Olive had been undecided whether or not to attend the Valentines Dance that day, and had almost bailed out completely last minute. The only reason she found herself making her way up to the Great Hall was that no matter how tired she was, no matter how much she had on her plate, she valued experiences and memories more than anything else, and the prospect of turning down a good evening was too much for the former Gryffindor to accept. Wearing a simple black knee length dress and heels, she entered the room in awe as once again the room had been transformed into something much more than just the place the school had their meals. Professor Layton had been stood at the drinks table for a few minutes, before deciding that she didn't want to waste time standing to the side by herself. Finishing the punch in a few gulps, she rested the glass back down on the table and walked straight up to the dance floor in between the students. She may have been a Professor but that had never stopped her from wanting to be friends with the students, and she figured the best way to do that would be to do as to they did.

As the music had begun with some fast tracks, it was easy to dance to, enjoying the sounds as she merged with the others around her. It had been a long while since she was able to fully let her hair down and just have fun, and as she moved to the music she cared very little about whether anyone was watching or judging her, interested only in making the most of her night.

This was the first social dance that Bryce Chamberlin had been to since he was in school, and it was probably one of the first Valentine's dances he had ever been to, or maybe the only one. But instead of with a date, he was going to chaperone. The seer made his way through the Great Hall, smiling gently toward the ones that were dancing. Love surely seemed to be flying all over the place here. Bryce was definitely thankful for his lack of senses, so he could focus on other things. Bryce walked over to the snacks, and found a cookie. He certainly loved his sweets, so he took one and nibbled on it, while staying back and away from the students as they danced. That was something he never really got into, but a part of him wished that he could. What was it like, moving to the tones? Bryce shrugged his shoulders as he took another bite, while reaching for a cup of punch.

Monty really, really, really hadn't wanted to go to the Valentine's Dance. Unfortunately, being no longer just a professor, whose face would scarcely be noted absent from such an event, but the Deputy Head, Monty was somewhat obligated to go, if only to supervise with Professor Alicastell. He felt the panic begin to settle in as soon as he entered the hall, the laughter, the dancing, and the music an assault on his hyper-vigilant senses. Weaving through the crowd, Monty at last spotted a colleague, and headed across to the snack table to join him. "Hello," he signed, speaking aloud simultaneously. He had begun to learn sign language eighteen months prior in order to better help and communicate with a deaf student, and was more pleased to have done so now than ever before - even if his vocabulary was still fairly limited, and his ability to express the correct tense sometimes confused. Doing his best to ignore the palpitations in his chest, he smiled and said, "Are you enjoying the evening?" He glanced toward the dancing throng, raising an eyebrow. "It looks like Olive is."

It had been a long time since Bella had been to any type of dance, not just the Yule Ball. She loved music and dancing, but she very much doubted that she would be dancing tonight. She'd just go and enjoy the music; she didn't have a lot of marking to do anyway. Bella figured a pastel pink, flow-ey dress would work just fine, with some heels to glam it up somewhat. She walked down to the Great Hall, pausing as she entered, admiring what it looked like. It was disgustingly cute. Smiling to herself, Bella made her way to the food and drink table, where she saw a couple of other Professors. Bella supposed that at some point she'd have to make friends, and though she liked the lady that did the other years of Arithmancy, the blonde wasn't too excited to have to converse with people she would usually not. However, one of them being the Deputy Headmaster, it was a mental struggle for Bella to have to be polite and friendly towards him. Taking a deep breath before grabbing a cookie, Bella looked in the direction that the man was looking at. There, she saw another Professor, dancing with the students. Bella's mouth didn't manage to bite onto the cookie as she froze before turning to the men next to her. "Is that allowed?"

After dancing with another student to get the first quote for his article, Nixon decided he did not want a repeat of such an ordeal, and decided to seek out quotes from people occupying the great hall rather than waiting for someone to approach him. That way he could simply write down the other person's words by simply asking a question instead of forcing himself to dance under the guise it would make his article better. He traced along the edge of the hall and looked around, spotting a few professors chatting by the refreshments, and another professor dancing, actually taking part in the event rather than watching it from afar. Not wanting to disturb who was chatting, and feeling too intimidated to approach a group of professors anyway, Nixon decided to walk up to the professor that was dancing. It felt weird to be talking to a professor he did not know away from class but he tried not to show it as he spoke to her. "Hello, professor." He greeted, mustering the courage to ask his question after clearing his throat. "It looks like you're having lots of fun, would you like to say a few words about tonight for my article? I'm writing an about the dance for the Hogwarts Monthly." He was not sure if students would want to read a professor's opinion on a school event, but she did appear to be enjoying herself and this seemed like enough of a justification for him to include her words if she decided to give a quote.

Bryce had a cookie stuck in his mouth when Monty came over and started to talk, and sign to him at the same time. Bryce was pleasantly surprised and grateful. He looked to the direction of the professor that the deputy was speaking of, before nodding and signing, "Yeah, I am. The cookies and treats are amazing." Bryce did not know how loud it was, so he didn't know if he needed to speak at a certain tone. So, he stuck to signing. He finished his cookie and smiled, "She does look like she is enjoying herself. Does she teach potions with you?"

With Bryce now teaching at the school, Monty wished he'd made even more of an effort to achieve fluency. Sadly, with nobody to practice with, and only one student to talk to, he had been relying mostly on a prior interest in learning sign language to keep himself committed, and thus his vocabulary was mostly limited to the words he'd ever thought he'd need to know. Neither cookie nor treat were among these words, though he could at least interpret that something was amazing. Monty smiled. "Yes," he signed, suddenly conscious of how little he knew and afraid of it being horribly apparent.

He turned then to Bella, who asked a reasonable question, though Monty hadn't thought much about it. Olive was certainly dancing among the students, but she wasn't dancing with one student in particular. Then he might have had a problem. "I don't think she's doing anybody harm - er, at the moment," he added, wishing he could sign quickly enough to include Bryce in the conversation. A wave of anxiety suddenly swept over him again, his breath catching in his throat, the floor feeling unsteady beneath his feet. Since signing helped focus his attention elsewhere, Monty asked Bryce silently, "Did you come to school here?"

Bella shrugged as the Deputy answered her question. She certainly didn't want to go out amongst the teenagers, she'd have to save her urge to dance for the holidays or a weekend home, where she could (try to) convince Rephael to dance with her. Bella watched as the other Professor continued to dance; at least she was decent at it, and had decent style. It would be embarrassing for everyone if she was in a frumpy dress and dancing like a two year old. By the time the blonde had turned her head to speak to her Deputy again, he was apparently talking to another guy, who hadn't even greeted her. Bella frowned, thinking of how rude it was for the two of them to completely ignore her, talking in hushed tones between the two of them and for the younger one to not even say hello. At least Bella was polite. "Shall I just go then?" Sure, the Pendleton was her senior, but that was no reason for him to be rude to her. Bella wasn't about to let that slide.
