Raffael was going through a hard time, he was getting over it with the help of Hadan, but there were days when it got to him and even she couldnt help him feel better about it. So Raffael did what he had done so many other times when he hadnt felt too great about a situation.
Thrown himself into books.
History of Magic had been a subject he wished to look into more and after not finding sufficent information to get his mind of his parents in the regular section of the library, he had sought out the History of Magic Professor and collected the restricted section password.

Raff now found himself walking through the main section of the library to the back where the door was passworded and the books were no doubt dusty. Stepping into the section, he was right in assuming it wasnt used often. It felt darker in this part and Raffael wasnt sure he had made a clever decision in wanting to come here. Nevertheless, he knew information that was unknown to other students would get his mind off things. He stepped into an isle, before remembering he hadnt shut the door. He walked back and closed it, expecting to feel alone, but the feeling didnt reach him. Shrugging it off, he walked into an isle once more and scanned the titles of the books in search of some information.

Scorpius didn't know what it was but lately he found himself, well, bored. Something about his second year was...off. Things seemed to be good, all his friends were getting along, he and his girlfriend were fine, and he was starting to pick his grades up, but still, it wasn't as fun as he thought his second year would be. He felt himself wishing he were a first year again. Did that mean that if there wasn't some sort of drama between them all then things were boring? He didn't like thinking of it that way.

Scorpius had been in the library looking up some stuff for his favorite class, Astronomy, though his grey eyes kept finding themselves straying from the text on the pages. He was possibly distracted because he knew of the Ravenclaw vs. Slytherin game coming up in which he would be playing as one of the two Ravenclaw Beaters. He had literally jumped for joy once he found out he had made the team. Because of this, his mind was too full of Quidditch tactics to contain any educational information, even if it was his favorite subject.

The Ravenclaw sighed softly to himself at the lone table and had just leaned back in his seat, propping his two feet up on the seat in front of him, when he noticed someone going in to the Restricted Section. This too-nosy Ravenclaw had always wanted to enter the forbidden section of the library, wondering why it was off limits to him, though had always been unfortunate in his quest. He glanced around the room, looking for the Librarian, and when he noticed she wasn't looking, the thirteen-year old slipped into the room behind the boy who'd kept the door open. He saw the silhouette of the boy returning to the door, possibly to close it, so Scorpius immediately hid in the shadows of the dark section, both literal and figuratively. He clenched his teeth tightly together as he tried to slow his breathing down so it wouldn't be audible but as soon as the boy shut the door, the noise on the other side seemed to cease immediately, making any noise on their side quickly noticable.

Raffael continued scanning the shelves, the feeling that he wasnt alone still with him. But surely if anyone was in here they would have come out when Raff opened the door. He wasnt exactly being sneaky, anyone could have heard him. So he was clearly being ridiculous. A book on dark wizards of the past caught his eye and he pulled it down. Maybe reading about the horrible lives that some people in the past had when these dark wizards were in power, would make Raff feel better about his own life. As horrible as that theory was, it usually worked.

Walking to the end of the isle, he looked around and noticed one tiny desk in the corner of the room. Walking over to it, Raff didnt bother with a chair and simply sat on the table, his back leaning against the wall. He opened the book and began to read about Lord Voldemort, a subject he had always found interesting. Raff was still feeling slightly uneasy though, his eyes occationally flicking up to glance around the room.

Scorpius remained immobile for a few minutes, afraid that he had surely been caught by the boy in the room but after a while he noticed the boy reach up for a book and took a seat on a desk in the corner. Scorpius smiled to himself, glad that the boy hadn't caught him sneaking in and proud that he had actually managed to finally get in! There were times last year when the Ravenclaw had been sitting against the door of the Restricted Section spitting out all kinds of different combinations of words in hopes that one of them would be the password to it, so to finally be in here was a huge accomplishment for him, one that he'd surely love to boast about to his friends one of these days.

