Lesson Missed: One

To say that Kauri was stressed about returning to Hogwarts would be an understatement. He felt, as he always did, relieved to be back after being away from the magical world for so long, but this year had brought an unexpected storm of things to worry about. His problems with Rose wouldn't leave his head, even when she was far away living her own life, and he was stuck here at Hogwarts. A place he now only had a single year left at before he would be off on his own. Kauri wasn't used to making decisions for himself, and he was worried about his life without the structure of school to guide him. While he was still here though, he had also gained a new responsibility to worry about. Being Head Boy was a huge honour, but after last year, Kauri really needed to make sure he did the job well, follow in the footsteps of better Head Boys, like Flavio. Kauri liked being looked up to as a good example, but he wanted to make sure he was making the best of that, and do well at everything he tried.

And for some reason, one of those things was Defense Against the Dark Arts. Kauri didn't know what had posessed him to keep up with this subject for so long; Professor Styx was terrifying, and the subject itself was grisly at best. Every time Kauri considered not signing up for it though, he was haunted by thoughts of what might happen if he gave up Defense, and then got attacked by a more powerful wizard. He liked to think people were nice enough that that was unlikely to happen, but Kauri knew it would be foolish to take that as a given. So he listened as Professor Styx told them what they would be covering this year, taking notes of everything the Professor talked about. He would have to be absolutely sure to do all his reading ahead for this class, not wanting to risk angering Professor Styx. It was a relief once the lesson was over and Kauri packed his things up, glad to get away from this gloomy room.

Analei was definitely enjoying being back at school, and was especially loving her new title of Prefect. It made it all the bit sweeter that Arvel was a Prefect with her as well, she would have hated having to do it without him. The Prefect was also happy to have Zennon back in her life, who she didn't even realize how much she had missed.
Entering the classroom, Analei smiled at Zennon, before taking her normal seat next to Arvel. She was surprised to see that they would be reviewing something so early in the year, but she figured it was probably going to be in their exam, so she quickly retook notes, even though it was all things that she knew. Analei quickly put her hand up to answer the question, but someone else was chosen; at least it was someone in Hufflepuff, though Analei didn't know Pippa very well. Analei continued to jot down notes as the Professor continued speaking, and was again surprised that they weren't given any homework. It all seemed too easy for her OWL year.

Lesson Missed: 2 & 3

Sam's first week had gone fairly well, even though it was still early in the semester the girl had found a good way to keep up with her classes and the homework the professors gave to the students. So far, it hadn't been terrible to take everything, but she wasn't naive enough to believe that everything would definitely go smoothly just because her first week was great. She still had to work very hard and earn the grades - after all, she wasn't near being done trying to impress her father. Sam grabbed her belongings and headed to class, taking a seat at the front as usual once she arrived to Defence. She automatically took out her writing equipment and began to write notes as the professor lectured, not focusing on anything or anyone else.

Thankfully, unlike some of her other classes, here no one bothered to talk since it was her head of house who was the professor and he certainly made sure that the students were listening. If they weren't, well, it wasn't her problem. Sam needed to do well, she reminded herself. It was OWL year after all. Not to mention, she felt more competitive than ever this year. With herself, and occasionally with her classmates. She kept up with Styx as he lectured, glancing at the clock every now and again to see how much longer she had left to finish her note-taking. It was all very interesting stuff, but she frowned when the man was finished. It seemed easier work than she had expected, and they had no homework. Sam didn't know whether to be relieved or not. When they were dismissed she packed away her things and headed to the common room.

EDIT: to add another lesson post (sorry!!)

Sam’s semester was going pretty well. She was on top of things, she really wanted to do well this year since it was her OWLs and not to mention, she was literally taking every elective the school had to offer. But, she was proving that it wasn’t as difficult as one might think, to keep up with the workload. Then again, as much as she hated to admit it, even to herself, Sam knew that she was a nerd and bookworm and was therefore thirsty for knowledge almost twenty-four seven. But no matter, she could be sociable too, as proven by the friendships she had formed - and surprisingly kept forming each year. She arrived to class right on time and smiled politely at the professor as she took a seat in the front, her usual spot. It was the best position to be in so as not to have any distractions.

The more time she spent at Hogwarts, the less intimidated she felt by Professor Styx. It was easier not to be when she had spent almost five years in Slytherin, with the man standing in front of the classroom as her head of house. Despite this though Defence against the Dark Arts was bound to be one of the most difficult OWLs, so Sam wasn’t going to put less effort into it. She had to put as much effort into this subject as much as her others, if not a bit more. They were learning about the Gemino Curse, thankfully Sam had done the reading so she wouldn’t have much of a problem in understanding what Styx would be talking about. She took careful note of the difference between the curse and a vastly different spell with a similar name, Geminio. She didn’t want to get confused. When they were allowed to leave the girl grabbed her things and thanked the professor politely on her way out, heading to the library to complete the assignment.

Lesson Missed: Two

The first week had gone fairly well for the second year, though she also felt quite pressured into having to do well already. She needed to, she had to do it for her mom, and biological father. Mostly for herself, but that wasn’t the most important part. She needed to be able to keep up from now on as otherwise she was undoubtedly going to struggle. She was only in the first semester of her second year and yet the Singaporean felt the pressure of needing to fit in with the rest of her yearmates. She was aware that most of them seemed to have brilliant minds and Chloe could only pray that she would turn out to be one of those too, eventually. The Ravenclaw entered the Defence classroom and chided herself for being slightly late. If only she were able to memorise the corridors and where each of her classes were off by heart, it wouldn’t be a problem. But as it turned out, her common room was at the very top and so she sometimes struggled to remember which floor below was the right one to be at, at that specific time. But this was the one class where Chloe really did not want to be on the professor’s bad side. Professor Styx was intimidating to say the least and she hadn’t even chosen a seat at the front - actually, since most seats had been filled up by the time she got here, there were only a few spaces left somewhere in the middle. She didn’t mind it that much.

