Skylar walked into her second Herbology lesson of the semester, excited to be finally working with a magical plant. Last year they'd worked with only muggle plants, although they did use magic a few times to help themselves a bit. She'd also thankfully remembered to bring earmuffs, since they'd be working with Mandrakes this semester, and she was really excited about it, although a bit nervous.

She found an empty space next to one of the workstations set up around the classroom, and began to listen, curious as to what the first thing they'd be doing would be. She hoped it'd be fun, or at the very least not something boring like just preparing soil. After Professor Carter finished speaking, she let out a nervous breath that she hadn't even realised she'd been holding, and began to do the task in front of her. She put her earmuffs firmly over her ears, as well as put her dragonhide gloves and workrobe on, and watched as the Professor explained the next steps. They were to simply transfer the Mandrake from a smaller pot to a larger one. That was it.

As he finished his demonstration, Skylar began the task, although somewhat nervously. She grabbed the leaves of her Mandrake, and tugged upwards, revealing the Mandrake to be a screaming, and ugly-looking thing which resembled a newborn baby more than a plant. But she was grateful to at least have earmuffs on to shield her from what she was sure were unbearably loud and annoying screams. She quickly stuffed it into the larger pot and used her free hand to put some more soil over the top of it, and only when she was sure it was finally secure beneath all the soil, did she let out a breath she hadn't even realised she'd been holding. All that was left was to water the Mandrake and clean up the area, so she did that quickly, not even realising how much dirt she'd spilt everywhere in the process. And when it was over, she put away the rest of her things and left the classroom, keen to finally take her earmuffs off.

Lesson One:
Today we repotted Mandrakes, which was actually a pretty quick process. All we had to do was yank them out of their old pot and put them into a new one and then cover them in soil and water them. My Mandrake doesn't seem as bad as the others, but it screams A LOT.

Lesson Missed: Lesson 3

After last week's lesson, Skylar was really excited to come back to Herbology. It was actually pretty fun learning to care for a Mandrake, which was funny because she was usually an awful gardener, but she supposed her years of looking after all sorts of animals meant she would end up looking after her Mandrake well too. She hoped.

This lesson turned out to be much more boring than the last one, since all they had to do was feed and water their Mandrake. Skylar sighed as she heard her Professor give them the instructions, but the fact that they would soon progress to the Childhood stage made her excited for what was to come. But in the meantime she had to focus on not killing it, so she dutifully collected some water and watered her Mandrake, noting that it was actually looking a little dehydrated because of the sagging leaves, and then went over to the barrels filled with food pellets. She carefully measured out a quarter of the usual amount, and when she came back, she gently pushed the pellets into the soil, wondering how the Mandrake would reach them since the soil was packed so tightly around it. But she guessed it must work somehow, otherwise she didn't see why Professor Carter would give them these instructions.

It only took a short while, and then she was done with it, so she packed up and just as she was leaving, she heard Professor Carter tell them to make another diary entry. She sighed, especially after she heard they had to name the Mandrakes, but was at least grateful that that was all, since she knew some of her Professors would have easily made them write a whole essay on it.

Lesson 2
Today we looked after our Mandrakes again, and I've decided to name mine Phyllis. I don't know why I did, but it just seemed to suit him, even though I've only really seen him for a few seconds when I transported him from one pot to another. He's now in the toddler stage, so all I had to do today was push pellets of food into the soil for him and water him.

Lesson Two

Brooke hadn’t gotten a chance to ask her parents for a newer pair of earmuffs, so she had disdainfully brought her school pair with her for herbology today. As much as she didn’t like them, she was glad to have listened to Professor Carters warnings when he announced they’d be repotting a mandrake today. She wasn’t thrilled they had to look after a mandrake all semester rather than working on other plants, but maybe Brooke would learn something interesting.

She took a few quick notes on mandrake care before donning her protective gear and listening to Professor Carter’s instructions on how to repot. Once it was their turn, Brooke spent a few moments triple checking her earmuffs where on properly, not wanting to embarrass herself by fainting in class, before grasping her mandrake and pulling it from the soil. It was an ugly thing, and Brooke watched in fascination as it opened its mouth in a scream she couldn’t hear. Eager to get it down with, Brooke quickly moved over to the new pot, nestling the mandrake in the dirt before piling more on top until just the leaves were poking out. Relieved to be finished, Brooke cleaned herself up before working on her journal until the lesson was over.

Week One
Today, we repotted our mandrake seedlings. It is important to follow proper safety guidelines when doing so, as, despite not being deadly yet, a young mandrakes’ cry is still harmful and may cause you to faint if heard.

Mandrakes require damp soil, and good balance of shade and sunlight, and feeding, which I will keep a schedule of below for the duration of my mandrake’s care.

Lesson Three

Brooke wasn’t particularly looking forward to looking after a mandrake all semester. She wasn’t the most fond of the work they’d done in herbology, it requiring a lot more work with your hands than a book could always prep you for, and it didn’t help that the mandrakes themselves were just all round unpleasant. Still, she was here to learn, so for her own sake, Brooke was going to power through it.

