Hi,

was wondering if it were feasible to have more academic achievements available to students.
I think it would encourage more class participation, more competition between students, friends and frenemies alike, give more to roleplay about within the school sphere academically and have something for those who are extremely academic to work towards.
possible awards being ...
[ul]
[li]Best grade in subject for year

[li]Most outstanding student (again in subject or in year)
[li]best attendance

[li]most improved student
[/li][/ul]

they don't have to be awarded at end of year feast or anything but something that professors feel are merited for certain students who have really done well in their class - again an encouragement for students to attend and give great posts in class.

Just an idea ... thoughts?

Hi Linda,

Thanks for the suggestion.
Unfortunately, a lot of this isn't really possible due to the way the site works, the way school works in the HP universe (or at least Hogwarts), and the way the gradebook works.
Because the scale is only six letter grades (O,EE,A,P,D,T) with no variance (O+, P-), or percentile ranges that we know of (O = 90-100%) this gives most students very similar grades.
Compound this with the fact that the minimum grade for a posting in a lesson is an A (and the reality is, simply posting in a lesson usually yields an O[note]This is not something we want to change. HNZ shouldn't be a chore, and we try to balance rewarding people who do the hardwork of putting up with lessons and not being too onerous on those who just want to have fun.[note]) means that things like "Best grade in Potions" or attendance would fall to a lot of students... like a lot of them. Last IC year, there were at least 6 students with perfect Os.

A professor could choose to become like Slughorn and have special recognition for their star pupils, but something organized or codified at the End of Year feast would be difficult.
