Connor stepped into the classroom placing a few papers on her desk. Looking about she was glad she had cleaned up after the second years lesson yesterday, which meant she did not have to today. Sitting down after straightening some of the desks she sat down behind her desk and waited for the students to file into the classroom. She waited patiently as the students filed into the classroom. Today she was going to be teaching them the cheering charm, not that she was exactly excited about the charm. She wasn't a fan of charms that changed people's personalities, however she knew some-days everyone did need this charm to just get them out of the rut. Once the time was set for class to begin she started with a roll call to see who was in attendance for the lesson. "Good morning everyone, welcome to Charms. Today we will be learning the Cheering Charm, Exhilaro." Standing up Connor walked to the board and waved her wand so the name of the spell would appear on the board. "Well, for those of you who don't know, the cheering charm is a Charm that, well....cheers people up. A little history on the Cheering Charm: it was created in the 1400's by a man named Felix Summerbee. It was said that he had the worst luck of his life and was in a terrible depression. He tried everything pull himself out of it, then one day he stumbled upon this handy little charm. Rumor has it that he later went mad from excessive happiness; which is a good thing to keep in mind: Too much of a good thing is bad." She looked around the classroom hoping the students did not have any ideas about excessively using the charm, otherwise they would end up in a quiet room alone to calm down or even sedated in the Hospital Wing. But she did not want to frighten them too much by saying so. "Right, well, I will be teaching you how to perform a Cheering Charm today. Now pay attention and practice this one, this WILL appear on your OWLS in two years." She paused, allowing it to sink in. "Wands out." she said to all of her students. "The wand movement is, of course, your standard swish and flick." After telling them the incantation, she listened carefully and had them repeat it until she was sure that they were all incantating it perfectly. "Okay, well, I would like you to practice it on each other today. I will be walking around and watching for safety reasons. Once you are done practicing, or have successfully completed the charm, I would like you to do a very brief essay on the benefits of the Cheering Charm. This doesn't have to be anything special, just something you think the Cheering Charm could help. Go ahead and pair up and get started now. The effects of the Cheering Charm, when properly cast, will only last for a couple hours, so if you're in a wonderful mood when you leave here, don't worry; it's not permanent." She grinned again. "When you're done, you are dismissed to leave! Good luck and see you next week!" Role Play the Lesson. Short barely even three sentences for the homework for full credit today. |

Rosie was feeling a little bummed out today. Her parents decided to make their decision to split official. The letter had come in the mail today for Rosie to read during lunch. It broke her heart to know that she would have to decide whether she wanted to live with her mom or with her dad before the year was over with. Thanks to the entire situation, Rosie was beginning to wonder if people could ever be in love and stay in love. If she found someone she cared for, would she still feel the same way a year from then? Rosie entered the Charms classroom and settled herself down into a seat. She was happy to have lessons today since it would help her stay distracted from all the problems she had in her life right now. Rosie can't afford to let herself become depressed and in a hole, if her grades suffered then she'd be in a much worse shape than she was right now. Maybe when class was over with, she could hunt Bryce down and spill her heart out to him. Or Erik, both of them were pretty good listeners. Soon the classroom was filled up with students, and Professor Barnard started the day's charms lesson. Rosie wondered what they were going to practice or learn today. Rosie liked the idea of learning a new charm. It was like buying a new pair of pants or something. Apparently today, they were going to be going over the cheering charm. "Huh, how ironic." Rosie thought to herself, clearly amused by how ironic today had just become. Her parents' divorce had made Rosie a bit blue, and now they were going to be using the cheering charm. Rosie wondered if it was actually going to help her out though, she was feeling awful bad. The Professor told the class to get their wands out, and Rosie had done just that. They were told the incantation and then were told to practice on one another. "Want to pair up?" Rosie signed to Bryce, quickly. Rosie and Bryce practiced it several times, and by the end of class, she was actually feeling a lot better. Rosie knew it was the charm causing her to feel like this, but she was still feeling pretty could. After writing down her homework assignment, Rosie left the classroom with a smile on her face. The second week was normally a long week for the third year Gryffindor. Nikandros Matthias did not really want to attend anymore classes for a while, but he knew that he did not have much of a choice if he wanted to be able to get the grades that he desired so much. He wanted to have his dad notice him, and he hoped that one day, he would notice the Gryffindor to some extent anyway. Could that really happen though? Could Nikandros really become someone that would be worth noticing? If he continued to pick on people, he probably would not but he needed something to soothe over the fact that he was constantly bored. The school did not have much to offer him anymore except a lifetime of utter misery. Well, not a lifetime but seven long years of it. Settling into the seat in the classroom, Nikandros hoped that the day would go by quickly. Professor Barnard greeted the class and said that they were going to be learning the Cheering charm today and he wondered why in the world would they bother learning about that. The cheering charm did just that, cheered people up. Like he would ever find a use for that! He would never want to cheer anyone up in his life. They were informed on how the spell came to be, and he laughed a bit about the name. apparently too much happiness can be bad. Must have been what some of the professors around here went through since they were so tuned in on teaching and happy from it. He took out his wand and they were told the wand movement. He wanted to pair up with Rosie Reilly but that deaf kid got there first. So he paired up with someone else. He intoned the spell over his partner and then the partner was hilariously happy. Then it happened to him, and he ended up leaving in the best mood ever.