She listened and Professor Carter went over the mandrake’s life stages, particularly the toddler stage they were in right now. She took notes on the food and water amounts advised before following her classmates over to the food and water so she could get started on feeding hers and working on her journal. Brooke wasn’t sure what on earth to name the thing, it was rather ugly, but maybe if she gave it a more dignified name, she’d warm up to it. Eventually, Brooke settled on the name Penelope, writing it down in her journal in looping letters before packing up for the day.

Week 2

After repotting last week, the mandrake has reached the ‘toddler’ stage of its development. I have decided to name my mandrake Penelope for the duration of my care for it.
To survive, Penelope will require damp soil, sunlight, and food.
Today, I watered Penelope and gave her a fourth of a scoop of food pellets. I will need to return later after class to feed her her second scoop as well. It’s important to poke the pellets into the soil to ensure Penelope can easily reach it.

Lesson One

After months of pretending that she wasn't a witch around her muggle caregivers, Freya was a little uncertain to be back in classes and learning more magic. Herbology caused her the least amount of anxiety due to the lack of wand waving and memorisation of spells. Magical plants were still plants and Freya wasn't going to be worried over something as silly as a daisy. Even if they were weird and screamed at her, like mandrakes, Freya would simply have to scream back and show them who was in charge. She took her seat in class and listened as the professor spoke about St. Mungo's. Freya hadn't given wizarding medicine too much thought, but found it interesting how closely it was linked to Herbology. Thinking about magical maladies that needed equally magical plants to heal was a path she didn't want to go down, so Freya stamped it down and tried to concentrate on the lecture. She saw how it was - the hospital using free child labour to get their medicinal plants. Freya didn't really mind at all, and smiled at her personal joke. She wrinkled her nose at the mention of an assignment, but took a note it it anyway before she left class. She didn't know anything more about St. Mungo's than what Professor Carter had just said, but Freya was well-acquainted with the library by now and would just have to look it up before anyone questioned her.

*
Lesson Two

Freya didn't like to admit it, but Herbology wasn't so bad for a class where she had to sit and listen to a professor drone on and on about plants. She definitely didn't keep a diary on the plants they'd been learning about hidden under her mattress, because that would imply that she was actually interested in the material. She blinked rapidly in shock as the Bubotuber came into view. If the magical world kept coming up with weirder things to show her even into her fourth year, Freya was seriously going to have to write off her education as a bad dream and disappear into the aether until things made sense. She didn't want to thought - she actually quite liked the strangeness of the vegetation she was meeting. Freya scribbled down some notes as the professor spoke, and wondered what properties the slug-like plant could possibly have.

*
Lesson Three

With classes back in full swing, Freya was finally feeling like she'd gotten back into a routine and didn't have to constantly wonder how things were doing back home in the muggle world. She blew an errant strand of hair out of her face and grimaced as the professor told them what was happening for the lesson. Hadn't she come back to Hogwarts to escape shovelling horse droppings to fertilize the garden? With her gloves and goggles securely in place, Freya felt a little like a mad scientist preparing for a dangerous experiment as she carefully started to place the fertilizer around her bubotuber. It was about as bad as she'd expected, but oddly relaxing and Freya was able to zone out as long as she was able to ignore the smell. She absolutely did not like the idea of having to squeeze pus out of the plants and hoped she'd just heard the professor wrong. Freya packed up her stuff at the end of the lesson and left the greenhouse, rubbing at her arms to remove imaginary dirt that might still linger on her skin.

As Louis entered the Herbology greenhouse he took his usual seat within the room and reverted his attention to the front. No pallets had been set up today so it was a wonder what they were going to do. The professor began lecturing them briefly, announcing that they were going to be learning about pumpkins before giving them a few dot points on the board for them to copy down. Louis did exactly that, keeping it in the same format too so he could look back on it later and know what it was and easily read it. The professor then told them to follow him outside, and Louis couldn't be more excited at the prospect of growing pumpkins. It seemed like such a fun exercise. When instructed, Louis inserted his seed into the ground just as the professor had done. Then they were told to cast a spell on it to make it grow faster. It took a few attempts but Louis was sure he had eventually done it. Now all they had to do was wait, and Louis couldn't help but think that was the most fun part. When dismissed, Louis was happy to leave the class and head to his next class, excited for the next lesson when he could hopefully see its progress.

Rune entered the Herbology Greenhouse. He was really starting to like this class, it was very laid back, which probably had a lot to do with the Professor who was teaching it. Whatever the reason, Rune was excited as he took his seat in the Greenhouse, wondering what they would be doing today. He hoped it would be a bit of gardening. To be honest, he missed it terribly. At home that was a way he could always relate and spend time with his mother. All good memories.

Today the Professor began the lesson with some notes. Rune dug through his backpack to find his writing items before jotting down the notes about pumpkins. Rune honestly did not know much about pumpkins except he always carved one on Halloween and they made a delicious pie.

Notes said:
* The Pumpkin is believed to have originated in North America, where the Native Americans dried strips of Pumpkin and wove them into mats.
* The original name for the pumpkin was Pepon, which was Greek for large melon.
* The Pumpkin is widely known for being served at feasts as Pumpkin Pie, but its notoriety comes from its established tradition at Halloween.

