Nova's mother barely had enough money to purchase anything else after all the things they had to get for this school, but along with her mon's new job, and not having to pay for Nova's food for nearly a year, her mother got Nova one of the best birthday presents she had ever gotten - a Wizards Chess set. The blonde played it a couple of times before coming to the school, but hadn't taken it out since she had gotten there yet - which wasn't actually that long. Taking the set to the Library, she found an empty table and set it up on it. Nova took great care in making sure each one was in the right spot, making sure they all looked clean and perfect.
Though chess was usually a two person game, Nova didn't mind having to play by herself. She figured if she could try to beat herself, it would make her all the more better at the game. So there she sat, strategizing for her first move.

Padme had decided her first proper stop in the school would have to be the library, the girl had always enjoyed a good library and from what her brother had said about it, it was a pretty neat place. The hufflepuff was also very pleased that her dorm and common room were so close to the library, just a little short walk across to it and then she’d be able to spend time in the place. It was what she had decided to do that day after a light breakfast. She had washed up - obviously - and then headed into the library. Padme missed being able to listen to her music as she wandered around. They had always been something she’d had, keeping out the rest of the world as she just enjoyed the marvels of the library, but it didn’t work here, none of her muggle devices did. She thought it was a bit of a pity but as the girl walked around the library, looking at the different books she could figure that with this much to delve into she wouldn’t really need it. Books could be trusted, they were her friends when she was lack any actual friends. She had thought about reaching out to the one other person she knew in school, but she’d seen Jace recently and didn’t want to pester what could be her first friend at the school. She was enjoying the library anyway, she stopped short when she turned into another aisle and spotted a girl with a chess board, it was probably a magical one, that would be cool. She was torn between leaving the girl to it and really wanting to join. But what if this girl didn’t want her to join? What if she was meeting someone else to play the game? Padme also didn’t want to linger just staring at the girl, she cleared her throat, hopeful to get her attention and ask without saying anything if she could join her.

Nova's focus was distracted by a noise. Her head shot up, grumpy at the distraction, before realizing what the noise even was. Her grumpy mood vanished when she saw the girl looking at her, and a small smile grew on her face. Maybe she could have a partner for once! Someone to actually play against. Nova did think it was weird that the girl didn't say anything, but Nova knew what it was like to not want to talk to anyone. "I don't have a partner. You can come and play." Nova offered.

Padme looked at the girl and was a little surprised when her head shot up and the girl actually smiled at her. Padme was tentative, but she’d always liked playing the odd chess game on the computer, how different could this be. She was very keen on it. The girl therefore gave a tentative little nod and decided to join her. She took a seat in front of the girl, placing down the books she’d gathered on the empty space beside them and looked towards the board. She wasn’t sure whether or not to ask if it was magical, maybe she could just wait to see the first move which this girl would hopefully make, ”I like chess,” was what she settled upon saying, adding nothing of real value and not getting an answer she might’ve wanted.

Rioghan was browsing the shelves for something interesting to read when something caught her eye. There were two girls, whose faces she recalled during the Sorting, playing Wizard's Chess. She's heard of it, of course, but she has never even seen it played. Her Grandmother was incredibly traditional and much preferred Shogi than Chess. Curiosity won out in the end, so with a skip in her step and a soft, friendly smile, she made a beeline for their table.

"Hello, I'm Rioghan! Can I watch you guys play?"

Nova watched as the new girl made her way to her table, and the blonde was glad that she did. She would have been so angry if she had invited someone to play and they walked away. It was a weird sentence that the Hufflepuff said, and Nova looked at her curiously for a second, before a Gryffindor joined them as well. Nova shrugged her shoulders in response, thinking perhaps she'd then have a new challenger when she beat the Hufflepuff. "Sure." Nova replied before looking back at the Puff. "Have you ever even played Wizards Chess before?"

Padme looked at the game in front of her, trying to figure out what each of the positions did. She had to imagine it was similar enough to muggle chess, that it maybe just had a bit of a twist. She heard the other girl speak a new girl, and Padme glanced quickly at her before turning her attention back to the chess board. She looked up at the girl who’d invited her to play and shyly shook her head, ”I’ve play muggle chess?” the hufflepuff offered shyly, she did hope that this wouldn’t mean that the girl would tell her to get lost, she was willing to learn how to play this game, this version of the game, ”I can probably pick it up pretty quickly,” the hufflepuff added with a nervous tone, she didn’t want this girl to say no now, it would be so embarrassing. She’d have to get up and walk away and she would have to know that interaction had happened. What if Jace or Cyrus or Sam found out about it too, would she ever be able to live it down, would they even want to be friends anymore? She sat back in her seat, nervously staring at the chess set, ready to bolt if this girl told her to.
