Diana felt good about how she looked. The lipstick she was wearing was dramatic, but to her it felt like that suited the night. She thought her date would like it too, since he seemed to prefer dark colors. The dress was a bit simple, especially compared to some of the dresses the older girls were wearing, but Diana knew she was only a second year. Besides, she didn't think her parents would have bought her a ballgown no matter how much she pleaded. She was still very happy to have an actual date. She didn't think many girls in her year would be going with a boy yet, and she was proud of what she had achieved.

But when she actually saw Edmund, she felt a little bit disappointed. In her fantasies about this night, the boy had been wearing a sleek black tuxedo. He had also been taller. But she supposed that was on her for insisting to wear heels, even though she knew her parents wouldn't like it and her sisters would probably rat her out. She had wanted to look mature, though. And she felt like she did. Giving the boy a smile, she quickly grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the Great Hall. She was very excited to dance with him and show off to everyone how she had a real date. The hall was beautifully decorated, though Diana wasn't used to winter themes in association with Christmas, she did like the winter the most. She glanced at the tree, then looked at Edmund with a glint in her eye. "What do you want to do?" She asked him sweetly, though she was already thinking of how she was going to get him to get a present from under the tree for her.

Walking into the Yule Ball, Edmund had never felt so surreal in all his life. Attending a school ball with a girl was not something he had ever envisioned himself doing, and although the more he thought about it the more he liked the idea, the decision to go with Diana had happened so fast that he almost didn't feel like it had really happened. As soon as Edmund laid eyes on his date though, he was blown away. Diana looked so beautiful and sophisticated, and his eyes were drawn to her dark lipstick. By comparison he felt all wrong, his suit was dreary in the worst way, and he felt awkward and uncomfortable as she entered the Great Hall with Diana, shocked that someone as beautiful would have wanted so badly to come to the dance with someone like him. He quickly tried to shake his discomfort off as she spoke though, smiling in what he hoped wasn't too awkward a manner. "I should be asking you that." He said quickly, hoping it was a suave thing to say. That was gentlemanly, wasn't it? "What do you like to do at dances?"

Even though Edmund's suit wasn't what she had been dreaming of, he was still here. With her. That alone was enough to make her night. She had a date. As she looked around, she spotted Domi and Winnie together. With a small smile, she turned away as if she hadn't seen them. Hopefully they would be jealous of her. Edmund's reply to her question pleased her, as she enjoyed saying what they should do. She also liked how he seemed to see her as sort of an expert on dances. "Dance, usually." She lied. She had never had anyone to dance with before, but Edmund didn't have to know that. "But we could also look at those presents under the tree first." Hopefully he would get the hint that she wanted him to get her one. So far, he wasn't too good at picking up her hints.
