Professor Davershire stook at the front of the classroom next to her desk watching as the students filed into the room. She smiled as she saw all of the first years, their faces showing how excited they were to learn, or in turn, how annoyed they were to be in class. Once everyone was seated, she moved forwards, greeting them with a smile. "Hello! Welcome first years! This is Transfiguration. I hope you all are in the right classroom." She looked about the room, making sure no one stood to leave. "My name is Professor Ava Davershire and I will, hopefully, successfully guide you through the world of Transfiguration. Throughout your first year, we are going to cover Inanimate to Inanimate transfiguration; this kind of transfiguration can only be used to make something of equal size, like a needle to a match, for example. You will soon see I believe in hands on leaning, so please make sure you bring your wand to every lesson." She looked around the class and noticed a few students who look sheepishly down. "A little about myself; I attended Hogwarts here, and was in Gryffindor. I excelled in transfiguration, but used to home school my daughter. Eventually we decided to let her come here, and I followed, taking up a role in the class I loved so much. I have two children both of which has graduated from here." she said smiling at them all. She loved Riley and Braxton dearly. "I am also a registered animagus, which you will learn more details about as your studies progress. But basically, I am able to transfigure myself into an animal at will." Suddenly, Professor Davershire turned into a Golden Retriever with big blue eyes, that matched her own. She jumped up on the desk and sat at the edge, looking at everyone, then just as quickly, turned back into herself, still sitting on the desk. "Okay, to get started. Transfiguration is not just the name of changing one object into another. You must have an idea about all types of transfiguration before you actually learn them," she said with a flick of her wand at the blackboard. The following was now written there:
"First off, I want to also give you some vocabulary. Inanimate means that the object is not alive. Animate, well, is something that is alive. You are all here, and most of you seem to be animate today, which is a good thing. Some of you could be a bit more animate though." Professor Davershire chuckled as she walked about, tapping on a desk or two of those in the back who seemed to be dosing off. "Let's jump right in and discuss the first four types of Transfiguration. Inanimate to Inanimate simply changes one object that is not alive into another object that is not alive. Most of the time, these are easiest to perform. Inanimate objects will stay put while you cast your spell, leaving you to worry only about changing shape, color, size, and things of that nature," Professor Davershire flicked her wand at a vase on the table that changed into a teacup. "The second type of transfiguration is Inanimate to Animate." Ava flicked her wand again, this time at her chair. It shook a few times, then it started shrinking while changing its shape at the same time. Suddenly, everyone saw a fluffy little kitten that walked around the class, mewing softly, before it finally cuddled against the feet of one of the students. "It wasn't supposed to do that," Professor Davershire said with a laugh, leaving it at the student's feet. "Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration changes one nonliving object into one living object. They are tricky to pull off, since you must essentially give life to something that would ordinarily not have it. The third type," she turned toward the class and continued, "Animate to Inanimate, performs in the opposite manner of the Inanimate to Animate ones. You will use these spells to turn something that moves and breathes into something that is no longer technically alive," she said. "The fourth type of transfiguration is Animate to Animate Transfiguration. This is one of the most difficult types of transfiguration. This transfiguration changes one animate, alive, living object into another animate, alive, living object. Since we don't have a live object here for me to use to demonstrate, I will show you these transfigurations some other time. So we end our lesson here today. And now, like a terrible Professor, you have homework on your first day," Professor Davershire said grinning and waved her wand at the board, making the homework appear. Homework: RP the lesson. Extra Credit: Choose one of the types of transfiguration and write about either a real myth or a legend where one thing was transformed into another (or you can make a story up.) |

Angelo woke up early because she was excited about today's class. Surprisingly, Angelo Pacis was early for class. He already had his breakfast in advance, along with his newly ironed uniform and robes. He got himself ready and packed the things he needed for class. Ge entered the classroom and took a seat. They were greeted by their professor who introduced herself as Professor Davershire. He listened to what the professor had to say about her self before he brought out her quill, parchment and ink to write his notes.Professor Davershire had started the lesson on Transfiguration and angelo had started to write down his notes. He had been listening to the discussion while hurrying in writing.
Angelo looked at his notes and nodded at the written words. he looked at the Professor again and nodded when she mentioned they had homework. Angelo frowned as he thought about it before getting up and heading to the library to attend to his homework.
After doing his homework, Angelo handed his homework over to Professor Davershire and left the room. |

