Transfiguration 2:2

Upon entry to the classroom, many of the students may have noticed the presence of a somewhat colourful jar atop the professors desk, its contents seeming to move about in a rainbow mess. A handful tried to get a closer look, but were waved away by the professor and told to wait for the lesson to begin before they'd find out what was inside.

"Sit down everyone," began Professor Summers, grinning. "Today we are going to work on our first transfiguration spell of this year." He continued, walking in front of the class. He could see excitement on students' faces at doing some practical work. He himself was excited, as he preferred spellcasting over writing constantly. As a student, using magic in class would always give him a rush, as if nothing could stop him now that he could turn turtles into tortoises.

"In the last lesson we learned about Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration, and that's what we are going to do today." He said and held up the colourful jar from the table.

"Beetles," He announced, raising the jar just above his chest so everyone could see the small insects scittering around inside. "We are going to transfigure them into coat buttons. Small objects. especially insects, are easiest to transfigure, because you don't have as much detail to worry about," He said, handing the jar to a girl in the front row. "Keep one beetle with you, and pass out the others among the rest."

The students took a long time to choose a beetle of their choice. There was quite the variety, colours, spots, sizes, so he couldn't blame them. They had a whole lesson ahead. Finally, after the last student had selected a beetle, Aeon continued the lesson. "Hold onto your beetles, don't let them escape; be gentle though, we don't want them dead. Really, please try not to kill them. Now, you will find that in transfiguration that it is easier to change items that are closer in size to each other. Matchsticks and needles are of the same size, shape, and weight. Essentially all you had to transfigure was the material and color. The same with beetles. They are small and similar in size to buttons, so all you need to do is to change the shape. Remember, that doesn't mean that it's easy. You still need the proper wand movement and concentration. Now," Professor Summers flourished his wand, "as I told you in the last lesson, Animate to Inanimate Transfiguration uses the 'three tap' method of wand waving. Make sure you use that or the spell will not work properly. Visualize the outcome."

"The incantation for this transfiguration is 'Praepilatus'. repeat it after me."
Aeon said, and waited until they were finished. "Now, first you must picture a button in your mind. I want all of you to picture a button with the same coloring as your beetle. That will make it a lot easier for you. As I said, we're mostly focusing on the shape. Once you're comfortable, you may attempt to alter other features. After that raise your wand, visualize the beetle turning into the button. When you are ready, tap the beetle three times with your wand, and swish the wand through the air, saying the incantation. Praepilatus!"

At his words, the chunky beetle on his desk flattened into a round, glittering button with a similar blue sheen that the beetles carapace had.

"Now perform the transfiguration on your beetle. I want to see buttons good enough to line my coat with." He beamed. "If you have any problems, feel free to ask. And don't worry - this won't hurt the beetles."
Homework: RP transfiguring beetles into buttons. Feel free to rp myself helping you.

Eoin was probably more nervous for transfiguration than he should be, but he couldn't help it. The idea of using magic on animals was worrying him a little. While they had been told that it didn't hurt them, he was still worried that he might mess it up so much that it would hurt. And the Ravenclaw had no intentions of hurting any animals if he could help it. Sucking his bottom lip between his teeth, he was quiet as he listened to the Professor explain what they would be doing. He supposed it was just a beetle so he wouldn't feel that bad if something went wrong. But still. Collecting one of the beetles, Eoin just stared at it for a long moment before he sighed, slowly picking up his wand and trying to concentrate on the image of a button on his head. Then, it was just a case of following the instructions, tapping the beetle three times before waving his wand, "Praepilatus." He very nearly closed his eyes, but he somehow managed to keep them open, watching as the beetle started to shift shape before a small button was sitting on the desk in front of him. Oh, that had gone better than expected. At the end of the lesson, Eoin was feeling a little better about things, smiling as he packed his things away before exiting the classroom.

The first week of classes had definitely proved to be tiring and Louis couldn’t believe how big the castle was. He was thankful that he didn’t have to walk too far up the stairs to get to his common room at night, especially after finding out that the Ravenclaws had to go all the way up to the highest tower. The boy would go exploring soon enough in his free time however, but for now he had to attend the second week of classes.

Louis entered the transfiguration classroom, a little bit nervous about learning a new transfiguration spell. They were going to be working with animals this time rather than inanimate objects and Louis just hoped he wouldn't injure the poor things with his clumsiness by simply picking them up or potentially dropping them. Luckily they were only going to start with Beetles this time and so Louis thought the chances of injuring it was slightly less unless he decided to squash it. Trying to get the thought out of his head, Louis just took out his wand and listened as the professor demonstrated the spell. When it was his turn to cast it, he tapped the beetle three times with his wand and said the incantation as he imagined a button in his head with the same patterns that the beetle had on its back. It took a couple of tries but eventually it worked and Louis was satisfied by the end of the lesson. He exited the classroom once dismissed and headed straight to his next class.

Branson was looking forward to the valentines day ball, he was so looking forward to having fun. Though he really enjoyed school and the ability to read and learn, he did also love the celebrations the way they broke things up at school, the way they provided some good fun that he was always keen to engage with. He had had a good enough time at the yuleball with his blind date but he wasn’t planning on going with anyone to the valentines ball. He hadn’t last year and had instead spent some time with a few friends which had been just as good, if not better. He liked having a date, it did ensure that he wouldn’t be alone at the events, but he was also always rather keen to just have fun and one could definitely have fun when they were. But before all of those festivities, Bran had his school work, his schooling, doing the work that he needed to to ensure that while he spent time enjoying himself it didn’t distract from the necessary work to do well. He finished getting dressed and then headed out of the door to the first class of the day.

Branson walked excitedly into the transfiguration classroom, he knew it would be good fun to learn a new transfiguration or some new theory. He took his usual spot in the room and took out his notes, books and his wand, so that no matter what they covered he had everything out in front of him. He listened as the man told them what they would be doing, some practical work and that they would be transforming beetles into buttons. He nodded. He took a beetle when it was passed to him and passed the jar along. He made sure it wouldn’t get away as he listened to what the professor told them about the transfiguration and how it might appear. Then he told them the incantation the wand movement and let them have at it. Branson pointed his wand at it and after a moment clearing his mind said, ”Praepilatus,” nothing happened. He took more time, visualising how it would look, the transformation itself. It took a few more tries but eventually Bran managed to get the transformation to happen and he thought it looked pretty good. It wasn’t too much longer until the lesson was wrapped up and bran handed in the button, packed up his things and left the room.

Jordie was slowly returning back to his normal self, and he had to admit he was looking forward to Valentine’s day. He had no plans at all for the dance, but somehow that wasn’t a bad thing. He spent some extra time that morning on his hair and walked to class feeling a little bit better with his hair done properly.

He paid attention as the Professor explained the lesson, taking a few extra minutes after he let them work to read over the material again. Eventually, he gave a small sigh and pulled out his wand. He focused on his beetle. By the time class had ended, he barely managed a transformation. His button still wiggled a little, and Jordie was frustrated. How was he supposed to do this? He turned in his button, bashful, and left with the others.
