History: Kahurangi was born to a muggle father, Thomas, and halfblood witch mother, Mereana, in 2007. Her father didn't know anything about magic until after Mereana was pregnant, and it came as something of a shock to him. Thomas and Mereana married young, and while Mereana had a successful career selling potions, Thomas struggled to find work in the crashing muggle economy with no education, and wound up bouncing from bad job to bad job. Kahurangi had a happy upbringing though, spending a lot of time with her mother in the garden, learning about the ingredients Mereana used and how she would grow and prepare them. Kahurangi showed signs of magic young, and Mereana tried to prepare Thomas for her Hogwarts letter coming, but he was still unhappy when it did. He hated the idea of their oldest daughter going away for seven years, studying things he didn't understand. Despite seeing Mereana's success, he was still wary of magic, and eventually agreed only if Kahurangi promised to go to muggle university when she finished, so she would have the opportunities in life he never did. Kahurangi had an average time at Hogwarts, graduating with decent marks, and as promised went to Otago University when she was finished. In her time at school, Kahurangi had always liked to tutor her fellow students, and after some thinking, she decided to study primary school teaching. It felt like a great idea, but never having been to muggle high school, Kahurangi was far behind in several subjects, and struggled a lot, eventually dropping out towards the end of second year, her grades on practical teaching work high, but essays and general knowledge slumping. Her father was furious, but Kahurangi stayed in Dunedin and found work, spending a few years working in a cafe. The gaps in her education ate away at her, and eventually she enrolled in night classes, getting her high school qualifications in her late twenties, and re-entering university at twenty-nine, determined not to let her past failure define her life. With the added education, she was able to gain a teaching degree, and more important than her father's opinion, make herself proud. Without the goal of working towards that degree she found herself drifting, not certain what direction she wanted to go from here. She applied to work at Hogwarts on a whim, not having had any luck applying to muggle schools, and the shock when she was offered a job was overwhelming.
Health: Kahurangi has always been in perfect health, other than the occasional normal injury or illness.
Goals: To do her job as an educator well, and one day start a family of her own.
