Professor Davershire was seated on the floor, next her desk, but if anyone did not remember Ava was an animagus, they would have been utterly confused as to why a golden retriever sat where their Professor usually would.

The dog watched as the students filed in, and loved the confused look on all the faces. She ran around the classroom, running between the legs of the students, before jumping onto her chair. Once Professor Davershire was sitting on the chair, she transformed back to a human and smiled widely before she began class, getting off the chair, quickly realizing that she was standing on it. "As you all may or may not now, we will be learning about animate transfigurations next year. But since this year is a year on introductions and generally familiarizing yourself with Transfiguration, we are going to cover a few things that you will be learning about in more detail in later years."

She paused to allow students to prepare to take notes, while grinning, then continued. "Animate to Animate transfiguration will provide the backbone for nearly every advanced transfiguration spell that you will learn in future years. You must capable of transfiguring animals in general before you can hope to learn to switch, vanish, or conjure them, or even put your hands on human transfiguration. Naturally this grouping of spells includes the animagus transformation.
An animagus is a wizard or witch who can transform into an animal on his or her will, but they are very rare. As you already know, I am one of these. Students that cannot perform advanced animal transfiguration are not likely to ever become an animagus.
" She looked around and noticed a few students appeared crestfallen. "But I will be hopefully be helpful enough to help you succeed." She said, before laughing at her sentence she used.

"To make sure that animagi in the country don't get up to mischief, this branch of magic is one that is heavily regulated by the ministry." Professor Davershire flicked her wand at the blackboard, making the following text appear.

Quote:

Animagi: Requires a license and is heavily regulated. The Ministry has a list of registered animagi, for obvious reasons. Any animagi found to not be on the list faces time in Azkaban prison.

Apparition: A license is required to apparate legally. You will learn to apparate in year six, and not a moment before.

Invisibility: The Ministry has tried time and again to keep restrictions on the use of invisibility cloaks and spells, unfortunately to no avail.

Muggles: The Department of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, also known as Creation of Dangerous Objects Department, attempts to minimize the number of harmful objects created from muggle items. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not.

Time Travel: This branch is heavily restricted, and for obvious reasons. Very few people ever receive permission to travel back in time.

"Ok, so here's some homework for you. Remeber, you don't have to stress too much about doing this, just want to see your opinions." She waved at the chalkboard. "See you all next week!"

RP the lesson.

Paige was walking into the Transfiguration Classroom with a slight smile on her face, she did not like all the rules, but the subject was difficult and a challenge for Paige. Paige found it weird that there was a Golden Retriever sitting on the chair that belonged to their Professor. Paige had a somewhat confused look on her face and when the Golden Retriever walked in between her legs Paige was totally freaked out, she did not like dogs on bit.

Paige scribbled everything on a piece of parchment that lay in front of her, her handwriting still as neat and clean just how Paige liked it. Paige looked up from her work and stared into the Golden eyes of Andrea. It began what Paige dreaded for the bunch of ministry rules that made everything less excited. Paige would say I told you so to Andrea, but deep inside Andrea knew the rules. Paige was just going to write down her opinion about everything, she was not going to say it nicely, she was going to say her exact thoughts about the subject. Paige was quickly down with writing down her opinion about Transfiguration and Andrea and she left the classroom to do something else, maybe to get a pumpkin pie since Paige loved those.

Should there be more or less laws limiting transfiguration spells?

I think that with all the laws that Transfiguration has already, it is already a lot less interesting. Transfiguration should be free and if you get caught doing something wrong with it you can always get extra protection, but not take the fun away for everyone else. I get why there are rules, but it seems that the Ministry banns almost everything and if people want to do something they should not they do it anyway, that is how humans work. Some branches need restriction, but not everyone of them, then you can just ban Transfiguration in its whole since it is dangerous. Charms is also dangerous and that is not that controlled by the Ministry. Everything is dangerous when you make it dangerous, if someone wants to use it for personal gain they will get caught or be thrown into Azkaban for doing so. So I do not really seem to get the idea of all the rules, they make the subject a whole less interesting.