Damon Kyle looked forward to the semester even more. The second week only gave him more hopes and also looked forward to the holiday ahead. He was going to spend time with his newfound family, and hoped that he would have a mom soon. He really wanted a nurturing mom. He knew that his new dad would have to find someone to marry him, but it would take some time since he thought that Benjamen might often give out the wrong impression (and he had no idea how right he was). Damon walked into the classroom and he found his seat near some friends of his. He did not make many friends yet but he was working on it, thankfully. He had so much to give them! He knew so much about the muggle world, since he was raised in it, he could give everyone some information on it! It would be great! The class of third years, as big as they were, were welcomed to the second week of charms, and they were going to be learning the Cheering Charm. Damon almost clapped his hands in excitement but he did not do so since he thought that he would look silly if he had. They were told what he charm would do, and he smiled even more. He liked this charm a lot. They were told about who invented the charm, or tumbled across it. The man went mad after using it too much, and he wondered how someone could go crazy from madness. He took out his wand and intoned the incantation without using the swish and flick. Then they were told to pair up so that they could practice. That sounded like fun! He paired up with a friend of his, and he asked to have it cast on him first. Amazingly, it did not change much about him, then he used it on his partner, which it changed them quite a bit. He grinned even more and they were free to leave!

It was now the second week of lessons for the young Ravenclaw and Bryce Chamberlin was ready to begin the week ahead. There were multiple classes that he needed anyhow. Some of them were boring while the others were exciting. At least he had Roo along with him at all points during his education at the school. He needed someone there in case he missed something in a lesson. So far he had been doing pretty well. Bryce sighed as he entered the classroom and he found his seat, always reserved next to his best friend. He had other friends, but he liked it more when he sat down next Rosie. She seemed to understand him more than anyone else. Bryce settled into his seat and he looked ahead at the professor, waiting for the lips to move so that he could read the lecture. It was almost there, thankfully. The new professor that he was not used to started to speak so Bryce started to read, hoping that they would not have that big of a day today. The History of Magic lesson had him wanting to go to sleep with all of that reading. Bryce made sure that he had read that right. They were going to be learning the Cheering charm? It was a charm to make someone really happy which made him roll his eyes a bit. He was not that happy about it, but he would be by the time the lesson was over. He took notes over the history of the charm. He put the notes away when they were told that they would be pairing up and practicing. Roo asked him if he wanted to pair up with her and he gladly agreed to it. By the time the end of the class came along, they were both pretty happy since the cheering charm worked really well. Bryce packed up and left with a broad smile on those features.

Sergei Zhefarovich walked into the classroom and he found his seat in the back of the classroom as per usual. He hated the classes that he was in now, and there was not much he could do. His dad would be all over him if he had skipped classes like he constantly thought that he should do when it came down to History of Magic and Astronomy, at the very least. Charms was all right though, so he would tolerate that for now. Sergei settled into his seat and he moved the black hair from his sliver eyes. He did not know where that trait of his came from, but it was certainly a good one. There was only so much one could do for the day, and he hoped that they were not going to be doing anything that would make him fall asleep. He looked at the other third years in here before he rolled his stormy eyes. Sighing, this was just not beginning enough for him. Professor Barnard greeted the classroom and much to the horror of Sergei, they were going to be learning about the most useless charm in the world. The cheering charm? Who on earth would want to learn about something as stupid as that? Sergei rolled those eyes of his as he heard how the charm came to be, by some man that was depressed. Well, that was utterly pathetic. He turned to magic to cure his depression and went mad. Who would have thought. Now they had to pair up and practice with the spell. Sighing, he paired up with another Slytherin once they were free to. He cast it first, and then had some amusement with the person’s behavior. He protested when the student tried to cast the charm on him, and then it worked. Sergei was in a good mood, and it was incredible to actually see him without a scowl on his fast as he left once dismissed.

