Landon walked into the Herbology greenhouse rather early for his third lesson of the semester with the first years. Last lesson had been quite fun and he was surprised with how successful each of his students were with the treasure hunt. Lucky for them, they would be going outside today and he was very excited to see how well they would do with their first harvest. They seemed like a trusty bunch and so he was confident that today's lesson was going to be yet another success.

"Morning first years!" Professor Carter exclaimed when he was sure everyone had taken their seat. "We are going to jump right into it today so there is plenty of time for the fun stuff. What's the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Halloween?" Landon pointed to a student near the back of the room. "Pumpkins!" they said excitedly, already beginning to get an idea of what they were going to be doing. "Yes, exactly right! 3 points to your house. We will be planting some pumpkins today. As I said before, I would like to get right into it, so..." With a flick of his wand, Landon watched as the board began writing notes by itself. "Once you've finished copying down these notes, come with me outside."
Notes said:
* The Pumpkin is believed to have originated in North America, where the Native Americans dried strips of Pumpkin and wove them into mats.

* The original name for the pumpkin was Pepon, which was Greek for large melon.

* The Pumpkin is widely known for being served at feasts as Pumpkin Pie, but its notoriety comes from its established tradition at Halloween.
After everyone was finally done copying down the notes, the professor slipped on his leather black gloves and walked outside with them. His tools, a spade, a watering can, and a rake were waiting for him at his section. The dirt looked ripe and eager for planting which Landon smiled at as he observed where his students would be working. Each station was in the shape of a huge rectangle. Landon pulled a bag of Pumpkins seeds from the inside of his robes and gave each of his students a seed for their own use. "Be sure your soil is tilled, or rather soft. I have tilled the soil already so that shouldn't really be a problem. Your pumpkins are to be in the ground and ready to grow by the end of today's lesson."

Landon flicked out his wand, "Watch what I do. You will be doing this in regular labour." A smile formed on his face. His spade hovered in the air. "Get down on your knees, since it's easier to reach the dirt. Take your spade and dig a small hole in the ground and drop the seed into the hole." His spade did exactly that, and Landon dropped the seed into the hole. "Refill the hole and then pat the soil lightly and don't compact it." Landon's spade gently patted the ground like he instructed. "Now, give it a generous amount of water." His watering can poured water over the dirt. "And now do exactly as I did."

After everyone was finished, Landon smiled. As much as he wanted to teach them the muggle way of planting, he knew that they couldn't wait too long until harvest, so he took out his wand once again and spoke to his students. "Now, in order for the pumpkins to grow a bit faster, a spell will need to be involved. Please take out your wands and repeat after me." Landon waited until all of his students had retrieved their wands and stated clearly, "Sementis medicates." He then waved his wand in a loop over his planted pumpkin seed. The sprout emerged from the ground, thickened into a vine, twining and extending its vine, waiting for the others to grow. A small bud flowered, then bloomed yellow before the petals fell away and a small, light coloured melon was clinging to the vine. "Great job guys!" the man exclaimed when he looked around to see that everyone had successfully practiced the spell. "Once you are all packed up, you may leave. Have a good week!"

Ruben entered the greenhouse, he hoped they wouldn't do a lot of handy work but apparently fate had other plans. Professor Carter then asked a question, Ruben gave it some thought. The first thing that came to his head about Halloween was costumes, scares but in a Herbology context maybe Professor Carter wanted them to say pumpkins "Pumpkins!" he said.
His face suddenly frowned as soon as the Herbology professor said they would be planting pumpkins. Fate definitely had other plans. He took a deep breath, maybe it wasn't as bad as he thought, maybe planting plants in the magical world was different and maybe he wouldn't need to get his hands dirty. He took some time copying what Professor Carter had told them too, he didn't want to go plant pumpkins.

The Pumpkin is believed to have originated in North America, where the Native Americans dried strips of Pumpkin and wove them into mats.

The original name for the pumpkin was Pepon, which was Greek for large melon.

The Pumpkin is widely known for being served at feasts as Pumpkin Pie, but its notoriety comes from its established tradition at Halloween.

He followed the professor outside alongside the other students. He then proceeded to give seeds to the students. He watched as Professr Carter demonstrated what they would have to do. The Slytherin boy then did as showed, he got on his knees hating that he was about to get his robes dirty.
He carefully dug a hole, put the seed inside the hole and then covered it finishing with a pat on the soil, using his spade. Ruben was pretty proud that he wasn't very dirty. He then watered the seed. He was suprised when after, Professor Carter casted a spell to help the pumpkins grow faster, he didn't knew herbology had spells.
Ruben casted the spell "Sementis medicates" he said waving his wand. After that he went inside the greenhouse to pack his things and leave. Today had been a very productive class.