When the little amount of notes were written down neatly, Rune threw everything back into his backpack and followed the Professor outside. Today they would be planting pumpkins, a new side of pumpkins Rune was ready to learn about. Rune found an area of soil that the Professor indicated as he held the given pumpkin seed in his hand. The young Hufflepuff boy got down on his knees, knowing now he would have to clean this uniform. Not a big deal though.

Rune used the spade and dug a little hole into the soil. He placed his seed gently into the ground as he began to cover it with dirt, giving it a nice coating that was not too packed down. Rune placed his tools aside as he went to go get the water can. He gave the little buried seed a good amount of water. Happy with how it was soaking into the soil.

Rune was surprised at the Professor's next words. They were going to help the pumpkins grow with magic. Instantly Rune wondered if his mother did the same in her own amazing garden. Maybe that was one of her many secrets. Wiping his dirty hands on his uniform, Rune took out his wand. Pointing his wand at the pumpkin he spoke clearly; " Sementis medicates." The pumpkin began to grow a little bit, and fast. It was interesting to watch. At the end of the lesson, Rune retrieved his things from the greenhouse before going up to the castle for a much needed shower.

Marlow walked to the Herbology Greenhouse, a little upset that all year they would simply be learning about mandrakes. They were interesting roots, but Marlow was not sure how much work she could put into a single thing. She would rather branch out and learn more about all the magical plants. At least the exam will be easy if it's only on mandrakes She thought happily as she took her seat in the Greenhouse, next to her mandrake.

As the profesor spoke about the mandrake's stage, Marlow took down a few notes in her journal. She was surprised they had to name the root, after all wouldn't they just be cut up and made into medicine. She hoped this would not mean that she would get attached to the ugly root, but it's always possible when you name something.

Marlow put down her pencil and journal as she went to go get some food for her mandrake. She knew she needed to feed it pellets, pressed down into the soil. As the young girl did this, she tried to think of a name. For some reason she liked the name Rupert. And last name..umm She thought trying to come up with a clever last name. Instead she ended up just combining root and mandrake to create a simple last name. However Rupert seemed to enjoy his name, or maybe it was just the food.

Once completely fed, Marlow went to go get the watering can, giving Rupert a good amount of water. With that, Marlow packed up her items and left the greenhouse.

Mandrake Journal said:

-Next Stage: Childhood Stage
-Like Damp Soil, Shade to Sunlight, and Occasional Food
-Feed Twice a Day
-Place pellets in compost

One
Lysander had been looking forward to a more hands on subject, so when Professor Carter told the class the semester would mostly be lectures, his expression visibly fell. That wasn't why he'd wanted to take Herbology. It was the one subject he could rely on not revolving around talking and written work. Trust Lamedon to ruin that, too. He sighed, slumping back in his seat to listen to the man rattle on about St Mungos. He was familiar with the hospital - Alexei's dad worked there, and he'd visited before. The more the professor spoke, the more confusing it got. He'd been to St Mungos, but he'd never been to London. It wasn't too clear, but he soon caught on that there was another, completely different St Mungos in Britain, sort of like how they had their own Hogwarts. He jotted down some notes, circling the homework to plan to do later, if he could get around to it. He had enough homework from his non-practical subjects to catch up on as it was.

Two
Lysander was pleased to see that, though Carter had said they'd mostly be enduring lectures, he did have a plant to show them. It was ugly looking, for sure, and Lysander couldn't take his eyes off of the gross boils covering it. The instruction to never poke them only made him want to try and poke one all the more, just to see what would happen. He took some notes, highlighting the fact its pus would cause rashes if not diluted. It sounded awful, but it also had the potential to be funny. He brightened up when the man told them all that they'd be planting and harvesting the bubotuber. He was glad the semester wasn't wasted entirely on lectures, and couldn't wait to grow a new plant, as well as being able to see what happened when you did break a boil. He jotted down a few more notes, and packed up his writing utensils to leave as the class was dismissed for the day.

Lesson 1

Vi forgot her opinion on Herbology, she wasn't sure if she liked it or not. Those previous years in the subject were a blur to her at this point. Thankfully, Professor Castillo allowed her to take his class. Which was great for her if she was still to pursue her career in protecting the citizens in New Zealand. Vi arrived to her first Herbology lesson, taking a seat away from the front of the classroom. Until she can catch up with her formers years in Herbology, Vi will avoid the front seats at all cause. The Professor started them off with what they will be learning this year. Dangerous plants, fun. Like wolfbane? What's more dangerous than a werewolf, a plant? Vi couldn't take him too seriously despite dodging him on the first day. The Slytherin sighs, writing whatever he was saying down. She sure some of it would be useful. All of it, actually. Why is this subject one of the requirements? Vi left the greenhouse once they were dismissed.

