Matt was running late today, he hoped none of the other professors saw him rushing through the hallway to get to his classroom on time. He opened the door and was both proud and dismayed to see everyone already sitting in their seats. He gave them a quick smile and headed to the desk. "Apologies, I was stuck in traffic." He joked before adjusting his glasses. "Alright, where were we? Ah yes, Greek Mythology. You'll be delighted to hear this lecture will be shorter than the last. Though not any less interesting, I hope. Today we're talking about the Cyclops, can anyone tell me what major characteristic the Cyclops have?" He nodded to a student that had their hand raised.

"A Cyclops only has one eye, right?" The student said.

"Correct." Matt said with a smile. "Take a point for your house." He cleared his throat. "The Cyclops is easiest identified by it's one large eye in the center of its forehead. They are also ancient ancestors of our modern day giants, though it was said that they sometimes grew as tall as some of our greatest trees. Other than their obvious physical traits, the Cyclops are said to resemble humans in every other way."

"One of the most well known Cyclops is Polyphemus. If any of you read Homers Odyssey last week, then you may have stumbled upon this name."
Matt paused. "Well, I know this is a really short lesson, but I want you to do some independent study. I would like you to write an essay on Polyphemus. It can be as short or as long as you want, but you get more points for a longer essay. If you all have that written down, you're free to go." He smiled and waved as the students left.

Homework Assignment:

Simon was very grateful for the fact as time headed towards exams fast approached. He was doing his OWLs and that to him was more important than any other responsibility that he had, it was more important than his quidditch, than any prefect duties and more important than Diana and his current fight with Charlotte. The teen needed to focus and he needed to pass his exams more than anything. He had to focus on his education, that was the most important part for him, this year he had thrown himself into all sorts during this year but with time, he knew he would manage just fine and when this point in the year came to an end he could pick up all those other things with relative ease once the time passed,he was sure that Diana would get it and if she didn’t then that was fine to him. He liked her a lot but it wasn’t pivotal that they were together to him. The teen was getting ready for the day grabbing all of the little bits and pieces that he would need for the day ahead of him. He made sure to have everything in his bag ready to go most of the time well before he would need to, however he always needed to put in the homework and then he was ready the part-veela left the room.
Simon sat down in his seat in the history of magic classroom and looked to the front of the room where the professor appeared to not be. So the man was running late...this was their OWL year...did he remember that? It wasn’t too long a wait until the man arrived, making a joke about the fact he was late. Did the man not care that this was their OWL year and they couldn’t afford to waste a lick of time as the exams approached. The teen focused on the professor as he got started, at the very least the professor hadn’t wasted much time with that before they moved on to what this lesson was actually about. At the question Simon raised his hand and when picked to answer said, ”A cyclops has one eye, right?” it was phrased as a question but he was fairly certain about his answer being right, which it was. The professor moved forward with the lesson going into more detail, describing in a few more details before talking about who they’d read about for homework in the last week. He nodded indicating that he had read it, it was homework after all, he wouldn’t ever not do it. But, with that the professor gave them a little more homework and then dismissed them.

Shane knew the OWLs were important but was bored of the hype and the build to them. It had been all year at this point and really all shane wanted was to go out and have fun. He wanted to be of age to drink and go into bars, he wanted to enjoy himself properly and not be stuck having to get up early every weekday morning because he had a class. He couldn’t even drop out yet, he knew at a minimum he had to get his OWLs and he would need to wait until he was able to do magic outside of school before he could consider leaving. Though perhaps he was just feeling frustrated with this year and the next, the first NEWT year would be a whole lot better. Perhaps it would be a whole lot more enjoyable to him. He would just need to get beyond this year and maybe. The teen put all of his books in his bag and grabbed the few other bits and pieces that he would need before he headed out of the dorm room and to class. He would just need to get through a little bit more and the year would soon be over.
Shane walked into the history of magic classroom and took his usual spot in the class. His gaze shifted to the front of the room where the professor was currently missing. Shane didn’t care much, instead using the time to take out his notes and books, placing them down in front of him. He looked to the professor as the man walked in, pretty pleased when the man didn’t waste any more time and just launches straight into the lecture. Shane opened up his notes to the right section, the bits he wrote down from the homework set by the professor from the last week. He began writing down the information that the professor was giving them on the cyclops. It had been an interesting part of the book which the professor had asked them to read. Shane wrote down the little pieces of information that the professor was giving them, nodding along and then wasn’t too surprised when the lesson wrapped up and they were left to independently study. The boy took a note of what they were supposed to go over and then with that the lesson was over and Shane packed up his things and headed out.
