Y31 Dueling Match #10

[Kennedy Pratt]

Kennedy led the two contestants onto the platform where they would be dueling and appointed them to the north and south ends of the stage, respectively. Once she explained the rules and the points system to them, she walked off the stage and let them begin when they were ready.

Please use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

April was determined to do better this year than she had the previous year. She wanted to win! Last time, Gideon had beaten her at the last moment. It really wasn't fair. So now, she had to do better! The girl had even looked up spells to use beforehand, hoping that they would stick in her memory. She knew October was also competing, and thought it would be great if they both won for theiy year group. She waved at the Gryffindor girl she was supposed to duel, then remembered to bow. She pointed her wand at her. "Expelliarmus!" It wasn't the most creative start, but she would just blurt out the first spell that came to mind.

Jess was a little nervous about dueling but after going so long without doing any proper magic save for the recent few weeks in the classroom Jess needed to dust off her skills. She bowed to her opponent who had waved at her first. April was adorable but for now they were opponents and she wanted to beat her, perhaps after she could properly befriend the Hufflepuff. Jess cast a shielding charm to block the girls first spell and cast her own stunning at her.

April wasn't too surprised when her first spell didn't do anything. She hadn't expected the duel to be over so quickly. She didn't really know the other girl aside from the fact that she was on the Quidditch team, and was curious at how well she would do in this duel. April jumped out of the way of the girl's stunning spell, then twirled before sending a spell back. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Jess cast a shielding charm to block the spell April cast at her which was lucky as it would have put her out of action and the duel would have been over before it had even begun. She kept her wand raised and shot a trip jinx at the girl.

April had been so busy thinking of what spell she should try next, that she didn't think to block Jessica's spell. She tried to once again dodge it, but the spell hit and caused her to trip rather than leap out of the way. She yelped in pain as she fell, her knees hitting the stage. "Ow!" She had managed to keep hold of her wand, though, and quickly shot a spell at Jessica from her position on the ground. "Stupefy!"

Jess felt kind of bad when her spell hit April and she fell to the ground with an audible expression of pain. "Sorry," She called to the Hufflepuff though felt stupid for doing so, it was the whole point. When April shot a stunning spell at her Jess was able to cast a shielding charm and aimed her wand at the girl who was currently still on the ground. "Expelliarmus,"

April shrugged in respond to the girl's apology. It was a duel, she didn't think it was bad for the girl to be aiming spells at her. She just wished she had moved more quickly. As the Gryffindor shielded herself from the spell, April got to her feet and quickly threw up her own shield charm to block the next spell Jessica would throw at her. She smiled as it was successful. She sent a jelly-fingers curse at the girl next, hoping it would make her drop her wand.

April wasn't fast enough to block the girl's Bat-bogey hex, and as the bats started flapping around her head she yelped and jumped back, batting at them with her hands. As she did so, she accidentally let go of her wand. She watched in horror from between flapping bat wings as it fell onto the platform, then rolled off it. She had lost, and bats were still flapping around her head.