O

Lesson 2

Vi arrived to Herbology for her second lesson this semester. She went to the same seat as last week, taking out her journal from her bag once she sat down. Vi listens while Professor Castillo started off with today's lesson. Vi tries to follow along, his 'personality' was a peculiar type that was off putting to her. Like, who makes a light hearted joke about murder?! Vi should get used to his type, she will be working in a field filled with his kinds. What he said just make her stomach go into knots, and, is it bad that he reminded her of her stepdad? Who she sort of still respected. Sort of.

Notes said:
Flitterbloom and Devil's Snare look alike.
Always check plants in case someone is trying to murder you.
Fire and light is the Devil's Snare weakness.
Devil's Snare is good for an alarm system.

Eventually, Vi followed her classmates and their professor to the other greenhouse. Vi observed the Devil's Snare from afar, not interested in knowing how similar it looked like Flitterbloom. She took down some notes in the dark as best as she could. Once they were dismissed, Vi set off to do some much needed studying.

O+3 for notes

Lesson 3

Vi was hoping today Professor Castillo would do more lecturing than the hands on stuff. She was quickly disappointed they would be doing the exact opposite. Not entirely the exact opposite, but they were going to visit the other greenhouse. Vi flops down her seat, sighing as she pulls out her notebook from her bag. She made a face at one of the screechsnaps. The plant caught her expression and mimicked Vi in return in it's screeching manner. "I'm not bringing that to my dorm. There's no way in heck that I am," Vi muttered under her breath. Vi tended to the plant as quickly as possible. Rehousing the noisy maker into another pot, she buried it in some dirt and watered it like she was told to.

Following that activity, Vi wanders behind her classmates and professor to the other greenhouse. Vi stood away from the stump like plant. She knew very well not to get close and she was right to do so. "Please Merlin, let there be other divisions in law enforcement because I'm clearly not going to fight that," Vi worded under her breath. In time they were dismissed and Vi went to the library to make sure she won't have to deal with something like that in the near future. She bloody hope not.

O

Lesson 4

Fanged plants, that was today's lesson. Out of all the things in the world to learn about...They looked quite ridiculous. Vi took down some notes as their professor introduce the class to the likes of Fanged Geraniums. In a way she was relieved because she thought all these years in potions (if she were to actually remember a fanged based recipe) fangs didn't come from vampires. That the fangs they used in potion classes were from plants? Vi wrote it all down. She questioned the information given but she wrote it down anyways. Whatever got her to the end of these lessons, Vi will learn it all. For the rest of the class period Vi sat observing and the left the classroom once they were dismissed.
O

Lesson 5

A field trip? Great. Vi was rather okay to know they were going on a field trip. Somewhere outside of the school, despite it being the sanctuary to observe more plants. At least they weren't in that dark, dreaded greenhouse. Vi hadn't gone out of school since she started the new semester, so a field trip sounded dandy to her. Vi humored their professor and grabbed a bingo card. She followed her peers and the professor to the portkey. Vi grabbed on, her world started spinning all around her. Transported, Vi landed on her knees over a patch of green grass. Passing her hands to few minor scratches and dirt, Vi was quickly on her feet. She bend the bingo card some and then began her search for these plants. She journey through different habitats looking near and far for these plants. None of them came easy to her, a few times Vi had to ask someone if what she was observing was one of the plants on the bingo card. Twice she was lucky to have been nearby when one of her peers identity two plants on the bingo card. Vi marked as much as she can and handed over her card at the end of the period.

O

Lesson 6

Vi sat down quickly and took out her notebook. Reviewing her notes, that's something she can do. And go over flashcards she bought from the sanctuary to help with her studying. Vi took advantage of the entire period, she never once looked up to see what everyone else was doing. She kept her focus on her notes and the flashcards. They were extremely helpful. Once the period ended, Vi took her studying to the library. She tucked the flashcards away, not wanting to let anyone see them. She didn't care, but, she actually cared. Besides, little Adorah will surely annoy her about it.

The end of the semester was right around the corner, and Saira wasn't too excited about it. On one hand, there were the exams and on the other there was the break, both she wasn't looking too forward too. It didn't help that she would have to wait another year to have to take herbology again either. She felt sad about having to say goodbye to her mandrake, even though he was annoying and seemingly rude, she wondered if some mandrakes ever got to age up, maybe beyond the stages that they were learning.

Saira put on her gloves and robe, grabbing a ribbon to tie up her hair. She made sure her earmuffs were securely on top of her ears and then brought her mandrake's pot up to the work tables. It was significantly heavy now compared to how they were in their first lessons. The young slytherin made sure to watch carefully as Professor Carter pulled his mandrake out of his pot and focused on hers. She sighed, Saira knew she wasn't exactly muscular or strong but she hoped she could pull this off (pun intended). Saira pulled on the mandrake by the base of the leaves, tugging firmly. It took a while before the Chad (Previously Willford) finally popped out of his pot. He struggled and attempted to (and succeeded) bite her multiple times. She finally got it into the new pot and covered the mandrake with soil quickly. Once he was covered, she inserted some food pellets and watered him. Saira took out her journal and wrote her last entry.

Today Chad (previously Willford) will be heading off to St. Mungo's, I don't know where that is but apparently they'll be chopped off to help people, which I think it quite sad but at the same time I guess it's necessary. This was a fun experience save for the biting and the profanities that Chad(previously Willford) were shouting.