Hayley was uncertain as to how she would get on with transfiguration, but she was certainly looking forward to trying out her first lesson. Her imagination ran wild as she dreamt up what wonders lay in wait throughout this next lesson. Of course, she had to convince herself not to hope for too much. After all, they were just first years with little knowledge of the subject. It would be a long while until they were turning cats into cardigans. She waited in her seat in silence as the professor began the lesson, welcoming the class and revealing unto them her name. She sounded friendly enough, and Hayley found herself smiling up at Professor Davershire. Inanimate to inanimate, Hayley thought, racking her brain to the transfiguration book she had brushed over. That meant non-living items, didn't it? Something, perhaps, along the lines of turning a cup into a hat. Although, according to Landon, that could be done without the aid of transfiguration. It was strange to think her older brother had already been here and passed through the school, only a few years earlier. He had grown to become a prefect, and then Head Boy. Hayley wondered if she could muster the same great feat. She doubted it. Her thirst for knowledge combined with her lack of care for breaking a few rules in aid of learning more, were bound to amount to a lethal combination. It would be inevitable. Hayley was shaken back to life as the professor leapt onto the desk- no, not the professor. A dog. She transformed back almost immediately. It was a surprise, but truly fascinating. Maybe if she worked hard enough at the subject, Hayley would someday master that art. Hayley listened closely to the remainder of the lesson, making lots of mental and physical notes about it. At the end of the lesson, she wrote down the homework. She would do it in the library during her next break. She slipped her bag over her shoulder and left amongst the rest of the class. |

Bryce Chamberlin found that today was the class for Transfiguration, a class that he would love to make spells with. Though he is not too sure that he would be able to do as well. Speaking spells, that would be something else because he wouldn't know how he would learn to pronounce it. However he would have to make do. Bryce entered the classroom to see the Headmistress, and he could tell that there were others in here already, and he took his seat to wait for the friends that he had made while he was here. He liked having friends, because he felt better when he was in class. They would help him out if he couldn't get everything down. He was seated close to the front, so he waited patiently. Bryce soon looked up and kept his eye on the Headmistress, and once she started to talk, he could tell that they were beginning the lesson with the introduction. He now knew what her first name was. Ava. But he knew that her name was Professor Davershire. They were going to be covering, what he could read, inanimate to inanimate Transfiguration? That was what he thought that he had read, but he would have to see what they would be doing later on. Apparently they would have to bring in a wand every class period. The professor told a little bit about herself, which he listened to but he did not mind it too much anyway. He simply kept his eyes on her lips so that he could see what she was saying. There was also her saying that she was a registered Animagus. That was pretty cool. And then she turned into a dog in front of everyone, before turning back. Now the lesson was really beginning like it wasn't before. The blackboard suddenly had words on it, and he looked over at it, before he got out his notes. He might miss a little of what she was saying, but he would have to deal with it. He watched her lips as he wrote down the definitions of all of the words and types of transfiguration down onto the parchment. She even demonstrated with turning a chair into a kitten. That was good anyway. After all that was done, they were soon dismissed. He packed his things and left the classroom. |

Damon Kyle entered the Transfiguration classroom where he saw a bright, happy professor that was also the Headmistress of the school. He took a seat close to the front of the classroom because he was excited on what he might learn today. It was just something that he wanted to do, and that was perform magic. He had not really used any spells yet, and he was growing anxious. But what was Transfiguration? He didn't know what it was, and he wanted to know soon enough. After everyone was seated, they were greeted by the professor, and they were told that her name was Professor Davershire. One of the things they were going to be covering this year was Inanimate to Inanimate Transfiguration, but he did not know what that actually meant. Though when she said something along the lines of a needle to a match, he found out that Transfiguration was transforming one thing into another. Professor Davershire told a bit about herself, that was about her education and that she was in Gryffindor, and that she had two children that were graduated. Then she went on to say that she was an Animagus but he didn't know what it was. But then she explained what it basically meant. She then turned into a dog in front of them. Damon was suddenly super impressed. The words for each type of transfiguration was placed onto the board. Damon thought that it would be best if he wrote the things down, which he did. Though he found the one with Inanimate to Animate Transfiguration was the best one. Though each type was transfigured and demonstrated, he felt that the coolest one was the one where the kitten came to life from a chair. Though it was not supposed to do that apparently. Once more, they were dismissed after being given some homework. He wrote it down, and he soon left the classroom. Damon found himself looking forward to this. |