Making sure he remained in the shadows, Scorpius quietly shuttled along the wall, just far enough so he could be in another aisle. There really was no need to be afraid of the boy catching him now. He could just lie and say he was in here before he got in, simple as that. Once he was in another aisle, Scorpius tip toed over to the end of the aisle and saw another similar desk. He took a seat and pulled a book that was thankfully out of its place and laying on its 'back' rather than standing upright. Once he had the book opened to any random page at all, he was going to pull out his wand and light it up, and then make it seem like he had been here the entire time and that the only reason the boy hadn't seen his wand light at first was because he had left the door open, flooding light in in the first place. However as he was pulling his wand out of his pocket, it accidentally slipped and fell to the ground with a clatter, though a bit muffled due to the dust. Scorpius winced as the noise echoed and muttered quietly, "Crap."

[Sorry if it doesn't make sense! Let me know if you don't understand it. ]

Raff was angling his book towards the tiny window that was next to him, trying his best to shed some light on the pages. Really there needed to be larger windows or at least brighter lanterns in this room. Maybe it was designed to make students freaked out and not want to return.

Suddenly there was a bang and Raff almost dropped his book. There was then a muffled noise, that sounded like a voice. Raff carefully placed his book down and slid off the table he was sitting on. Pulling out his wand, he turned down a corner to see a figure. "Lumos." He said firmly, recognising a boy now. Stepping closer, Raff's brows were furrowed together. "What are you doing?" He said on instinct, not sure what else to say. If this boy, who looked quite a bit younger than Raffael, had been here the whole time, why hadnt he made his presence known?

Scorpius quickly bent down to pick up his wand from the floor as he heard the other person coming. He muttered "Lumos" almost exactly at the same time that the other boy had, so the wand light emitting from both their wands was really strong. Scorpius shielded his grey eyes from the light and lowered his wand slightly so it wasn't in his face. When he asked what he was doing here, Scorpius shrugged slightly and gestured to his book as he simply said, "Reading. Why else would anyone be in here right?" he attempted to be comical about the situation.

Raff blinked a bit at the bright light, but lowered his wand slightly like the other boy had. He couldnt help but narrow his eyes at the boy's response, he wasnt sure if he could believe it, but what proof did he have against it? Running a hand through his hair, he cleared his throat unconciously. "Right." He reluctantly agreed. "Well, what are you searching for? Maybe I could give you a hand?" Raff offered. Half his mind was thinking about ways to prove this boy wasnt meant to be in here, but the other half thought it might be handy to have him around, if only to get certain thoughts off his mind. Maybe Raffael could do both at the same time?

Scorpius looked down at the book he had just thrown open randomly when the boy asked what he was looking for. He was just going to say whatever subject the book was about, but he mentally groaned when he saw that it was full of dark arts stuff, that wouldn't look good at all if he were to say he was searching for that. Instead, Scorpius quickly blurted out, "History of Magic." He didn't know why that class had come into his mind, probably because it was the one he paid the least attention in, because Taylor was in that class too so he was always distracted, but he was surprised his mind hadn't immediately said 'Astronomy' on instinct, since it was his favorite class. Then again, his mind often thought faster than he could comprehend and already understood that if he were to say he were searching for Astronomy books in the restricted section was a little odd. "What're you here for?" he asked the older boy lightly, hoping to get the conversation off him. The boy looked familiar but at the moment Scorpius couldn't place him.

Raffael eyed the younger boy suspiciously at his quick answer. Raff picked up an Irish accent and the fifth year could have sworn he had heard it before. But he hadnt met the younger student, so maybe he was a Ravenclaw also? Had he heard it in the common room. Raffael silenced his ever-racing mind. It would make the most sense though. The same question was directed back at him and Raff found himself giving the younger male the same answer. "History of Magic too." He was about to explain what he was studying exactly, but stopped himself. It was just his nerdy Ravenclaw coming through and his desire to discuss learning. "What year are you in?" Raff asked curiously, the guy didnt seem too bad, but he was still acting rather suspicious, something that still gave Raff that slightly uneasy feeling.

