Now that Sammy was 10, his parents let him go to the park by himself. This was the first year his sister, Kara, was away at Hogwarts. He would never admit to missing her, but the truth was he did. Sammy had a few muggle friends that he played soccer with. He doubted any of them were magical or going to Hogwarts. When he arrived at Tākarokaro Park he looked around, a little disappointed that there weren't a lot of other kids. His eyes followed a person who was walking their dog and he smiled. Sammy had tried begging his parents for a dog, but they wouldn't go for it since he would be leaving for Hogwarts in another year and a half.

It was quite chilly and Sammy's mom made him bundle up in a few layers. He carried his soccer ball over to the empty grass area. Sammy began to kick the ball around, hoping somebody might join him soon. It was Sunday and he had spent most of his weekend indoors with school and chores. No matter how much he argued about it, his parents were persistent. He thought muggle homework was stupid. It's only half right anyway. Sammy wheeled back his leg and kicked the ball as hard as he could. The ball went soaring across the grasslands. He grimaced, not expecting it to go that far and quickly chased after it to find where it landed.

Delilah could not say she was particularly happy to be at the park on a bright Sunday afternoon. She knew this probably made her a little odd but she didn't really care. But it was far better then saying at home. She was going stir crazy being cooped up all day, it was bad enough that she had to move to the other side of the world. She just really needed to get out of the house. Thankfully it had been easy to convince her parents to let her walk to the park. They were both too busy unpacking, and fighting in hushed voices that they thought she couldn’t hear, to pay her much attention. She was just grateful they hadn't insisted she bring her little brother along.

It was a nice day, she could admit and as Delilah walked towards a set of swings she hardly noticed soccer ball flying right at her head. It missed her face, just barely and she gasped. Everyone always said she seemed to have bad luck but thankfully today seemed to be an exception. She walked over and picked up the ball that had almost smashed her face and saw a boy chasing after it. "Umm...is this yours?" she asked when he got closer. Of course it was, that was a silly question. He had been chasing it. Not to mention he was the only other person in the park.

Running up the hill, Sammy discovered his ball in the hands of a girl who looked close in age to him. He gave her a quick smile and reached out for the ball. "Yeah," Sammy nodded. "You can play with me if you want to." He added, in case she wanted to join him. Over the last year, he had gotten better sharing his things with others. His mom clued him in that it might help him make more friends. The kids he played soccer with on his muggle team often did things without him. Sammy wanted to try to make friends and be nice. He was tired of being left out.

Delilah hesitated and bit her lip. She wasn’t particularly good at soccer, or really any sport despite her parent’s best attempts. But he seemed nice and it would probably be weird if she just sat in the park alone while he kicked around a ball, also alone. “Umm..sure but I’m not very good.” She said, feeling like she had to explain herself. “My name is Delilah.” she said bluntly. “Do, you live around here?” she asked, of course he must if he was able to be here by himself. She wondered if they were neighbors. “I just moved here from London.” she said, hoping that might make her seem more interesting than she was.
