Hester was starting to grow more settled in her new magical life, having been here for half a year now. Magic still didn't really feel real all of the time, but she was at least used to it. She had been so busy being shocked and awestruck by everything she saw in her first semester though, that she hadn't done a very good job of making friends. At least she had had the sense to pick up a friend all of her own before coming to Hogwarts. Big Douglas was huge and beautiful, and Hester wished she could take him everywhere with her. She had decided to spend her Saturday afternoon giving him a treat. The warm weather probably wasn't his favourite, so she had carefully brought the giant toad down to the lake's edge, setting him in the muddy shallows and watching as he bathed and croaked contentedly.

Hunter was hanging out on the lake, he probably spent too much time outside for his own good. His grades weren't bad at all but he knew he definitely needed to study a bit or else he'd end up getting behind in class.
He was hanging on the lake when suddenly he was splashed by something hitting the water, he looked down to see a huge frog on the water and a girl right behind him. For a moment he looked at her serious but then he started laughing, it wasn't on his plans to get a bit wet but he certainly did enjoy the cold water on him.
"Since your frog seems to enjoy the water it wouldn't be much of a punishment for him" he said laughing and throwing the girl some water as payback. He hoped the girl wasn't wearing a good outfit that couldn't get wet.

Hester was perfectly contented to sit crosslegged on the edge of the lake and watch Big Douglas enjoying his time in the water, not really paying attention to anything going on around her. She only looked up when she heard a voice, frowning slightly at the sight of a boy she recognised from lessons, but didn't think she had talked to before. "He's a toad, not a frog." She said firmly, moving closer to Big Douglas protectively. She didn't know what this boy wanted with her, but if he was a bully she didn't want anything happening to Big Douglas. "And it's not punishment, Big Douglas loves the water!"

"Oops sorry" Hunter said. He wasn't sure what the difference was between a toad and a frog but if he wanted to become a magizoologist he'd have to know those sorts of things. Or maybe he didn't, toads and frogs were not magical animals and a magizoologist would only deal with magical creatures ao maybe he wouldn't ever need to know what is the difference between a toad and a frog.
"Oh, your toad's name is Big Douglas? That's a funny name. Mine is Hunter by the way" he said smiling and extending his hand for the girl to shake. She seemed cautious, hopefully not cautious enough to make a friend.

Hester smiled when the boy said her toad had a funny name. "Well, he's big, and he looks like a Douglas." She commented, gently petting Big Douglas. The toad that had caught her eye and heart immediately upon entering the pet shop had been the biggest of the giant toads, and she couldn't be prouder of her absurdly sized boy. "Hunter is a pretty funny name, too. Mine is Hester." She commented, lightly splashing water onto Big Douglas.

There had been splashing. A lot of splashing in the lake. There was often splashing once the shore-dwellers returned, but the eel could tell this was made by something small and delicious. Something the eel could probably get away with eating. It drifted closer to the shore, the water rippling silently around its long body as it approached, but the small, splashing thing was too far. The eel could never reach it without beaching itself. Disappointed, the eel flicked its tail, a loud splash as it broke the water's surface, before the eel dived back down into the depths of the lake and out of sight.

Hunter lowered himself so he could face the toad "Well, it's very nice to meet you Big Douglas" he said with a smiling face and splashing it a bit "and you too Hester" he added looking up at the girl. She seemed like a person that didn't trust others easily and Hunter had really never dealt with someone like that, everyone usually opened up to him after just a few minutes.
Hunter immediately stood up again in a flash "What was that?" he said referring to the loud splash that he had just heard. Of course Hester wouldn't probably know either but those kind of questions are almost like a reflex.

Hester smiled as the boy said it was nice to meet them, opening her mouth to reply. She was distracted though, by a movement up ahead in the water that was unmistakably... huge. She watched the tail as the big.... thing sunk back into the lake's depths in awe. "I dunno!" She gasped. "It looked like... a big snake or eel or something! Like, a really, really massive one, not normal!"

Hunter looked at the girl "I swam on that lake already!" he said pointing to the lake and with an incredulous face that turned into a chuckle after a bit. "Never again. Don't wanna be killed by some sort of water snake" he kept saying with some chuckles but meaning every word, from now on he would just be above the water level. "What are you doing out here anyway? Enjoying the sun?" he asked the girl glancing to the bright sun and then putting his hand on his forehead to make shadow for eyes.
