Lucy Kaster couldn't think of anything she wanted to do. She didn't want to sit around in the common room all day and she didn't want to stay in the Library either. She had thought about going to the Kitchens and making cream pies, but she couldn't remember how to make them and then she thought about what she would do with them. She could have thrown them at people but she wouldn't want to do that. She might have thrown them at Tama or Sam, but not at people she barely even knew. She shook her head as she headed down the steps from the Seventh floor and made her way to the Great Hall. She wasn't sure what time it was, but it was sometime after the normal breakfast time, seeing as the Great Hall was all but empty. She shrugged, she didn't really mind, whilst it was true that she was extremely personable, she was just as happy to be in a much smaller group, besides, if she found anyone that she thought she might want to talk too, it would be much easier to do so without fifty zillion voices yelling and screaming in her ear. She always liked breakfast, it was her favourite meal of the day, but she had forgotten to come down for breakfast that day. She was so used to her mother or Hayden calling her down to eat that it had completely slipped her mind. She had been so completely engrossed in a book, she hadn't even stopped to think about the fact that she was no longer at home and that she wouldn't be getting a food call. She shook her head. It had been a book about Quidditch, she loved Quidditch and she loved books and when the two were combined, it didn't always make such a good combination.

Lucy looked around the hall. There were a couple of other students but not as many as she would have thought. She walked along the hall, between the tables until she found a section of the table that held food she liked. Lucy wasn't some health nut. In fact she avoided healthy foods whenever possible, but she had promised her mother that she would at least eat some vegetables. That promise was not to be upheld today. For a start it was still the morning, at least she was pretty sure it was, so she was not going to eat any vegetables in the morning, secondly, the section of the table she had picked, did not have any healthy food. There was toast, cream and some fruit, but everyone knew that too much fruit was bad for you and seeing as Lucy was an avid eater of fruit, it was probably bad for her. She smirked to herself and grabbed a bunch of fruit from their platters and became rather intent on making herself a mixed platter, fruit salad was a word for it to, but she thought fruit platter sounded classy. She chopped and peeled to perfection, or so she thought, in all honesty it was a huge mess that was going to take the house elves forever to clean, but Lucy would help, if they let her.

Matt Greene was not dressed in his Gryffindor robes, which was a change for him. He liked his worn clothing, but the robes were a lot nicer. But he was not going to be wearing them all of the time. He just liked wearing normal clothing from time to time. But for now, it was breakfast time, but he was hungry. He needed something to eat, and he was getting to the point where even vegetables would taste good. Matt hated potatoes, but there was a reason for that. It was nice to have three meals a day. Mason was used to it, but Matt was not. Walking down from the dorms was a work out too, and he moved his brown hair from his face. His gray eyes were somewhat tired right now too. He was just waking up, and he had no tolerance from people right now. Well, stupid people. He had encountered a few, and it was still hard for him to budge. He had little tolerance to do anything too big too. At least that was the way he was feeling today. He did not want to have to find a place to sit and have to ask people to sit down either. As soon as he entered the Great Hall, Matt saw at once that he could not find Belladonna to sit with.

However he did not. Instead he sat down next to a girl in his house and started loading his own plate up on things that he enjoyed. Fruit, toast, things like that. He avoided vegetables like they were the plague. Matt absolutely he hated them but he was not about to do anything to change his appetite. He looked down at the plate and he buttered his toast before he took a small bite, savoring it. The food was so much better than what he was raised on. The Gryffindor looked over to the girl's plate and saw that she was peeling the fruit. He raised an eyebrow and he inquired, "How did you do that?" He gestured toward the sliced and peeled fruit. He had never had to do that, and wondered how to do that at all. He raised an eyebrow, and wondered if she would actually talk to him. He would not mind either way, but he was merely curious. He would not mind learning to do that for Mason. Mason loved fruit and stuff like that.

Lucy replaced her wand into her pocket as she finished with her chopping and slicing. She had to admit, that spell came in handy. She rather doubted that the professors would allow students just to carry around knives like that. Maybe they did. Lucy's mother was a squib so she could do this either way, she was going to have to ask these elves that. If she was allowed to have a knife, surely they would know. She shrugged and moved on to one of the banana's. She really liked banana's though her favourite fruit was Peaches and Pears, but she didn't see any of them where she was sitting. That was unfortunate. They were really great in fruit salad. She pushed her hair out of her face and looked down at her master piece and smiled. Fruit Salad was one of the best inventions in the world. Who ever decided that Fruit Salad should become a food, Lucy was going to find them and marry them because they were obviously after her own heart. She was about to start eating when she noticed the boy beside her had asked her a question. She had been completely oblivious to the fact. She was a horrible person. Was she that engrossed in what she was doing that she didn't even register that something had been said to her? That couldn't be right, could it? She face palmed and turned to the boy, smiling. "I'm really, really sorry, but what did you say?"

Lucy really hoped he didn't think she had been ignoring him. She hadn't done it on purpose. It was just that sometimes, she didn't register things, not when she was engrossed in doing something where she had to concentrate. That had a lot to do with why she was late to class a lot too. Especially if she had slept in. "I wasn't ignoring you on purpose, honest." She figured she might as well clear that up now. She felt like a complete idiot. She really had to learn to be more observant and to pay attention, that was kind of the whole point wasn't it? Hayden had told her many a time that if she was not going to pay attention she had no business being at that school and she would be home schooled instead. She didn't want to be home schooled. Hayden was manic about scheduling.