Scorpius could sense a bit of suspicion from the older boy so he tried to relax more, make it seem as if this wasn't his first time being in here. Though behind his grey eyes his curious mind was itching to tear open each book to see why they had to be stored away in here, labeled Restricted. He smiled with surprise when the boy revealed that he too was here for History of Magic, like the Ravenclaw that he was, he looked forward to future History of Magic lessons if it meant having to do research in here as the boy had seemingly come in here for.

He asked what year he was in so Scorpius replied, "Second year, and yourself?" The boy definitely looked older so at the moment, thirteen-year-old Scorpius was feeling rather young. "I'm Knight by the way, Scorpius Knight," he introduced himself thinking if the two were going to be in here they might as well get chatty. The boy looked oddly familiar and thought he might've seen him around the common room before, but he wasn't sure. He was definitely a new face, not one he had seen last year, so that was throwing him off as well. "What house are you in?" Scorpius asked when his curiosity could no longer take it.

[I'm sorry about this one too. ]

Raffael noticed that a simple question loosened the younger boy up considerably. Maybe he wouldnt be bad company after all? Raff decided to push his suspicions aside, at least for the first part of the conversation anyway. "Fifth year." He said with a shrug, taking in the boys age. Not that it really mattered, age was simply a number and always had been to Raffael. It was the person behind the age that mattered the most. "Raffael Fox. But just Raff is fine." He returned, offering his hand for Knight to shake. Raffael liked his full name, but it usually was easier for people to shorten it and call him Raff. Back in France he had also been subject to the last-name nick-name like Scorpius Knight had, but Raff found no one in New Zealand had taken it up yet. Maybe because Raff didnt have too many close friends here? He didnt know and it didnt really matter.

"Im in Ravenclaw, I transfered from Beauxbatons earlier this year though." He admitted, although his French accent made that fact extremely obvious. "Im going to guess your in Ravenclaw too, because I know I've seen you around somewhere." Raff confessed his earlier thoughts, hoping they were right, or he had the potential to seem slightly creepy.

Scorpius saw the older boy extend his hand to shake as he introduced himself and Scorpius immediately saw this as a sign that he was one of the good guys, no one to be suspicious over, at least that's what he was thinking now. Scorpius extended his own in return to shake his hand firmly before letting it go once more. "Well nice to meet you Raff," Scorpius replied with a polite smile, calling him by the name he said was fine. Scorpius nodded his head slowly as Raff said he was a fifth year, it was obvious he was older, though Scorpius still couldn't pin point where he'd seen him before. He could remember seeing him at times in the Great Hall but he could've been sitting anywhere and Scorpius couldn't recall an exact table, was it the Ravenclaw table? So what, that didn't exactly confirm he was a Ravenclaw either.

When Raff revealed that he was a Beauxbatons transfer and in Ravenclaws, Scorpius "Oooohhh"ed lightly as he nodded his head once more, both in realization and to answer yes to Raff's next question. "Yeah, I knew I wasn't imagining that I recognized you from somewhere!" Scorpius said aloud with a bit of eagerness, not out of excitement for knowing the boy, but for knowing his was right in his assumption.

"Right back at you." Raff said with a lazy grin, shaking Knight's hand firmly. He chuckled when the younger boy admitted he had recognised Raffael too. There was that sense of relief after confirming something that he had been unsure of and Raff let another grin fall onto his face. He concluded Knight wasnt all that bad. Who cares if the kid snuck in? Maybe he just wanted to study? Raff couldnt deny him of that. As a means of conversation Raff chose to talk about the subject they were both apparently in here for. History of Magic. "So you trying to cram some extra study in for History of Magic, or?" Raff enquired casually, lifting his wand that was still lit, up to the shelves, catching some titles that he wouldnt mind reading a bit later.

[Im thinking now Scorpius can just mention he's not doing so great because of his girlfriend 'Taylor Mercer' being in the class, then the good stuff can begin. Sound okay? ]

[Ooooh yeah sounds good to me :D ]

Scorpius was relaxed a lot more and eased into the seat he was sitting at, thinking Raff was not half bad. And if the older Ravenclaw happened to figure out that Scorpius snuck it, it didn't seem like he cared enough to rat him out, so that was good too. When Raff questioned his reasoning for being here, History of Magic, Scorpius nearly said 'Huh?' because he had forgotten that was his excuse.

