Trophy Showcase:
Professor Kalif Styx entered the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, dark robes flowing behind him and his dark, onyx eyes flowing with little to no emotion at all. His eyes wondered around the classroom, before he pointed at the windows with his gloved finger, and shades lowered down to make it seem even darker in the classroom. And now, his eyes roamed down to the time turner, and saw that he was going to have to teach first years today. They were the youngest group of students in the classroom, just eleven or twelve-years-old. This would be one long day for him. Once everyone walked into the classroom, Professor Styx was standing in front of the classroom, with the blackboard behind him, and a sour look on his cruel, stone-like face. Professor Styx watched as everyone sat down in their seats, however if anyone made any sort of sounds or disturbances while he was teaching this important subject, he would ensure that they would not have a good time in his class.

After everyone was seated and silenced. Professor Styx waved his hand at the door and it slammed shut. His tone was sharp and cold, and he started the lesson, "Welcome to your first year of Defence Against the Dark Arts class. My name is Professor Kalif Styx, and will be referred to as Professor Styx. I am also the Slytherin Head of House. Most of you seem like you are excited to be learning this class however, I would not hold that excitement in for too long. This class will have essays as well as practical magic. In this class, you will learn exactly what the Dark Arts are, and how you will defend yourself against them." Professor Styx paused for a moment, and he narrowed his eyes at the students. He did not know exactly what they were thinking that this class was, but it was not going to be easy. "I would advise taking out your parchment, ink and quills, because notes are required as well in this course. I will go over the rules in this class, and you will have to remember that these rules are to be followed, no matter what." Professor Styx paused for a moment, to wait to see if everyone had done that, and once they had, Professor Styx leaned against the desk that was in front of the room to go over the rules and guidelines of the class.

"The rules are simple. One, respect of the peers and professor is required. Another is no talking while I am talking as that is a sign of disrespect, so if you have a question, raise your hand. Thirdly, we have the rule where we will be practicing spells in class, so practice only the spells that I tell you do to. Fourthly, have your parchment, ink and quill with you every day as well as your wands. You will not know when we will be practicing nor will you know when we will be lecturing. Lastly, all homework is to be turned in on the due date." Once everyone was done writing down the rules, it was time to get to the main part of the lesson. Professor Styx continued, "Now, who can tell me what the Dark Arts are?" Hands shot up into the air, but Professor Styx nodded to one single student to answer the question. The student was right, and he nodded once more to tell the student that they were correct. "Now, what I want you to do is write down a question if you have one about anything for the class, and I will do my best to answer it. This is an easy homework assignment so there would be no excuse for you not to do this. Class is dismissed." Professor Styx waved his hand and the door opened. He went back to behind his desk to finish up any other work that he had to finish up.

Assignment: Roleplay the lesson and do the assignment. Take some notes as well. Before replying to this for your lesson, be sure to read the class rules.

There was something dark and foreboding about the defence against the dark arts classroom that hardly made it seem welcoming for the first years as they stepped inside for their first lesson. Chase knew a little about Professor Styx from his brother and from the Slytherins he had met so far and nothing he had heard made him think he would like the man very much, the atmosphere generated by his classroom and his general presence only confirmed that assumption. The Ravenclaw took his seat and waited for the lesson to begin. After an introduction and an instruction to temper their excitement Professor Styx began to inform them of the classroom rules. Chase took out his parchment and writing equipment and noted them down. Professor Styx was not a man to cross so he wanted to make sure he memorised the mans rules. After someone else answered the question of what the dark arts was and they had been given their homework Chase packed away his notes and made his way out of the classroom.

Star was a little apprehensive about beginning his second semester. His first had passed very quickly but it wasn’t without its own difficulties. After spending his holidays with his friends, and visiting the shops with Ajax to get some new textbooks after his own we’re destroyed by some of the older students, he felt more confident about his classes, but that didn’t mean he was really looking forward to them. Maybe he would make some more mistakes and he would be kicked out for real, but he couldn’t focus on that right now.

The Hufflepuff wanted to wave at his friend that he saw already in the class but he instantly got the vibe that this professor wasn’t messing around. He took a seat and listened to the rules, thinking at least not all the teachers were this strict. Of course, they also had homework on their first day back, and Star did his best to think of a good question that no one else would have ever asked before. He was a little scared of the Professor but he considered whether something more personal would be good. At the end of the lesson he packed up his things and left the room.

Saori was most anxious about this class compared to any of the others. After all, if she were ever to defend her self in the magical world, this would be the place to learn it. The petite Hufflepuff smiled when she saw Wendall in the class, and took her seat next to him in case they were paired up for the first lesson. After all, she didn't want to pair up with a stranger, she still wasn't fully confident that anyone from other houses would be nice to her. After all, the boy that had pushed her down had been a Gryffindor!

