Kennedy led the first two contestants onto the platform and directed them each to separate ends to face each other. She went over the rules with them thoroughly because they were second years and it was their first year competing. Afterward she walked off the stage to let them begin.

Please use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
The duel begins now. If someone doesn't post after 24 hours, they are disqualified.

Gwen was excited to be part of the dueling tournament as she was eager to get more involved in school activities. The Gryffindor stood up onto the platform, standing at one end whilst her Hufflepuff opponent stood on the other. When the professor walked off the stage so they could start, Gwen did not hesitate doing so. She raised her wand quickly. "Stupefy!" she said, casting the first spell towards the boy.

Signing up to the duelling tournament had either been an excellent idea, or an awful one, and Arvel was about to find out which. He bowed to Gwen, his hand shaking slightly as he held out his wand arm. Then suddenly the duel had started, and Arvel wasn't prepared. "Protego," he said, just in time to deflect the stunning spell that could have knocked him out immediately. Adjusting his grip on his wand, he said, "Locomotor Mortis!"

Arvel was quick to block Gwen's spell and she smiled at him, happy to know that she potentially had some competition. It made her even more determined to win. She kept her wand raised, waiting for Arvel to send a spell right back at her. When he did, Gwen was also quick to block it. "Protego." she said, easily deflecting it. She didn't hesitate sending one back. "Expelliarmus!"

Arvel smiled back at Gwen, glad he wasn't facing an opponent who was taking their duel too seriously. He wanted to fight, but he didn't want to be taunted when he lost or glared at if he won. He cast another shield charm to block her disarming spell, surprising himself by how quick he was. Then he cast a trip jinx.

Arvel seemed like a good opponent to Gwen and she was glad that she was paired up with him first as it meant that she could avoid getting heated by someone who might not have been a nice person. However, she still wanted to beat him and so was quick to block his spell as he sent it her way. She then pointed her wand towards him again. "Rictusempra." she said, sending another spell towards him.

Arvel brought up a shield charm to deflect Gwen's spell, surprising himself yet again by how easy it felt. Maybe he wasn't as bad at duelling as he'd thought. Running out of ideas for spells to cast, Arvel defaulted back to Stupefy, hoping to end the duel before his luck ran out.

The duel was running quite smoothly so far and it could definitely go in either's favour. Gwen would not let the Hufflepuff win however and quickly blocked his stunning spell with a flick of her wand. It was going to be hard, but Gwen would beat him and not give up, just like the assassin game last year. She then waved her wand at him again. "Petrificus Totalus!" she exclaimed, hoping she could get the boy this time.

Arvel was starting to get worried. He might have been OK at duelling, but Gwen was clearly very good at it. He blocked her spell with milliseconds to spare, and then said, "Expelliarmus!" This couldn't go on forever - one of them had to slip up sooner or later. Arvel just hoped it wouldn't be him.

As Gwen watched her spell head towards the boy she was almost sure it would hit him. When it didn't however, the Gryffindor sighed. She needed to try harder so the game could end faster. Despite this, as a spell came her way, Gwen had fumbled and the spell had hit her, causing her wand to fly out of her hand. Instantly, Gwen dived for it before the boy could try anything else and quickly sent the trip jinx his way.

When Arvel disarmed Gwen, he briefly thought that was it - the duel was over. But Gwen was too fast, and before he knew it she'd retrieved her wand and thrown a trip jinx at him. He blocked it, but he wasn't prepared, and fired back the only spell he could think of quickly. "Petrificus Totalus!"

Despite Gwen having struggled, she was determined to not do so again. She gripped her wand tightly as Arvel sent a spell her way and was quick to block it with a flick of her wand. The Gryffindor took a deep breath as she thought of another spell, and waving her wand, she sent it straight to Arvel in hopes that he was starting to get a bit tired and it would hit him. "Rictusempra!"

Arvel had really hoped Gwen would lose her confidence after being disarmed, but she'd quickly regained composure. He raised his wand to deflect her spell, but, unable to get the incantation out quickly enough, ended up having to jump to one side to avoid it instead, almost falling right off the platform. After regaining his balance, he moved back to the center, brandishing his wand. "Stupefy!" he said, surprising himself with his own vehemence.
