Odette had been captain for a year now, and she was getting used to the responsibility of the position. Talking to Marisol last year had helped her a little, and she felt more confident than she had in the previous year. Slytherin hadn't done very well last year, but she was determined to do better than third place now. Two of the other teams had new captains, so she hoped her year of experience would help her out in that regard. She hoped that she would be able to write to Asaiah and Charlotte that things were going well with the team, and that her being captain wasn't some sort of colossal mistake. She was determined not to think about anything sad today, focusing only on the try-outs. She needed to pick the best people for her team so they could thrive.

Odette waited at the Quidditch pitch, wearing her Slytherin Quidditch robes. She gave the team a confident smile when they arrived, feeling a lot less nervous about leading them this year. Even with their third place last year, she knew she deserved her badge. She nodded to the returning team members before addresing the new faces. "Good morning. I'm Odette Harper and I'm the captain of the Slytherin team. I'm also one of the beaters. If you're here to try out, please tell me your name and the position you want to try out for. If the position you want to play is already taken, don't be discouraged. The team needs alternates to function in case players are taken out, and some players may not have returned for this year. Then she nodded at her teammates. "The current members on the team will practice and are available to help you with your try-out." She paused, thinking over her speech and trying to decide if she had said anything that was needed. We can begin." She declared. The girl looked critically at the potential members of the team, trying to predict which would be the best ones. But their appearance didn't matter. It only mattered what they did in the air.

OOCOut of Character:
Players from the previous year are guaranteed their spot without needing to try out again - as long as attendance is posted before try-outs are over. Alternates, however, will need to try out again.

First years are required to PM me for approval before attempting to try out.

Of course Rory now felt more bitter than ever that he wasn't the captain of the Slytherin team, but he needed to keep his position on the team more than ever. He was staring down the barrel of either get on a team before the years end or he had no sort of real future. He didn't and had never quite gotten good grades and now would certainly be too late for that. Rory got to the pitch, a slightly tired expression on his face, he had far more on his mind that ever before. He looked to the captain as she gave her usual speech and then allowed them to get started. He got on his broom and shot up into the air. He would enjoy the practice. Of course he would, flying always managed to clear his head.

Sapphire yawned as she came onto the Quidditch field. She'd been up most last night worrying about today, and her brother hadn't been able to talk her out of it. She smiled at Odette as she took her place with the others. "Sapphire Michaels. Alternate Beater." She announced when it was her turn, though she was half sure Odette knew that already. She kicked off and joined the others in the air.

Bat in hand, Sapphire set out. She shot like a flash through the other players, dodging them with ease. She still didn't like hitting other players. Instead, she hit the bludgers through the nearest hoop. Her aim had improved a bit since last year, and she was better adjusted to the bludger's unpredictability. She wasn't exactly counting, but she was sure she probably missed one in every seven hits. Her speed was both her greatest asset and her biggest weakness. She managed to adjust quickly, but she had the passing thought that if she slowed down she would hit the ball more, have more time to predict and adjust before rather than after. But then she thought if she slowed down it would give other players the chance to get in her way.

The practice was long and grueling, but Sapphire was happy when she landed. Whether she made the team or not, she'd done her best and she was happy with it. She felt much better now that it was over with. She still wanted to make the team, of course. She waved to Odette as she left the field with the others. She thought about heading up to the Gryffindor floor. There were a few of the cubs she wouldn't mind running in to.

Liam had to admit to himself that he was a bit nervous for this try out. He wasn't sure if he could keep his position because he had been playing really really bad. He was true to himself, and not that he would ever tell anyone that. But he was gonna do everything to be one of the best beaters ever this year. And when he noticed Odette he gave her the same charming smile that he gave every girl. He greeted the other team members that he knew from last year. When he saw his name as a beater he smiled bright. Odette gave him a chance and perhaps they all believed in him. Too bad for Sapphire who had played one game instead of him. He thought and smirked. Together with Odette he was gonna beat everyoneee. Liam grinned and felt like the man of the world again. This gave him confidence. And he was gonna enjoy this try out. He was wondering who was gonna try out today. But nobody could ruin his day anymore at least.