Selene made her way to the herbology greenhouse. it was just starting to show the first signs of spring. she took her seat and noticed a row of plants writhing away over at the other side of the greenhouse. She listened as the professor explained how to repot them. it was almost useful that they let you know if you messed up. she moved it to the not pot and it squirmed nd resisted to begin with, but once it realised it had moe space it seemed to settle down. next, she added some water and fertiliser using the squirming as an indication as to when she had done enough of each. once that was done the cleaned her hands thinking that the class was over. however, it seemed like there was still more to come. she listened followed the proffessor as he lead them into the dangerous greenhouse and stopped them a little way away from a stump. had the plant been cut down? it didn't take her long to find out. as the professor explained that the Snargaluff was a carnivorous plant and ate people. the speed at which the vine came out of it was impressive. she liked plants liked gardening but there was something about the plants in here that creeped her out. she decided not to explore too far and instead just watched the Snargaluff until it was time to leave.
O

Selene made her way to the greenhouse she hoped that they wouldn't be in the dangerous one today. that place made her skin crawl. she took her seat and waited for class to start. she was glad that they would be staying here for the lesson. she listened to the explanation about the fanged geraniums they sounded interesting she had seen them as ingredients for a couple of potions and she was sure Helia had pointed them out in a stir fry recipe in her favourite chef's book. apparently, it added a bit more bite along with the ginger and chilly. when it was time to go she got a watering can and looked at her Snargaluff. it seemed okay she gave it a little more water pausing the flow when it started to squirm. then she went over to the geraniums. she took her wand and froze one of them that looked a little sad at the end of the leaves and began to pour. stopping when it started to shiver meaning that her spell was wearing off. once the class was over she headed back up to the castle ready for some lunch.

Lesson 2

Adorah was enjoying Herbology more as she got older, especially since it meant getting to engage with the earth. She found it difficult to spend too much time outside during her OWL year. Studying on the lawn wasn't something she found productive, as there were usually younger students screaming and carrying on when she needed complete focus. That meant spending a lot of time in the library. As she took her seat to focus on class, Adorah watched Professor Castillo instruct the proper way to deal with the puffapods. They seemed like regular seeds, which was of course never the case in their world. Her eyes widened as one student allowed them to transform into flowers. It seemed like a quick and efficient way to plant a garden. When it was their turn to harvest, Adorah struggled with the first stem but soon got it apart, even if it wasn't as clean as the professor had demonstrated. She didn't have very good hand strength - or strength at all. It was one of the negative parts of being a small human. She broke a pod open and admired how the seeds could glimmer in the light if held at the right angle. For the most part, she managed to get the seeds in the bucket. She had about three or four that had flourished on her table, and each time, she pushed them together to resemble a bouquet. At the end of class, she had managed to harvest about ten or eleven successfully. When she was dismissed, she gathered the bouquet, hoping to give it to Aisa, and made her way back to the library.

Lesson 3

Adorah managed to make her way down to the greenhouse with barely a second to spare. She had accidentally fell asleep, and having to quickly gather her things, had managed to get tangled up in a library chair. With her bruised knee and elbow, the Ravenclaw quietly slid into her seat as Professor Castillo began class. She didn't appreciate that there was a change for her to get physical with yet another being today, but since it was part of the lesson, she metaphorically pulled up her big girl pants and went to work. Her gloves were on tight as she reached for the bulb, and as it immeadiately started fighting, Adorah fell off her seat. The bulb started bouncing under the table, and she reached for her wand with one hand while the other tried to at least make contact with the plant. Her wand was seemingly no longer in her robe, and Adorah threw her arms over the bulb, dragging it back up to the table with her as she quickly stuffed it in the dirt. Huffing, she figured if the thing was strong enough to bounce around, it would be fine being almost suffocated by her force as she covered it. Once it was in place, she sighed and tried to wipe away the excess dirt before heading to the library.
O+2 points for some impressive wrestling

Lesson: Two

Out of all the ways Tilly imagined she could die, being murdered by a screeching plant was not the way she wanted to go. She of course remembered her earmuffs. The girl listened to Professor Carter’s instructions carefully; she didn’t want to mess anything up. She snapped the earmuffs over her ears completely, triple-checking that they were secured. After slipping on her dragonhide gloves, she got to work.

Tilly wrinkled her nose as she pulled the hideous, wrinkly baby thing out of the dirt. She stared at the squalling thing for a moment before transferring it to the larger pot. She was gentle when packing in the dirt and watering it. When she was satisfied that she had done a good job, she wrote down a few notes about her mandrake. She also had to decide what to name her.

Tilly's Mandrake Journal
My mandrake has an attitude. However, she seemed pretty happy and stopped fussing so much when I placed her in the bigger pot. I wonder how big she’s going to be next week. She doesn’t seem like she could kill me, but I’m not taking any chances- I like being alive. Her name is Melba.

