Effie was oddly tired and worn out this morning, she had tried turning in early last night because she knew she had classes for the Fifth Years in the morning. But no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn’t fall asleep and ended up tossing and turning around all night. Professor Snow offered a small smile to the kids that greeted her, even if she was in a bad mood she didn’t want to be rude to anyone that wasn’t deserving of it. ”During your first year of study you used your first name during your intial experiences with using the Pythagorean Number System. You were told sometime later this work had been a test of your ability to use the system and that the results were insignificant and should be disregarded as they were not related to the core elements that we would be studying.” Professor Snow surveyed their faces closely as she watched some of them react to what she had just told them, she hadn’t been around to teach them the past two previous years so this introduction didn’t mean as much to her as it would have if she had taught them previous to this year. ”Were now going to discuss the Growth Number and its direct relationship with our given name." She said after a moment, her voice soft and tired sounding. Effie could hear the rustling paper so she assumed the students were either going to take notes or were flipping through their books. ”Our First Name is how people typically address us and as a result, it should be no surprise that it holds within it special qualities. Our First Name is a repeated vibration--a mantra in a sense--that declares an intention each time it is voiced. So what makes the First Name stand out from the whole name? It is our "personal name" and it is as essential to the relationship we have with ourselves as it is with the way we connect to other people. Its tone is declared over and over again." Professor Snow paced the room as she spoke, trying to get her own thoughts together to explain this easily. She had tried many of these lessons based on her own life, and even some of her own family members. "In describing the relationship of our First, Middle, and Last Names in Arithmancy, we could say that the First Name represents our personal self. It also sets us apart from other members of our family. It holds within it a Growth Number, a vibration that supports us in a deep expression of our individual nature. Often we see evidence of this energy in our private lives." Our Middle Name serves to support and reinforce our identity and is thought to be more hidden within the self. Our Last Name carries within it the collective vibration of our family. Its numerical sum represents our family traits, inherited qualities, and what you might call our family makeup. It also represents our more formal nature." Effie smiled at the students, man of them now were probably curious about their own names as well. Pulling out her wand and aiming it at the board she watched as some notes appeared that she figured would be useful for the students in this lesson.
”For homework this week I would like for you to calculate your Growth Number which means you will have to use your number chats once again, class dismissed.” Effie smiled and waved them off, class today was luckily more easy on them than last weeks, so hopefully none of them were going to complain about having homework. I N S T R U C T I O N S: 1) Roleplay the lesson 2) Complete the calculations with your first name required to determine your Growth Number, find the characteristics of the number on the Number Chart. Proserpina Laurent was definitely ready for yet another lesson in Arithmancy. The class itself seemed amazing and it reminded her of math. She was somewhat good in it, but she was not totally sure. Proserpina was really good right now anyway. She was good with her name and seeing that they were going to be going over more things to do with the name, she was certain. Last time she learned that her name was not above all norms with the letters which she believed before filling out the chart. She knew that her sister’s might have been above normal at some point, but she did not do her sister’s name. That might be something that she should do one day when she had some free time after the OWLs. The OWLs were really tough for her. Even the Charms subject was tough for her but the only one that was coming easier to her was Arithmancy. That was the only one. They were reminded of the Pythagorean number system from a while back, which brought some memories to Proserpina’s mind. She could remember it, both in terms of Arithmancy but also in math too! Although the wording of Professor Snow kind of had her lost, but then a few moments later, she understood it for the most part. They were also going to be handling the growth number, and the relationship of the given name. The growth number went by the first name only, and it is our personal name, as it is the way to connect with other people. She wondered what about those weird people that use last names to get the other’s attention. The middle name supports the identity though. And the last name carries the vibration of the family makeup. That seemed like fun! She looked at the board and she wrote down the notes that were needed for her anyway. They had to calculate their growth number and then they were dismissed. Proserpina gathered her things and she left the classroom.