A new year. A new term. Leda was already in her fourth year and quite frankly the sooner she was done with school the better. The holidays and had been the worst for the Slytherin, and after the loss of both her parent and now her sister, Leda was doing her best to put on a mask to those at Hogwarts that she was indeed still in one piece. She wouldn't allow herself to be seen as lonely, she didn't need anyone's pity. Olive had left to tend to their mother and Leda was just going to have to face the term alone. It had been offered to the red head to transfer to Ilvermorny but Leda was having none of it. There was enough change in the air without losing her best friend as well.

One thing that remained the same however was her role in Quidditch. After joining her team in the field, she was unusual quiet it kept her head held high, doing her best to catch the snitch as frequently as she could. Shed already won for the team once so she could definitely do it again.

Derek had decided in a moment of perhaps madness that he would try to join the quidditch team. He wasn’t a huge fan of quidditch but he figured that it might not be a bad idea to just join the team. He liked rugby more but part of the slytherin team would be nice, and as his grandfather said it would help him overall. So, Derek had decided that he would give a shot. What harm would it really do him to try. He was a fair flier and he had always been good at throwing things, so there was no reason for him to not be good at quidditch. The teen arrived at the quidditch pitch and he glanced at the other people at it. He couldn’t help but think of who the others were and which position he would be good at. He didn’t want to be a beater, that seemed boring to him, and he didn’t think a keeper would be a good idea for him either. Either chaser or seeker would be best, but perhaps he wouldn’t be allowed to try out for two positions. He didn’t really mind. He waited till others had stepped forward, ”Derek Tahana, Chaser, I guess, I play rugby a lot, so whatever that equates to,” maybe it was a long winded way of describing it, but Derek wasn’t that affect by it, he just took the broom he’d grabbed and flew up into the air.
It took him a few moments to get his bearings in the air, but he was ready within a few minutes. The teen flew around, joining a group of chasers, and taking the ball as it was thrown out to him. He held it tightly under his arm and then threw it to someone else when they got close to the hoops. He didn’t feel all that confident about scoring, the hoops seemed more daunting that the poles in rugby. The boy was pretty good at catching the ball when it thrown to him, only a couple of fumbles and his throws could do a little work, throwing the ball forward was a little more difficult to him than throwing it backwards. Derek liked it though, he surprised himself by how much he did actually enjoy the sport, maybe he’d been dragging his heels in a little much. The teen tried scoring a few times, but he’d only managed to get the ball through the hoop once. It was trickier, he could definitely see where he might need a little more practice but the boy had definitely enjoyed himself. He flew back down to the ground, maybe not having managed to get on the team, but with a reviewed opinion on the sport entirely.

Cole Dragonov got his broom in hand and was ready to try out for the team this year. He wanted to take part since he felt it was in his blood and his right. He walked onto the pitch with a confident smile on his lips. He approached the captain after she was finished giving orders. He introduced himself, “Cole Dragonov, and I am trying out for beater.” His mother was a beater, so he figured that he would have that gift within him, though he had not had much practice with it other than some messing around on the pitch when none of the teams were practicing or playing. His only regret was not trying out two years ago. Hopefully, he would be able to play some anyway.

He mounted his broom and headed up. He did not need to warm up with laps since his ego prevented him from doing so. He swung the bat in his arm to loosen his shoulder muscle before going after the bludgers to protect the chasers as they tried out. He managed to protect a few of them, but by the time the try out was over, his shoulder and arm were throbbing with pain. He landed and left the pitch, feeling good that he tried out, and hoped to be used at some point.