Andrea followed her friend Paige to the Transfiguration classroom, yawning widely. She hadn't slept too well the previous night and was thankful that Paige had woken her up on time this morning otherwise she probably would have slept through her favorite class. Andrea knew that her fellow snake wasn't particularly thrilled with a branch of magic that had so many rules and regulations but...she loved it! It was what she'd always dreamed magic was all about.

Picking up her things, she followed her friend into the classroom and they took their seats, wondering where the professor was. It wasn't until Andrea caught sight of the Golden Retriever that she remembered and smiled at the dog; she loved animals. Becoming an animagus like her professor was a dream for Andrea, one she hoped that, by the end of her time at Hogwarts, would come true. It would be even greater if Paige learned with her!

Settling into her desk, she didn't even blink when the professor transformed though her smile was quick when she saw the woman standing on her chair. They were going to be learning some rather basic, outline type things today rather than diving into the topic and Andrea had to admit she was a bit disappointed. But she knew that in order to perform magic, you had to understand it so her disappointment was shouldered and she drew out a quill and some parchment, ready to write. She ignored her friend and the 'I told you so' look she shot her as she began to write her notes. The class was over rather quickly and they were dismissed with some simple instructions for homework.

Transfiguration Lesson 3

More or Less? The Laws of Transfiguration

Based on the knowledge I have acquired about the art of Transfiguration, I would like to agree with the Muggle statement: "Less is more!" While I understand that laws and ground rules are important for such a complex branch of magic, adding more rules for witches and wizards to follow just takes away from the desire to cast such spells. It is understandable that some laws such as the inability to bring the dead back to life, or to make food out of thin air, exist. However, to create rules about Transfiguration that are wholly unnecessary just makes everyone's lives that much more difficult.

Thick Skin, Soft Heart, Fearless

Perseas entered the Transfiguration holding something that was rarely letting anyone witness him having it in his hands. It was a book with black shiny leather and creased binding. The bleached title on the covering including something about mysteries in the magical world had captivated the attention of the energetic first year. It was enough to make him borrow it from the library without even browsing through its old pages. He was early for today's class but this didn't matter. He quickly had a seat and dropped his bag at the foot of the chair. Perseas decided to exploit the twenty minutes left for the beginning of the class and he let the pages fell open in his hands. There was just a hint of foxing towards the edges of the pages and a faint scented musty smell touched his nostrils. Fascinated about what he had just read, he wondered if that was the kind of stuff that Unspeakables were dealing with. It was a moment of daydreaming for the young cub until the class began.

Perseas shoved the timeworn book in his bag quickly before someone was going to notice him reading books. The last thing he wanted was his twin or even that hufflepuff geek, Rhiannon, to make fun of him. The golden retriever might have been in the room ever since Perseas entered inside but he was so absorbed in his book he didn't pay attention. Perseas shook the unpleasant idea of practising magic on this beautiful dog. Toads were a better candidate, why not toads? But to his relief, he witnessed the golder retriever turning into Professor Davershire as it was jumping on her chair. "Wow!" he exclaimed awestrucked upon realizing that their transfiguration professor was an animagus. It would be so cool to be able to do that, he thought and listened to the Professor as she was sharing with the class her knowledge about Animate to Animate transfiguration and Animagis in general. Transfiguration was the only class that so far homework wasn't a chore for Perseas. So far it was food for his mind, providing rhetorical questions to answer or quizzes requiring only imagination. When the class was dimissed for today, he picked up his heavy bag and decided to use one of the secret areas he had discovered recently and continue reading the borrowed book.

Should be more or less laws limiting transfiguration spells?

As far as I am concerned, the laws and restrictions in the area of transfiguration are quite enough to prevent misuse. In a matter of fact, the existing laws are also restrict practitioners that don't intent to use transfiguration spells to harm but for academic reasons or for fun. We are wizards and witches. We can't really restrict what's in our blood.
Registration of animagus is fair enough to keep them in track. What could assist in the limitation of misuse would be for every future animagus to take the Unbreakable Vow. That could be used at least on the advanced parts of magic and transfiguration. By taking the vow from a young age at school, I believe that the misuse will be reduced to the minimum.