Josefina was glad that she had another class without her older sister. She had already been mistaken for her a few times in the hall being asked why she had slapped a Gryffindor in the face. The young Ravenclaw had been surprised the first time it was asked but realized it was just her older sister getting into something once again. Josefina was quite a bully when she wanted to be, but Bituin managed to stay on her good side most days. Walking into the Transfiguration class she smiled at the Professor while her way to a seat. She noticed her friend Bryce was already there and waved at him. She was going to make sure she wrote down everything the Professor said once again in this class. Before the Professor even began to speak Bituin already had her quill and parchment ready.
It seemed like the class was over sooner than she thought it would be. She liked this Professor, she just breezed right through the material. Letting them go with an assignment for homework Bituin headed off. She wasn't sure how easy the homework was going to be and decided to head straight to the library to complete it. Homework

Emalia slowly made her way to the Transfiguration Classroom. She was following other First Years, but kept her distance from them. The young Ravenclaw hadn't made any friends as of yet, but it didn't bother her at all. She was here to learn, and she would learn everything she could. Her brown eyes scanned the area, drawing a mental picture in her head to remember how to get there. She hated having to rely on other people. Transfiguration was a subject she was looking forward to. It was one that she was sure would help her in the future; as well as Defence Against the Dark Arts and Charms. Emalia was also very much looking forward to History of Magic as well. It interested her a lot, but those classes were only next semester. Once in the classroom, Emalia took a seat near the front. She quickly got out her quill and some parchment, ready to learn. Emalia had already seen the Professor at the Sorting Ceremony - she was the Headmistress. It didn't faze the Ravenclaw, especially since she seemed like a loving lady. Her brothers had of course informed her that Davershire had expelled two students, but looking at her, Emalia could hardly imagine she would. The young girl shook her head and concentrated. She listened carefully to everything Davershire said; she didn't want to miss a single word. Her hand moved smoothly across the parchment, writing down the important things said; she wanted to make sure she had enough notes so that by the time exams came around, she would ace them. Her favourite part in the class was definitely when the kitten came alive and curled by another's feet. Also, being an Animagus seemed fantastic - definitely something Emalia would love to do. Em sighed at the fact of more homework, but wrote it down anyway, making her way to the library to work once again. |

Bradley Larton was not looking forward to Transfiguration. He'd been putting off leaving for the class as long as he could, but since he wasn't actually going to boycott it he sighed, picked up his bag and left the common room. Transfiguration sounded like an idiotic excuse to do magic for the sake of it, with no actual reason for doing so. When his mother had explained the subject to him, she'd thrown her hat into the sky and changed it into a bird, to show him one of the exciting things he'd one day be able to do. But all Brad thought of were the Muggle magicians who used sleight of hand to trick their audience, to make themselves seem more impressive. It was all just gaudy party tricks. He reached the classroom and stepped inside, looking for an empty seat. His eyes grazed past the professor, but quickly snapped back when he realised that he knew her. This was Professor Davershire, the headmistress! He hadn't known that and he inwardly groaned. Trust his luck that the one class he was likely to hate with a passion was going to be taught by someone really important. Brad kind of collapsed into his seat and put his head in his hands. I'm not saying I've had a bad week, but this sucks. He heard the professor began talking and he reluctantly pulled his head up to listen to what she was saying. Inanimate to Inanimate transfiguration... bring wand to every lesson... This just gets better and better. He hadn't even taken out his parchment yet, so he stopped listening for a moment and busied himself with that. When he looked up again he almost dropped his things all over the floor in shock. There was a dog sitting on the desk! While he was still trying to process that, the dog suddenly turned into Professor Davershire. Brad was left sitting there gaping, shell-shocked. No one had ever mentioned anything like that before! He was a bit repulsed by the idea actually, he didn't like dogs. Throughout the rest of the lesson, Brad took vague notes, desperately wishing for time to go faster so he could just get out of there. Before she dismissed them, the professor outlined their homework, but he decided not to do it because it didn't look like it was important to the lesson, and besides, he'd had enough. One of the first people out the door, Brad hurried to get as far away from the class as possible. Notes

Lexan looked in the mirror. He hated his uniform, but he wasn't a fashionista, either. he would of much rather wore jeans and a t-shirt to class every day. He grabbed his satchel. Walking to the fifth floor, he opened the door to his Transfiguration class and looked around. It was just another classroom, another day, but something about the subject of transfiguration interested him. He took a seat in the middle and looked up once the Professor started talking. Lexan really liked Professor Davershire's name. It sounded cool as a whole. He thought for a moment about what turning a needle into a match would feel like. He hadn't done much magic since getting here, neither successful at that. When Professor Davershire announced the statement about bringing their wands to every lesson, Lexan felt the inside of his robes quickly, a worried look on his face, and then sighed in relief. It was still there. The little biography about herself intrigued Lexan a bit. Homeschooling must have been awesome. Her daughter must have had alot of fun. Hogwarts Scotland, at that. He wasn't one to judge, but he squirmed a little uncomfortably in his seat at the thought of it. Two kids, huh. Professor Davershire seemed to like kids, which was a good thing. Lexan wasn't quite sure what an Animagus was, but he was interested to find out. At the same time, he saw the human form of his professor disappear as it became replaced by a dog, and then again, was replaced by his professor. Lexan gave a small gasp and smiled. This subject was definitely going to be interesting to study. Lexan took his quil and began to take notes when they appeared on the board.

