Lesson 5

Professor Snow elegantly made her way into the Arithmancy classroom, she was a bit later than usual but that was merely because she was being a bit spacey that morning and misplaced all of her lesson plans and notes. The looks on some of the students faces pretty much told her that they weren’t happy she was late; to which she gave them a meek smile and stood in front of her desk before she sighed a breath of relied and leaned against her desk. With a curt greet she decided she wouldn’t dawdle on today’s lesson and immediately began her lecture "Have you ever felt a habit or a repeated pattern emerge in your life that was hard to identify? That despite your best efforts to stop it, that it continued to occur over and over?" Professor Snow figured that this had to happen to at least one person around here, in fact it sort of reminded her of her brother and his dark fate. A small appeared up on Effie’s lips as her different colored eyes carefully scanned the classroom.

"If so, then the Habit Challenge may shed some light on this subject. The Habit Challenge is just what is sounds like--a habit we feel challenged by which is usually negative. Because all numbers have a polarity as well as a balanced state, the Habit Challenge is usually experienced in one of the extremes rather than a balanced vibration. Our challenge is to bring it into balance, thus allowing the habit to become a positive and empowering force in our lives, otherwise we may find ourselves distracted by stress, confusion, and insecurity."

The Habit Challenge is found by adding up the number of letters in your given names. For example, my full name is Effie Monique Snow.”
Professor Snow pulled out her wand and let some writing appear up on the board, hopefully the first part of adding together the letters of the name part would be easy for the fifth years to recognize or do seeing as it was something they ended up doing quite often in Arithmancy.

Quote:

Effie Monique Snow
5 letters + 7 letters + 4 letters = 16 letters
1 + 6 = 7

This means I have a Habit Challenge of 7

7 Habit Challenge - Individuality:

Under-balanced - disregarded, superficial, undeveloped
Over-balanced - resentful, hypercritical, secretive

If responding in an under-balanced expression, it can act in over-analytical and critical ways and can even become cut off from its own deep feelings. An over-balanced response can become very detached, shut people out, and hold onto resentment

The odd part was, for Effie this was completely and utterly true. Arithmancy was always full of such surprises that it always amused her to see the reactions of students when it’s finding’s were correct. ”You can see that not achieving balance in the area of your Habit Challenge may lead to difficulties in many aspects of your life. For today, I would simply like you to determine what your Habit Challenge. Please refer to the text for additional information. You are dismissed." Professor Snow figured the assignment wasn’t hard but would be around for questions regardless. The page they would need to help them was in their textbook as well so it’s not like she’s leaving them completely out on a limb here.
