Closed School Shopping

Kara giggled a little bit, chocolate frogs really were pretty odd. "Only a little more to go and we will be shopping for all our supplies." She looked towards the store his sisters were in, wishing it was their turn to be shopping for supplies. Kara was usually a very patient person, but the wait to go to Hogwarts was a difficult one.

Looking for a topic to distract her from being impatient, she tried to think of something to talk to her new friend about. "I have been loving The Giver, by the way." Kara said trying to remember exactly what part she was at. "I just finished chapter seven. The ceremony was very interesting. I find that world fascinating, yet dreadful to actually live in. I wonder what job I would be picked for. What do you think you would be chosen for?"

Daniel grinned."Knowing my luck, it wouldn't be the greatest job!" He laughed."But it'd be a completely different world if we lived like that. I don't think they'd have anything close to magic."

Kara wondered for a moment what career she might be assigned in the world of The Giver. “Well, I know I wouldn’t want to be a teacher. Perhaps an engineer or food production. That would be nice.” Those seemed liked the jobs most interesting and most like Kara. She’s not very much of a leader. “No magic would be awful. I couldn’t imagine my life without it. It’s all I have ever known!” She said. Kara’s parents actively use magic around her ever since she was a kid. It’s something she has always come to know and especially now that she will be going to Hogwarts.

Daniel gave a laugh."I guess I wouldn't know any different if I hadn't been told about magic." He thought about it. It seemed that everything had changed overnight."But teaching doesn't sound great. It'd be interesting to teach magic though. Could you imagine that? Magic all day, every day." He laughed again."I guess that's what we'll be doing at school though."

"Magic all day at school and magic all day for the rest of our lives." Kara often thought about the freedoms of being over 17. You could do magic whenever you wanted. "I am glad you are magical and I am glad we got to become friends." She wondered if Daniel considered her a friend as well. Kara didn't have many friends, she wasn't really the outgoing type. "I thought about if I wanted to be a potions professor when I graduate, but I don't think I could stand up and talk to students. I like the idea of just inventing my own potions to sell and maybe even having my own shop."

Daniel nodded."It'll be great going into school having a friend. I think going in alone would be intimidating." He listened to Kara's plans for when she finished school."I'm still trying to figure everything about magic out. I'm not sure what I'd like to do."

Kara thought for a moment about how new all this was to Daniel and how it was probably difficult to adjust. “You’ve got plenty of time to figure it out and you’ll have me right beside you to help.” She hoped she would be useful to him. “Is this difficult for you? I don’t mean to pry, I just want to make sure you are doing okay. My moms muggle born and one of my uncles.”

Daniel shrugged."I think it'll be easier once we're at school and learning stuff. It's hard not being able to talk about it at home." He grinned at Kara."It's great having someone I can talk to!" His parents, especially his Dad, weren't super talkative about the magical part of his life. It was calming to talk to someone and not feel like he was going crazy.

Kara didn't want to press the matter but felt content enough with his answer. "If you ever need to talk about it, you know how to reach me." She felt a little sorry for him, even though her mom was a muggle born, her grandparents were always very supportive and happy about magic. At least, that's what Kara has always been told. She glanced over at his sister's shopping. "Your sister's are full of energy."

Daniel smiled."Thanks." He looked towards his sisters."Yeah, they get really into it. Could you imagine them shopping for Hogwarts?" He laughed."That'd be entertaining!" He hoped that they would be magical. It would be a great experience to share with them. Still, even if they weren't, he'd one day get to tell them about it. At least, somewhat. Enough for them to understand where he went to school.

Kara laughed. "I feel like that would have a blast with magical pranks and gifts." She wondered if they would be magical or not. "As I said, my mom is muggle born. She has two brothers, one of my uncles is magical and the other is not." Magical bloodlines always fascinated Kara, but she didn't understand why people used it as a status symbol. There was still a decent amount of divide in the community.

Daniel thought about how interesting bloodlines were."I wonder how bloodlines work," he said."How you become magical with a non-magical background." He thought for a moment."I wonder if there was someone else in my family who had magical blood. Maybe a few generations ago or something." He wished that was the case. It would've been nice to have a magical family member."It must be super cool having magical parents," he said to Kara.