Blake wasn't excited for this class at all! She just wanted to get past these two years quickly so she could get over with it and never ever ever look at a herbology textbook again. That's how much she hated this.
Today it seemed like the topic was pumpkins, the girl was not liking where this was going when the professor said to follow him oustide but she limited herself to just copy the things the professor had told them to and don't overthink what they could be doing after that.

Once she was done wirh copying the notes she followed the professor outside and her worst fear came true, they would actually be actually touching on soil and planting things. She watched as Professor Carter showed them how to properly plant their seed. She tried to copy what the Herbology Professor had just done and prove a bit to herself that she was thougher and braver than she looked like.
Then she used the spell that the professor casted in her own seed too, she was a bit happy that even in Herbology she would get to use magic and wouldn't just be magic-less classes.
Blake quickly packed her things after she was done with her pumpkin seed and left, hopefully Professor Carter wouldn't remeber to tell her that she was supposed to take care of the pumpkin.

Veronica was very indifferent about this class, it wasn't something she loved but it wasn't one of the classes she most hated. The girl arrived at the Herbology greenhouse to see Professor Carter smiling, that man was exhausting, how come he didn't seem to have bad days like normal people?
Not too long after she arrived he started talking about what they would be doing on today's class. Clearly it had to do something with pumpkins as her brother answered saying pumpkins and the professor wrote little facts on pumpkins on the board, they would most likely be planting pumpkins.

After she copied those little notes she followed the professor outside and it turned out that her suspicions were right, they were confirmed when Professor Carter gave each and everyone of them a tiny pumpkin seed. Veronica watched as the man showed them how to plant their pumpkin seed, the girl wasn't very interested, planting something wasn't so hard. She just needed to dig a hole, put the seed, cover the hole, water, what was so hard about that that it needed to be demonstrated?
The girl did exactly that and after she was done the Herbology Professor told them to use a spell to make their plants grow faster, a useless spell for Veronica. She didn't intend to use it at all after these next few years, she wasn't really a plants person.
She casted the spell and as soon as Professor Carter told them they could go she was one of the firsts to leave. Herbology was just boring, tolerable but boring.

Plants just were not, and never would be his thing. He just found the whole prospect of Herbology incredibly dull and so far that year it was certainly holding up to those expectations. Which was why he was already bored when he wandered into his third herbology lesson of the semester, not looking forward to what they might be learning about in the slightest. And when it turned out it was pumpkins, Flynn lost any interest he might have had. At least the lesson wasn't just all a lecture and he actually got to plant his own pumpkin, but that certainly didn't mean he was interested and certainly didn't enjoy himself as he poked a little hole in the dirt and dropped the seed in there. And while it was cool there was a spell to help things grow, it was boring magic and he doubted it was ever going to help him in the future. By the end of the lesson, Flynn was simply quite eager to get out of the greenhouse so wasted absolutely no time in grabbing his things and making a fast exit.

Harper was quickly warming up to Herbology. It seemed to be more of a gardening class than a science class. And though gardening had never been her favorite thing in the world, she didn't mind it too badly. There were worse ways to pass an hour of class. At least it was a nice break from copying down notes, and Professor Carter always seemed to be in a good mood. She still wasn't exactly sure how Herbology was supposed to help her in the future, but maybe she'd pick up a trick or two that she could show her grandparents.

Class started with Professor Carter announcing that they'd be doing something fun today, which Harper was always down for. That fun activity turned out to be planting pumpkins, which surprised her. Pumpkins weren't magical. Weren't they supposed to be learning about magical plants? Nevertheless, she dutifully copied down the notes on the board, wondering if they were really going to be quizzed about pumpkin facts during the exam.

After taking notes, Harper followed the rest of the class outside and watched as Professor Carter demonstrated how to plant a pumpkin seed. It seemed simple enough. She turned to her station and quickly dug a small hole before dropping the seed inside. Harper then brushed the dirt back in, smoothing the top until it was flat. She wasn't sure how much water she was supposed to use, so she just gave it her best guess. The whole process hadn't taken long at all, and she looked up to see if Professor Carter had any additional instructions for them.