The Professor began by asking questions but the girl was too nervous and not confident enough just yet to answer so she remained silent, allowing other people to reply. Maybe given time, she would answer, if her brain could just breathe a little. She really needed to learn how to just take it easy while at the same time doing enough. Chloe felt like she wasn’t doing enough of what she was supposed to be doing. Whether it was making friends, or learning, or impressing her peers and the teachers. Nothing seemed good enough right now. Her mother had always told her she was being too hard on herself, but Chloe couldn’t help it. She shifted her eyes back to the man standing in the front. She sighed quietly for the umpteenth time. This was not as nice of a subject as she had hoped it would be. Last year, it had been worse for sure, but she had hoped it would improve. But so long as this guy was her professor, it didn’t seem like it would change anytime soon. Chloe quickly scribbled on her parchment below her notes the homework assignment. When she was permitted to leave, the ravenclaw grabbed her belongings and headed to the library.
Name: Chloe Chan
House: Ravenclaw
Year: Second
Lesson Missed: Three

Now that it was the third week of the semester, Chloe felt a bit more at ease, especially after a nice student had offered his help to her when he saw how stressed she seemed with all of her books and her indecisiveness about which subject to study first. Even if she did feel slightly more comfortable about the year ahead, however, the Ravenclaw knew that in order to fit in and do well, so as not to be the person who was behind in everything, she needed to follow her study timetable quite strictly. Something that allowed her to be part of a group was Quidditch and whenever she felt overwhelmed she reminded herself that she had been chosen to be part of a team and that was a good thing, because it also meant she knew people and had connections. She just hoped they didn’t let on her the team just because of who her father was, but more to do with her skills. Chloe was the type of person to practice, work hard, and she wasn’t about to give up this opportunity to be known around the school and be successful in her aims.

She arrived to class promptly and took a seat next to her friend Cyrus, glad that she at least shared this class with him, even if she didn’t share any of the others she took this semester. Chloe didn’t talk however as she want to be on anyone’s bad side, she desperately wanted to be liked. Especially by Professor Styx, though she often wondered if he ever really liked any of his students. She did her very best to listen to the professor intently and to keep up with the man as she took notes, not really sure if she enjoyed this class but not focusing on that because it wasn’t all that important whether she liked a subject or not - if she wanted to fit in, she kept telling herself, she had to do well. In fact, she figured she had to do extremely well in this class specifically, more so than others. Or at least she had to work much harder to get the grades. Not to her surprise, homework was assigned. She wrote it down in her diary and then when they were dismissed she packed up and quickly left the classroom with Cyrus, going to the library this time to see if she could get any work done there. Or perhaps meet new people. Either option sounded good.

Kauri was... crushed. Though crushed felt like an understatement. He was... absolutely devastated. He had thought things were going so well until the end of last year, but now... his relationship with Rose was over, and it was difficult to focus on anything, difficult to feel like anything was really worth it. He was doing his best to put on his usual cheerful face but it felt hollow, smiling and chatting with people as though he wasn't aching inside. He had thought he had finally found love with someone who held the same values as him, and someone who would actually love him back, but it had all fallen apart so painfully.

Kauri was doing his best to get through it, putting his head down and focusing on his studies. He had to be a good example to the students looking up to him as Head Boy, no matter what. So it was even more intently than usual that Kauri paid attention to Professor Styx. The subject matter in this class was haunting as ever, and Kauri hated even considering that something like an Inferi existed out there in the world, but he absorbed every bit of information the best he could, stomach turning at the gruesome vision. It was a relief that this was a fairly short class, and Kauri jotted down the homework assignment, making a mental note to get it done when he was feeling a bit less queasy.

Lily was still very cautious of her defense class. It helped that it was distracting her from the ever-growing problem that her younger sister was presenting, but she still had to worry about whether or not Styx would look at her and decide she was too useless to be in the school. She took a seat next to Elliot, scooting a little closer so she could take comfort in his presence. Since the jinx, she had been sticking a little closer to him, worried that Tyler would try and take his anger out on Elliot as well. She sighed, shaking her head to clear it as she tried to focus on class. They were discussing Werewolf's today, and the subject at least piqued her interest. She wondered what it would be like to live like that, never fully in control, running the risk of hurting the people you cared for. The thought made her shudder. She wrote down the homework assignment and hurried after Elliot as they left class.

Lesson Three

Analei was still feeling great. She didn't think she had ever felt this good, but everything seemed to be going right for her, and she knew that this was the right time for her to ask her Transfiguration Professor about training to become an animagus. Analei had only told Edmund and Arvel about it, it wasn't something she wanted to announce to everyone in case she wasn't able to achieve it. She entered the classroom and took her usual seat, quickly taking out her things and getting ready to get started. As the Professor started, Analei nodded her head, knowing what the Gemino Curse was. Still, she took notes as the Professor spoke, knowing she could never learn enough and anything could be on the exam. She made the differences between the charm and the curse, knowing it could a tricky one to mess up on. As the Professor finished up, Analei quickly wrote down the homework before leaving the classroom. Professor Styx was not one of her favorite Professors.

Lesson 1

The start of the semester had been hectic, too hectic and it had left Jacob feeling a bit grumpy and a lot homesick. The teenager had always dreamed about being in the school without his mother as a professor but when he'd seen her space at the professor's table missing, it had hit him like a gut punch in the stomach. He knew where she was, of course, but she wasn't here. It had been difficult to see his gran and her new husband at the table, which he was reminded of as he walked through the doors of said husband's classroom for his defense lesson. Jacob hoped that no one in the classroom knew about it, especially not Diana or Analei or Arvel. He settled into a seat behind Emilia, giving her a small smile but remaining quiet.

Professor Styx didn't like talking anyway, so it was easy to pass that that was the reason he was remaining quiet. The professor began talking, reminding them that OWLs would be at the end of the year, a fact that Jacob found extremely alarming. He was more than halfway through his wizarding schooling at this point and it still felt like he had so very much more to learn. This class was essential for him, and as much as he didn't like Styx, he needed the information that the man had. The man then began to discuss the babbling curse. It was one Jacob had heard about, even before reading it in his textbook, and he jotted down what he remembered in addition to what the professor was saying. The lesson wasn't a long one thankfully, and Jacob was glad to leave the dungeon-like room a short time later.