Thankfully he caught himself before he blew his cover and ran a hand through his midnight black messy hair quickly. "Yeah I'm not doing too good in that class," he admitted with a small nod of his head, almost as if ashamed. He was a Ravenclaw after all, supposed to excel at every subject! "It's just that my girlfriend, Taylor Mercer, is in that class and, well, I can't seem to focus in class, you know?" Scorpius added, his lips sliding into a smirk at the end. He didn't know why he felt the need to say his girlfriend's entire name, or even her first name at all, but he figured it was a sense of pride, being able to call someone like Taylor his girlfriend, and he wanted everyone to know it.

Raff was listening to Knight's reasoning and he was about to chuckle when he heard the word 'girlfriend', it made perfect sense to be distracted. But the following name completely threw him off. Turning away from the books in which he had been looking, he placed a questioning gaze on the Second year. "Taylor Mercer?" He said in disbelief, his mind flicked straight to when he had been Knight's age. When he met the cute young girl at Bakery who acted much older than her age. When he had slipped away from his strict family to talk and laugh with her. They both knew it was a crush and they had treated it as such. Raffael shook his head, there was no way she could go to this school. That would just be crazy!

"She doesnt... live in Australia does she?" He asked thinking it would be a good place to start as any to find out if it really was her. Raffael still remembered almost everything they had spoken about in those earlier years. She was over on holiday, he had been forced to say goodbye when she returned to Australia. A million things were going through Raffael's brain, but he forced them aside to think about later, once he found out if she really was here at this school and Raff was talking to her boyfriend.

Scorpius had began pulling a few dusty books out of the bookshelf now that he was free to fulfill his curiosity. He had only just opened a book on dangerous plants and where to find them when he heard Raff repeat his girlfriends name. Normally Scorpius would've just nodded without looking up, but the tone of his voice caused hi to look up with a furrowed brow in confusion. The next question that came out of Raff's mouth caused Scorpius' suspicion to return once more, making his body tense up subconsciously. "Yeah, she does..why?" Scorpius asked slowly, trying to keep his voice level and free from a jealous tone. Most people knew he was rather short-tempered and easily jealous due to his past relationship, but this year he was trying to control it, he didn't want to ruin anything with Taylor.

Raff's eyes widened when Knight confirmed that his girlfriend was the Taylor that lived in Australia. The Taylor Raffael knew. The Taylor Raff had dated. She couldnt be here, could she? Raffael was expecting Knight to say no, it was a different Taylor. Raff let a smile slip onto his face. He made a note to find her and say hi. What a small world! Would she even remember him? Raff shook his thoughts off and removed the smile from his face, reality that he was still here talking to her boyfriend kicked in. Raffael didnt want to give the guy the wrong idea. "I used to know her." He said, trying to keep it simple. Knight seemed tense, it probably wouldnt go well if he straight up told him they were quite close back in the day.

Scorpius tried his best to remain calm and not freak out, if he did he was probably just jumping to conclusions about anything. It was the smile on Raff's face that worried him at first, but he had to remind himself not to act upon his short temper, he needed to learn to control it. When he said he used to know his girlfriend, Scorpius raised his eyebrows in surprise. "Oh really?" he asked, trying to mask his voice with a nonchalant tone. Of course it was obvious Raff used to know her, he knew that she was from Australia just by her name alone. "How? Are you two..related or something?" he hoped, still attempting to maintain a cool tone of voice. Scorpius avoided Raff's eye by continuing to pull books out of the dusty shelves.