{Sorry, I originally posted this in the wrong topic }Rowley was humming happily to herself as she slipped into the classroom, one of the first to arrive, and chose a desk in the front row. She was easing in to lessons nicely and had enjoyed her first few thoroughly, so was looking forward to Transfiguration. She knew they wouldn't be doing much as it was their first lesson, as with all the other classes it would most likely be the going over of rules and guidelines and an introduction to the subject, but today that suited her nicely as she knew pretty much squat all about Transfiguration. She noticed that there Professor, sat behind her desk waiting for the class to fill, was also the Headmistress, or deputy Headmistress, she was sure her correct title was. Rowley gave her a bright smile as she began unpacking her writing equipment before stowing her satchel underneath her desk. Once everyone appeared to be present, the Headmistress began, introducing herself as Professor Davershire and telling them all a little about herself and how she'd come to teaching her favourite subject at Hogwarts New Zealand. Rowley couldn't help but smile, her brown eyes full of interest, she seemed like such a nice, power woman. It was a nice change, all of her Professors so far had been men. Her eyes widened in respected admirance as there Professor transformed herself into a Labrador without so much as a flick of her wand, before returning to her usual form. An animagus, Rowley thought, that looks very fun. She made a mental note to look into this later on. Professor Davershire waved her wand and all of the different forms of Transfiguration appeared on the blackboard. There were so many, this year they would be focusing solely on inanimate to inanimate Transfiguration. Turning inanimate objects into similar inanimate objects. Inanimate means non living.. ? Rowley thought to herself, before the teacher answered and confirmed this aloud. Nice, she thought, dipping her fluffy black quill into her current favourite green ink, and starting to take notes as the Professor began explaining.
This left Rowley wondering wether turning an animate object into an inanimate object would in a way kill it, take its life. Like if you were to turn a person into a teapot, would that person still be alive within the teapot? She decided she would need to ask the Professor this at a later time. Sitting her quill down, Rowley returned her attention to Professor Davershire as she concluded the lesson and assigned them some light homework. Packing up her things, she filed out of the classroom along with the others, headed to her common room. She had no more classes that day, and used her free time before lunch to complete her homework, returning to the empty classroom within the hour to leave it atop the professors desk.

After a few days at Hogwarts, Alex was already beginning to settle in nicely. His 'commute' time had lessened, thanks to the time he'd spent 'scouting ahead,' in his free time. He was happy. He loved waking up, high above the ground in the Ravenclaw Tower, and seeing the sun rise from the other side of the earth. Him liking it truly made him realize what a strange boy he was, but he still loved it. Not only that, but his room was comfy. The blue four-poster beds were just as good, if not better, than what he had slept on in Wellington. Crisp mornings didn't matter. It was brilliant. And, now, he was going to his most anticipated class... transfiguration. He entered the classroom just behind a pair of girls, giggling to eachother, and sat down on a desk lit up by filtered sunlight from the high windows. It was, truly, perfect; the sun shone directly onto his neck, but not in such a large area it covered his parchment, making him have a hard time reading and writing, just so he stayed warm and optimistic. Sun does that to people. Alex found himself grinning as he saw his new professor transform into a dog. He wished he could be a -- what did she call it? Animagus some day. But he wondered whether he chose the animal, or if it would reflect his personality or something. He didn't want to be a fish, or maybe a fly. He'd choose something completely opposite of him, something that wouldn't be afraid to stand out. A hawk, or maybe a lion. Or a kea, or kaka, because they were just cool birds. This was the first lesson where Alex had already prepared his quill and parchment for writing; he had resolved he'd probably be writing for every class anyway. And, he was getting better at writing with a quill, and gotten used to the scratching noise. He was getting used to everything at Hogwarts. Though, he did miss actually talking to someone, his mother... But he'd survive, providing he'd eventually make friends.
Quite proud with both his quick writing, and his new format, Alex sat back, and began thinking about his homework. He could think of one, Greek, or Roman, he thought, about a woman being turned into a spider... He'd think about it more later.