Name: Sutton Spencer
House/Year: Ravenclaw Second Year
Lesson(s) Missed: One and Two

Lesson One:

Sutton had enjoyed Herbology, for the most part, her first year at Hogwarts. She did not particularly care for getting dirty every lesson nor did she enjoy the lack of 'plot' points that her Herbology classes contained. It was difficult to learn that her life would not always be a storybook full of interesting plots and characters. The young Ravenclaw had to remind herself of this when she attended her lessons. However, Sutton did enjoy the outside time in the greenhouse.

The young girl made her way to the greenhouse, her blonde hair in braided pig tails incase they were had to get messy again. Upon entering the greenhouse she took a pair of earmuffs. That was an interesting beginning to the year as the young girl wondered what dangerous plant they would be dealing with. She took her seat in the Greenhouse as she waited for the lesson to begin.

The Professor announced that they would be learning about mandrakes for the entire semester. Sutton was not quite sure what a mandrake was, but the description from her fellow student did not sound pleasant. Maybe this portion of her story was that of the dangerous and ugly creature that would become the bag guy. Could a mandrake be a villan though? Sutton listened to the Professor talk about the healing properties of this plant. She was excited to see one in person, however the lesson ended before she could. Sutton packed her earmuffs into her bag and left the Herbology classroom.

Lesson Two:

Sutton entered the Greenhouse for the second time this semester. She had not looked into mandrakes more. She wanted it to be a surprise what these plants (or was it creatures) looked like. Of course she knew that a mandrake was a plant, hence the reason they were learning about it in Herbology and not another class, but the way she had heard the mandrakes described made her wonder. They certainly did not sound the same as a mistletoe or any other plant they had learned about in their first semester.

Sutton took her seat in the Herbology Greenhouse, listening to the Professor begin his lesson. They would be repotting mandrakes today, along with a discussion about all the rules to keep these plants safe. The young Ravenclaw was excited to begin as she watched the demonstration. The young girl gasped loudly as the Professor repotted his mandrake, a scary looking baby plant. The mandrakes face was almost angry, not like a daisy or other flower Sutton could think about. Her stomach was a little nervous as she watched the professor finish his demonstration.

When it was her turn, Sutton placed her gloves over her hands and her robes on. For a moment she almost forgot the earmuffs. Quickly she took them out of her bag, placing them firmly over her ears. The silence of the lesson was odd, something Sutton was not a fan off in the slightly. It is better than being knocked out though She thought to herself as she looked at a tiny leafy plant in a pot in front of her. She grabbed the leaves firmly and lifted up with quite a struggle. Then there was a pop as the mandrake became free from it's pot, screaming and kicking, many the ugliest of faces. Sutton looked at the plant with disgust as she carefully placed it in the bigger pot next to her. She covered the plant with dirt, a better sight once the leaves were just simply sticking out again. She watered the mandrake carefully, wondering how a plant could look such the opposite of what she was used to.

At the end of the lesson, Sutton cleaned up her area, still uneasy about the mandrake sitting in front of her. She made sure to write in her journal a few thoughts about the lesson before leaving the Greenhouse. Maybe they become cuter with age. She thought hopefully.

Mandrake Journal said:
Herbology Lesson Two
Task: Repotting Mandrakes

The mandrake was definitely as the Professor described, ugly and angry. It kicked around when I repotted it. I hope it likes it's new home, but I'm not sure since it was making such a horrible face. The leaves on top look so cute. It was a surprise to see what was underneath the soil.

Lesson One:

Ryder walked towards the Herbology Greenhouse, very tempted to skip the class and enjoy a good game of football instead. However, he knew he could not get the pattern that he had last semester. Even his older sister, who was not the best student, had made higher marks than him. Ryder had to as his father put it 'buckle down.' With his father's voice in his mind, Ryder entered the Greenhouse casting one last longing glance at the Hogwarts grounds. The young boy looked around his new classroom, not very impressed. He had spent his whole home schooling career in his mother's garden, a greenhouse was nothing special. Ryder took his seat at the lesson began.

The lesson seemed to go by fast, just the basics. However he was a little upset at receiving a homework assignment already. It was the first class after all. Ryder took the quiz and a pencil, happy to take a break from using a quill. He rolled his eyes as the questions. At least it's easy He thought as he quickly filled in the questions. Once done, he left the Herbology Greenhouse. At least he still had some time left in his day to relax and maybe find a pick up game.

What are you looking most forward to about Herbology?:
Not sure. Being outside
Do you prefer lectures or going outside?:
Outside
If you have any questions, please write them here and I will answer them to the best of my ability:
Nope I'm good.

Lesson Two:

Ryder once again made his way to the greenhouse. He walked slower as he grew near to the classroom. Ryder had very little interest in plants. He understood the importance, especially the healing sorts he used when he got sport injuries. Otherwise the subject seemed dull. The young boy was not even really giving it a chance. Once his mind was made up, it was difficult to change. Trying not to show his boredom on his face, Ryder took his seat in the classroom. The room looked different today as various pallets of dirt were set around. Ryder assumed they would be planting something today, which did not sound too exciting.

The Slytherin boy listened to the Professor discuss what they were doing today. It was a treasure hunt. Ryder could not help but show a little bit of surprise at this. Doesn't sound half bad He thought liking that it was sort of a competition. Ryder was determined to find the most in the pallets; there was nothing he enjoyed more than winning.

