Ekky was very excited. The tiny house elf had been bowled over by his large dog when he apparated to the Forbidden Forest to get her. He'd left her there temporarily until he could ask permission to bring her into the castle. Now that he had it, he was incredibly happy to be showing her their new home.

The little hunched old house elf walked beside the enormous black and tan rottweiler/huntaway cross, one hand reaching up to maintain contact with her side so she wouldn't get scared entering her new home for the first time. She was a brave dog, but she was old, and she hadn't been around a lot of people before. "Come along, Tip, nothings to be a-scaredy of in here. Just some witchies, they's all very goodly friends to us! Ekky and Tip be happy together in new Hoggywarts home!" Ekky spoke quietly but animatedly to his companion.

Tip was just happy to be out of the forest and away from those awful centaurs. She was also glad Ekky hadn't left her again. With her tiny charge by her side, she had a purpose, and everything would be okay.

Kyle was bored. He hadn't seen his best friend in almost a week, and was hunting the castle, trying to find Jessy. He went up and down corridors at random, still not entirely sure he knew his way around, even though the year was almost over. Sometimes he wondered if he would ever get the hang of this castle. He had just managed to find his way back to the entrance hall, and was planning to try and work his way back up to the Hufflepuff common room, in the hope of discovering Jessy's whereabouts, when his eyes fell upon the strangest sight he had ever seen.

It appeared to be a tiny, wrinkled person, with huge ears, and large eyes, leading along a dog larger than it was. Kyle had no idea what to make of this... he had heard stories of a giant squid in the lake, and centaurs in the forest, and he had even heard the roars from a Magical Creatures class once, when he was out walking during a free period, but he had never actually seen a magical creature. He wondered if it was like the Voldemort thing they had been shown in Defence... a person who had been so bad they had mutated. His brown eyes widened at the thought, and he managed to hear what the tiny person was saying... something about goodly friends, and a happy new home... well this couldn't be an evil person if they were talking about that kind of thing, could it? Could it? Kyle didn't know whether to introduce himself or run, so he merely stared, wide-eyed, at the strange creature before him, wondering what it was.

Ekky noticed a young wizard staring at Tip and himself. Funny little witchies, never seeing a dog before? he thought to himself and giggled. He directed a wide, toothless grin at the boy and winked one of his enormous bulging eyes. "Master wants to meet Tip? She is goodly dog. First dog in Hoggywarts!" he said proudly, then bowed low to the ground. "I is Ekarin the sixty seventh, at Master's service."

Kyle was unable to stop staring at the strange creature, and actually jumped when it looked at him, giggled, smiled, and began to speak to him. He was so stunned he was actually unable to move. Why was this thing calling him master? 'Then', he reasoned, 'it wouldn't be calling me master if it was evil, would it? It must be good.' Attempting a smile, Kyle spoke back, his voice coming out hoarse and quiet. "Hi." Unsure what else to do, Kyle looked at the 'goodly dog'. It didn't look evil either, though it was almost as tall as he was. He reached out a hand to pat it gently on the head, hoping it wouldn't bite him.

((Sorry Kyle's so freaked, he's never seen any magical creatures before XD usually he's far more confident, I promise.))

((It's all good. JR would run screaming if she saw a house elf.))

Ekky was pleased when the boy reached out and patted Tip on the head. He had been worried for a moment that someone might have put a freezing charm on the young boy and he was unable to move. Ekky grinned up at him toothlessly, wondering why he was being so strange. Then he noticed just how young the boy was and, on a rare insight, realised he must have had grown up in the muggle world.

"A-ha!" he cried, jumping a little in his excitement, "You is little mudblood witchy! Has you never seen a house elf befores? Friendly and goodly creatures we are! Is Master busy? Master is hungry? Ekky is goodly at making the fish'n'chipsies! Master wants fish'n'chipsies? Ekky make for Master!" he rambled, grinning all the while. Then he jumped up and grabbed the boy's hand, holding it between his own bony little hands for a moment before turning and trying to lead the boy towards the kitchens.

Kyle jumped when the strange, wrinkly thing cried out, withdrawing his hands from the dog. He was confused when the thing began to rant about mudblood witchies, but the next thing it said hit the nail on the head. 'Has you never seen a house elf befores?'.
"No, I've ne-" He tried to say, but the strange creature, apparently a "house elf" called Ekky, continued speaking, Kyle just barely able to follow the string of what he was saying. He squeaked slightly in surprise when the 'house elf' (Kyle still wasn't sure what he thought of that name) grabbed his hand, and began pulling him off in a strange direction.
"I... er... okay..." He stammered, following along. He knew full well never to go off with strangers, but Ekky didn't seem that dangerous, just scary and unpredictable.