Tybalt was looking forward to charms this year, a small glance through his book for the class had spiked his curiousity. He wasn't sure what they would be doing, in what order, he had lost the list from the last class, and so it would be interesting to him to find out. The boy was however struggling that morning. Following a late night quidditch session, in relative darkness, the teen had gone to bed late, and come the morning felt exhausted. Ty made a point of flying at least five or six days out of seven. On top of the real training that they did. Mostly because he felt he wasn't good enough and needed to. But, it wasn't great for the amount of classes he did. He was exhausted, but people didn't need, exhausted, boring Ty. They wanted fun, full of life, excitable Ty who ran around, never stopping long enough on any one thing. After a long struggle with staying awake the teen finally managed to get himself out of bed. He showered and got ready slowly. Not rushing anything that didn't need to be rushed. Just doing things at a slow pace as he grew slightly more awake as the morning progressed. Eventually, the teen was awake, and ready enough to go to the classroom. He made sure he had his wand with him, and then left the room. Heading straight for the charms classroom, which was not overly far away. The class was relatively empty when he arrived. He wandered to his seat and then pulled out his books and his wand. It was a small wait for the rest to appear, but everyone did. He smiled to himself slightly. Watching as B sat down at the front of the room. Really wishing that she would sit closer to him, that they could sit closer to one another, in at least one classroom. Just one. But, both had thought against it. Too risky, and this was a class that Josefina was technically in. So, he couldn't exactly risk that. However, soon the lesson got underway and the teen was writing down what was being said. This charm might prove useful to him, right now. So, once he had everything written down, he paired up with his best friend, and began practicing the charm. The charm itself was pretty easy, when he cast it he was pretty sure he got it first time. Or well, she had described it as hitting her, then when it was her turn he couldn't help but be surprised by how great it made him feel. Such an oddly good spell, he came to think. Once both he and her had successfully completed the spell, it was time to leave. The teen hurriedly gathered his things and then left the room. Walking down to the Great Hall for something to eat. As Preston continued to eat the banana in his hand, he realized that he was always eating on his way to this class. For some reason, he always managed to oversleep on the day that Charms lessons were to be held. As he stepped in, Preston dropped the peel in the trash before making his way to his seat right in front of Tybalt. People would probably notice if he suddenly changed his seat since there were only a few empty seats once all of the students arrived. The Slytherin couldn’t help but notice that there was one seat not yet filled. He was a bit surprised that Indiana hadn’t walked in with Tybalt. The two were hardly ever apart, he noted with an eye roll. As class finally began, Preston paid attention. Cheering Charms. That sounded rather interesting. Copying down a couple of notes on the history of the Charms creation, Preston thought about whether this charm was a good thing or a bad thing. Surely, forcing someone into cheer wasn’t good. It wasn’t true cheer if it was forced, was it? As the professor explained what had become of Summerbee, Preston nodded to himself. He’d been right. No good could come from forcing someone to be cheerful. Watching as the professor demonstrated the charm, Preston sat back in his seat, his feet on the bar that belonged to the chair in front of him. That was how he normally sat in classes unless he was in Professor Styx’s class. He was afraid of losing housepoints for doing that. Removing his wand from his bag, Preston practiced the swish and flick motion. By now, he was pretty sure he had it down. “Exhilaro” he mumbled under his breath, the word sounding a bit strange on his tongue. As they were set to practice, Preston wasn’t surprised to see the two Gryffindors behind him pair off. He strolled over to one of his Slytherin roommates. Choosing to be hit with the charm first was a mistake. As soon as it hit him, Preston broke out into the widest grin ever. He felt amazing, like everything had gone right in the world. He chuckled aloud as it was his turn. Seeing his roommate with a grin was going to be fun. With a swish and flick, Preston clearly said “Exhilaro.” For one of the first times, Preston hit the mark on his first try. The grin on his face widened as he saw the difference in his friend’s face. “We look like a bunch of idiots” he stated good-naturedly before returning to his desk to pack his bags.

