Professor Trina Adelia

"Welcome, Second Years," Professor Adelia greeted as she stepped into her classroom, seeing a few students inside already, looking curiously at the plants she had hovering in front of the room. "You'll see soon enough..." Trina said with a wink in answer to the questioning looks as the remainder of the students began to file in and take their seats.

"Alright! Today we will be diving into the world of repelling spells. Would anyone like to take a stab at what the purpose of this spell is?" Trina inquired finally after all the students had taken their seats and it was time to begin class. "Go ahead please," She said nodding towards a young student. "Well... they repel things." The student said with a tone that suggested that was obvious and thus a silly question to ask.

Professor Adelia smiled, but ignored the student's obvious grab for attention. "Precisely," She replied quietly, "Even though that was a bit obvious. It's not as simple as that, however. There are as many repelling charms as there are types of... well... bugs." Professor Adelia said with a smirk and indicated the plants beside her. "There are repelling spells for pests, muggles, even on the quidditch pitch. Most places that you go in the wizarding world uses this spell in one way or another. When a muggle gets too close to a wizarding location, such as the ministry of Magic or the World Cup Stadium, they suddenly remember something they forgot to do or are late for and it causes them to rush off in the other direction," Trina said as she began to walk the length of the room with her hands clasped in front as was her normal habit while lecturing. "Those, of course, are only put into effect by the stronger witches and wizards. Must be sure they stay in tact, after all." Said the professor with a smile.

"The repelling spells were also very important to quidditch games while the snitch was still in use. In order to keep the snitch from leaving the pitch, the spectators used to perform repelling spells during the game so the snitch would be unable to escape." She said, noticing and making a mental note when she saw a few perk up noticeably at the mention of quidditch. "Today, we will be practicing these spells on some of the plants from Professor Blaze's greenhouses. The plants have lacewing flies on them. We are going to remove them and gather them up. I'm sure the Professor will be grateful for your efforts. Though, I will leave their potion use and information about these plants to their respective experts." Trina said returning to her desk where the plants were located along with several jars.

"To perform the spell, flick your wand towards the plant and say Repello Lacewings!" Trina said demonstrating on one of the plant, causing a flurry of flies to flee from the plant allowing him to freeze them and scoop them up midair into a jar. "The incantation is repello, but you must specify what you are repelling. If you don't concentrate on what you wish to repell, your results will not have the desired effect." she explained. "With this charm, it is not the lacewings we are using the spell on. We are using the spell on the plant itself. Once cast, it makes the plant no longer desirable for the lacewings, causing them to leave. Once they have flown off the plant, those who recall the freezing charm can use it to hold them so it's easier to put them into the jars." Professor Adelia said waving her wand, moving a plant and a jar to each student's desk. "Be sure to aim carefully at the plant only and not at the lacewings themselves. We don't want to damage the lacewings by them trying to get away from themselves. They could split themselves in half or worse." said Trina.

"I want you to practice for the remainder of class. I'll be around if you need help. If you successfully gathered a jar full, you have no homework. Otherwise, your homework is to finish removing the lacewings from the plant." Trina said and stopped back at her desk, flicking her wand at it and sending a jar and plant to each desk.
