HoM Lesson One

Kinsey woke far earlier than necessary as she was excited for the first lesson of History of Magic for the year so with an excess of time on her young hands Kinsey fiddled with her appearance. She had naturally curly hair so Kinsey took the time to straighten it with the aid of a potion then re-curling her hair to more stylized ringlets so she would not have the hair her sister donned every day at Hogwarts: big, bushy and unkempt. It was a real distraction to Kinsey when she looked like that as she felt self-conscious. She knew that women were judged on their appearances and would not be given fair opportunities if they didn’t look perfect. She aimed to not give anyone a reason to think she was unprofessional - especially from first glances.

With her morning routine done, Kinsey straightened her blue tie and went down to the History of Magic classroom, politely smiling at Professor Sword before taking the seat she had the previous year. When everyone had arrived, the woman made a terrible pun and as kind as Kinsey wanted to be she cringed. She was tempted to boo the woman but no - she wanted to do well and actually was one of the few who liked History of Magic. She knew they would not be doing much over the start of the class but listened anyway and wrote down their assignment before they were dismissed so Kinsey could work on the short essay.

Kauri had never thought of himself as the kind of person to actually miss school when he wasn't in it, but over the holidays he had found himself turning to his textbooks over and over again for something to do, looking forward to the year ahead at Hogwarts. Learning magic was just so exciting, and Kauri loved every moment, looking forward to every new spell. It helped with the occasional loneliness he felt in the holidays, more and more isolated from his muggle friends every year. The party he had attended in the holidays had helped with that loneliness too, and ever since returning to school, Kauri had been walking on air every time he thought about his girlfriend.

History of Magic wasn't one of the subjects Kauri was overly excited for, but he was here anyway. He often struggled with paying attention in the long lectures, even when the content of the lesson was something he found interesting. Kauri was determined to do his best though, smiling at April's dad as he took his usual seat near the front of the class. He listened as Professor Ward introduced the subject they would be covering this year, eyes widening slightly as his interest was piqued. Kauri didn't know much about the founders of Hogwarts, and he was excited for the opportunity to learn more. He was excited to actually look forward to History of Magic this year, and when class was over he packed up his things and headed to the library, to get a head start on his essay.

Homework said:
Godric Gryffindor was born in a small country town in western England, which came to be known as Godric's Hollow, after him. Not much is known of his life before founding Hogwarts, but he was a duellist of much reknown, both with wands and swords, and owned a goblin-forged sword. He was the creator of the Sorting Hat, and he concealed his duelling sword inside, enchanting the hat so that in their time of need, any true Gryffindor would be able to draw his sword from within. He valued courage and determination, and founded his house with these values in mind. He was initially a close friend of Salazar Slytherin, though the two fought over Salazar's desire to reject muggle-borns from Hogwarts.

Emily was enjoying this, so far. She had been apprehensive about leaving home at first, but she enjoyed watching the other students. It was interesting at least. She had no opinion on her classes yet, but that was alright. She sat in the back, watching the others. She turned her attention to the Professor as she began to speak. She rose her brow at the woman's name but didn't comment on it. She took note here and there as the Professor spoke. She seemed to be passionate about the subject.

She watched as the Professor asked Samantha to pass out papers. Emily remembered meeting her from the train. She gave the girl a polite smile and took the paper before looking it over. Hm, this was interesting. She couldn't help but wonder a moment over the answers the other students would give. She filled hers out and turned it in before leaving the room.

4. Any dark history would be interesting.
5. That would be all from me, thank you.

This was it. Time for classes to begin. Hades Styx the Third looked forward to learning some new magical things, mainly to use for himself and the best of his family’s interest. Hades walked to the classroom with his robes swaying behind him. His bag hung over his shoulder and slightly bumped into his legs as he entered the classroom. He found an empty chair near the rear. He took a seat and folded his hands together. He waited for the lesson to begin. This should be interesting. Interesting indeed.

The professor introduced herself as Professor Sword. That was a peculiar name. Hades glanced around at others that snickered about it before shaking his head. Imbeciles. This was a history class. Some might find it boring. Hades placed his head on his hand. At least the lesson would be cut short. That was thankful. Hades glanced down at the paper he received. He'd have to fill this out then. He packed it away into his bag, got up and left the room upon dismissal.

