Most of the focus Ares had at Beauxbatons was on quidditch, and despite the fact the boy probably had some subjects he really needed to study for, he really wanted to practice. He was disappointed that they weren't able to verse the New Zealand Hogwarts team for the second year in a row. It was beginning to become frustrating, and somehow the boy couldn't help but blame himself. He really knew he had to get better to prove to everyone that he belonged on the team. He headed out onto the pitch with his broom gripped tightly in his hand. It was a nice day with a small breeze and only a couple of clouds in the sky. Not many people were on the pitch either and so Ares thought it was the perfect time to practice. He mounted his broom, the practice quaffle underneath his arm, and he began doing some laps around the pitch before heading towards the hoops, hoping that he'd be able to get a few practice shots in even with no keeper.

Amelie was enjoying her day, and had taken a bit of time to go out on a run. Being an alternate seeker wasn't really the most demanding job there was, but she enjoyed it all the same. She was jogging around the school, when her feet carried her towards the pitch. She looked up on a whim, and slowed as she saw Ares. She watched a moment, before smiling and waving up to him. "Hello, Ares!" she called to him. "Training?" She asked.

As Ares flew around the pitch, he became distracted as he heard his name being called from down below. Looking down, he noticed it was the alternate seeker. He smiled and waved in greeting, flying down a little lower so he could talk to her. "Yeah, just want to get better." he admitted with a shrug. He hovered off the ground. "Are you here for some training too? We could do some laps together. Maybe race if you're up for it?" He wasn't a child anymore, but he figured flying faster was a skill that they both needed, and he wouldn't be opposed to training with a team mate.

Amelie smiled, summoning her broom. It was taking a moment to arrive to her, so she decided to strike up a conversation while she waited. "Sure! I was just out for a run," she told him. "A few laps sound fun," she laughed lightly. "We could always use more speed," she mused. She caught the broom as it flew out, mounting it quickly and hopping into the air. "Ready?"

Ares nodded when she said she was just out for a run. He liked to go for runs sometimes too, and was glad that he wasn't the only one that thought that way. He watched as she caught her broom and mounted it. "Yep, ready." he said after he positioned himself beside her. "We'll start with three laps. On my count... three... two... one." With that, Ares quickly took off, pushing himself as he began the race alongside Amelie. He wasn't entirely confident that he would win, since she was a seeker and he was only a chaser, but it was definitely a challenge he enjoyed.

Amelie smiled, stretching a moment before lowering herself onto her broom. She knew she could outpace him, quite easily, too. But really, where was the fun in that? She shot forward as he announced they start, laughing. She glanced back at him, and winked playfully. "Come on!" She called back, edging a bit more forward. "Is that all you can do?" She laughed delightedly.

Ares smirked a little as Amelie teased him. He knew she was good and a little bit of banter definitely gave him the motivation to push on. He felt his throat dry as he panted. It was quite a tough race, and eventually Ares came out second, but not by much at all. He still hated this however and instantly regretted asking her for a race. He was angry, but he didn't dare want to show it. "Good run." he told her, wanting to find something else they could do together that he could actually beat her in. "Wanna just pass the quaffle around now instead?"

Amelie wasn't surprised when she won the race, giggling a bit as she slowed down and looked back to Ares. The next idea seemed more suited to him, but she didn't mind. "Sure! That sounds fun," She told him. She wasn't the best at passing the quaffle, but she had played with Jamie enough times that she could do a decent job of it, at least. "So, Ares, lemme ask you, why did you want to be a chaser?" She asked him, genuinely curious to know more about the boy.

Ares smirked when Amelie seemed happy with his idea. He thought it was fair enough for them to do something he was good at since Amelie just won at something she was good at. At her question, he hesitated. He knew why, but he hadn't told anyone, mostly because he hated people thinking he was bad at anything. She seemed genuinely curious however, and it wasn't often that Ares spoke to people that cared. "Because I can be fast. But not too fast, like a seeker has to be. I also don't have to be strong, like a beater, or have fast reflexes like a keeper. I just have to be able to aim." he told her truthfully. "There are also two other people I can... hide behind. So if I do bad, it's not all on me." Ares had plenty of experience with people blaming him for things, and at least with other people there with him, we wasn't the only one to blame for being bad. "What about you? Why did you want to be a seeker?"

Amelie considered what he said. That was certainly an interesting take on things. She wondered if Jamie would say the same thing if she asked him. She made a mental note to ask him about it later. She thought over it a moment as he returned the question to her. "I suppose it's because I liked the attention to details it required," she mused. "In my free time, I like putting together large puzzles and coloring detailed pictures. Catching the snitch requires a great deal of patience. I suppose I liked that aspect of it."

She looked back to him with a smile. "I wanted to join the team because I like to play. My cousin is a chaser for the French nationals. He and I are rather close, or at least, I like to think we are. But he's a good deal older than I am. Being on the team makes me feel close to him, and a bit less lonely." She explained. If he could be open with her, the least she could do was return the favor.

Ares nodded as Amelie answered his question. Personally he wasn't really one for details, but he agreed to disagree with her. He definitely wasn't patient like she was, and maybe that was why he would be a terrible seeker. "The French Nationals?" Ares was a little taken aback when Amelie said her cousin played for them. They were a good team, but the boy tried his best not to swoon over them in front of her. After all, he didn't want her thinking that he was weird. He suddenly became a little insecure about practicing with her, but tried his best not to show it. "He must give you a lot of pointers then." he said. "Which probably means you have a fair chance at being better than me at catching the quaffle." He flew up higher into the air with the quaffle in his hands, quickly throwing it towards her to see if she could catch it.

Amelie nodded. "Yes, Jamie Derouin, I don't know if you've heard of him." She laughed lightly. She smiled as he talked about her getting pointers. "Only sometimes. Jamie and I just play for fun, nothing really serious," she told him. She followed him higher up, catching the quaffle easily as he threw it and tossing it back. "This is nice, we should play together more often," She told Ares, smiling at him.
