Closed On The Road

Hester loved travelling with the family to perform, but the down time between shows could get a little boring. It used to be that she and her brothers would all go to the park together, storming the grounds as a band of pirates or engaging in frantic and heroic battles in the depths of space. Now, though, they were all too mature, too cool to come to the park with her at all. They were all off doing... whatever teenagers did at the mall and Hester was by herself, uninvited to the mall, sitting idly on a swingset and trying to figure out what to do. Sure, she could play alone, but... it wouldn't be the same. And what would she even play? Her brothers had always been the ones to make up the games, Hester following after in their footsteps, but now... she stared idly at the playground in front of her, trying to kickstart her imagination to give her something to do. This was just no fun alone.

Ricky had been bored at home, with most of his family gone out for work or doing their own thing at home. There wasn't much to do at home anyways. He grabbed his skateboard, and skated towards the park nearest to him, hoping it would somehow cure his boredom. Once Ricky had reached the park, he had seen that there weren't many people around, only a girl on the swing set of the playground and a couple of people walking around the park. Ricky continued to do a few laps on his skateboard for a while. When Ricky was uninterested in doing laps, he saw that the girl he had seen on the swing set earlier was still there and there was a free swing next to hers. Ricky made his way to the free swing, placing his skateboard to the side of the swing and sat down in the swing. "Hi" Ricky said to the girl.

Hester had seen the boy with the skateboard making laps around the park, occasionally watching him go past and wishing she knew how to skateboard. At least she would have something to do by herself. It was a pleasant surprise when the boy approached, and Hester quickly gave him a smile as he sat next to her. "Hi." She said happily, already perking up a little with someone to talk to. "I'm Hester, what's your name?"