Kauri had been walking on air ever since Halloween, and it was hard to really keep his mind on what he was doing. He had finally gone on a real, proper date with Rose, and it had gone wonderfully. Any doubts or worries in the back of his mind about not being a good boyfriend were rapidly evaporating. Kauri really enjoyed every moment he got to spend with her, and even though he was once again beginning to feel the weight of his workload at school, Kauri's spirits stayed even higher than usual.

Unfortunately, History of Magic wasn't the best class ever to be entering in a great mood. Kauri struggled to focus on the lectures often, and it would only be more difficult when he had more interesting things to think about. Still, he was determined to do his best, taking his usual seat at the front of the classroom and getting his things ready to take notes. He listened as Professor Ward began the lesson, doing his best to pay attention. It was a relief that the lectures they were having this year had been interesting so far, and Kauri managed not to let his thoughts drift too far, taking notes throughout the lesson. He was relieved that it was a short one, and packed his things up once it was over, thanking Professor Ward before heading off to his next lesson.

Lesson One
Anastasie was glad to be finally back at Hogwarts after a long break. She had enjoyed the extra work with her electives the year before and had done the best she could to get good grades. However, this year she wanted to improve them even more and so was happy to be back at Hogwarts refreshed and ready for a new year of studying ahead of her. The Slytherin packed everything she needed into her backpack before heading out of her dormitory, ready to take on the first week of classes.

As Ana entered the History of Magic classroom she took her usual seat in the room. She wanted to do well in the subject this year as she felt it was one of her best and so made sure to revert her attention to the front of the room as soon as she sat down. The professor began the lesson quickly, introducing herself before asking for an essay on what they have learnt during the previous years. Ana started this quickly, taking out her writing equipment and scribbling down everything she could remember. Eventually the lesson had ended and Ana exited the classroom and headed straight to her next class.

Lesson Two
Anastasie’s first week had gone smoothly and the girl was happy with everything she was doing this year in all of her classes. It was nice to feel confident for the year ahead and Ana felt that she would be able to do a little bit better this year if she was able to keep herself focused. After organising everything she needed for the day, Anastasie packed everything into her backpack and exited her dormitory to head straight to her first class for the day.

Ana's first class was History of Magic and the girl made sure to enter the classroom on time. She reverted her attention to the front of the room as the professor began the lesson and told the class they would need their writing equipment for a lecture. Ana made sure to get it out and tried her best to listen to everything the professor was saying. It was definitely full of information and was admittedly hard for the Slytherin to keep up, especially considering it was only the beginning of the year. Eventually the lesson had ended and Ana was relieved for this. She left the classroom quickly and headed straight to her next class.

Lesson Three
As the third week had started, Hogwarts was slowly starting to get busier. Halloween was only around the corner and Ana had no intention of participating in it. After all, she never celebrated it at home and didn’t feel the need to celebrate it at school when she had so many assignments to complete and studying to do. The Slytherin wanted to keep herself focused and so she ignored all of the chatter about Halloween and just kept to herself as she made her way through the corridors to all of her classes.

Ana's next class was History of Magic and she entered the classroom and took her usual seat, wondering whether or not they would be getting another lecture. Last lesson was definitely a little hard for the Slytherin and she wanted to try to get better at taking notes before her OWL exams in the following year. Unfortunately, they were instead going to be going to the movies in the muggle world and Ana shrugged at this. She figured it would be okay to get a little of of a break and followed her classmates to the portkey that the professor had for them. As she placed her hand on it she was instantly taken away to the muggle world. The movie was definitely not the most interesting thing Ana had ever was but she had enjoyed it nonetheless. When they finally went back to the castle the Slytherin headed straight to her next class.

Lesson Four
Ana was looking forward to her next History of Magic lesson. She hoped that they were going to be lectured again since last lesson was a field trip and so brought everything she needed for it. The Slytherin entered the classroom and quickly took her usual seat. She was glad when the professor started the lesson quickly, telling them that they were going to have to sit through a small lecture. Ana was happy for this and beamed as she took out her writing equipment and listened intently to everything the professor had to say. Smaller lectures were always so much easier for the Slytherin as it gave her more time to process the information and write it all down. Soon enough, the lesson had ended and Ana promptly left the classroom and headed to the library to get a head start on the assigned homework.

