Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.

The duel begins now. You have 24 hours to post, or face disqualification. Ensure that you use the spell list for guidance on age-appropriate spells, and read over the dueling rules and points system. If you are knocked out or otherwise disarmed/incapacitated, or if you run out of points, you will lose and the duel will end. Have fun!
As an added note: Spectators are allowed to post in this topic once per competitors post, but are forbidden from directly interfering with the duels.

Ava didn’t want to suggest she was the reason practically no one else in her year had signed up for duelling, nor did she entertain the idea that that wasn’t the case. The number had dropped dramatically, and for a while, Ava wondered if another name would ever appear on the list. A win by default wasn’t a win she felt was earned, so she was pleased to be paired with someone finally. She took her position on the platform and faced the girl, dipping into a brief bow. As she raised herself back up, so too did she raise her wand, aiming to get a spell in first. “Confringo.”

The latina skipped the theatric of a bow and got right into defending herself. She blocked and sent a stunning spell spiraling out from the tip of her wand.

Ava’s eyes narrowed on the girl, who thought herself above duelling tradition. Very well. She raised her wand to block the oncoming spell, and followed it up with a slashing motion. “Diffindo.”

Sydney had been looking forward to watching this duel since last year, eager to see Ava back in action against an opponent that wasn't herself, as interesting as that had been. She didn't have a very high opinion of Jenna Toubia either, only distantly knowing her from her house, and hoped Ava would put on as interesting a match this year as she had last year.

Jenna quickly blocks the incoming attack, a sheild protected her from getting gutted. The latina pointed at her opponent's face and shouted, "Densaugeo," aiming for those pearly whites. "You tried it mija, you're not winning this!"

There was such a thing as overconfidence, and Ava could tell it would be her opponents downfall. She barely knew who she was, or why she thought she stood a fraction of a chance, but she did know that she wasn’t in any danger of losing to her. Ava raised another shield with practiced ease, and struck with her wand again. “Confringo.” It was a dangerous spell, a curse by the Ministrys standard, but what were duels without danger?

"Estúpida! Are you trying to kill me," Jenna conjured another sheild, the force of her opponent's attack shoved her some behind the invisible wall. Jenna shot back a scalping hex follow by obscuro. "Toma eso," Jenna mused.

Sydney admired how unflappable Ava seemed, especially compared to Jenna's own confidence. It was interesting to watch them trade blows, though Sydney felt her eyebrows raise when Jenna seemed to have gotten frustrated enough to try and cheat. Making a note of it for her HM coverage later, Sydney clicked her tongue, hoping Ava would be able to put her in her place without Styx need to step in.

Ava retaliated with a simple hex-deflection spell to defend herself from the girl's first move, though, not expecting an outright cheat in an official tournament, she wasn't entirely prepared for the follow up attack. Ava already assumed her opponent was ignorant to the traditions of duelling, given her lack of respect in bowing, yet now it seemed she had a total and flippant disregard for the rules as a whole. Ava hadn't seen the other girl during her previous year's duels, and now, she was sure she understood why. Ava raised her wand again, then let it falter, not having enough time to conjure another shield. The blindfold settled over her eyes, and she brought her wand back up once again. She didn't need to see to beat this girl. "Apis." One, two, three, then suddenly, a swarm of agitated bees were conjured into existence, headed with an air of angry buzzing for the opposite side of the platform. Ava hadn't been trying to kill Toubia before, but now, she was happy to feign ignorance if the girl happened to be highly allergic.

Of course. Professor Styx gave out a sigh as he flicked his wand, ending the curse on the Ravenclaw while also making the bees vanish with small pops before they reached his Slytherin. "Due to Toubia's blatant disregards for the rules, she is disqualified." He was more than ready to dish out more punishment if needed, though.
 
Jenna next move what of been something to do with fire. A spell to scorch the bees from existence would've done nicely. Due to her own arrogance, Jenna didn't have to lift her wand to defend herself again. The latina shrugs, brushing a lock of brunette hair behind her ear. Jenna left the duelling chamber without saying another word.