Indiana sort of rolled out bed the morning of the Charms lesson. She was of course excited for another lesson, but she was also in a mood. Probably her sister would say waking up on the wrong side of the bed. She bumbled as she went to the bathroom to get herself ready for class. Not feeling the most excited at all, Quidditch practiced drained her the day having pushed herself to her limits on purpose. The girl tried not to worry about class too much. It would be interesting she told herself, whatever it was that they would learn. Heading to the classroom she settled in the back with her best friend like every class. But she wondered as she waited for the class to begin if he wanted to ever sit by someone else. She wasn't sure if he did, they hadn't ever talked about things like that. It was mostly Quidditch and such. They learned that day about the Cheering Charm and the crazy mad man who invented the charm and ended up going crazy from using it too much, it made her nervous about the spell. Did she really want it to be used on? Would she get addicted to the spell? Indiana listened to the Professor as she told them to pair off. She glanced over towards the place Preston was sitting. Knowing he might want to be paired with her, but Tybalt asked her first. Looking at her best friend she couldn't say no and noticed Preston paired up with a Slytherin anyways. Smiling Indiana knew it wasn't one that really looked like a smile she prepared herself as Tybalt began to work out casting the charm. Finally he got it right and it hit her. She felt ten times better than she had before, a real smile on her face. "Wow, that feels incredible, I understand why the inventor went crazy wanting to use it so much," she said once Tybalt had hit her with correctly. Then it was her time. She worked over the motion of the wand first and then finally tried casting it on her best friend. She saw the smile before he even said anything and she had gotten it right, just in time as the class was soon dismissed with homework to do.

Josefina wasn't sure about the next class she would be attending. Charms was interesting and she always felt like she must be better at the actual performance of spells than her sister, which made her hopeful for a lesson in actually doing something, instead of listening to lectures like History of Magic all seemed to be. Strolling into the class the girl sat down in the seat she had been in during the previous lesson. It wasn't very hard to see that she didn't have many friends in the classroom. Not that she mind really. Listening to the Professor, Josefina gathered in her head that they would be performing the spell, which made her excited but also upset. It didn't seem like spell she really wanted to be cast upon her. What need was it to be happy, to be cheerful. That sort of mood wasn't very fun for the girl. When told to pair off Josefina instantly went to her sister. She hadn't spoken to the younger girl in a long time. Not since the beginning of the school year at least. Mostly because she didn't hold any interest to her. But she wanted to reinforce her dominance of course. She let the charm be cast upon her first knowing full well it was probably something her sister had wished for for years. It did make her feel better, more smiley. Which mirror her sister's smile perfectly. Raising her wand her head was full of butterflies and unicorns and she missed her first shot at her sister. It wasn't till the second she actually got the girl perfectly. A smile was on both their faces as they left the room. She hoped however, despite her nice demeanor now her sister knew that she wouldn't be this nice forever. |

Swish and Flick. That was what ran through Bituin's head the second half of class. The day had started out pretty normally. Of course she was excited for another class with Tybalt. Her sister being in this one she knew she couldn't lead on to being anything but friendly with the boy her sister used to bully pretty badly. But she still got to see his smile and possibly a wave from him. It always made her day brighter. Smiling as she got ready in the Ravenclaw tower, Bituin soon found herself in the classroom of Charms learning about the cheering charm. She wished she was in the back of the class with Tybalt. She had half a mind to begin sitting with Indiana and Tybalt in the back. Though she wasn't sure how well she'd be able to concentrate being so close to him. The second half of class, the practical part was something of a blur to her. She had planned on partnering with one of the other Ravenclaws or maybe even one of the Hufflepuffs. But sister got to her first. The glare in her eyes were more than enough to keep Bituin from running to another partner. She was surprised however when Josefina asked to go first, to be the person who would get cheered up. Bituin agreed, her mind in a daze. Half from shock and the part of her in fright. Swish and flick and say the spell at the same time. She managed the spell and was surprised by the smile on Josie's face. Bituin hadn't seen it since last summer when they were swimming and joking around, just the two of them. No one to bother them, no one else to think about. It always seemed like the only time her sister was truly happy. She stood still as she waited for the spell to be cast upon her. It made her smile despite the fear instead her heart, and the longing. Longing for Tybalt and for the sister she had at the beach to be there everyday, instead of the girl who was present at the school.