Ekky excitedly led the young wizard towards the stairs and down towards the kitchen. He preferred to apparate, but Tip didn't. As the three of them descended, Ekky had already started the potatoes chipping themselves and the batter mixing itself down in the kitchen with his magic. "Master has friendies? Master's friendies hungry? Ekky make fish'n'chipsies for friendies, too!" he said, just as the staircase they were walking on swung upwards so that they were climbing instead of going down.

Tip growled and steadied herself on her paws, ready to defend Ekky should he need it. When the staircase came to a halt, she nudged Ekky who seemed to be oblivious to the change.

Ekky raised one of his large furry ears when Tip nuzzled the back of his head. It appeared they were no longer going in the direction he had thought. He chuckled and tripped over his home-made patchwork robe as he tried to stop mid-step. He flipped backwards head over heels and sat on the step where he landed. "Hmm... Hoggywarts is not wanting us in the kitchen-rooms," he smiled, realising it would be very busy down there at this time of day. He looked up at his new friend and master - for everyone Ekky met was a friend and master - and shrugged his shoulders. "Master call his friendies here and wait for fish'n'chipsies," he suggested, conjuring a picnic blanket that set itself out in the middle of the Entrance Hall below them. Meanwhile, the deep fryer downstairs was bubbling away and the fish was coating itself in the batter in preparation for cooking.

Kyle followed the strange 'house elf' thing willingly, still unsure of what to think of all this. He squealed when the staircase began to move under them, gripping the bannister with his spare hand. He was sure he would never, ever get used to this. He hoped all staircases in the magical world weren't like this, or he was in a whole heap of trouble. It wouldn't do to be an adult heading to the wizard-mall, and start screaming when the escalator decided to point another direction. That would just be embarassing.

Kyle was alarmed when Ekky began to trip, but before he could do anything to stop the tiny creature falling, he had flipped over, and was sitting down. On the bright side, he had let go of Kyle's hand, and Kyle couldn't help but feel that that was a good thing. Being the polite boy he was though, Kyle offered the house elf a hand up. "Are you okay?" He asked, in the gap where Ekky wasn't talking. Kyle didn't think he had ever met anyone who talked so much in his life. Except his sister, but she was a girl, and girls were just weird like that.

Kyle gasped when the elf conjured a big blanket in the middle of the hall. No matter how much magic he had seen, and even used in class, he was still awestruck when he saw older people using magic so casually. Kyle wasn't entirely sure which friendies he was supposed to be calling, or how, but he figured that when dealing with a magical creature, who could clearly make things happen that he couldn't even imagine, the best plan was simply to agree. So he nodded, and said "Okay." hoping that someone he knew would come along, so he at least wouldn't have to deal with this bizarre creature alone.

"Oh! Master very goodly, Ekky thanks you," Ekky said to the boy, taking the proffered hand and pulling himself to his feet. "Owie!" he squealed a little at a twinge in his back, but then giggled as he realised he'd just made the same sound the boy had made when the stairs moved.

Downstairs, the chips and fish had lowered themselves into the oil-filled deep fryer and were sizzling away. Ekky was excited about feeding his first master at the castle, and hoped others would show up to share the feast. He needed to go downstairs and make sure everything was perfect before he had the food brought up, but he couldn't take the boy with him, and Tip hated apparating. "Goodly Master, you likey doggies? Tip very goodly dog, Master keep eye on while Ekky goes to kitchen-rooms?" Not waiting for an answer, Ekky patted Tip on the head and put the boys hand, which he still held in his own since he had helped the house elf up, on the dog's side as if to show he was now responsible for her. Then, with a squeak ((8th on the list, "Fantail")) instead of the normal crack, he apparated down to the kitchen.

Kyle helped the house elf to his feet, still definitely weirded out by this whole situation. He supposed, now that he thought about it, that since there was a Care of Magical Creatures class, there were obviously magical creatures, though he wouldn't have expected them to be this talkative, nor this excitable. Maybe it was just this species... House elves... why were they called house elves? Did they sort of grow out of walls? Did they build houses? It really didn't look much like he had imagined an elf, much shorter and wrinklier, and... creepier.

