Rory was holding the silent accordion in his hand, he had put a spell on it so it wouldn't make any sound unless he really wanted it to which suited him. He didn't want to go around with the odd sounding instrument. The costumer was hastily put together, a combination of a number of bits and pieces that he had and a cheap second hand instrument that he'd needed to fix with magic. But, it made him feel a little more at ease. He found himself with a little smile on his face and a warm expression settling on his features. Especially as he ventured into the busy great hall for the halloween feast. It wasn't a celebration he had always liked but this was his final year and with all the changes in his life, he welcome how static the event was. It just always happened. He wouldn't even be able to change it's occurrence after he left the school, it would still be something that happened and it would remain. He was looking for a bit of stability in his life, looking for something to just be the same, to not be affected by the drama of his dumb life. He would ignore his brother and whatever he was doing, he would spend this evening just having a bit of fun himself. It was a pity he was trying to be better or he might've sought out Evelyn to have a bit of fun with, but maybe he should just focus on looking for anyone. Though as he did look for someone he just glanced about and headed towards the drinks table.

As much as he loved Halloween, Kauri found it hard not to be sad this year. After years of matching costumes with Xavier, it felt lonely, dressing up by himself. It seemed fitting, to dress as half of a pair, even without Xavier here to fill in the other half. It was only when he started to get thirsty, though, that Kauri realised these gloves had perhaps not been the best idea. The pitcher was large enough that he was able to pour himself some punch without much difficulty, but picking up his cup was another task entirely. The enormous, padded glove got in the way, no matter how Kauri tried to approach the cup, and he couldn't quite get a good enough grip on the soft plastic to really pick it up. Kauri was attempting from yet another angle, too determined to accomplish this now to even consider taking his gloves off for the task, when he noticed someone else approaching, giving the older boy a bright smile. "Hey, Rory!" Kauri said happily. "Nice costume! Does that work?" He asked, gesturing to the instrument the boy was holding.

Rory looked around to the person who greeted him, and a simple fond expression crossed his features. He and Kauri had bonded over their mutual dislike for a certain hufflepuff, and Rory had come to quite like the other boy. He was a little more….happy than Rory was really used to but he didn’t mind. He nodded his thanks and held up the accordion, pushing it in showing that it played music when he did so. [”Only when ah actually play,” he told him with a shrug, he hadn’t wanted the noise to follow him around whenever he went during this event, it would get easily annoying and likely end with him wanting to punch every other person as they likely would’ve had some dumb comment if he had. Rory took a moment to look over the other boy’s costume, but he didn’t know who that was, he could only figure that it was a costume that he couldn’t do much in if the hands were something to go by, ”Ah dinnae mean tae be rude, but i dinnae know who yer dressed as,” the boy had a slightly apologetic smile on his features but it was away pretty quickly, Kauri would surely tell him what it was without any issue. ”Dae ye need a hand getting a drink?” since he could spot that while at the drinks table the boy didn’t have a drink.

Kauri laughed a little when Rory produced a noise from the accordion. "That's so cool! Can you actually play it, or is it just for the costume?" Kauri didn't think he had ever actually seen anyone play the bizarre instrument in his life, and wondered if this was a strange hidden talent of Rory's. He laughed happily in response to Rory's question, abandoning his efforts in picking up a drink to clumsily tug down the brim of the hat. "I'm Luigi!" He said happily, then realised Rory may not know what that meant. "He's like... um... he's a character from a muggle videogame. Have you played videogames? They're really fun." Although he had gotten used to living without them at school, Kauri couldn't imagine his childhood without videogames. He wondered how kids from magical homes grew up with so little fun stuff to do. "Oh, yeah, thanks." He grinned in response to Rory's offer. "I can't pick things up easily with these gloves." Kauri paused. "And I'm not sure I can take the gloves off easily either. I didn't really think ahead when I was getting dressed."

Rory shook his head, ”Nah, cannae,” the boy replied with a shrug, he had never been that musical, and he didn’t think he would’ve been able to keep it up in school. ”It’s just fae the costume,” he did think it was maybe a waste of what little money he had but he didn’t not want to make an effort for the last halloween celebration. It was the only part of his outfit that really was indicating what he was. The boy stared blankly at Kauri as the boy seemed to tell him what it was but obviously sensing that ROry wouldn’t know what that was explained it. It helped him a little but admittedly not too much, he remembered what video games were from muggle studies, ”Ah used tae live in an entirely magical community, video games wouldnae work,” the teen admitted, he could admit that maybe it sounded fun to do, but he hadn’t had the opportunity to play it before so he wasn’t probably missing much with it. He chuckled lightly when he agreed to a drink, ”Aye they dinnae seem practical at all,” the slytherin said as he poured the other guy a drink and then grabbed one of the straws near by before holding it up, ”Dae ye ‘hink that’ll help ye a bit?” he couldn’t help the fact he was still mostly chuckling at Kauri’s troubles, ”Does the Luigi guy have as big hands or is it just the costume?”