Lesson 2
Jacob wasn't feeling well today. His mother would have noticed and sent him to the nurse for some pepper-up potion, but she wasn't around, and he wasn't going to get medicine on his own. The teenager looked lethargic at his desk, his head in his hand as he waited for Professor Styx to begin. The boy kept sniffling but he'd forgotten a tissue so it was all he could do. As Professor Styx began discussing the Body-Bind curse, Jacob sniffed loudly and then froze, hoping that wouldn't lead the man to call on him. Thankfully, he didn't and Jacob continued to listen as the curse was discussed. His eyes drooped slightly as he listened to his classmates talk about the curse, but he woke up when he felt his head starting to slip off his hand. Luckily, it was near the end of the lesson when that happened and he bobbed his knee up and down for the duration to keep himself up. When they were dismissed, Jacob headed off, not for the hospital wing, but to grab a snack if he could from the kitchens.

Lesson 3
Jacob listened to the Professor speak about the Gemino curse, which was interesting to him. Jacob had read the textbook the night before, which he found mostly interesting even when the professor's lectures were anything but. It was such a shame too because the curses they learned about almost always were extremely fascinating. It made Jacob almost wonder what his grandmother found interesting abotu the man, but then he would remind himself that he probably did not want to go too far down that line of thinking. He shuddered before returning his attention to what Styx was actually talking about. Gemino. Jotting down the homework as they were dismissed, Jacob quickly packed up to leave the room.

Lesson Four

Analei was beginning to feel the pressure of the exams coming up. It had become the fourth week so quickly, and though Analei felt like she was on top of her work, with the extra pressure of studying to becoming an animagus happening, she knew that she to keep her wits about her or else she'd become too overwhelmed, and she did not want that to happen. Still, it was all exciting stuff.
Analei took her usual seat in the front of the class, taking out her things to get ready to take notes from her least favorite Professor - although Professor Kingsley was also high on that list purely because of who her son was. If her son was like that, what did it say about her? As Professor Styx started, Analei began taking notes, liking the sound of the curses, and wishing she could use them on Jacob. She knew that it would hinder any efforts for her to become Head Girl if she attacked him though - perhaps he would sign up for the dueling tournament. Analei refocused on the lesson, raising her hand to answer the question, though she agreed with what Pippa had said, and it was hard to reword it. She didn't put her hand up when he called for another answer. As the lesson continued, Analei took notes before the Professor dismissed them - though she liked homework, she was also glad to get the chance to study for the exams.

Lesson Missed: 1 and 2

Willow made her way to the defence against the dark arts classroom. she was sure that she would enjoy this class more if the professor was less scary. she had heard that he had gotten married over the holidays and she wondered if maybe that would have mellowed him out a little bit. She took her swat wondering what the topics of this years course would be. curses. they were interesting but not that exciting. but beofre they even mentioned curses they had a reminder that this year was OWL year. which meant a lot of work would be required. she hoped that she would be able to sail through without too much work as the new badge on her chest said that she was a perfect and that meant she had extra jobs which meant less time for socialising and even less time for study.
the professor continued the class talking about the babbling curse. she was pretty sure some people could be put under that spell and not seem any difference the amount of talking they did. she hadn't thought until he mentioned that when under the spell it would be hard to cast finite but someone else could cast it. the interesting part about the lesson was a sneak hint of what they would be learning next year, non-verbal magic. she had seen her mum cast spells without her wand or saying anything and it often took her by surprise. It seemed like a useful skill and this year sounded boring in comparison but appeared to be necessary for being able to continue the course/
coon they were dismissed and she packed up her things and made her way out of the classroom to try and find Fleur to see how her holiday had been and to see if she was trying out for the team again.

Willow was tired, it was that time of the month and that made her long for sleep. It had been hard to describe that time of the month when she was younger but now she had an automatic excuse and the best thing was they usually timed up. she wasn't sure if it was a behaviour she had learned from her parents when she had been young or if the nine months before she had been born had instilled some things to her as she too had gone through the cycles but it was certainly nothing compared to what her parents lived through. She took a seat hoping that the lesson would be a short one. so she could go to the great hall and have some hot chips and gravy.
She listened as professor Styx seemed to almost boardly outlined the body bind curse a spell that they had been taught in previous years and one that she had used a few times in duels. thining of duels she would have to enter the tournament again this year to try and reclaim her title after embarrassingly losing to Dianne last year by messing up the shield charm. Thankfully the class wasn't a long one and they were soon dismissed. She left the room and made her way to get food.

Lesson Four
Agnes wasn't in the mood to do more work, but with the exams soon to be on the horizon she couldn't waste any time bailing on her classes, and the third year knew that if all her classes went as well as her recent Potions lesson, then she may as well just be failed there and then. She took a seat by herself and listened as the professor spoke about vampires. Agnes had thought these were just mythical creatures, but then again apparently werewolves were real so what did she know? She took out her pen and parchment and got to work, making notes on the creatures and hoping she wasn't actually going to have to find one one day. She was also quite disappointed when she heard they had homework - didn't they have enough to be doing these days? She shoved her work back in her bag and headed off to the library once they were dismissed, choosing instead to do the assignment away from the class and in her own time instead, and wondered whether Elsie would be around to help her with her homework too.

Lesson Five
The third year still wasn't sure where she and Tyler stood in their friendship. Sometimes she thought they were friends now, but since they hadn't spoken a great deal since the slug incident she couldn't be sure. The Slytherin took a seat nearby her.,, friend? Acquaintance? and got her out work. She listened to Professor Styx talking about Grindylow, which to the brunette thought they looked a bit creepy. She hoped they weren't about to break free of their tank although considering her Head of House was the one teaching them, she didn't think he would let them get hurt by any of their creatures. She walked up a little closer to the tank, peering in to get a better look, watching it move around for a short while before heading back to her desk. Agnes make some notes on what she'd seen, and drew a little picture; not that she would forget what it looked like, but she added some annotations too. Once they were dismissed she headed out the classroom and back to the common room, glad that she didn't have another essay to do.

Artemisa still couldn't believe that she and Felicita were in separate houses and would therefore be going to different classes except Potions and Flying! Granted that was a bit of a small concession, Misa wanted to be attending classes with her twin. And that meant that being in the same house. It was weird to think that they'd be doing different things really. And since they were also in different schedules, there was a significantly less time for them to be together. It was seriously like having a missing limb. It was annoying and frustrating. And today was even a class that she would not be having with Coco. Defence Against the Dark Arts. The Gryffindor didn't think that she'd be liking this class very much. The classroom was dreary just like the professor who was old and scary. She was pretty sure that he would have been teaching their parents. And that meant he was really old. Didn't help that he was strict too. So, Misa was kinda forced to take notes - which were 10% writing notes and 90% doodles really, so not much notes. She was almost relieved when classes ended. At least the homework would be no biggie. She was just going to hand it in next lesson - hopefully she actually remembers to do it though.