Lesson 1

Kace was excited to be back at Hogwarts, and as a second year. He couldn't believe how fast one year had gone by. It was like a quick trip around the world by boat and back again to New Zealand. Or something like that. His first lesson upon his return was a history of magic. Now, in muggle schools, history was usually boring. Kace would know as he had gone to elementary school back in New York. History of Magic was still history, but so much better if you asked him. It won't be a favorite class of his, but he didn't mind learning about witches and wizards of the past. Especially if anyone in history dance with magic, Kace thought it would be cool to hear about dancers from the past too. Kace bounce his usual, energetic self to class. He waves hello at the professor and bounces to one of the empty seats. Kace didn't go down quietly, he laughs and shrugs as the lesson begins. Kace groans, slouching down in his seat. He didn't like writing, he no writer. When he heard they will be doing an essay, he doubts he will be doing any of them. He'll try to do something to at least advance in his studies. At the very least they will be doing essays on famous magicians from history. They will be studying interesting witches and wizards from the past, Kace was all for that. Not writing the essay, but learning about these cool peeps. Kace jumped up from his seat and left the class once the lesson was over.

Lesson 2

Kace came bouncing around to history of magic classroom wearing a big grin on his face. The young Gryffindor was always hype for no reason, his dad would say he had ants in his pants. Kace bounces to the nearest open seat, never claiming one as his own. Today lessons were on Proteus, one of the first known wizards to show sign of animagus. A wizard or witch that can change into creatures or animals. Kace was intrigued, he wanted to learn how to do that! Kace thought of all the possible animals he can change into. The lesson continued with Madame Min and Merlin, Kace heard his dad sometimes say, “Merlin's Beard!” Which he always thought was weird, because his dad was not British. The battle between Madame Mim and Merlin was interesting to learn about. Merlin seemed kinda funny to Kace, he came across annoying. Something Kace might have in common with him. The battle ended with Merlin defeating Madame Mim by getting her sick. Kace thought that's one clever dude! And scary too, Kace probably wouldn't have gone that far. Or, maybe he would if his life was threatened like Merlin's. Kace left the classroom once they were dismissed.

Lesson 3

The third week of history of magic, Kace was starting to like these lessons. Not because they had to write essays, he really didn't like writing. Kace just like hearing about the history of magic and Professor Sword was a great storyteller. These stories were real, but Kace was hearing them for the first time so they almost sounded made up. Kace came bouncing to class, either way, sitting on the first vacant seat he could find. Today's lesson was on Morgan La Fey. She was half-sister to King Arthur and was tutored by Merlin. Supposedly, Morgan stole Arthur's sword and tried to plot out his death. Kace, at this moment, was so glad he was an only child. He didn't get why Morgan wanted to kill her brother, he thought she was crazy. Kace didn't follow much of the rest of the lecture. He really was keen on learning more about Merlin. He sounded so much interesting from what he learned so far. Kace left the classroom once they were dismissed.

Lesson 4

Kace arrived to history of magic bouncing to nearest vacant seat as usual. He took out what Professor Sword requested from them and began to take some notes on today's lesson. It was on Alchemy, Kace before today never heard of the word. Alchemy was the study of chemistry and magic, he was familiar with both. Magic more than chemistry, but had Kace continued his studies with muggles he would be learning about chemistry. The lesson went a little dark learning about Edward Kelley, a British alchemist who failed to create gold. Kace felt bad for the dude, he didn't deserve to be imprisoned and die while trying to escape. It sounded a little harsh to Kace, they were awful back then. Kace listens to rest of the lecture, all of it was brand new to him. His dad was no history buff and Jenny avoided museums like they were contaminated back in New York. Kace finished up the rest of his notes, which were a bit messy and gather his things to leave. He considers reading up on Nicloas Flamel, but not write the essay.

1The year begun with nothing entirely new. Viktor Styx noticed some new professors, unsure if many would be liked by the Ravenclaw Prefect himself. Who knew. Viktor figured that some would directly affect him though. He was sure that Herbology had changed, but knew that a class like Charms and Defence Against the Dark Arts would not. Haden and Styx would likely be teaching until they were ghosts. It wasn’t going to change, and Viktor relied on that. The Ravenclaw walked into the classroom and found his seat in the back. This was where he favored. He did not want to draw too much attention to himself. The prefect never liked a lot of attention to begin with. It made him speak, which he hated doing, especially to others that he did not feel worthy. Once all of the fifth years entered the classroom, it was time to begin the lesson. It was about time since Viktor was starting to lose his patience when it came down to waiting. And then it seemed like it was the introductory lesson. He almost fell asleep before the dismissal.
2Going head first into the NEWT level lessons, Viktor Styx wondered if he was able to handle the full load that he had. He had no electives to worry about, just the core classes. That was all he would need. Viktor also was back in Legilimency full force. And, of course, Styx was not taking it easy on him at all. The Prefect was dealing with it after the holidays. He did love the holidays in a way, since he could relax so much easier. But, this was the NEWT level of classes, and this was Hogwarts, where his future all depended upon it. Viktor strolled into the classroom and found his seat once more. He sat down and opened his equipment. He was ready for the class to begin.