For the rest of the lesson, Ryder spent varying times at each pallet. He was not the most careful at digging around in the soil, only using a few tools in the process. He could already see the dirt piling on his shoes as he managed to get quite a bit out of the pallets. In the end, Ryder had found a few knuts and none of the eggs that he noticed other students finding. Shrugging his shoulders he took his prize findings. The boy cleaned up quickly before leaving the Greenhouse. It was not a total waste of time, if anything the lesson went quickly enough since was engaged.

Lesson Two
Noel entered the greenhouse and found his spot. He picked an plant to stand with and than listened to the professor again. He than watched the professor demonstarting and than did it himself. He took his time and looked at it good, to see if he did it well. He did not wanted to drop any of the seeds and than finished. He had harvested a lot, but he was not sure if others had more. For him it was ok. When he took his stuff he than headed outdoor and on his way to the library.

Lesson Three
The Gryffindor entered the greenhouse and find an spot and waited for the professor to began. They would be looking at the bouncing bulbs the professor told them and he made an note of the information about the plant further. Another dangerous plant, which seemed amazing. When he could he grabbed an bouncing bulb and than quickly did what he neede dto do. He didn't liked this really, but it was neccesary. He covered it with more dirt and making sure it was good. And when the lesson was done he left the room.

Lesson Two

William still hadn't adjusted to the idea that his time at Hogwarts was almost over. He had wanted to leave school almost since the moment he had arrived, mind already turned towards the future that waited for him. Being trapped in a castle felt unbelievably stifling after years of running free in the wild. He had grown to appreciate his life at Hogwarts, sure, but the fact that it would soon be over, that he would be free to live his own way, that thought was so freeing. It was hard to focus on lessons with the future so bright in his eyes but William did his best, snorting with laughter as Abian was sprayed with stinksap. William took notes as Professor Castillo gave more information about the plant, unable to help the small smirk on his face. He wasn't surprised Abian was silly enough to just touch a plant without knowing what it did, but the visual had been very funny. Once class was over, William packed his stuff up and decided to see if his friend was okay, feeling a little mean for laughing.
O

Lesson Three

Thinking about finally leaving school had driven William's thoughts towards other facets of the future. Leaving Hogwarts meant no longer seeing Abian every day, and he had no idea what graduation would mean for... whatever this thing was between them. Just as he had found something at school to really enjoy, it was all about to be over. William imagined Abian would find... other ways to spend his time, other people to hang out with, once school was all over. What use would he still have for William? Class was a good distraction from his worries, though classes he shared with Abian didn't do all that much to help. He sat with the Hufflepuff and listened as Professor Castillo introduced the plant they were studying, leaning forward a bit in interest. Dangerous plants like this were something he didn't have much experience of in the wild, and he wanted to absorb all the information he could. William took detailed notes throughout the class, and packed up his things once it was done.

House/Year: Slytherin Third Year
Lesson(s) Missed: 1 - 6

Lesson 1Kalif Styx the Second knew that this year, and every year ahead, would be rather rough since he decided to take on all electives. Even Muggle Studies. Kalif wanted to know everything about every subject, and this was why. He felt that he could use this to his advantage. Kalif finished getting his things together and walked out of the dorms, using those that he could to walk to class with him. Though, some would not be there for his electives, but he did not care. Kalif made his way to the classroom and sat down in a free seat. He prepared a parchment, ink and a quill in case they were going to learn something. Maybe even homework if assigned.

The Slytherin looked up as Professor Carter welcomed them back into their year of Herbology. Well, it was not the best class, but it was not the worst either, since Kalif preferred not having spells to recite in the middle of the class. Kalif wrote down the notes on the board, noting that China was famous for Herbology. He wondered if the professor had been there to see it for himself. He continued with the lecture on who all used Herbalism, which sounded more like a cult than anything else. Kalif would not judge though. It was interesting that muggles and magical folk alike used herbs on a daily basis, and even had a course for them. Kalif gathered his things and left as soon as the professor dismissed them.
Lesson 2Things were moving along slowly for the third year Slytherin. That likely happened because he was taking all of the classes, so Kalif felt that time was running very slow for him. His bag was much heavier with all the books and notes he carried, but it was helping him gain muscle as well. He walked from the Slytherin house and toward the classroom that he needed to be in. Often, Kalif had to look at his schedule because he forgot where he was going. So many classes, so little time. The Slytherin arrived, finally, and sat down. He waited patiently for the class to begin.