How old are you? I'm quite sure you taught Mummy and Daddy so I'm just curious if you're like 100 or 150 or something.

Lesson Missed: Five

As the semester progressed, Artemisa found herself gaining an interest in Defence Against the Dark Arts. Granted that it was not as big as her love for her Potions, but it was definitely starting to reach the level of interest she had for Herbology. It wasn't really because of the professor either. Okay, it might have something to do with it since Professor Styx, while scary, teaches really interesting topics she supposed. And well, he kind of did make sure that people learned. Like today with this stupid quiz. A quiz that she did not study for, not that she actually studied much during the whole course of the semester, but it was really the thought that counts right? Sighing, Misa got to work on her quiz knowing that she really didn't have much choice on the matter. Really, all she could do was guess and well, pray that she doesn't completely fail this activity.

Sam was studying more than ever now that OWLs were only two weeks away. She had her life sorted out, or she thought she did, with her strict timetable and the rare few breaks that were scheduled on it. No matter what, she knew that she just had to make her father proud. And the teachers, of course. Because of this and her constant worry about whether she could end up to be one of the top student, if not the top, she barely had any time to socialise, at least until the exams were over.

She entered the classroom and took a seat at her usual spot in the front, wondering if the professor would also let them revise early like in her previous class. So be it, she thought to herself when Styx didn’t let them study. But it was, however, a short lesson nonetheless and Sam wasn’t too bothered by it. No matter how short it seemed the girl knew that because of this, she could study more. And then she wondered if her head of house did care about his students, after all. As she thought this though she tried not to look or stare into his eyes because he was frightening enough as it was. She didn’t want to even figure out if he was in a good or a bad mood. She wrote down notes but it hardly took time as before she knew it he was assigning them homework. The girl sighed, bemused but unsurprised. She quickly packed her things and left the room, heading to the library.

Even though Chloë found Defence Against the Dark Arts an interesting topic, the lectures where a true test of her patience. Once the professor said the word Auror, however, it immediately peaked her interest. The young Gryffindor was fascinated by Aurors and always had been. She listened intently as the man continued talking and tried her best to write down everything important. Once they were dismissed Chloë left the room in order to find herself a nice and quiet spot where she could write her essay.

The Three Unforgivable Curses are the Killing Curse, the Imperius Curse and the Cruciatus Curse. The effect of the Killing Curse seems obvious: it kills someone. The Imperius Curse causes the victim to do whatever the caster of the spell wants them to do. It sort of turns you into a puppet without a will of your own. The Cruciatus Curse tortures the victim by inflicting terrible pain. Not only do these cursus have effects on their victims, but they can also corrupt people who use the curses a lot.

Pippa made her way into the Defense class, ready to hopefully learn at least one knew spell before she was thrust into the manic studying for Owl's. The dark haired girl was lucky, and as professor Styx spoke she noted every word, hopeful that she would never really experience the effects of such a horrible curse. On the flip side of the coin though, Pippa thought it would be useful if she ever found herself in possession of something she didn't want stolen. The puff finished her notes, this time leaving the class before writing an optional assignment. After all, she had a large amount of studying to do.

Lesson Three

Elizabeth had made her way to Defense Against the Dark Arts, slipping into the classroom just before professor Styx began to speak. She found a spot in the back of the class and pulled out her note-taking supplies. Busy trying to get out her supplies, Elizabeth was too slow to raise her hand and Bear ended up answering the question about curses instead. She wondered how terrifying it would be to see one of the curses performed in real life. Elizabeth had considered being an Auror, but didn’t like the idea of using the curses even if it was against dark wizards.

Since the class was dismissed early, Elizabeth took time to write the assignment down from the board. She made note of the pages from her book and packed up her things. Not a fan of writing essays, she lugged her stuff to the Gryffindor common room to complete the assignment.

Unforgivable Curses

There are three curses that are determined unforgivable by wizarding society and illegal in the ministry eyes. The three curses are Imperious, Cruciatus, and killing curse. The Imperious Curse causes the victim to do the bidding of the caster. It is performed by casting the spell ‘Imperio’. The Cruciatus Curse is cast with the spell ‘Crucio’ and causes excruciating pain to the victim. The final curse is the Killing curse and it kills the victim. The spell ‘Avada Kedavra’ is used to perform this dreadful curse. The use of any of these curses unless you are an Auror is forbidden and will land you in Azkaban.

Lesson Four

Elizabeth had finished her essay the same day it was assigned that she almost forgot she had already done it. When she got to class she almost panicked before she found the assignment to turn in. She sat down in her usual seat and took out her note-taking supplies. As everybody got settled, Professor Styx began to speak. Elizabeth was excited to hear they wouldn’t be taking notes and immediately began to put her stuff away. She had read about Stupefy and Protego, but she hadn’t actually bothered to try them. Elizabeth was excited for the chance to do the spell in class today and looked towards her brother. She already knew they would be competing against each other.

Going to the front of the room, Elizabeth stood across from her twin brother, Harper. She pointed her wand his direction. “Stupefy” The red spell shot from her wand, but was deflected by her twin's perfect use of the blocking spell. Elizabeth prepared herself as she waited for her brother to attempt the spell on her. “Protego!” She shouted as a light blue shield deflected Harper’s stunning spell. Elizabeth smiled contently. The two went back and forth, successfully blocking each other’s spells.

Holding her wand out in front of her, Elizabeth waited for her brother to cast the stunning charm. “Protego!” She shouted, but it was too late. Her brother spell hit her and caused her to tumble to the ground stunned. The professor revived her and she stood up furious at her brother who seemed to just smirk in her direction. She pointed her wand at him with a scowl. “Stupefy, Stupefy, Stupefy.” Elizabeth cast in a hurl towards Harper who calmly deflected each spell. The class was coming to an end and she grabbed her things in a huff leaving the classroom. She fully intended on getting her brother back.