It turned out that there was an extra step. A magical step. Now this was what she'd been waiting for. Harper took out her wand and said, "Sementis medicates," trying to wave her wand the way she'd seen Professor Carter do it. For a second, nothing happened, and she frowned. Had she overwatered it? Did she get the spell wrong? Just as she was about to try again, a sprout shot out from the soil, startling her. She watched as the sprout thickened and grew into a vine that sprouted a tiny melon, which was pretty interesting to see. Class soon ended, and Harper brushed the dirt off her hands before gathering her stuff and heading back to the castle.

While Ivy usually focused on classes and homework mostly, she had really enjoyed Valentine's Day at Hogwarts. She had signed up to deliver roses, which had been a lot of fun, and she had also attended the dance, which had been fun too. She was eager to write home about it, though she had to make sure to also mention all the revising she had been doing, as well as practicing spells for the exam. She knew her dad would expect that from her, and she didn't want to disappoint him in any way.

Ivy headed into the Herbology classroom, taking her usual seat in the front of the classroom. Professor Carter greeted them, then asked them a question. Ivy wanted to answer it, but Ruben Right was picked instead, to her frustration. Ivy copied down the notes quickly, then followed the professor and her classmates outside. The professor had them work with the soil, using the tools from last week. Then they had to plant seeds, which was pretty fun. Ivy did as the professor said, planting the seeds carefully. But then the professor mentioned a spell, and the lesson became a lot more exciting quickly. He showed the how it worked, and Ivy gasped as the plant started to grow immediately. Ivy tried it as well, and was happy to see her spell worked too. She grinned, pleased to have learned this. When the lesson was over, she practically skipped back to the castle, excited about the magic she had learned today.

Skylar walked into her third Herbology class of the semester, eager to begin. Last week had been incredibly fun, and she hoped it'd be heaps of fun this time around as well. She took her usual seat and thankfully, didn't have to wait long before Professor Carter began telling them about what they'd be doing this lesson. He asked a question about what the first thing they thought of when he said Halloween was, and Skylar's hand shot up immediately, but unfortunately, she wasn't picked. At least it was one of her friends, Ruben, but he was still a Slytherin, so that kinda sucked since the house points went to another house.

The Professor then began to tell them that they'd be planting pumpkins today, and Skylar felt her face stretch into a smile. "Yes!" she whispered excitedly under her breath, pleased to be doing another hands-on lesson rather than a theory one like a lot of her other Professors seemingly preferred. Unfortunately, she did have to do a bit of note-copying before that, but thankfully, it didn't take too long, and she was done with it very quickly, so she then stood up and followed the Professor outside, alongside some of the other students.

Breathing in the outside air, Skylar immediately felt herself relax and begin to enjoy herself even more. She knew she would always find comfort in being outside, so she was glad to have a class that was largely based outside. She went over to stand by a rectangular planting station, and took a seed from the Professor as he came around. She then checked her section of the soil to see if it was adequately soft, which it thankfully was.

The Professor then began listing out instructions, as well as actually doing them, which Skylar really liked since it meant he seemed more interested and engaged in the lesson, so she wasted no time in copying him. She knelt onto her knees, not caring if she got the knee area of her clothing wet and dirty, and began to dig a small hole into which she then put the seed after she judged it to be big enough. Taking the spade again, she refilled the hole with soil and patted it down gently, making sure not to do it too harshly though, which she knew from previous experience could often damage the seed itself. After finishing that, she was on to one of the last steps, which was simply watering the plant, so she did, following the Professor's instructions to pour quite a bit of the water on it.

It had been a pretty simple process up until then, so Skylar had been about to pack up when the Professor mentioned one more thing. To get the pumpkin to grow quickly, they'd be using a special spell on it! Skylar grinned in delight, she was glad to finally be able to use magic in Herbology! She watched the Professor demonstrate the spell and gasped as she saw his pumpkin grow, before taking out her own wand. "Sementis medicates." she said, pointing her wand at the small pile of soil under which the pumpkin seed was. To her surprise, the spell actually worked the first time, and she smiled in happiness as she saw the pumpkin snake it's way out of the soil, and grow until it became a full-sized pumpkin plant in only a matter of seconds.

She looked around the room to see how the others were doing, and saw that most of the others had also successfully completed the spell, and seeing them pack up, she too began to pack up, but tried to take longer than usual so she could enjoy the outside air for a bit longer, but she soon left anyway, glad to have had such a fun lesson to end the week on.