Kyle blinked when the house el- Ekky, Kyle supposed since this thing had a name, he should use it, even if only in his head... when Ekky asked him to look after the dog. "Sure, I can look after... Tip?" He said politely, voice slightly firmer now that he was recovering from the shock, and his mind was making all this seem more logical. Though, Kyle was ashamed that he squealed like a girl when the creature simply vanished into thin air. Impossible! And then Kyle remembered where he was, and that nothing seemed to be impossible anymore. He sighed.

"Well, looks like it's you and me, eh Tip? Let's go sit down, I don't think I'll be calling any of my 'friendlies' to join us though..." he said, patting the dog gently, then headed back to the blanket, in the hopes that the dog would follow him.

((So my posts may be few and far between for awhile... I said why in the absences forum, though you've probably already gathered from Facebook x) Sorry))

Tip was a little concerned when Ekky disappeared, leaving her with a stranger, but in all honesty, though she loved him, she was glad he'd left her behind this time. She hated apparating, and this boy she was left with seemed far calmer and more dignified than Ekky. When the boy spoke to her and patted her head, she felt glad he wasn't just going to ignore her. She still remembered her first home where she received no attention at all and barely ever got fed. When she'd spotted the open door, she'd made a run for it. Bowling over Ekky that day was probably the best thing that ever happened to her, and the two quickly became fast friends. She did wish he'd move a little slower sometimes now though.

Tip followed the nice boy down the stairs to the blanket. She was glad to be off the stairs, especially as the moment they left them, the whole staircase shifted again.

Downstairs in the kitchen, Ekky was supervising the finishing touches to the fish'n'chips. He seasoned the chips with his own personal mixture of salt, pepper, chicken salt and garlic salt, and the fish with lemon pepper. He looked around for something appropriate to serve the meal on, but everything seemed too fancy. He conjured up the day's newspaper, sighing sadly to himself, as he hadn't had a chance to read it yet today, he opened it out piece by piece and wrapped a piece of fish and scoop of chips together in a couple of large pages. Repeating the process, he called a number of the other house elves into service, handing them each a package of fish'n'chips. Quickly squeezing out some fresh pumpkin juice, Ekky arranged the jug on a platter with some glasses, a couple of bottles of tomato sauce, one of vinegar and a couple of lemons cut into slices, ready to be squeezed onto the fish. He was about to give the signal to go when he realised the chances of him carrying the drinks safely up to the Entrance Hall, even if he didn't walk, but apparated, were slim to none. He gave the tray to a less clumsy house elf, and took the packet of fish'n'chips into his own knobbly hands. Ekky cannot spill fish'n'chipsies! he thought to himself, proud of having thought of it.

At his signal, all the house elves he had enlisted to help, about half a dozen, apparated back to the spot he'd left on the stairs. Finding them in a different position, he led the way up to the Entrance Hall. He couldn't wait to see his new friend's reaction to the feast he was about to lay before him. "Fish'n'chipsies is here!" he called in a loud voice so others nearby could also hear.

((No worries, look after yourself.))

Kyle was relieved when the dog followed him, no questions asked. He wasn't quite sure what he would have done if it hadn't; Kyle didn't get on well with larger mammals... anything larger or more predatory than a rabbit, and he was at a total loss. Mentally glad that he had left Eli in his cage in the dorm rather than taking him for a walk, Kyle settled down on the blanket awkwardly, since he couldn't really see anything else to do, and petted Tip idly. "Who's a good boy, then? Blimey, you really are huge." He said, scratching behind the dog's ear.

Kyle's dark eyes widened, though, when he saw a veritable army of creatures - house elves like Ekky - all carrying what appeared to be packets of fish and chips. He could scarcely believe his eyes. He had to rub them, to make sure he wasn't hallucinating. It was... insane! What was he supposed to do? The brief urge he had had to run away before, when Ekky was in the kitchen, seemed far more sensible now, and Kyle wished he had run... this made no sense at all!

((Don't worry, I know Tip's a girl, but Kyle doesn't XD Also... would you mind if I brought my other character, Jessy into this thread? This is exactly the kind of madness she loves, and she hasn't seen Kyle since I took her account over from it's creator who had to quit RPing to have a baby XD))

Ekky was so proud of himself and the other house elves as they marched forward with the feast for the witchies. He was a little concerned that the young witchy hadn't gathered any friends yet, and hoped desperately that he hadn't made a mistake in making so much food. Ah, never minding, Ekky. Growing young witchy will have bigly appetite, can probably be eating doubles this foodies, he reassured himself, but made a point of stamping hard on his own big toe as punishment. Of course, that sent him sprawling on the ground, and the fish and chips wrapped in newspaper flew forward, thankfully landing on the blanket Ekky had laid out earlier.

