Tess felt a little embarrassed walking into the Yule Ball. Her normally very curly hair was no longer a mop of tight ringlets but had been relaxed and sleeked down with the help of potions and her makeup had been done by a girl in her dorm with more skill than she had. All for the Yule Ball where she would be attending on her own. It seemed the girl to boy ratio at Hogwarts was a little out of whack so even if Tess had thought to ask a boy, which she hadn't, it seemed unlikely that things would go in her favour because there was just a huge pack of girls but she didn't mind particularly. The chaser was just excited to dance, have some treats and maybe see the friends she had been a bit busy to see lately. With bodies to walk past she was careful to fix her dress as she made her way over to the refreshments when she got a drink for herself, wondering if she would see someone who wasn't busy mooning over someone.

It felt a little silly, but Lizzie always loved the Yule Ball time of year. Everyone looked so beautiful and glamorous, and despite spending most of her time dressed in casual, comfy clothes, she loved the opportunity to dress up fancy and feel like a posh, beautiful lady. Putting her makeup on for the ball, Lizzie decided she quite liked the way she looked like this. Maybe she was old enough to start wearing makeup more often.

Lizzie was still pondering that possibility as she made her way down to the Great Hall, but as soon as she got there, she was distracted by the wonder of the ball. It was just as beautiful and glamorous as last year and all the sights and sounds enchanted her as she looked around. Everyone was stunning, and Lizzie couldn't help beaming as she took in all the beautiful dresses around her. A small rumbling of confidence in her whispered that maybe this year she would have the nerve to ask a girl to dance. Even just as friends... it would be a start.

As she looked around, Lizzie's eyes landed on a familiar face. She had met Tesla last year and they had really gotten along, despite being Quidditch rivals. She looked so beautiful tonight, all dressed up for the occasion, and Lizzie couldn't help a slight flutter in her heart as she approached the Hufflepuff, beaming nervously. "Hey, Tesla! I love your dress!"

Tess turned as she heard her name and smiled brightly as she saw Lizzie - a girl who she thought was sweet as sugar even if they should be a bit more competitive against one another but that wasn't really Tesla's nature. She looked at the red headed girl who looked especially nice and said with a smile, "Lizzie, hi!" She paused to take a sip of juice and continued, "Thanks. You look great." She was a bit amazed that Lizzie had looked so good while Tess was struggling to remind herself not to rub her contacts for fear it would mess up the eye makeup that her roommate had put on with precision that seemed meticulous to the girl who had always felt that it was so much more fun to do other things. But she had to say, looking at the Gryffindor beater she was a bit swayed in her position. "Are you solo too or do you have a date?" Tess asked, curiously because she would be happy to spend time with Lizzie but only if she wasn't keeping the girl from someone special.

Lizzie beamed, trying to fight a slight flush creeping onto her cheeks as Tesla said she looked great. "Thanks..." She said happily. "Everyone's dressed up so pretty, it's so exciting." She commented, smoothing her skirt out nervously. "I love this time of year. Everything just feels... special, you know? With all the decorations and presents and stuff. I can't wait to get home and go swimming in the lakes." Lizzie cut herself off as she realised she was beginning to ramble, laughing nervously. "Sorry. Big mouth." She grinned awkwardly.

Lizzie shook her head in response to Tesla's question, smiling nervously. "No, I'm solo too, I think all my friends have dates." She said, glancing over to where she had seen Evelyn with some boy earlier. Even though now that she was paying attention Lizzie had noticed some older girls attending the ball together in pairs, she hadn't quite dared to go as far as actually asking someone herself. But now that she was here, surrounded by the glamour and shine, anything felt possible. Courage, Gryffindor courage. "Hey, do you want to dance?" She asked quickly with a bright smile, before she could worry herself out of doing it.