Lesson Five

Elizabeth hadn’t really forgiven her twin since the last Defense Against the Dark Arts lesson and she intended on avoiding him his class period too. She entered the class to find the desks lined up with parchment. Ugh is that a quiz? Her eyes involuntarily rolled in irritation. Elizabeth took a seat at a desk far away from her brother and focused on the quiz. When she was finished she turned in the quiz and left the classroom.

Lesson 1:
It was the beginning of the final year, in the first semester. It was just that much closer to graduation, which Viktor was anxious for. He could not wait to leave this place, so that he could begin his life, elsewhere. With his grades, he could probably do whatever he wanted. He thought about the Ministry, since it was solid work, but had no idea what department. Somewhere he would thrive. He had no electives, so he would have to work around that. Viktor could also just go into the family business. The possibilities were limitless. Viktor walked into the classroom, and found his seat near the back as per usual. He hoped that this year would go by quickly. After all, he had nothing else to really do. Not until the holiday and weekend breaks to Brightstone.

Soon the professor walked in, and then greeted the students. They all knew how the year was going to be, so they did not need a reminder of it. Viktor was glad that Professor Styx did not bring them up at all. The topic for the year was Advanced Defence Work Theory. The topics would include several of the darkest creatures that roamed the earth. He mused over the fact that his great-grandfather should be one of them. They would also be learning wandless magic. That would take a lot from them, he was sure. He just hoped that he would be one of those that could get it done and soon. He then heard that the class was dismissed, which was not like the professor to have done so. Shrugging, he packed up his things and he left the classroom. He had quite a bit of studying to do anyway.

Lesson 2:

The weeks seemed to just crawl by, even though Viktor Styx was still sending letters to Wynter on occasion, and had been unable to avoid people successfully lately. Viktor had no idea how that kept happening. He walked along the corridor, looking down to see if his badge was still intact, which it was. Prefect status or not, he just wanted to be left alone. Without Wynter there to do the talking for him, he just had to stare and endure people not being smart enough to take the hint that Viktor just wanted some peace and quiet. He eventually arrived to the classroom, and took a seat in the same seat as before. He clasped his hands together and waited.

The lesson was going to be over lethifolds and dementors. Dementors, Viktor knew a fair bit about, but not so much on lethifolds. He got out his ink, quill and a sheet of parchment to take down some information. First, it was a lethifold, which was a creature that looked like a cloak and ate humans. Now that was interesting. The next creature was the dementor, which in a sense ate humans, but their souls instead. Both of the creatures could be repelled by the patronus charm. They would be learning that charm when they were in their Charms class. He was sure no one would be attacked by either creature. Viktor heard what they were told, before being dismissed. He packed up and left.

Lesson

Still, having a girlfriend to check on from time to time was still odd for the Ravenclaw prefect. Viktor actually looked forward to the holidays more and more, and Brightstone breaks because that was the only time he could see Wynter. Not having her around made him feel somewhat lonely. Though he would never admit to that. If there was a way to sneak her in, he would have done so already. He had not seen any hidden passages that led outside of the castle yet. There were quite a few that led to other areas of the castle though. Not that Viktor did a lot of exploring. He mostly overheard it from the younger students. Viktor sighed as he took his seat in the classroom after shortly arriving. He hoped this would be quick.

Once the class began, Viktor could see that they were going over something that did bring his interests to life. Inferi, which were corpses controlled by the darkest of magics. He hoped to master that one day, and end up having a whole army of Inferi and end up controlling a portion of the wizarding world. Well, that was his dream, but for now he had to simply pass the class which was hard enough with the NEWTs breathing down the seventh years' necks. The inferi could not think for themselves, and were basically slaves to the people that controlled them. Viktor sighed and he listened to the fact that they were dismissed. The lesson itself was short, so he was amazed at that. They could end up going to the library, but he would do that later. For now, he had other things to take care of.

Lesson 4:

With it being half way through the semester, Viktor Styx was feeling the pressure of the upcoming NEWTs. While they seemed so far away, they also feel like they would be on the seventh years within the next few weeks. The Ravenclaw hated feeling pressured, but at least he had his letters that was helping him, and no more of his legilimency classes. That alone took a lot of pressure off of his back. He had that extra time to just study and get ahead. Or rather, ensure that he does not get behind. During this level, he could not afford such a disaster. Viktor walked into the classroom and took his seat, waiting for the class to begin.

Professor Styx informed them that they were going to be performing wandless magic today, and Viktor was looking forward to it. Wandless magic was apparently worse on their minds until they could master it. Viktor stood up and walked over to stand in a line on the side of the room that Professor Styx told them to. He was sure that they were going to be doing something interesting, or seeing it. Professor Styx demonstrated his own magic, which was impressive. He was even impressed that the professor could do so without a hand gesture. They were going to be using the summoning spell. When it was good enough for him to try it, he saw the scroll coming toward him, and he tried it, but the spell did not even move. He tried it verbally, and it still did not move. Right before dismissal, he managed to get it over to him. He had a headache before leaving the classroom when they were dismissed.

Lesson 5:

The fateful event of Yule Ball was coming up, which Viktor did not look forward to. The fact that there were so many people there deterred him greatly. Now that Wynter was not here, he would not have to be forced to go. That was a relief since he did not appreciate dancing anyway. It wasn’t that he was terrible at it, but his movements were too stiff to really impress anyone. Plus, he didn’t know how to move to the music when all he wanted to do was silence it the whole time. Any sort of dance as like that. Viktor shook his head of these thoughts as he walked into the classroom, took his seat, and waited for the professor to speak. Professor Styx informed the classroom and informed them that they were going to be having a quiz over what they had learned, and for revision. He got started on the quiz. Once he finished, he turned it in to Professor Styx. He left as soon as they were dismissed.

Lesson One:
Elia Dragonova could not believe that she was back in Hogwarts New Zealand for what felt like many years since she and her twin left to go to the Hogwarts in Scotland. Everything was perfect when her boyfriend of two years followed her. Baltair knew how to make the Slytherin smile, even though he was rather mean. But not to her, so that made her feel special. The Slytherin made her way from the dungeons and up the stairs to her class. She wore her hair in a tight ponytail so that she could have it away from her eyes. She needed to be able to work hard to become a Hit Wizard, which was her dream job. At least her family supported it. Unlike her mom and dad, she inherited no such cooking or Quidditch talents from them. Elia walked into the classroom and took a seat, waiting patiently for the lesson to begin.

