too distracted by his comment to block him. She felt a sudden wave of laughter hit her and then felt it keep pouring out of her. Laughing this hard physically hurt, and she managed to throw a weak stunning spell at him. "F-f-f-finite," she giggled as she finally stopped laughing and grabbed a few breaths.

Lysander pumped his fist in the air when his spell succeeded. “Yeah! Woah, protego.” He shouted, surprised she’d managed a spell through her laughter. It almost caught him off guard, though thankfully it didn’t require too much effort to block. He chuckled awkwardly, realising how close that had been. “Petrificus Totalus!” He followed up, shouting the spell as quickly as he could manage.

Juniper had just managed to capture enough air again when her opponent didn't back down. "Protego!" she shouted as she quickly ran through the options in her head. She knew they were nearing the end, and she hoped to get in at least one more hit. She used the slug vomiting curse for the third time because for some reason, she was determined for it to be successful.

Lysander couldn't believe that of all the spells he didn't want to be hit by, Juniper was using it three times. Three. All he needed was one slip u, and he'd be puking slugs for an hour or more. He frantically threw up another shield, no longer worrying about the spells he wanted to use. "Stupefy!" He shouted, hoping to put a stop to it sooner rather than later.

Juniper smirked when Lysander shielded her charm. She really never thought joining a club would be fruitful, but the whole idea of a dueling tournament had changed her mind. She was glad to have entered this year... even if she didn't end up victorious. This dueling thing was fun, but it definitely was exhausting. She shielded his stunning charm and threw the jelly fingers curse at him.

Katherine silently spectated her grandson's duel. It was difficult, not being allowed a relationship with either of her grandchildren, though she'd watched him do well the previous year, and kept her pride at a distance. Normally, the Headmistress wasn't inclined to take a side, however, she did want to see her children's children succeed, and watched on with passive interest.

The duel was long. Longer than his previous ones had been, maybe. He'd thought for sure that, being the champion, he would've won by now. He had to be one of the best, right? He even had a medal and everything. Frowning, he held his wand with two hands now, as if it would make his magic twice as powerful. "Protego!" He shouted. The shield was not as powerful and strong as he would have liked since he'd changed up tactics, but he didn't release his grip with both hands, and jumped to the side, firing another jelly-brain jinx and hoping to catch Juniper off guard.
