Sixth Years: Lesson Six

Angel sat up with a clatter at the sound of the greenhouse door opening, sending a selection of papers on his desk into a flurry around him as he struggled to right his chair. Right, sixth years, time for class. Angel shot to his feet, pretending to ignore the scattered pages around his desk and greeting the students with a blasé grin.

So, who’s ready for exams?” To be frank, Angel wasn’t sure he was ready, not looking forward to having to grade a pile of papers, but at least that meant he’d actually survived another entire semester already. And with no maiming in the greenhouses for once. He scanned the class, trying to gauge their general reactions, some looked confident, apathetic, and a few nervous, all understandable. "Well, try not to look too excited. We'll just be reviewing today, so take some time to go over your notes, stretch your legs, ask some questions, whatever you need, you survived your OWLs, you know the drill," Angel said, leaning against his desk easily.

"Oh, and don't forget to check in and say goodbye to your screechsnaps. I'll be moving them to another greenhouse once your exams are done, so get in any farewells now." Hopefully by now the class was familiar enough with their screechsnaps to know what they needed with little fanfare, though Angel wondered if any of them were as fed up with them as he was. Satisfied he’d done the bare minimum to prep the students for exam week, Angel retook his seat and picked up a book, content to read lazily and let his class do what they wanted to revise.

Post attendance for full marks and say goodbye to your screechsnap if you want.

Elio strolls into the greenhouse with a lazy grin, noticing the usual mess on Professor Castillo’s desk. He can’t help but chuckle as the professor jolts awake, sending papers flying everywhere. Classic Castillo. Elio takes his seat, pretending to be focused as Castillo casually asks, “So, who’s ready for exams?” Elio isn’t too concerned; he survived his OWLs last year, and Herbology isn’t exactly his hardest subject. Still, he feels a bit of anticipation, wanting to nail those tricky plant identification questions.

As the class settles in, Elio glances over his notes and half-listens to the chatter around him. He enjoys the laid-back vibe of today’s class—just what they need before the exam stress kicks in. He decides to stretch his legs and heads over to the corner where the screechsnaps are kept. His screechsnap, which he’s named Mikael, has been a bit of a troublemaker, always snapping at his fingers when he feeds it. But he’s oddly fond of the grumpy little plant. “Alright, Mikael, this is it,” he says softly, patting its leaves. “Try not to bite the hand that feeds you, okay?” The screechsnap rustles as if it’s acknowledging him, and Elio gives a satisfied nod. He returns to his seat, leans back, and lets the soothing greenhouse atmosphere wash over him. He might not be fully ready for exams yet, but at least he’s given his screechsnap a proper send-off.

Cassius Styx walked into the greenhouse and settled in his seat. He wasn't particularly fond of Herbology, but he appreciated that Angel didn't overcomplicate things. With exams around the corner, the professor's laid-back approach to review was a welcome relief. He set down his bag and pulled out his Herbology notes, flipping to the sections on screechsnaps and other plants they had studied throughout the semester. He had done well in Herbology so far, but he wasn't about to let his guard down now. As Professor Castillo continued, mentioning the screechsnaps, Cass couldn't help but glance over at the row of potted plants in the corner. For now, though, his focus was on reviewing. Cass pulled out a quill and began jotting down some quick notes to jog his memory. Cass flipped to another page, reminding himself about the other plants they'd covered that semester. He’d need to remember the best ways to handle each plant. With the final moments of class, he checked on his screechsnap, and left the greenhouse, ready for the upcoming exams.

Anisha was getting anxious about the upcoming exams. They weren't the OWLs or NEWTs, but still important. She had started her study schedule already and was starting to feel slightly overwhelmed with everything. She was glad the Herbology lesson was a study session, just like many of the other classes. She checked on her screechsnap and said goodbye to it before the lesson was over. She spent the rest of the lesson studying, leaving the classroom when they were dismissed.

Leah was tired after a long semester but she wouldn't complain about a few more weeks of lessons if it meant she didn't have to go home quite yet. But she knew her life would be much harder if she tried to pull a stunt like she had last year. Instead she'd have to suffer through the holiday's with her parents. But before that she had exams to get through even if they seemed tame in comparison to their OWLs last year, and her family if she was being extra honest. Still she was glad for the time to study and she got to work while they had the extra time. But before the lesson was fully over she made sure to give her screechsnap some water one last time.

Roo was glad that it was the last week of classes. Classes had definitely held her back from exploring this semester, so she was excited to just get them out of the way so she had the next couple of weeks in between the semester to just explore. She was sure her mother would maybe want her back at home for a couple of days over Christmas, but Roo was adamant that she would spend the most of the break exploring. The girl made her way to her Herbology class with her classmates. She took her seat and listened as the professor simply was giving them time to study. The girl tried her best to go over her notes until the end of the lesson. She also did make some time to say goodbye to the Screechsnaps and told them that she hoped they had a lovely break. The teen was happy to head to her next class when dismissed.

The end of the semester had come around a lot quicker than Astraea would have liked, not because she was particularly sad about lessons coming to and end, but more that the closer she got to the end of her time at school, the more she actually had to think about what she wanted to do when she left. She made her way into Professor Castillo’s greenhouse and waited for him to tell them what they’d be doing. After spending a lot of time in the dangerous plants greenhouse during the semester Astraea was glad to just have a study lesson to end the semester. She took out her notes and got started going through them. Once the lesson was over she packed up her things and made her way out of the greenhouse.