Listening to the Professor made Saori intimidated, but that wouldn't stop her from learning. Her ambition to protect herself and others made her eager for the lessons. After writing down as was instructed, Saori turned in the homework and left the class confident, if not a little excited.

Ajaccio felt a little frustrated about finding himself back at school, he had actually gone with his father for the short adventure they’d gone on. It had been hiking in Australia, two weeks of nothing but the outdoors, his father and him. It had been nice, he’d spent his time well, and thoroughly enjoyed himself. THey hadn’t even returned for christmas, he’d only briefly seen his brother as they crossed paths to their respective schools. Ajax had felt a little bad, he did want to get to know his brother a little better but the choice between the house and the outdoors had been obvious for him. However, being back at school, the indoors, the same four walls every day hadn’t been a great thing to return to in his mind. He had been rather frustrated by it really. But, here he was and really what he was looking forward to were the adventures he could get up to, with Andy or Nicole. With Star. All of them providing equal amounts of fun for him. He was getting himself ready for the day, placing a beanie on his head to tame the wild, now a little over grown curls. He put some books into a bag and then headed to class.
Ajaccio didn’t know what to expect from this class, he had heard an awful lot but what he’d heard and what it would actually be like were two entirely different matters. The ravenclaw took a spot in the class, opting to sit rather close to the back of the classroom, rather than close to the front. The professor seemed a little...odd. He had heard bad things about the professor specifically. The boy looked to the professor as the man got started with a sharp tone. He listened as the man said his name, and then explained that they would be doing essays and practical magic. He wouldn’t mind the essays so long as there was enough practical magical being done during. The ravenclaw listened as the man went over the roles of the class and then finally seemed to remember that this was a class and not a lecture and actually asked them a question he watched as others raised their hands and nodded vaguely to the responses they gave. He listened to the professor as the man set them some homework, something that was really easy to do. So he came up with a question for the professor and wrote it on some parchment like the man had said to, before he packed up his things and headed out of the room.
Are defensive spells good?
So far.

Iris was happy to be back at school with her siblings. It was nice to return to the castle where she was learning a lot, even if it had also been nice to see her parents and her home. It had surprised her to find out she had actually missed Hogwarts a bit over break, so it was good to be back. She looked forward to the new subjects she would have this semester, and hoped she could hang out with her friends too. Iris made her way into the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom. Emma had already told her a bit about it, so she wasn't surprised by the darkened classroom and gloomy atmosphere. Iris took a seat a bit further back than she usually would and quietly took parchment and a quill out of her bag. She listened as Professor Styx introduced himself, feeling glad he wasn't her head of house because he really was pretty intimidating. She listened when he told them about the rules, and was glad they weren't too difficult to follow and remember. Iris kept her hand down when the professor asked a question, a little too intimidated to stand out so obviously. She listened as another student gave the answer, and she took down a few notes. The homework was easy, at least, and Iris wrote down the first question that came to mind. When the lesson was over, she gathered her things and left the classroom. She was curious what they would be learning in this class.

Is there any Dark Magic you can defend yourself against without using a wand? But maybe other types of magic?

Wandless, but it is extremely difficult to master spells that protect specifically against Dark Arts.

Anything that included the word '' Defense Against the Dark Arts '' was in Jenna's interest, for the very simple reason that she would make ends meet if she had to take on more academic literature. All those long foreign words and small letters, huge paragraphs ... Of course she was hoping that her brother would help her with this subject, because it was complicated, but she had taken her place a little while ago and put out everything she needed. for a hardworking schoolgirl.

She realized that there was certainly much to be recovered today, and she could only quietly sigh at her. Of course, this hour was supposed to be her stronger side, but if it really is, we will definitely see. When the class was over, Jenna picked up her belongings and decided to leave the classroom, wishing the professor a nice evening.

Whatever was going on with the start of school, anyone who knew Andy could certainly have expected to see him in Dada leason as a first and secular student, without exception or delays. She liked everything related to practice, spells, and especially spell practices, especially when it came to defending magic or anything in that spirit. In short, Dada's leason was one of Tourer's favorite things about Hogwarts.

"Good evening," she greeted the professor first, closing the room door behind her. A brief glance was taken of the circle of chairs, appreciating the few faces already on it, and choosing one of them that was well known. Of course Andy sat down next to Ajax and smiled friendly at him. With her few notebooks, books, ink and pen in hand, she was ready to start her lesson.

It was nice when new lessons came in and she hoped that this year would finish as well as the first year. When the lesson was over, the girl put her belongings in a school bag and left the classroom.

