After a year it seemed highly improbable that Veronica didn't knew all of Hogwarts like the palm of her hand but the fact was that she had never been to the courtyard so she decided to pay it a visit. She was looking for her brother because after leaving the train she barely saw him anymore, it didn't even seemed that they shared the same house.
She knew that sometimes he hung out with some boys there so she decided to go to the courtyard also mostly because of that. After getting a bit more information on their brother's motives to go to Ilvermorny there were still some questions around the girls head that didn't make much sense and maybe Ruben's prespective was what she could be missing.
She took a look around but he was nowhere in sight, the Slytherin girl decided she wouldnmt be leaving just yet, the courtyard was actually a cool space that she was starting to like so she decided to sit down on the stony edge of the little pond that was in the middle of the open space. It was a particularly sunny winter day so she decided to stay there a bit longer, at least u til she started getting too cold.

After being back at the school for a couple of days Mackenzie was already starting to get annoyed again by most of her roommates. Most, not all of them. There were a few she could stand, perhaps secretely even started to be cool with hanging out with. However, the rest of them was still terribly loud and annoying and she had to get out of there if she didn't want to go crazy before they had even started class. She normally wouldn't be as quick to go outside but with all the excited first years running around the castle Mackenzie figured that might be the best place to not be surrounded by any annoying kids for a second. The grounds were huge anyways, so she'd always be ready to move to another spot. Or just shoot them a dirty look untill they'd leave. Whichever would work. As she made her way outside she was relieved to see the courtyard wasn't that busy, yet at the same time surprised to see a girl sitting down on the cold stones. She recognized her from class and was sure the girl was a second year as well, just not a ravenclaw which made her figure she could at least say something to her, see how she'd react. Perhaps she'd turn out to be someone she could get along with. "You know there's plenty of space on the benches right?" Mackenzie asked after she had walked over to the girl, arms crossed and one eyebrow slightly raised as she did. In her own view of the situation a bench would've been a lot more comfortable than the stones which were bound to be at least a bit chilly.

Veronica noticed a girl approaching her, a girl that she had noticed in class because besides herself she was probably one the most beautiful girls at school. She wasn't sure of her name or anything but she guessed that like all pretty girls she had a difficult temperament.
To the Slytherin girl's surprise the pretty girl actually moved towards her and talked to her. "Yeah but none of them are near this..." she said gesturing at the mass of water behind her not really sure how to call it "Let's say pond" she finally said with a controlled chuckle "I don't know but being near the water helps me think more clearly and relax" she added.
Veronica moved to one side of the stony egde of the pond to let the other side free in case the girl wanted to sit down. She knew this girl wasn't a Slytherin, she would have noticed if she shared a room with her "So what made you come down here?" she asked, all the other houses were in floors above the ground floor so it was safe to say that she had came downstairs for a reason.

Mackenzie wasn't someone who'd just walk up to anyone and start a conversation, so what she ws doing right now was quite rare for her to do. She wasn't even completely sure why she had said anything to begin with but now that she had she figured she might as well test what the girl was like. One thing she did now for sure was that the other girl wasn't in her house, which could be a huge plus if she turned out to be agreeable. She gave a small nod at the girl's explanation although she wondered why she'd come out here to think when class hadn't even started yet. How much could she have to think about? "Needed a break from the girls in my dorm." Mackenzie answered matter of factly. "Can't stand most of them and outside seemed to be the furthest away from them." She added with very little emotion or care about what the other girl might think of that.

Veronica let out a small chuckle, clearly this girl also had the same problem as she did "Same here but the fact that they are Slytherins help I think." she said "They are more quiet than most" she added. This girl clearly wasn't a Slytherin, Veronica would remember her if she was, so she had to be in another house and honestly Hufflepuff and Gryffindor girls didn't seem to be particularly quiet so maybe this girl was from one of those houses. Ravenclaw gorls were probably too busy reading books to ever make a beep. "I'm Veronica" she said putting a strand of hair behind her ear and trying to give the other girl a friendly look, however that was. Her brother seemed to have that expression always glued to his face and it clearly worked since he had more friends than her.

Mackenzie shrugged when the girl mentioned her dormmates being slytherins, which for some reason made her reason that was why they probably weren't as loud as the girls in other houses. She didn't fully see what a house had to do with how loud others were but whatever. At least it had given her an answer to what house the girl had been sorted into. She knew they were in the same year, had seen her in class but never paid a lot of attention to robe colours and such. The fact that she didn't completely recall the girl's name or any other details did mean that she wasn't someone that had annoyed her so far because she had absolutely no trouble remembering the faces of kids that annoyed her. "Mackenzie." She introduced herself when the other girl, Veronica, did so. Even if she wasn't the most outgoing student at the school and she didn't feel the need to socialize with anyone and everyone that didn't mean she didn't have any manners. If someone introduced themselves to her she'd return the favour. Politeness never hurt anyone. "What were you thinking about anyways?" She asked, although in all honesty she didn't care what it was. What she did care about was the fact that she had to make a couple of friends this year. Students she could be seen with, students that didn't annoy her, tolerable people and so far this girl seemed like she might just be one. The only way to find out if she really was was to continue at least some sort of conversation and so that was exactly what she did.