The Slytherin could not help but see that the professor was dressed in muggle clothing, which looked odd to him. He looked on the desk to see a pamphlet waiting for them. Apparently, they were taking a field trip to Chelsea Physic Gardens, which was in London. Kalif did not know anything about that place, but they were attending during the Winterfest, which meant that it would be cold. Kalif enjoyed the cold. He left his bag and touched the portkey. It was not long until they landed, which Kalif did not land as safely on his feet than he cared to admit. He went off by himself, taking a map and heading off to explore. Kalif was not as interested in the herbs and plants as others were, even in his family. Eventually, they were back in the greenhouses, and Kalif had a notepad full of notes to look back on.
Lesson 3Kalif Styx the Second found himself a little more awake today, which was good because he had a lot to do. The Slytherin made sure that his robes were perfect, and his hair was neat. Right, now he was presentable. Kalif grabbed his bag which had everything he needed in it, and double checked to make sure his wand was in his pocket. Now, he was ready. Kalif walked from the Slytherin house and toward his next class. He had a busy schedule, so it was no wonder he did not join any clubs. After all, he had other things to focus on, though he regretted not joining SDA. He walked into the classroom and found his seat.

For the lesson ahead, it appeared that they would be taking notes. Well, some might have thought it was a disappointment, Kalif was not one of them. He actually enjoyed lectures more than the typical teenager. He got out his note taking equipment and got started on the notes for the lecture. Kalif listened to the lesson on Native American people, and then how centaurs practiced something similar. They were talking about burning sage. The professor told them to follow him, so Kalif got up and followed the students outside. They were led to a long table. He sat down at the end, and the professor spoke of sage, burning it and restoring balance to energies. Kalif himself did not believe in such things. He followed the directions, at least half way, before the dismissal. He didn't know what to do with the gift.
Lesson 4The fourth week seemed to come out of nowhere, so Kalif Styx the Second was relieved. That meant that things were going faster. Kalif just wanted to have the exams and go on back home so that he could study on what was really important. The Slytherin sighed as he finished getting ready. He grabbed his bag and walked out of the dorms with his small crew. Of course, if he had an elective that day, he would only be walked to class, and then left alone. He found the classroom and walked in. He sat down and waited for the professor to start the lesson. After all, when it came down to academics, Kalif was patient.

Would today have another day of lecture, or would it be a field trip? It was hard to decide on which one, so Kalif would sit and watch. However, the class would be given another field trip. He walked up and touched the portkey. After he got up after a rough landing, Kalif dusted himself off, and walked to the others, following the professor. They were led into a forest, where there was another man sitting there, where age was not so kind to him. He told of a story of a wolf and a boy, which sounded more like how wolfsbane came into existence. Soon, they were back at the greenhouses, and he unwrapped his gift. Well, not bad. He stepped out of the classroom as soon as the professor dismissed them.
Lesson 5The exams appeared to be coming in like a high tide, but that did not worry Kalif Styx the Second. He had other things to stress about when it came to learning how to rule a family. He knew that his grandfathers would be there to guide him, but for how long? Kalif did not know what method to use either. Asparuh used blood purity, and Kalif used family. What would he do? Kalif shrugged before grabbing his things and leaving the dorm. It was too hard to think about. Kalif managed to arrive at the class in time, so he took his seat and waited.

Another field trip, that seemed to be the base of the semester. Learning about Herbology in other countries or cultures. It was fascinating, sure. But, Kalif missed the lectures and the usual stuff. At least he was receiving that in other classes. The Slytherin could not complain. Kalif followed his class outside to the portkey, where they traveled to China. This was the first time he had been to this country. They were given Gui Pi Wan, which was a type of tea. He sipped his, finding it rather good. He wondered if they would receive some later. It would be pleasant. Eventually, back in the greenhouses, they were given some, and then dismissed. Kalif left with a nod, thankful for such good tea.
Lesson 6This was the last lesson of the semester. Kalif Styx the second got his notes, and his wand, as well as his bag. He wanted it with him just in case they did do anything other than study. Kalif left the Slytherin house to get to the class he was scheduled to attend today. He walked into the classroom and sat down. He pulled out his notes so that he could start looking ahead, just in case. It was nice to focus on some quiet, in the meantime. Professor Carter started the lesson up, with Kalif looking ahead to see what it would be. A couple of questions were asked, and then, ultimately, they were reviewing and told to leave. Easy enough. Kalif packed his things and left the classroom for the day.

Lesson 1Aerin wasn't sure if she'd like herbology. She did like plants but she had never tried to grow them before. It was still the first of classes this semester, and Aerin had spent the break with her family. She had forgotten what it felt like to have her parents over her shoulders most of the time but she did kind of miss them. She received a set of arrows for her birthday and she was excited to try them out later when there were less people on the grounds. Luckily, the first class for herbology didn't have much anything to do. She let her quill write down her homework as she spoke to it, not raising her voice more than she needed to.

Plants.

Outside.

No questions.
Lesson 2It was the second week of classes and Aerin was already bored. So far all of the days had been mostly sunny and there were a lot of people on the yard, so Aerin hadn't had a chance to try out her new set of arrows yet.

In class, Aerin was excited to hear they'd be playing with dirt. Now this was something she could do. She crouched in front of a pallet with her can on the floor. Aerin could take a shortcut, of course, her cane would make it almost too easy for her to find the things hidden in the dirt, but she opted not to. She didn't care to take a gardening tool either. Aerin put her hands in the dirt, letting the warmth of the soil and sand cover her hands. She was too busy playing with the dirt that Aerin forgot to pick up the knuts, sickles, and even the egg that she came across.