Professor Styx did not hesitate to start the class up and thankfully did not go over how important this year was and so on. The OWL speech was getting old. Elia calmly tapped her fingers against her desk and she listened to him go over the Babble curse, something that they all knew what they were. However there seemed to be another motive to this. They were just going over the fundamentals of the curses, and not just practicing them. She was thankful for this because she really did not want to hear the entire class babbling and they would have no hope to get the curse off of them. Then they were released without homework. She smiled slightly before packing her things and leaving the classroom.

Lesson Two:
The second week into the semester, and Elia did not want to do the OWLs. She was reminded of them every time she opened her books to study. The Slytherin felt that she could never get out of school, but all she had to do was remind herself that she only had two more years, and then she could do what she wanted. Elia tied her hair back so that it was resting on her shoulder, and left the Slytherin house. She had to make it to class in time. After all, this semester had some of her favorite classes like Potions. The Slytherin made her way into the classroom, found her seat, and sighed. She was so ready to get this over with.

Today they were reviewing the Body-Bind Curse, and they all knew what it was. However they were not going to be bothering with going over the incantation. However they were asked a question, to see why it was a curse and not a jinx. Of course she was not taking notes over a curse that she had already knew about, but she did not know how the incantation itself came to be. She thought that today seemed a little short, but at least she learned something new today. Once that was finished, they were free to leave the classroom without any homework. Well that was a blessing. The doors opened, and she packed her things as she went on her way out of the classroom. For OWL work, this was seemingly easy. That was splendid, she hoped the rest of the lessons were as simple.

Lesson Three:
In for the long haul, the Slytherin fifth year got ready in her dorm, but she could not find her hair tie to tie her hair up. This was a shame since she didn’t want to wear it down while she was in class. Sighing, she brushed her hair real quick, and shoved it behind her head. She smiled a little at the mirror, before grabbing her things and leaving the dorms. She rushed to the class because she had spent most of her morning looking for her vanishing hair tie. She went through those many times, so it was no telling where Elia managed to lose it. She walked into the classroom, and sat down. She brushed her hair behind her ears, wanting to hide behind her hair already.

The professor did not even look as much in a bad mood as before which was a plus. And then they were told that they were going to be learning the Gemino Curse, which to Elia sounded extremely interesting. This curse did not really cause harm to a person or rather it cannot be cast on a person. Then what would they use it for? Then it was revealed, it was used to multiply an object once it was touched, and all copies were useless. Elia started to write down some notes as the chalk on the board started to move and write what the professor was saying. It was useful in Gringotts probably to protect items, and she thought of how it could end up crushing someone eventually in a closed room. It did sound an awful lot like Geminio which causes the target to duplicate but it isn't a contained. It seemed very, very similar to the Gemino Curse which was good because she would be able to remember it easier. Thankfully they were soon dismissed. Elia thought that it was an interesting lecture and she would enjoy it much more if she could remember it all. She got her things and walked from the class, free for the day.

Lesson Four:
It was getting closer and closer to the holidays, and Elia Dragonova could hardly stand it. After several letters to her sister, she managed to convince her not to say or do anything bad to Baltair for when he would visit her. Assuming that his parents would allow him, because it wasn’t like she had asked him yet anyway. The Slytherin girl tied her hair up with a new tie that she got from her mom. Her mom always came through when needed, and she had ten now. Although, she had twelve but two were already missing. Elia left her dorms, grabbed a bagel from the kitchen, and headed to her next class. She needed the carbs to help her stay awake.

They were recollecting the Jelly Legs Jinx from their second year, and then she had to think of the two curses that Professor Styx told them. The effects caused by the spells were rather obvious, but she wondered why they would have to think of the jinx that they learned so long ago. Professor Styx's way of thinking amazed her because of how laid back he seemed about the whole ordeal. He did not pick sides. Without even a warning, they were dismissed after being told that all they had to do was study. She packed her things and left the classroom for the day.

Lesson Five:
Elia Dragonova felt like a basket of nerves, since she had became all too aware of the exams coming. While she was still mere weeks away, it still felt like it would be within the next few days. Elia had to bust her butt with studying, even though she had never been good at it. The Slytherin needed some techniques, but so far, none of them really stuck to her. Elia sighed as she tied her hair into a braid and left for the classroom. After all, she need not be late for any reason. She did not want to look bad since this was her first year back, after several being away. Elia sat in her seat and waited for the lesson to begin.

The topic that they were going over was the Flagrante Curse. She had heard of the curse, but did not know about it or what it did. Just that the name. Getting out parchment, ink and a quill, she started to take down some notes on what the curse was, and how useful it was such as it could be used on valuable objects not just in Gringotts. With how secure Gringotts was, it would be interesting to have it in any other home, and no simple Finite would get rid of it. Elia finished her notes, and then they were dismissed from the classroom. Elia packed her things into her messenger bag before she slung it over her shoulder. She gave Professor Styx one more glance before she left the classroom in a hurry. They were supposed to have a short lesson, and at least the professor had kept his word.

Lesson Three
Alec still didn't know what to expect from this professor. He seemed a bit creepy to say the least but at least he didn't waste their time with boring things either. She took a seat in the class and made some notes about the curses, not that she knew many. One of the other girls seemed to know though as she listened as Bear gave the answers to all of them. How did she know so much? Didn't everyone only just find out they were a witch? In which case she must have done a lot of reading. Obviously Lysander had parents that could help him so he was a bit of an odd one out, and Alec didn't really understand how she didn't know. Once the class was over she packed up her things and left the room, grateful for another fun class, and waited to see what would happen next week and whether they'd actually be able to practise any of these spells for real.

Lesson Four
Alec was looking forward to this class because like charms, she was able to do some magic with her wand rather than just writing an essay or something similarly boring. She took her usual seat in the lesson and listened as the professor told them what they were going to be doing for the afternoon, and was excited when they got to partner up with someone. Obviously she knew exactly who was going to be her partner and she joined Lysander, hoping that he didn't ind. Who was she kidding? Of course he didn't! She practised the two spells, taking it in turns to cast the charm and then protect herself, and wondered why first years couldn't join the duelling competition. If the students were as good as her then they'd have no problem at all. At the end of the lesson she packed up her things and left the room, glad to have a few more spells under her belt.

