Rory hadn't particularly wanted to attend this event, he'd won best costume the year before and he didn't think that he needed to bother trying again, but she had wanted to go and despite his better judgement and the fact he was thinking about breaking up with her he decided that he could spare the time to going with her. They hadn't arrived together, and Rory wasn't even sure what she'd gone as, but he'd decided to dress as Draco Malfoy, the slytherin from the history books about the boy wizard and the school he had been supposed to attend. It was a rather easy costume, his regular uniform and blonde hair, he hadn't needed to try much at all. Rory was sure most people wouldn't even think that he'd dressed up and that he was fine with. The teen was waiting for her, or well, he was supposed to be, and he was keeping an eye on the entrance to the great hall, he was wondering around the room, looking for something that was maybe a bit more fun. Where was Evelyn or Fleur or someone he could flirt with who could be a little more fun. He just had to find them and probably find out if their partners were about. If they currently had any...just to pass the time until Therese turned up.

Sophie was never very excited about Halloween, but she had dressed up last year and would again this time. Her costume was a simple one. A wig, a pair of glasses, a Gryffindor tie and she was Harry Potter. Sure, she didn't really look anything like the man, being a short Japanese girl, but she figured people would recognize her anyway. Especially if she pushed back her fringe to reveal the badly drawn scar on her forehead. But she wasn't going to do that. It was a lazy costume, but Sophie mostly dressed up so she would blend in better. She had covered the Halloween feast last year for the paper and hoped to do so again. If anything interesting happened, she would have to be there. She picked up some candy at one of the tables, looking around for anyone interesting to talk to. It was hard to recognize anyone when half the people in the room were wearing masks, and she didn't see any of her friends yet. Her gaze was caught by blond hair, and for a second she thought she had seen Isaac. But the hair was lighter, and the face definitely a less welcome sight. Rory Fergusson was mostly someone she remembered as Amber's enemy. He had sold her her wand in her first year, but had almost refused to because he disliked Amber so much. Sophie hesitated for a moment before wandering over. "What are you dressed at? You should know 'yourself but blonde' is not a costume."

Rory glanced at the person who was speaking, recognising the girl vaguely, someone he was sure that he should maybe remember a little better than he actually did. Her name seemed to be on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn't remember her, but it was certain that she remembered him. That or she just blurted out words without really thinking about, and certainly knew that he wasn't blonde. Her point was correct, he was just lucky that the person had been in slytherin and so he had only had to do minimal effort. The sixth year took a moment to pay attention to what she was wearing, the glasses and the scar visible, "Ah'm Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter," he replied with a smirk. He would happily take this opportunity to be a little in character, especially when met someone who had been the more famous part of that history. Each had played their part, but of course everyone knew the potters. Some of their descendants were at the school. Rory had to admit she had put a little more into her costume, but it wasn't too complicated either. It was just a uniform of a different house and some fake scar.

Sophie could tell the guy wasn't really sure of who she was, which she understood. Though she was also sure he knew her sister. "I'm Amber's sister, remember?" She said, prompting his memory. She was surprised to hear the older Slytherin boy was dressed as Draco Malfoy, and she couldn't help a slight smile at the coincidence of it all. "Wow, I guess we match." She took out her wand and twirled it. "Should we duel, Malfoy?" She asked, trying to follow along with his joke. But she hoped he wouldn't take her offer seriously. He would destroy her in a duel, as she wasn't very good at charms or defence and was two years younger than him. "Are you here by yourself?" She wondered if she could get some sort of quote from him for the paper, though she knew she would have to ask a better question than this for that.

Rory looked at her and gave a small smirk, "Ah dinnae 'hink we should," the boy replied, "Couldnae be fair, Ah'll fake duel ye," Rory was many things but he wouldn't pick on this girl and do a duel with her, that would very unfair. That would just be crazy unfair. He had years on her in his schooling and though he was not overly studious he didn't think it would still be a good idea. He knew if he beat her, then Professor styx would be dragging him by the ear to kick him out or something. He was trying to get into less trouble with the older man, "Ah'm waiting far ma girlfriend, Therese," the boy replied with a shrug, glancing towards the door to see if she was there yet, "Are ye?" he returned the question, not sure if he should keep talking to the younger girl, he wasn't particularly interested in flirting with her, she was probably in the same year group as Therese, but she seemed younger and just likely to not be interested in him so where was the fun. Maybe she would agree to a fake duel, then that might be fun but he wasn't even sure he'd really want to do that.

Sophie decided not to point out that she hadn't really been stupid enough to suggest a real duel right here and now. She was in a pretty good mood, and somehow kind of enjoyed this strange interaction with the older boy. He was no Isaac, for sure, but it was funny to have an accidental matching costume with someone. Especially someone as unexpected as him. She pointed her wand at him. "Then I'll fake win." She said with a grin. "Everyone knows Harry Potter was stronger, if probably a bit overrated." She wasn't sure if that was true or just the impression she had gotten from books, but it sounded right. As he mentioned he was waiting for his girlfriend, she was surprised to hear a name familiar to her from her own year. "Oh, let me know when you see her so I can leave." She said seriously. The last thing she wanted was some sort of fight with a girl because she had been talking to her boyfriend. "I'm not really waiting for anyone, but I figured I might run into my boyfriend here." Unlike the yule ball, the Halloween feast wasn't really anything special for the two. They both liked their space, as far as Sophie knew, and weren't the type of couple that had to do everything together. She remembered last year when he had been talking to a girl in a costume that matched his own. She had reacted jealously, but they hadn't been dating yet. She wondered if Isaac would mind her talking to Rory, but figured he wouldn't be as immature as she had been a year ago.