Kara thought for a moment. "I've read somewhere that it's common for siblings to both be muggle-born in the same generation because of the magical gene resurfacing after many years. Likely, somewhere down the line, there was some cross between the two." She looked down at her shoes, trying to remember more information. "I like learning magic from my parents," Kara noted, before quickly adding. "Our magic isn't any different though."

Daniel nodded."I'd love to have the three of us together. I don't think we'd be in the same house though." And then I can keep an eye on the girls. Make sure they're okay. He wasn't sure how different everything would be when he left to go to school, but he knew that Sam would write to him. He'd just have to figure out how to get letters to and from her without owls.

"You guys seem to have pretty different personalities," Kara said with a laugh. She wondered what house his sisters would be sorted into if they got into Hogwarts. Thinking for a moment, she thought about the two of them and the house they would be sorted into. Kara wanted nothing more than to be in the same house as him but knew their friendship would work even without it. It would just be nice to have somebody in the same house. "I think it'll be alright even if we don't get into the same house together. We will still get to see each other around the castle and in classes."

Daniel laughed."Yeah, we're all pretty different." He wondered again which house he'd get into. The sorting felt like a lifetime away."And we could always study together. I'm sure we'll have some classes together." He grinned."And you could teach me everything you know, so then I won't be confused about magic!" He was a little disappointed that he didn't know much, but he knew that he'd be able to learn heaps at school."I'm looking forward to learning more about magic. It's super interesting."

"Of course we can study together," Kara said with a big grin. "And you can teach me everything you learn without me!" She said curiously about the different classes. "I know we will do awesome." Kara said briefly dreaming about the future.

Daniel grinned."It seems so far away. And likes it's never going to happen." He shook his head."I always think I'm dreaming. But it's going to be great!" He was looking forward to his studies. It seemed like a great opportunity.

"I think about apparation a lot," Kara said. "I know we aren't old enough yet, but it's a nice thought." She knew she would have to take a test and lessons on it first. It can be dangerous if done improperly. "If you could instantly teleport anywhere in the world, where would it be? Where would you go?" Kara thought about her answer.

Daniel was amazed."Teleportation is real? That's so cool!" He'd never thought about the fact that it might actually exist, so this was a great excitement."I'd love to go somewhere further overseas. I wouldn't mind where. I'd travel wherever, then come back home to sleep." He liked the idea of visiting everywhere and being able to come back home whenever."Where would you go?"

"Teleportation in a sense, I suppose." Kara nodded. "I don't know that I would go anywhere imparticular, but I would love to just be able to travel places as much and as easily as I could and wanted to. That's a lot of freedom to find new plants or forms of magic." Magic in other countries fascinated her. They all did it a little differently and it was something she enjoyed reading about.

"Wow, that's so cool." Daniel wondered what the rules were around teleportation."When do you learn it? At school?" That would be such a cool subject, he thought. Useful too. Suddenly, he thought of something."What happens if you teleport into a wall or something?"

"I don't know when we start learning it, but I think you have to get a permit through the ministry and pass some tests. Probably when we are 17. That'll be our hardest year, year 7." Kara was already starting to stress about having enough time to finish her homework and she had plenty of years until she was older. She shifted. "There's a word for it, but I don't remember. You could probably go to the hospital, I am not sure how that works." Kara stopped to think about it for a moment, thinking about how awful that must be.

Daniel laughed."I'd probably be the one person to get stuck in a wall or something. It makes sense that we'll learn it in our final year. That way we'll be older and know what we're doing." Daniel was looking forward to that, but knew he'd have to work hard with everything else before then."I wonder how much study time we get for homework and stuff like that," he wondered aloud.

"I hope a lot. I don't think I will really have time to join any clubs, I'll be too busy trying to get straight O's." Kara stressed a little over the idea of not getting good grades. "I've always gotten good grades and I am worried I won't at Hogwarts. I have never taken magical classes. I know it'll be okay though."