Poppy was excited to be back at school and start her new lessons. Learning was what she missed most but she was also looking forward to seeing her friends. She hesitated in the doorway suddenly nervous, this classroom was much darker and gloomier then she expected. She spotted Iris and decided sitting next to a familiar face was a good idea. But her usual grin faltered as Professor Styx started talking, his tone somber and serious. She quickly took out her quill and ink to start on the assignment right away, trying to think of what to ask the professor. She finished her homework and left the classroom quickly, not really wanting to spend more time there then she needed to.

Freya was disappointed that "Dark Arts" didn't involve finger-painting with blood and that she wouldn't be learning how to defend herself against murderous toddlers, but she understood that bad-guy magic must be dangerous enough to require a class to defend against and made at least a cursory effort to figure out what she would be learning.

She entered the classroom with the other students and quietly took a seat, flinching when the door slammed shut. That was dramatic, Freya thought as she took out her writing supplies and focused her attention on Professor Styx. She admired his commitment to the aesthetic, although she was fairly certain the whole creepy aura wasn't required for teaching. It did make her want to pay more attention to the class. She wrote down notes as the professor spoke, carefully noting the rules, and left when the lesson was over.

Scott wasn’t too fond of the idea of his Defense against the Dark Arts class and the professor was even scarier to him. He quietly walked into the class, glancing at the professor's cold face. Taking a seat near the back, Scott took out his note-taking supplies. The last thing he wanted to was get in trouble. Scott jumped in his seat and held in a whimper as the classroom door was slammed shut. Magic was still a new thing for him and loud noises were still startling. Writing essays was nothing new to Scott, he didn’t enjoy them, but found them easier than practical work. If this class required him to be brave, he already knew he was going to fail.

As the professor explained the rules, Scott wrote them down as he was told. They seemed pretty standard, but Professor Styx didn’t seem like he was messing around. He hoped nobody would try to break the rules during class. Scott kept quiet and listened as another student answered what dark arts were. All magic was an area of uncertainty for him. He wrote down the definition and then looked back towards the professor. The homework assignment did seem easy enough, so Scott thought for a moment about a question he had. Is this class going to scare me? How likely am I to fail? What makes a wizard a bad wizard? All of these questions ran through his mind, but he settled for a more simple question. Scott didn’t want to stand out.

Packing up his belongings, Scott hurried out of the classroom. The whole place gave him chills up his spine.

The Dark Arts room was plenty gloomy, and while Kas appreciated that it might make the likelihood of napping a lot easier, it seemed like Professor Styx might be taking his subject a tad too literally. Skirting around a few desks, Kas grabbed a seat by Freya, raising an eyebrow at her when Styx slammed the door. At least Kas was properly awake now. As Professor Styx began the class, Kas reluctantly took out his notes. Sometimes it was best to know when to pick your battles, and Kas wasn't totally sure Styx had enough of a sense of humour to bother trying to mess with him at any point. As the class wound down, he was relieved at least that the note taking hadn't been too difficult. Mostly just rules and a definition of the Dark Arts which he doubted he'd ever need to look over again. Shoving his notes into the bottom of his bag, Kas made his way out of the class, relieved to be out of the dingy classroom.

Kara had done her best to prepare herself for her first Defense Against the Dark Arts class. Her cousins had warned her about the course having a lot of notes and essays, which Kara didn’t mind. She was, however, intimidated by the professor’s reputation. In complete silence, Kara entered the classroom looking around. Usually, she went for a seat near the front, but after one glance at the professor’s face, she decided to seat in the middle. She prepared her desk with her textbook and note-taking supplies, unsure of what would be needed for the day. The classroom was silent which Kara didn’t mind until the sound of the door slamming broke the quiet. Kara swallowed, sinking lower in her seat.

As Professor Styx introduced himself, Kara sat uncomfortably in her seat. Her cousin Harper had been sorted into Slytherin, but he didn’t seem as bothered by the professor. The classroom was rather dark and dreary, reminding her of the cold dungeons in the castle. Kara hadn’t been rather excited about the class but knew it would be important for future career options. Happy that she was already doing something correctly, she waited silently for everyone else to retrieve their note supplies. Writing down rules was easy enough and following rules was Kara’s specialty. Kara wrote down the rules word for word and turned her attention back to the professor as he continued the lesson.

While Kara loved answering questions in class, she was still unsure about this class. Having just reviewed the book last night and hoping it would put her under good terms with the professor, she raised her hand. “The dark arts is magic that is usually used to cause harm,” Kara answered when called on. As the class came to an end, she was happy to see the door open. Quickly, Kara wrote down her homework assignment and left the classroom. Kara decided she would head outside for some fresh air and sunshine.