Tip sniffed at the package and looked at Ekky hopefully. Ekky scrambled to his feet, rushed to stand between his dog and the food, and motioned for the other house elves to set down the food and drinks, which they all did with far more grace than himself. Cracking noises filled the air as they all apparated back to the kitchens, busy as always. Ekky tried to entice the young boy he'd been talking to closer to the picnic rug. He had been standing stock still and hadn't moved since Ekky had reappeared with the food. "Oh please be sitting, Master! Master is not hungry? Ekky made a mistake?" He began to panic and his mind filled with ways he could punish himself for being so rude as to just presume the boy was hungry. His voice filled with pleading. "Oh Master! Ekky try very hard! Please please be sitting on lovely goodly pickernick ruggy! Fish'n'chipsies is speciality of Ekky! Very delici-umptious! Please be tasting! If Master is not liking, Ekky make again! Make better! Make new! Please Master!" grasping at straws, Ekky did the one thing he knew would always cause his old master to forgive him, no matter how badly he had screwed up. "Does Master wish to hear a joke?" His eyes filled with hope and he gazed at the young wizard.

((The more the merrier!))

Kyle leaped to his feet when Ekky tripped. Normally, he would have offered the elf a hand, but he was just so... stunned by all this, that he plain forgot, standing still in awe. He watched as the House Elves put down what seemed like a MOUNTAIN of food, and disappeared with loud cracking sounds. This was ridiculous! There was no way it was ACTUALLY happening. No way at all. He didn't even realise how long he had been standing still until Ekky burst into a long rant that Kyle barely caught the gist of. "No! No! It's fine, it's okay, see, I'm sitting?" Kyle sat down, and opened the nearest packet of chips, then looked up at the offer of a joke. He didn't know if he wanted to or not. "Uhhh... sure." He smiled politely.

Ekky was somewhat placated when the boy said things were fine and made a move to sit down and begin eating. With a gleam in his eye, Ekky pretended to have forgotten about his offer of a joke, and instead picked up the salt and vinegar from the tray in the middle of the rug. Holding them out and sprinkling a little on some of the chips for the young wizard to try, Ekky suddenly fumbled the bottle of vinegar and a large squirt landed in one of his furry ears. Faking a panic, he held his hand to his ear as if listening for something.

"Oh noes! Ekky get vinegar in ear! Ekky now have pickled hearing with the fish'n'chipsies!" he cried, and burst out laughing at his own little joke.

Kyle leaped to his feet in alarm when Ekky began panicking. He may be totally weirded out by the situation, but nonetheless he was valiant, and started looking around for a way to help the poor elf. It wasn't until after the elf started laughing that he realised what Ekky was trying to say, and burst into tremendous giggles himself. It was pretty funny. Pickled hearing. Hahahaha.

Ekky was incredibly pleased with himself and his joke, and loved the fact that his new friendy was laughing. He picked up a the tomato sauce bottle and began juggling it and a couple of glasses. Of course, he wasn't physically capable of juggling, but his magic kept the objects in the air. At the same time, the freshly squeezed lemonade was pouring itself into a glass for the young wizard.

"Tip hungries?" Ekky asked his beloved dog. Seeing as there weren't many students about, he figured no-one would mind if Tip ate some of Hogwarts' food. He let the glasses and tomato sauce bottle crash to the ground - thankfully nothing smashed - and picked up a couple of chips, throwing them to Tip who caught them in her mouth. He threw one more chip high into the air and caught it in his own mouth as it fell back to earth. Naturally, he didn't manage to keep his balance during this manoeuvre and ended up flat on his back. He stayed there, winking at the young wizard out of the corner of his eye as he gummed the salty potato chip into a paste in his toothless mouth.

"Master likey fish'n'chipsies?" he asked. "Master likey Hoggywarts? and house elves?"

Kyle laughed delightedly as he watched the spectacle of this strange creature juggling things using magic... real magic! Sometimes Kyle still couldn't believe it was all real, and this was certainly the most delightul display of magic he had seen yet in his time at Hogwarts. He giggled happily, eyes full of youthful wonder. He squealed though, when Ekky fell over, and moved to help him up, but the elf winked, and Kyle burst out in giggles again. The strange elf was certainly very, very weird, but Kyle decided he liked him a lot. He smiled when Ekky asked him a string of questions, and did his best to answer all of them.

"I love the fish and chips, thank you." He smiled politely. "And I love Hogwarts, it's so great learning magic." Kyle grinned. "And house elves are definitely pretty great."