Lesson Five
Alec liked the practical lessons best, so when she entered the room to find that there were a number of questions waiting for them she was somewhat disappointed. How was she meant to practise her magic and make sure she could actually do the spells if the only thing they did was read? Besides, they could read any time! She slumped into a chair near to her friend and began to grunpily go through the questions the best she could, although a couple of them had multiple answers because she wasn't sure. Once she thought she was done, she handed in her quiz to the professor and hoped he wouldn't actually mark it like a real exam, and headed out to her dormitory.

Kauri was slowly starting to pull himself together after the breakup. He needed to, really. Life wasn't going to stop moving just because he was miserable. He had patrols and classes and responsibilities all over the school that needed taking care of. It was a substantial effort though, getting back to something that felt normal. He was trying to distract himself by planning the Brotherhood's next meeting, hoping that throwing himself into work to help his classmates would keep him feeling some kind of normal, and so far it was almost working.

Kauri was surprised by how much he had been.... enjoying Defense Against the Dark Arts. He hadn't loved the lessons about the terrifying creatures earlier in the semester, but he could do magic without even using his wand now! That was amazing! Kauri hoped they would be doing more work on wandless casting, and did his best to hide his disappointment when instead, Professor Styx handed out a quiz. The revision would probably be good for him, but he had hoped to learn more about wandless casting today. Kauri would have to be satisfied with his own practice outside of class. Putting his head down, he focused on the quiz, and by the time he handed it in, Kauri was satisfied he had answered all the questions correctly.

Lesson 2

Adorah always tried to arrive early for Defense Against the Dark Arts so she wouldn't be surprised. She couldn't imagine ever being late to class. She entered the room, taking a seat near the back as she placed her belongings on the desk, pulling out her quill, ink, and parchment. Even though there was a lot of practical magic in this subject, Adorah always tried to take notes even if she couldn't do so until the end of class. She fiddled with her quill trying not to make eye contact with Professor Styx. Then, he spoke, asking the class a question. Adorah thought she knew the answer, but she didn't want to risk embarrassing herself in front of him. Who knows what would happen? Prank-like Jinxes seemed to be something innocent that could get out of hand very quickly. She was a little relieved but not surprised that Professor Styx was only having them write an essay on the subject of the knee-reversal jinx which sounded pretty painful. She was sure it must have been a teenager or a childish adult who originally created the jinx. Who else would think of such an absurd prank? She made sure to write down her homework and headed back to her dorm at the end of class.

Lesson 3

Adorah took a seat and watched the other students entering around her. She was exhausted today after pulling an all-nighter studying for her classes. She was really trying to excel this semester, but it usually made things difficult when she had more homework than she could manage in her awake hours. She smacked her cheeks a little, trying to wake herself up as Professor Styx began talking about the Jelly-legs jinx. She had seen other students use that one on each other, and it definitely looked embarrassing. However, that thought drifted off as Professor Styx spoke of non-verbal magic. Adorah couldn't wait for the day when they would try to accomplish spells without voicing them. It probably would help them significantly in the long run. She wondered if it would always work or if you had to practice with each individual incantation. Before she could process her tired thoughts, she was instructed to find a partner to practice defensive spells with. She slid out of her seat and met a fellow Ravenclaw as they began exchanging spells. She was stupified two times, mostly due to a lack of concentration from tiredness. She vowed to never pull an all-nighter before this class again, as having Professor Styx come to wake you from being stupified was embarrassing enough. After she had successfully blocked her opponent three times and stunned him once, she was dismissed from class.

Lesson 4

Adorah took a seat for her Defense Against the Darks Art lesson, fully rested. She tried not to appear too chipper, but she also was excited to feel more prepared for today's lesson. She pulled out her notes to write about the three jinxes, hoping to never have them used on her. Adorah was sure the stinging jinx would make her sensitive skin reactively negatively, and it was not something she wanted to risk experiencing. She wondered how exactly the Tripping Jinx worked. Did it actually trip someone using a magical force, or did it stop their feet as their momentum was going forward? She made a note to look up more about each jinx after class so she would be prepared for exams. At the end of class, she gathered her things and headed to the library to study.

Lesson 5

Adorah walked into class surprised that there was a piece of parchment on their desk. She felt confident in the fact that they were having a quiz, but she always wanted to be over-prepared. In this case, she wasn't. She filled out the quiz, hoping she was wording everything to the best of her ability. At the end of class, she felt pretty confident she had gotten mostly everything right. Definitions were never her strong suit, and she hoped this would turn out to be a good grade for her.

Lesson Three
Since being accepted in the Hogwarts Monthly, Juno was constantly on the look out for the angle she could take on her articles to make them interesting. She still didn't know what that was going to be but she knew she had to stand out if she was going to be up again the others on the team. Besides, Juno was a first year and that meant people probably didn't expect much from her, and well, she just wanted to prove them wrong. For now though she had to focus on her lessons, and she headed sleepily off to her next class.

Juno had heard of the dark curses before, but only when her family didn't think she could hear them talking. Even one of them, she'd heard of it but she never realised it was a curse until she heard one of the Gryffindors repeat it in the class. She made some notes about what kind of spells they were, feeling like they could definitely be something that popped up in an exam, Juno had heard of these before so she could only imagine how someone who didn't know they existed would have handled it and she nervously glanced to Apollo. Once they were allowed to leave she packed up her things and left the room.

Lesson Four
If anyone had told Juno that one day she'd be taking classes at a magical school, she would never have imagined she'd be where she was now. Wasn't this the ideal life? To enjoy your time being special when everyone else in the world was just ordinary? So why wasn't she happy, when she had everything she could possibly need around her and a lot of new friends and opportunities. The blonde still didn't really feel like herself in the school though and she didn't know what she could do to fix it.

Juno enjoyed Defence Against the Dark Arts because she actually got to do something. She partnered up with Apollo and they quickly got to work practising their spells together. It was also one of the only classes that she shared with the Gryffindors. It was just a shame the same couldn't have been said for Astronomy. As they fired the spells between one another, practising offensive and defensive, Juno wondered if she'd be any good in a real fight or something. Probably not because she'd get distracted by something, but she liked to think she knew the spells. Once they have finished she packed away and her things and headed out the room with her friend.