Matt was a little befuddled when the girl did not immediately answer him. Did he say something bad? Or maybe she did not know English, so he did not really say anything more. It was not really his problem then. He just felt confused. Taking a piece of toast, he nibbled on it, not used to having so much food in one place. He really needed some house elves for him and his brother. Matt continued to nibble on his toast, his grey eyes looking up to see if one of the owls would ever come around and bring him a letter from his brother. Then he heard the girl speak to him, distracting him to watching the owls. He looked over at her and how she was apologizing, and asking what he had said. He made sure that no food was in his mouth as he said, "Oh, I was asking how you did that. The peeling of the fruit. It looks professional." Matt was just curious, and like any curious person, he was going to start asking questions. Was it magic or something? A skill he could learn for his brother? It would definitely be nice and whatnot.

The girl even said that she was not ignoring him on purpose, and how she was being honest about that. He was not that bothered at all by it. He was just relieved that he would be getting his answer soon enough. "Oh, that's okay. You seemed really involved in... Doing what you were doing. I'm Matt by the way." She looked like a Gryffindor, was sitting at the Gryffindor table, so everything seemed all good to him. Then again, Matt often tried to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. All he wanted to do was to keep having people on his side, in case he needed something. Well, that just sounded bad. He wanted to enjoy the company of other people, and wanted to having some friends and relationships. Of course that came with some enemies which he had made already for no apparent reason except for his house colors and the people he hung around with.

Lucy looked down at the fruit she had peeled when the boy mentioned that they had been his question. Professional? Really? Well that was new. She had never thought of them as being professional. She supposed they did look a little professional, not that she knew what professionally peeled fruit looked like. Hayden's had certainly looked professional and so had her mother's, though they were done by hand with no magic. Lucy looked back at the boy and shrugged, pulling her wand back out of her pocket and waving it over the fruit again. "Oh, it's nothing special really. It's just a simple housekeeping spell. There are so many, I only remember a few that I was taught. Like this one and also one to fix my hair in the morning." She laughed slightly towards the end of the sentence. She was used to her mother or Hayden brushing her hair in the morning that when she knew she was coming to Hogwarts, she had made sure to listen to that particular spell. She hated doing her hair. She liked plats and she didn't know how to either plat, nor braid, it was a sad reality really. Whilst she did hate the fact that her family wasn't here, Sammy having graduated before she got here, she was also happy with the fact that this gave her the chance to see how she was away from her family. As it was, she had already encountered a girl she didn't like. She didn't really know how it happened, but they had just rubbed each other the wrong way or something. She also had a stupid name, like a rock.

He introduced himself and Lucy nodded, "I'm Lucy. If you want, I could show you the spell, it honestly makes peeling fruit so much easier." She didn't mention the fact that she was surprised he hadn't seen his parents using it. Maybe he was a Muggle-born or something? Or he could have been like her. She was the child of a squib after all. Though her father, whoever he was, was a wizard, she hadn't ever met him that she could remember. Hayden was her other parent, not her own father. "I know one or two other spells that could come in handy if you want. One is for hair, another one can make your bed for you." At home she was never allowed to use that spell, her mother always insisted she do it the muggle way. Of course she hadn't used magic much until she was in Hogwarts, magic wasn't much allowed in her house, not since Hamish anyway. It was stupid really.

The girl that it was nothing special and how it was a simple housekeeping spell. Matt did not know what that was, but he thought it was cool regardless what she would think of it. She also knew one to fix her hair in the morning. That was something that Matt would never need since he normally just put water on it, and combed it. That was all his hair required. "Oh, still. I've never seen or heard of anything like it." It was obvious to tell that Matt was not from around the parts based on his lack of knowledge of magic. Matt did not mind if other people knew that he was new to the magic. After all, what could they say about him that would harm him? Possibly nothing. He could not be harmed by words. It would not be until his twin brother attended the school until he would be able to show off more of his protective side. He was still surprised that a spell fixed the girl's hair. It did not look too bad. She looked cute enough, but Matt brushed it off. He did not have crushes on girls anyway. He was too focused on learning the environment to pass on to Mason. Matt clasped his hands together and looked down at the table as he wondered what else there was to say. Not much really, he was just one of those awkward people still, just coming out of the shell.

The other Gryffindor's name was Lucy. That was a common name, wasn't it? He heard it a bit when he was on the streets, watching the passers by. "Um, that's okay, Lucy. I'll just stick to the old fashion way. I don't want to mess up on something like that." He did not know what the spell did and would rather read it in a book. He did not want to admit that he had never used magic beyond this, but he did not mind if people figured it out on their own. She mentioned that she could show him two other spells, and he shook his head politely. "No thanks. I'm just getting used to having to fix my hair." He almost admitted that he was getting used to having a bed, but he managed to cover that up well. "You are certainly polite to teach a stranger the spells, you know." Matt looked over at the girl before he gave her a small smile. He effectively covered a huge, private part of his life and and he was proud.
