Digging through the selection of board games laying around the student lounge, Sydney was still nursing a bruise from where the knight from the wizard chess set had head-butted her. It had apparently taken offense to something she'd said while she was setting up the board, the nerve.Glaring at the chess set where it was sitting innocently nearby, she thought bitterly that she would have been better off bringing her own set to school, but it must have slipped her mind while packing. Now all she had to play with were the mutinous school set. Though it wasn't like she could find anyone worth her time playing here anyone. So far, school had been underwhelming, her peers boring, and frankly Sydney was running out of interesting things to do. Unearthing a box of checkers, she peaked into the box curiously. She'd heard about biting game pieces before and she wouldn't put it past some of the louts around the school to set up a trap or something like that for any poor soul foolish enough to actually want to play something interesting during their spare time. When none of the checkers immediately seemed hostile, she considered setting up the board, wondering if she could still have a stimulating game against herself.

The Student Lounge, so far, didn't seem like such a bad place to be. It was less crowded than the library at this time of year, and was usually pretty quiet enough for Nova to focus on whatever she was trying to figure out - or at least had some opponents she could smash at Wizards Chess. The Ravenclaw had brought her own board to the Lounge, in case she got bored of her riddle book, and wanted to challenge someone. Nova sat, comfortable in her chair, trying to ignore the happenings of the world around her, however, she couldn't help but be distracted by none other than Sydney Townsend walking in. Nova watched her for a bit, before snorting in laughter when the Slytherin checked a Checkers game. Of course Townsend didn't have the brains for a more challenging game.

Sydney whipped her head around when she heard what sounded like someone scoffing at her, feeling her lip curl when she spotted Nova Valtoria nearby. "Ugh, don't you have something better to do, like following that brute Holland around," She said, giving Nova a derisive once over before spotting her chess board. Sydney didn't know much about Nova, but she knew plenty about the company she chose to keep and had already formed a pretty solid opinion of how worth her time Nova was. She wasn't about to forget how Nova had acted last year when she'd first met them either. "Don't tell me you think you can actually play chess," She said, scoffing at Nova's chess board, "Just because you can beat the low life's you usually hang out with, doesn't mean you're actually any good." Sydney said, smugly, watching to see if she could get any reaction from Nova.

The boy was almost at his end of his first year. Beaubelle would leave also, and he kind of felt sad of that. Ofcourse they would see eachother at home, but it was different. Liam only gave him advice of how to flirt with girls, and Noel didn'even got interest in that. He mostly hanged out with boys, but he wanted to make friends with girls too. They were cool some of them than. The brown haired Gryffindor walked towards the student lounge to get some contacts with other students. And to escape from the negativity from Eric. Noel walked inside and saw two girls from his year, but not spoken to before and saw a free spot in a comfy chair. They were talking to eachother but the way their faces stood and what he heard it wasn't so friendly. He heard that brute Holland, and figured that would be Eric. He wasn't the only one that thought like that. Noel hated fights and he wanted to help out, but he figured he would just sit down and when things would go out of hand he would show up as a knight to come in between. For now he took some candy next to him and looked around.

Nova immediately rolled her eyes at Townsend when she snapped at her. The girl seemed to have such a chip on her shoulder, such an immediate attitude that Nova wondered what was actually wrong with her. Nova's eyes flicked down to her chess board when Townsend spoke about it, a small smirk on her face when the Slytherin continued taunting her because of Eric. "I hope you realize that biting back makes you just as bad as the "low life's" I hang out with." Nova said, using air marks around the word. She didn't think Eric was a low life - sure he had a temper but he was actually fun and stood up for what he believed in. What was wrong with that? "It sounds to me like you're wanting to challenge me then? You know it is a bit more challenging than checkers, right?"

"Biting back?" Sydney asked lightly, "I don't know what you're talking about. But if someone put you or Holland in their place I'm sure it was well deserved," She said, flipping some of her hair behind her ear nonchalantly. It was a bit sad that Nova had ended up aligning herself with someone like Holland, Sydney wondered if in another life, her and Sydney could have potentially gotten along. But that clearly wasn't the case in this life, so instead it seemed like Sydney was going to have to destroy Nova at chess. "Checkers actually requires quite a bit of strategy," She answered, folding her arms and tilting her head condescendingly. "But if you're more confident at chess, let's have a go then, since you know so much. You can even pick if you want black or white first." She said, motioning to Nova and her chess board.
