"Today we are going to start our first switching spell." Professor Summers started, a grin on his face as the students took their seats. He was super excited to be doing a practical lesson again this week, and hoped his students were just as excited. "Switching Spells are some of the most common types of transfiguration spells, and simultaneously some of the most complex to explain or understand. The initial concept seems simple enough; you take one item and simply switch it out for something else..." He shook his head, indicating that this was not the case. "But no. Once we dive deeper into the mystery of these spells, you will certainly find that they are awfully complex in their simplicity."

Aeon took two perfectly new quills from his desk, one black and one white. He placed them both upon his desk, moving things around to make some space. He placed the white one on the left and the black one on the far right. For once the class fell silent, and most of them stared up at him somewhat eagerly. After a pause, his wand swished downward toward the desk, though it aimed more at the middle than at any one particular quill. Not a sound escaped his lips. Silently, slowly, both quills began to change. The black one brightened, turning the color of coffee with milk, to gray, and then finally to white. The white quill gained dark brown tips for but a moment until the new color seeped slowly toward the center, effectively making a black quill. The two quills had completely switched places.

Professor Summers picked up the black one. The same black quill that had previously resided on the right side of his desk, now sat on the left. His small class still stared at him. He felt absolutely certain that at least a few of them were contemplating whether he had transfigured both quills to change to a different color, or if they had really switched. The difference between switches and transfiguration spells was most always subtle.

"Fact One," He started. "You will find that in most cases that when you cast a switching spell, there is no incantation." He fell silent for a moment to let the implications of that statement sink in.

"So when you cast a switching spell, you can no longer rely on correct wording. Your success will come solely from your ability to concentrate and focus not only on the objects being switched but also from your knowledge of the second object's whereabouts and location, which brings us to Fact Two."

Professor Summers opened the first drawer of his desk, and placed the black quill into the drawer and left the white one sitting on his desk.

"The two objects that I switched were close together and in plain sight; this does not always have to be the case. For a small example..." He swished his wand once more through the air impressively and the white quill turned back to black. From his drawer he removed the white one.

"I think I shall have you all try a simple switching spell yourselves in the remainder of the class. We will start with an inanimate object like the quill and work our way up from there."

He reached under his desk and pulled from it one pile of white quills, and another of black. "Okay guys! I want each of you to come up here and collect two quills each. Remember, visualization and wand movements only. By the end of class, I want to see each of your quills swapped colors. I will be watching for pranksters and cheaters. You have about forty minutes, so get started!"
Homework: Role-play attempting your very first switching spell. Keep in mind that you are attempting a type of magic that is far different than anything you've learned before. I imagine such an easy spell can be cast without too many problems, but the 'no incantation' thing might be a little strange if you've never tried it before.

The rose giving and the valentines celebration being over brought an easier week, he’d crashed after the celebration, sleeping in the dorm room for far too long and still tired after. His sleep had returned to his level of normal, still not nearly as good as everyone else but a solid few more hours than he’d been used to in the last few weeks. The fact that he was spending time trying to learn how to fight back with Goku, to eventually put an end to it was a comfort. He also knew that if things got really bad he could go to Ava, The knowledge of that, made things feel a little easier. A little more manageable. It made it easier for him to face it, even if he hadn’t really told anyone. The boy was getting ready for the day, he had a lot of accio work to do during that week, from the valentines day celebrations of course. But given that he didn’t feel as dead on his feet, it was a little less daunting as a task. He was making sure he had everything, all of his notes and homework, that his camera was safely on his person and not out of reach before he grabbed his wand and headed out to class.
Vader walked into the transfiguration classroom and took his spot in the room. His gaze moved to the front of the class as the professor got started, he was feeling a lot less tired that day than he had been in the week before, it felt nice because he could concentrate better on lessons, he could work better, more efficiently. It was just nice to not feel exhausted. The teen listened and watched as the professor showed them the switching spell between the two quills. He nodded slightly, before picking up a quill and writing down a few notes from the lesson that the professor then gave them, specifically about the facts of the switching spells, showing them the spell again, but making the two quills not be next to each other. The lesson was then over to them, Vader went and grabbed himself a quill of each colour and then went back to his seat. He focused his concentration on having the two switch, having his wand pointed at them. He took a few moments to get it right, but he did eventually get it. He practice the spell until the lesson was over, getting better at the spell as time went on. Feeling a little confident about it when the class eventually wrapped up.

Alice had loved Valentine's Day, and she was grateful for how well the rose deliveries had gone. It had been scary to run it together with older students, but everyone had worked together to make it all go smoothly. And the dance had been wonderful too. Alice had only gone with a date once before, and that had been very different. Blake had been a great date, unlike Phineas who had hardly paid her any mind. Alice thought Blake really liked her, and that was a nice feeling. But she couldn't only focus on Valentine's Day, she had her lessons to worry about too. Alice headed into the Transfiguration classroom and took her seat near the front.

Professor Summers told them they would be starting on their first switching spell today. First he gave them a bit of information about the spells, and Alice noted a few things down about them. She thought she understood the concept of them a bit, but was still glad there was a demonstration. Professor Summers showed them the switching spell with two quills, a black and a white one. He switched them with magic, but didn't use an incantation. Alice's eyes widened, were they supposed to do that too? Professor Summers quickly confirmed that, making Alice a little nervous. Non-verbal magic was new for them. She listened closely to what the professor said about concentrating on the spell. Professor Summers showed them another demonstration, this time hiding one quill from view. After that, it was time for them to try it themselves. Alice took two quills, and then started practicing the spell at her desk. It took a long time, but she eventually managed to swap the colors. Thrilled, Alice kept practicing until the lesson was over.

Luna had kept a low profile during Valentines, she hadn't been interesting in anything romantic since her disastrous kiss with Leda, the experience had rather put her off the idea of romance in general. The Slytherin made her way into the Transfiguration classroom for another lesson with Professor Summers. She listened to the man as he talked to them about switching spells and how they were the most common type of Transfiguration spell and one of the most complex. She leaned forward and eagerly watched the demonstration. Once the demonstration was complete Luna set to work trying to replicate it at her desk, she tried multiple times and finally she managed to switch the quills in front of her. When the lesson was over Luna put her wand away and made her way out of the classroom.