Lesson Five
With the semester almost at an end, the blonde wasn't sure how she would feel when everything changed again. She had just gotten into the swing of things, and soon they'd be put to the test and be forced to do some exams when all Juno really wanted to do was sit up in the towers all day and look at the stars. In a blue robe. She still hadn't convinced anyone yet that she deserved to move houses, but she wasn't giving up yet, and she refused to accept herself as a Slytherin. It wasn't her and it never would be.

Juno was waiting for her friend before class, and met up with him just in time so that they could go in together. Taking a seat near the back of the room, the blonde was pleased to hear that they'd be doing a pre exam quiz. She was good at those. Her memory was just above average which meant that she didn't really struggle at exams or quizzes too much, touch wood. The welsh student got to work immediately, answering all the easy questions first before going back to the others. The lesson went very fast too because of how hard she was concentrating, but once they had finished she handed in her work to the professor and left the room.

Lesson Two:
Ro sat in the back of the class, he didn't like to stand out too much if he could avoid it. Certainly he liked to get his work done and do what he was told, but mostly he liked to not stand out in the crowd too much, it was more of a hassle than he was strictly comfortable with if he was honest. Still, Professor Styx wasn't a bad teacher and he learned a lot from him, he was probably better than the one they had back at Hogwarts Scotland anyway, that guy was a bit of a freak if Ro was honest. Not that he actually minded all that much. He never seemed to draw the guys eyes, so he was comfortable sitting in the back of the class and doing his own thing. It helped that Defence Against the Dark Arts, for the most part, was the subject he found himself most interested in studying about, beyond the general allowance from the school, it was fascinating what happened as he was reading and he learned things he didn't necessarily think they would be taught in the school. It was a much more fulfilled effort on his part whatever the case. Professor Styx took the floor and explained they would be learning more about the Body-Bind curse. It was a spell they'd learned already and though Ro wasn't exactly what one would call a master (he was far more academic than physical) he could do it decently, or at least he thought so. Ro wasn't an avid participator though, so when the question came up, he didn't made any moves to answer it, listening to the two chosen students and making notes of his own for later. It was always interesting to hear how others perceived this stuff, since it was all so fascinating to the Hufflepuff. When the class came to an end, Ro leisurely took the time to clean up his desk before nodding to himself and heading out of the room. He had a couple of more books he wanted to explore.
Lesson Three:
Defence Against the Dark Arts was the first lesson on a Friday for Ro and that meant he usually had time to prepare before he had to attend. In this instance, he was unintentionally early to the class and shrugged, sitting in the back and pulling his textbook out. Usually he timed this kind of thing really well, but he supposed he could forget to actually count sometimes if he wasn't careful, not that he thought there would be much of a problem, since it seemed that the Professor was content to just ignore him, he just kept up his pacing, so Ro did his best to not disturb the man. When the class eventually did begin, Ro put his book down and paid attention as Professor Styx mentioned they would be learning about the Gemino Curse, which, coincidentally, Ro had just been reading about. From what he understood, it differed to the charm in one key point, the Charm, could be used to make an exact duplicate that was perfect in its complete imperfections except for the inability to duplicate any magical effects. The Gemino curse was horrific in nature and would not stop duplication when touched, meaning thousands of little duplications would happen making the space of the duplication unsafe. It was fascinating how a curse like that could be used and he vaguely remembered reading about a mention of it in some of his Harry Potter books, but couldn't quite put his finger on where the mention would be from. Shrugging internally, Ro nodded along with the class as Professor Styx talked about the curse, he would like to see it performed one day, but knew it would need to be done so under special conditions and was not really in the mood to try and replicate those conditions right now. As soon as the class ended, Ro got up to leave.
Lesson Four:
The difference between jinxes and curses was a subject that Ro had studied extensively back in Scotland, he thought it was very important to be able to know the difference or all manner of things could easily go wrong. For one, one couldn't be expected to be able to suddenly be able to reverse the effects of a jinx if he didn't understand it and he rather liked the ides of being able to use an reverse a spell as needed, since he was really interested in the workings of the curse and the jinxes and what could happen. He also knew that given the way this sort of thing general worked out, he needed to make sure he wasn't being too obvious in his focus. The Professor spoke more about the difference between the two as the lesson picked up, and Ro made detailed notes in the margins of his books to make sure he didn't miss anything. He didn't want to risk missing something only to have to worry about trying to figure it out later, give his tendency to often forget little details. As the lesson came to an end, Ro quickly stood up and exited the class.
Lesson Five:
Ro walked into the class, already reading ahead on todays lesson. The Flagrante curse was one he'd come across earlier in the year when he was reading up on certain cursed items and had found he was interested in the uses it could have, even outside of using it in a capacity for harm. He wasn't sure yet, but he was positive with time and research, he could find uses for all kinds of spells, if only to serve to make sure he could have all of it secured under his own thumb. Since he'd began his readings it had become increasingly obvious to him that not teaching these sort of things in the school was the smart choice, he was smart and practical, so he knew not to be stupid enough to walk around letting people know he had this information and he was smart enough not to try and use these spells or information, but he knew there would be some people, particularly dumb people, that wouldn't think of those kinds of consequences and just go for it and that was the dangerous part. He sighed and waited for the lessons to end, taking detailed notes as he did so. When the class did end, Ro nodded to Professor Styx and headed out the door.

Ana was happy so far with how the semester was going. She managed to do all of her assignments so far on time and without much stress, which was really helping her feel better with the exams at the end of the school year. All of the content was pretty straight forward and all Ana had to do was remember a few things and practice some things so she could be fully confident with it all.

The Slytherin entered the Defence Against The Dark Arts classroom for her fifth lesson and took her usual seat in the room. The professor told them the lecture would be short and Anastasie couldn't help but be thankful for this. She really did appreciate the time the professor was giving them to study, because it meant even though he didn't show it, he really did care about how well his students went. The Slytherin listened as he spoke about the Flagrante Curse and smirked. She figured it would be quite useful to use to get her siblings to stop touching her belongings, especially her younger ones, and so made sure to write some notes down about it. She was disappointed that they weren't actually going to practice it but was thankful for the information nonetheless. When the lesson ended, the teen packed everything away before heading to her next class.