Sara was more than ready for the new year, she had gone home during the holidays as usual except every time seemed to be a little different. It was going to be a challenge being the oldest Benivieni at the school now that Leo too had graduated. It felt strange, as all of her siblings were now out of school, but at the same time she still had family at Hogwarts. Moreover, Sara had bigger responsibilities - she was a prefect and in her fifth year, which meant the beginning of OWL year. The girl sighed and grabbed her broom before she headed down to the pitch and met her fellow team members for the tryouts. There was no way she was losing her spot on the team this year, quidditch was something she couldn’t give up, especially not now. She had to make her brothers and sister proud. She listened to Odette and once she gave the signal Sara flew up into the air and did a few laps, before she stopped to observe the new players. She aided those who needed or asked for it, trying to give the best advice with some encouragement.

Mordred Cavanaugh was beyond excited to try out for the Quidditch team. He felt like he would do well in any position, but he was most confident with Keeper or Seeker. He felt like either one of those would be good. Surprisingly, Mordred did not have his own broom, so he had to use one of the school ones, which he did not mind at all. His father would be disappointed that he wasn't using one of the brooms produced by the company the Cavanaugh family owned. However, Mordred was not here to impress his father. He was here to play the sport that he loved. The first year went up to the captain. "Mordred Cavanaugh. Trying out for Keeper mostly, but whatever you want really." he told her in a small voice. In front of the girl he had gotten shy, but he was not going to let that hinder him in the air.

Mordred got onto his broom and kicked off into the air and flew to one of the lower hoops. He had flown on a broom before because his father felt that a man that did not know how to fly was not a man at all. There was always room for improvement. He enjoyed being off the ground. It made him feel free, like no one could stop him. He maneuvered to the right to catch a quaffle that was thrown at his hoop. Once he caught it, he threw it back into play. There were a lot of people trying out for Chaser. He could simply tell by how many quaffles were coming towards him, not all he was able to catch. However, Mordred was doing his best by hitting quaffles away with the end of his broom and catching others with his free hand. He was getting exhausted after a while, but then the try-outs were over. Mordred flew down to the ground.

Blake was READY for Quidditch this year. He had had to ask for permission to try out, but he was gonna nail it, because he was awesome. Obviously. He usually trained with Dad for Hockey, but Mum had taught him as much as she could about flying, and he felt prepared. How different could Quidditch be from Hockey? He had been going to games his whole life, and Blake knew he was ready to make the team. "Blake Irons, trying out for Seeker!" He said confidently, before mounting his broom. This was gonna be perfect. Obviously Blake was trying out to be the main guy. What other position was worthwhile?

Kicking off into the air Blake wobbled a bit but held steady, turning his gaze around the pitch. It was strange looking for something in so much space, the hockey rink was much easier to navigate, but he quickly got his bearings. Zipping under and around other players at what felt like breakneck pace, Blake began searching the pitch for the snitch. There was so much going on in the game, it was easy to get distracted. He kept a good grip on his broom as he flew around, his wobbles lessening as he got more used to the conditions with so many other flyers around. After what felt like an age, Blake spotted a glimmer of gold near the Hufflepuff stands. Crouching down to go faster, Blake pushed his broom to the highest speed he could manage, almost colliding with the stands in his hurry. The end of his broom clipped the metal as he tried to pull up too late, and Blake had to cling to the broom with all of his strength as it spun out of control, but in his free hand he could feel the triumph of the snitch clutched in his fingers. He had done it! Imagining himself getting cheered as he won the game, Blake flew back down to the captain, grinning with all his might. He was gonna be an absolute champion. He was sure of it.

Hayden was now in his final year at Hogwarts which meant it was his last chance at success on the Quidditch pitch. The team had some some promise towards the end of the previous season and he hoped with some strong new players they would be able to continue that and go on to potentially win a championship. After spending the morning polishing his broom and snacking on sweets in his dorm Hayden made his way down to the Quidditch pitch where he joined Odette and his teammates while he waited for the hopefuls to arrive.