Raff wanted to turn away and look through the book shelf like Scorpius was doing, but he didn't want to seem weird. Instead he stood still, feeling the tension in the room build slowly. He continued to flick his eyes from the bookshelves to Knight. At the question Raff froze. Lie, lie, lie! His mind yelled, he didn't know how Knight would respond if he told him the truth, but realistically, Raffael had never been good at lying. It was against his morals to do so. Surely if Raffael caught up with Taylor, Knight would find out anyway? "Um, not exactly. He said, keeping his tone indifferent. "We kinda used to date." He said slowly, well it was out now, Raffael just hoped that Knight wasn't the jealous type, although Raffael didn't have a good feeling about it.

Scorpius was busily occupying his hands with the turning of these oddly heavy pages of a book written in a foreign language to him when Raff's words hit him unexpectedly. Had he been holding the book up in his hands instead of it being laid on the desk, he would've dropped it with shock. "What?" he asked, completely dumbfounded. The knots in his stomach began to twist with uneasiness as he stared back at Raff, confusion and a hint of jealousy beginning to take over his shocked expression. Scorpius cleared his throat hastily and asked, "When?"

The younger Ravenclaw pushed the abnormally heavy book away from him and looked up at Raff once more, his brows furrowed together, somewhat in anger. "But you're...older.." he stated without waiting for his reply to his question. For some reason the fact that Raff was older intimidated Scorpius quite a bit. What if he and Taylor met up again and she saw that he was much more older and wiser than he was, so she would ditch him for Raff? As it was the thirteen year old was currently going through puberty, why wouldn't Taylor want someone older, someone who's voice was deep all the time and not just sometimes before it occasionally cracked a few octaves higher with embarrassment. Scorpius gritted his teeth and tried to force such horrible thoughts out of his mind for now as they were not helping him stay calm.

Raffael's bad feeling only got worse at the 'what' that came from Knight. Raffael had no other choice than to look at Knight blankly, he had obviously heard what Raff had said, so there would be no point in repeating it. Raffael raised a hand to run through his hair. He felt awkward, standing in the restricted section of the library with an old girlfriend's current boyfriend who had just been informed of the previous relationship. Who wouldn't feel intimidated by the situation?!

When Scorpius spoke again, Raffael had to wonder if the boy was capable of saying more than one word at a time. Raff opened his mouth to answer the question, maybe to clarify that it was a few years ago and he didn't need to freak out, but he was cut off by Knight. He let a moment pass, waiting to see if Knight had anything else to add. Raffael knew that if he was presented with the same situation, sure, he would feel weird about it too. "It was two, maybe three years back." He explained carefully. "She was in France on a vacation with her family. Which is why its odd to find out she's here... And age is just a number isn't it?" Raff said with a shrug, trying to keep his tone casual. Taylor had been so mature for her age it hadnt felt like there was an age difference at all.

Raffael couldn't be too sure why he was trying so hard to not tick off this Knight guy. Maybe it was because he didn't want an instant bad impression to go straight to Taylor. Surely he could just let Knight over-react and it wouldn't matter? Maybe Raffael wasn't that type of person. Either way, something told Raff that he shouldn't provoke the second year, so he trusted his instincts.

Scorpius waited for Raff to respond, his body tense as he waited, almost as if waiting to spring. But why should he be tense, it's not as if he was going to attack Raff or anything. He listened as Raff explained that he and Taylor's relationship was a few years back, before they met, before they had even gotten to Hogwarts. This relaxed him slightly so his shoulders drooped as he exhaled softly. He nodded his head nonchalantly, brushing away what he said about age being a number. Maybe to him, the older male in the room who still wasn't going through puberty, it seemed that way. But to Scorpius, who had only been 'officially' a teen for less than a year, age was a huge deal to him right now.

Another realization hit him as he mulled things over in his mind. "She doesn't know you're here does she?" His tone of voice indicated that Scorpius already knew the answer to that question, dreading the answer. What would Taylor do if she knew he was, what would she do if she knew that he knew that she and Raff dated. What if Raff fell for her when he saw her again? I mean, who wouldn't fall for her the moment they see her...I did, he thought to himself, his emotions a mixture of sadness and jealousy. Wait, why did he sound as if he were admitting defeat already? That was not the way to be thinking.
