Takuya observed the students coming in from behind the desk. Mandrakes were perhaps one of favorite things to observe, and to plant. They were unpredictable. As soon as the students were sitting down, and softly chatting among themselves, Takuya raised his hand for silence. He said in his usual bubbly tone, "Today, you will be planting your Mandrake. We are working in Greenhouse three, so steer clear of the plants here. They don’t like to be messed with." He smirked a bit. On the table in front of the students were large, clay pots, potting tools, watering cans and the small pots of Mandrakes. "Feel honored that each of you will have your own Mandrake." Takuya stood up and walked around the class. "Follow my instructions exactly the way I say them." His voice lowered, "Do not harm your Mandrake, you else you will get an automatic T. I do not take violence very well in my class." He continued, with a smile, "Mandrakes fancy damp soil, shade to sunlight, and an occasional food. Remember to take proper care of them." Takuya walked back over to the desk and leaned against it to observe all the students. He instructed, "Put on your Dragonhide gloves and your work robes and we shall begin." Takuya put on his gloves also. "I will demonstrate for you. However, before I demonstrate, I will verbally tell you what we are about to do. First, you will grasp the leaves of your Mandrake gently, yet firm. Then tug them upwards. Your Mandrake will come out of the small pot, and then you will transfer them into the large pot already filled with dirt, put them in, plant the dirt around them and give them some water. And that’s it. Watch me. Put your earmuffs on." He waited patiently for everyone to have them on. "Their cry is pretty strident. So, make sure you have them on correctly." Takuya put his on and made sure it was in place. He did everything he had ordered them to do. And eventually, the Mandrake rested comfortably in the large pot, dozing off. His Mandrake was rather small but vociferous. Takuya took off his gloves and went to sit behind the desk, watching as the students began to work on their mandrakes. Homework: RP today's lesson. Mandrakes are very humorous and creative to RP. Make sure to clean up after yourselves and put your tools away. If you'd like to draw a picture, you can, but it's not required. |

Once again, Mima found herself unwillingly walking towards the Herbology greenhouses, her legs almost deliberately moving much slower than usual. The teacher put on airs of pretension that he clearly didn't have the right to, coming off as...well, Mima couldn't really say what she thought of him without getting in trouble. Not to mention the fact that she plain didn't like Herbology. Mima didn't like getting grubby. She preferred her hands to stay clean. And she preferred to write than to work with plants. And Mima much preferred actual magic to writing. She would have much rather used her hands to play with her beautiful doll collection, or cast spells, not to dig around in dirt. Sighing, Mima listened to the teacher, who seemed unsure in himself of whether he was trying to come across as mean or friendly. Or was Maribelle just thinking that? Mima grimaced. She listened carefully to what the professor was saying, however, and then did just as she was told, pulling on her robes and gloves. Finally, she carefully placed her earmuffs over her ears, blocking out all sound. Well, most of the sound. Having everyone pull out their Mandrakes at the same time was enough for Mima to still hear a dull wailing, even with her earmuffs blocking out sound. It turned out the Mandrake's cry was incredibly potent. The Mandrake itself was incredibly ugly. It was like a newborn baby...but gross. Well, newborn babies, from what Mima had seen, were ugly anyway, but this was worse. Mima held it out at a distance, swinging it between the first and second pot, which only made it cry louder, she assumed. It looked like it was crying louder. It kind of reminded her of Maribelle, in a way. Maribelle was dead before she was born, after all. It seemed to look at her accusingly - on the rare occaision it opened its beady, ugly eyes, and this made Mima flinch and practically drop the ugly thing in to the pot. Another mistake in the eyes of the Mandrake. Frantically, not wanting to see it anymore, she threw dirt around it, while it writhed and screeched. Finally having enough dirt to cover it up, Mima watered it, rocking backwards and forwards on her heels. "Shh, shh, no more, no more..." She waited a few minutes, eyes tightly shut, while everyone else finished theirs up. Feeling horrified and sick, Mima was glad of the opportunity to get away from the Mandrake and go wash up, putting her tools away once they were clean. The image of the horrific...thing staring at her, however, was burned in to her mind. She couldn't help but imagine her sister in place of the Mandrake. Somehow, she'd felt as though she'd stared right in to the abyss, and it had glared back at her. |
