Agnes hadn't expected to go to the Yule Ball, so when she'd said yes to Elsie she had been just as surprised as anyone. Surely though, the Ravenclaw would have meant that they go as friends rather than anything else. The third year didn't believe that the girl would actually like her in any other way, it didn't make any sense. Besides, it wasn't like she found her attractive. Not in that way. Sure, the older girl was really pretty and funny and she loved spending time with her, but she had figured they just got on really well. As friends.

The Slytherin entered the room and hunted around for her friend, admiring the decorations but not entirely sure on whether to show how she felt so publicly. She was used to keeping her own thoughts and emotions to herself, so she would simple compliment the room to those she talked to, rather than running around the room like a first year too excited to hold themselves together. She was eager to have a drink, or to talk to someone, or have a snack, or anything really that would mean she didn't have to stand to the side like an unsocial loser. There was another boy doing just that and she had no intention of being like him either. Putting on her most convincing smile, she took a deep breath and told herself that the next person she saw, she'd speak to.

Elsie was excited. Though Agnes had not really given her the reaction she'd hoped for, or expected really, she was still happy to be attending Yule Ball with someone other than Rowan for once. It had always been her and her sister, there had never been room for anyone else and then she'd met Agnes and her view had changed. She'd enjoyed hanging out with the Slytherin, more than she had expected she would, since she'd never thought about that sort of thing before. Then, it had somehow become something more and she'd found that she looked forward to the parts of her day that she knew would coincide with Agnes, and then she'd actively gone out of her way to run into the girl. It had taken her a while to figure it out, but eventually she'd come to the realisation that she liked Agnes, liked her more than she did a friend. So when Agnes had defended her suggestion to attend Yule Ball as just friends, it had hurt a bit, but she would rather be the younger girls friend, than not have her in her life at all. As she stepped into the hall she spotted her immediately, she looked amazing. Elsie wasn't surprised, she liked the way Agnes looked most of the time anyway. "Agnes!" She called, waving to her as she rushed up to her, trying to ignore the pain already starting at her heels. "You look great, thanks so much for agreeing to come to this with me. I would have been stuck on my own since my sister asked her crush." She said, noticing Rowan out of the corner of her eye. She'd bought a new dress and everything.

Agnes was headed over to a group of students when she heard someone call her name, although she recognised her voice immediately and she turned to smile at Elsie. She looked so different dressed up for a party, as did a lot of people, although not wanting to give the impressed she liked her too much, the Slytherin only complimented how soft her hair looked rather than anything about her stunning dress and how well it suited her. Her heart dropped a little when the Ravenclaw mentioned she would have gone with her sister if Rowan hadn't asked her crush. Was Agnes really a last resort because Elsie didn't want to be by herself? The Slytherin turned away, nodding in fake understanding and proceeded to continue walking a little towards another group of people. suddenly wanting anything else to take her mind off how she was feeling. Why did she even care what Elsie thought? "You're welcome," It was a cold response but if she was purely here to act as a wing woman for the older girl then it was all she was going to muster. "So, what did you want to do?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest defensively. Maybe Elsie wanted someone to talk to about the students she liked herself, but the third year tried to keep the jealously from her own mind.

Elsie grinned at Agnes, but her smile faltered and she frowned as Agnes seemed to become upset about something. Elsie couldn't figure out what had just happened, but she wanted to fix it, she likes Agnes and she wanted the Slytherin to have a good time tonight, not a bad one. She turned away and Elsie reached out, but stopped herself and followed her quickly instead. She could see the Agnes was crossing her arms and the tone of her voice seemed upset or something, but that couldn't be right because Elsie couldn't see what she might have done to illicit the response. She walked around Agnes, taking in the girls dress as she did so, the way it looked on her and the way her hair sat. She really liked Agnes, she wished she was more capable of telling her, but this wasn't the kind of thing one could just come out and say. "Agnes... are you alright? What's wrong?" She couldn't understand it, she wanted to have a great night, a memorable one with someone who wasn't Rowan for once, someone she liked. "Did I do something?"