Veronica was caught a little off guard but she guess she had it coming when she told the other girl that she was there to think clearly. A rookie mistake. She could lie about it and say something like she was thinking of how her hair looked shorter, how the whole Liusaidh and Giselle thing in her dorm was a bit exhausting and that's why she was there, but she didn't care about any of those things. She didn't have any intention of cutting her hair and she honestly couldn't care less about the tension between her dorm mates, so the only option she could think of was telling the truth "Oh just family stuff" she said. The reason behind Valentin's transfer was still bothering her, the only thing he had told them during the break was that he didn't like Hufflepuff and that the house simply didn't match his real self. Veronica could understand that but she couldn't understand how you go from that to asked to be transferred. Maybe he had gotten jealous about she and Ruben getting in the same house. "You know that can be uh..." the Slytherin girl said struggling with findind a word. A trainwreck? No. A living hell? No. A declaration of war? "Quite stressful" she ended up saying. Veronica did tell the truth, but the truth had different meanings for different occasions and this occasion required a vague truth.
She thought about how she could change the subject, she had barely met the girl and she didn't knew much about her but she doubted that Mackenzie was an open book "So what house are you in?" Veronica ended up asking.

Mackenzie raised an eyebrow when the girl mentioned she had been thinking about family stuff. It was a vague description but she could appreciate the fact that Veronica wasn't just going to share her thoughts with anyone. She would do the same. Her personal business was her business after all, no one else's. "I guess." She shrugged at the mention of family stuff being stressful. Personally, her family never gave her anything stress. Didn't give her much at all really. Family was a big word as well, seeing it was just her dad and her and he seemed to prefer not having her at all. "Ravenclaw." Mackenzie answered when the girl changed the subject, asking her which house she was in. "Don't ask me why though." She added indifferently. Her sorting had been confusing to her ever since it happened and even though she had somewhat accepted it that didn't mean she fully know why she had been sorted into the house.

Ravenclaw was Veronica's first choice, she would have liked to be placed there. She wasn't the smartest or brightest people in the room but she would consider herself a wise person or at least a person with the skills to become wise. She couldn't help but feel a bit of jealousy but Slytherin wasn't half bad.
Clearly the girl had no idea why she was in Ravenclaw and Veronica wasn't in the mood to brainstorm with her the reasons why, and neither the girl seemed to be fond of something like that. Veronica didn't knew Mackenzie very well but Ravenclaw kind of made sense if she thought just for a bit, Mackenzie had a careful approach to things. Veronica could sense that the other girl was careful with her thoughts, her sentences, giving her just enough to keep the conversation and nothing more. Maybe that careful approach could he a Ravenclaw trait, thinking things in a more logic way instead of an emotional one. "Oh I know exactly why I am in Slytherin" Veronica said with a devilish look in her face. It didn't took her long to understand why the hat had chosen Slytherin for her but still, she would have preferred Ravenclaw.

After a year Mackenzie wasn't quite sure why she had been placed in Ravenclaw. She was smart sure, definitely intelligent but she felt like that couldn't be the only reason for her to have been placed there. Then again she didn't know where else she would fit. Maybe it wasn't all that bad. Maybe she had just been a little bit unlucky with her peers. Or maybe it was her. No, it wasn't her. She was fine. She had manners, she wasn't loud and obnoxious. She wasn't the problem. Mackenzie raised an eyebrow when the other girl said she knew exactly why she was sorted where she was. "Really.." She questioned, crossing her arms. "Do tell." There were certain things about the girl that could make her guess parts of why she might've been placed in Slytherin but she was also smart enough to know there were always underlying motives. Things they might not even know about themselves yet.

Veronica grinned at the girl, it seemed like she had spiked her interest "That would be too easy" she said chuckling. Veronica was not the one to be straight to the point, at least not with most people, she prefers to be vague and let other people wondering. Not to mention that when other people have too much information on her that can get dangerous, she tells that to Ruben over and over again but he keeps being stubborn and keeps being an open book for anyone who's willing to read him.
Veronica tucked a strand of hair behind her hear and started playing with the pendant of her necklace, it was a red gemstone, a family heirloom for the first born girl. The necklace was supposed to glow in case she was in danger but until now it never did, that story was either fake or Veronica really did know how to fend for herself "It's way more interesting if you stick around and try to figure out" she said grinning. Giving Mackenzie the ins and outs of her personality not only was dangerous but could also come as a bad thing, Veronica has what most people consider bad traits and in theory they are, but on the real world they often come in handy.

Mackenzie raised an eyebrow at the girl when she refused to tell her why exactly she thought she had been sorted into slytherin. Veronica seemed pretty sure of herself, which was something she could appreciate. In certain ways. What she didn't understand was why she'd been so confident in her words and then refused to further explain herself. She could understand if the girl was protecting herself in some way. Personally, she wouldn't just going around sharing things about herself with everyone and anyone either. "Oh, honey, no." Mackenzie responded dryly, giving a little shake of her head. "You mistake me for someone who cares." She added indifferently. If Veronica wasn't going to tell her what she believed were the reasons, were her qualities, for being sorted into her house then Mackenzie wouldn't bother spending any more time on the subject. She certainly wasn't going to wait or stick around for an answer either. She did slightly appreciate the girl's attitude so far though, in her head starting to wonder whether this was someone she could survive hanging out with.
