Jasper was in a hurry to get back to the common room. He had to keep ahead of the other kids in grades, and that wasn't the easiest to do. He had discovered that surpassing his family in school wasn't very hard. Onyx and Amaya didn't care and Sapphire only cared if she was interested. Seeking a new challenge, he'd decided that being the best in his family wasn't enough. He would just have to be the best. He hurried down the corridor, hardly noticing when he dropped one of his books. He rushed on without it.

Alice was happy to be back at school, but also liked that Rose still wanted to spend time with her even though she had her friends here. Alice had just walked with her to her common room, even if it was pretty out of the way for the Hufflepuff. She had liked getting a peek inside when her sister went in, though she hadn't seen much. Humming softly to herself, she was on her way to the stairs so she could head down to her own common room. A young boy passed her, and just after he walked past her he dropped a book. Alice turned her head, but he hadn't seemed to notice. She picked it up quickly. "You dropped this!" She called, holding up the book before hurrying after the boy with it.

Jasper paused when he heard a girl yelling. He turned to see a taller girl running towards him with a book in hand. He looked down at his books, sighing in aggravation when he realized the book she was holding was his. "Thanks," He muttered sullenly as she came near. He held his hand out for the book. "I can't believe I dropped it." He told her with an embarrassed grin.

Alice was glad the boy reacted to her voice and turned around, she grinned at him and waved the book as she approached. It seemed like he quickly realized the book she was holding was his, and when she caught up he thanked her. "No problem!" She said, handing it over. She looked at the younger boy and the small stack of books he was carrying and shrugged. "I can! There's a lot, and you seemed to be in a hurry. Everyone drops things sometimes, don't worry! Are you a first year?"

Jasper put the book back with the others and nodded as the girl asked if he was a first year. "Yes. Jasper Michaels. A pleasure to meet you." He held out his hand as he introduced himself. "I am a first year Gryffindor." He told her, though he realized he was being rather obvious since he was in the Gryffindor hall.

Alice smiled at the boy, still getting used to not being the youngest at school anymore. She was still forgetting she herself wasn't a first year. She smiled at his formal introduction and shook his head. "Pleasure is all mine, I'm Alice Holland. Second year Hufflepuff." She said with a smile, adding her year and house the way he had.

"Holland?" He made the connection immediately but didn't bother mentioning it. The new minister and his house prefect. The expectations in her house must be horrendous. "That is a nice name," He amended quickly. "And I like Alice. Like 'Alice in Wonderland.'" He offered her a smile. "You must find all sorts of adventures."

Alice's blue eyes widened a little when the boy repeated her name. She still wasn't used to recognition. But if had recognized it, at least he only commented on it being a nice name. Alice smiled at him, liking him better for it. "Thanks!" His next words made her laugh and shake her head slightly. "Not as many as you might think." She said, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Unless you count rollerskating and tending to plants as adventures."

"Rollerskating?" Jasper asked, his brow furrowed. "That must be why your name was familiar. Avaria Lockwood has rollerskates here as well. Only she refers to you as 'Allie'." He rolled his eyes a bit. "She is friends with my cousin." He explained, wondering if Alice knew the twins.

Alice's eyes widened when the boy mentioned Ava, and she grinned at him. "Oh! She's one of my good friends." She said happily. "I didn't know you knew her. She talks about some of her friends a lot, one of them may be your cousin? I haven't met them myself." Alice didn't mind the nickname. She did call her 'Ava' after all.

Jasper shrugged. It still amazed him how none of his family had made any lasting impression here at school. It's like they were content being gemstones! The only one he could excuse was Sapphire; she seemed to run her own show, and she hadn't grown up with the moniker as he had. "My cousins are Sapphire and Onyx Michaels. As far as I can tell Ava adores Sapphire."

Alice nodded when the boys mentioned the names. "Oh yes, she definitely talks about them a lot. Sapphire especially. I hope to meet her one day." Alice said with a smile. "It must be nice that you have cousins here to help you, I know I'm lucky to have my sisters. And the flying teacher is my cousin."