The lecture started not with Gryffindor, but Slytherin. That was a surprise. Viktor got out his notes and started to write it down. The colors were green and silver, which was not news to the Slytherin. The name of the man was Salazar, and he grew up in the fen, which was in England. He was also a Parselmouth and a Legilimens. Now that was eerie to think about. However, he only wanted the pure-bloods have the ability to go to school like Hogwarts, which caused him and Gryffindor to become enemies. Slytherin also built the Chamber of secrets, and placed a basilisk into the chamber. Harry Potter managed to slay the snake with some luck so it never had to terrorize again. Then they were dismissed. Viktor gathered his notes and he left the classroom, not knowing what he thought over the founder of his house.
3The middle of the semester, with Quidditch games underway and Viktor seriously regretting his choices of dropping it, came at full speed for the Ravenclaw prefect. The weeks rushed by and it felt as though everything was becoming a blur as he studied and continued with his training. He had to have that as a priority, and it was showing on his wrinkled robes on how tired he was becoming. Viktor sighed as he walked into the classroom, a little more aggravated than normal as he found his seat. He propped his head on his arm as he focused to remember what the lesson would be over today. It wouldn’t be too much of a surprise if he was given a hint. Viktor kept his eyes open as to not look like he fell asleep, which was very tempting in this position.

Last lesson was over Slytherin, and now it was Gryffindor. He knew it. Getting out his parchment, ink and a quill, he was ready to learn about a new founder. The professor informed them that they were going to be covering Gryffindor, whose first name was Godric. He came from Godric's Hollow which did not seem that hard to remember. He also fought against muggle discrimination and he did not mind that too much. The sorting hat also belonged to Gryffindor and the Gryffindor sword too. They were also told the symbols of the Gryffindor House. Then they were told that the lecture was over and that they were dismissed. Viktor finished his notes up and he packed his things. He left the History of Magic classroom in a hurry to get things done.
5This week was the week before studying. Viktor could only hope that it was just studying because of his extracurriculars were taking a toll on him. The Ravenclaw prefect had not slept soundly in such a long time, not since he was at home and enjoying the holidays. Viktor strolled into the classroom, prepared for the new lesson ahead. After all, it would not be too long before the holidays once more. All he had to do was remain patient, and Viktor was a patient one. Viktor found his seat in the back of the room, and sat down. He opened his notes and prepared for the class, whatever it would be. One would never know in the NEWT level on how rough it would be.

If his calculations were correct, today they were going to be learning about Hufflepuff. Helga Hufflepuff was her name. Viktor started to write down some notes over her, about the animal and the colors. His daughter was in Hufflepuff which could sound a little biased. He wrote down the other small facts about her. It was interesting how close she was to Ravenclaw. With that, they were dismissed.

With it being her final semester, Corrine had determined to do her very best in her classes. That determination was still there, even as she entered the class just before the bell and covering a yawn. Settling into her seat, she was happy to see the professor hadn't yet arrived and would have no clue just how close she had been to being late.

He arrived soon enough and jumped straight into the lesson, at which point Corrine was prepared to take notes. They were studying Greek mythology, which made Corrine smile. She'd grown up on these stories, the Gorgon sisters and Medusa in particular. Corrine always found their stories fascinating and had always been sad about the Perseus story and her beheading. Medusa was powerful. Corrine sighed as the professor ended the lecture there, with Medusa's defeat and began to close up her books and pack her bag. She put her bag on her shoulder and headed out.

Lesson 3
Corrine had been sitting and staring at the exam in front of her for a few minutes, anxiety settling in as none of the answers immediately came to her. The teenager could only imagine being called to the Headmistress to be told that she alone wouldn't be receiving her wizarding degree. Corrine sighed, dropping her head to her hand. Her elbow shifted on the desk as she settled it down. Corrine looked through the questions again and then found one that she knew. Her anxiety dissipated slightly. And she continued on. By the time, she handed in the exam there were still a few blank questions and Corrine knew she had a lot of studying to do. Perhaps that study group that she'd created for OWLs would come in handy again. Corrine resolved to speak to Cullen and Rose about it at dinner as she headed out of class.
