Lesson One:

[justify]     Professor Effie was seated at her large oak desk pouring over a variety of complicated charts and calculations, already preparing lessons for those students who might be successful at reaching the study of Arithmancy beyond fourth year. Some students just didn't have it in them but she understood that Arithmancy wasn't for everyone. If she remembered correctly a lot of her siblings were really bad at it but she ended being skilled with it. Her soft different colored eyes remained focused intently on the information before him until she heard the sound of footsteps. Softly Effie lifted her face and smiled brightly at the entering students. She had an interesting year of lessons planned for the students and she expected that they would enjoy it as well. The expected silence arrived once she rose from her chair, and softly Professor Snow began.

"As you should recall, your first year of study introduced you to the Pythagorean Number System and the Core Concepts. You were required to make precise calculations, make some inferences based upon your results, and ultimately, draw conclusions based upon your understanding of the subject matter and yourself." Professor Snow waved her wand and a familiar looking table appeared on the blackboard to the students left.

Quote:

THE CORE CONCEPTS

Life Path:

The Life Path is at the heart of your being. It tells you what you are really like. Its qualities want to be utilized and acknowledged. It is what is innate and natural for you. It is the vibration in which your soul has chosen to ground its essence.

Birth Day:

Your specific day of birth may direct you to added understanding of what you are here to do. It often combines with other energies to help them develop.

Expression:

The name you were given at birth tells a wonderful story and is what you must be in this life. It is a 'Divine Promise' of opportunity. When embracing the qualities of this vibration, you find that your soul adds to its experiences, knowledge, and growth. In the Expression number, you will find evidence of your purpose.

Heart's Desire:

This vibration comes from the vowels in your name. The vowels are said to be very sacred and in some languages were so respected they were never written. The Heart's Desire provides insight into your soul's deepest urges and values. You will find your most essential motivations here. This part of you also wishes to harmonize with your other core vibrations so that you may express fully all that you are.

Personality:

The information within the Personality gives us an understanding of how others may attempt to see and direct us. It provides us with insight on which aspects of our personality others may recognize and validate. Ultimately, it is the influence the outer world has on us.

Professor Snow lightly surveyed the group around the room and proceeded, assured that she had their undivided attention because they were all quiet and alert. Or so it seemed. "At the end of last year, you were each required to do some preliminary work in the determination of your Life Path and the impact of your Birth Day. The emphasis of this year’s study will be on the latter three elements listed. Today, we will begin with the first element, the Expression." Professor Snow paused her lecture for a moment. She knew that the students would be disappointed that they would not be afforded the opportunity to actually calculated their Expression Number today, but they needed to possess a thorough understanding of what the Expression meant before they could do any interpretation justice. Clearing her throat softly she sighed and started to talk again. "As alluded to earlier, the name given at birth shares the promise of an untold story. The name contains potential direction and points to qualities you can cultivate during your life. By paying careful attention to this vibration, you will realize a wonderful opportunity and a divine promise."

Professor Effie Snow gave the students an opportunity to finish taking some notes and then continued. "The Expression points to purpose, but it is most typical that young people like yourselves are more aware of other core parts during the early stages of their life. As they become comfortable with their other core parts and find ways to balance them, their Expression becomes more evident. As people mature, the destiny actually transforms. As the Expression becomes more integrated it will deepen the connection with other parts. It is as if the other parts are eager to join in and assist in helping attain life purpose." There was much, much more to the Expression, but it would have to wait until next week. Effie didn't want to put too much through their heads. She didn't want to overwhelm them. The students would need to learn patience and he was precisely the professor to offer this important lesson. "That is all for today." She stated in a caring voice as she waved them all to leave. They all looked tired. But it was their first week back so she understood that they were probably getting used to being back at school.

[justify]Entering the Arithmancy classroom quietly, Drew looked around the classroom, before deciding to take a seat near the back of the classroom. Drew usually kept to himself, because it was better than accidently annoying someone, or getting annoyed himself. Unpacking his stuff silently, he looked at the Professor, who also happened to be his Head of House. He hadn't really ever spoken to his Head of House, he mostly kept to himself because that was usually the best thing to do, or so he thought. When the Professor stood, all noise in the room vanished and Drew had to admit, he was impressed by that. Drew looked at the blackboard and frowned slightly. Arithmancy was a class favourite, but he had to work very, very hard to get good marks in the subject, so sometimes it could be stressing. Right now, the Hufflepuff and wrecking his brain to remember, and understand what he was seeing, and boy was it hard. Nodding slowly, Drew became increasingly curious, which was one of the reasons why he found Arithmancy fun, because it made him curious, even if it also managed to confused him and give him headaches from thought, they were pleasent headaches. As the Professor paused in her lecture, Drew took this time to let out a short sigh as he thought of Camille. For some strange reason she seemed to hate him at the moment, and it was really distressing for him. They had been best friends since they were kids, even before Drew found out that he was a wizard, and all through Hogwarts they had been friends, Drew always being the voice of reason, stopping Camille from being stupid. But now she was less than pleasent to him and it annoyed him that he didn't understnad what her problem was, she wouldn't tell him, so how was he to know? Let alone help!?

When the Professor continued, her voice tore Drew from his thoughts and back to the lecture. If he kept daydreaming like that, he'd probably accidently fall asleep or something, now how good would that look in front of his Head of House? Drew was sure she would be over the moon to see one of her students sleeping while she spoke about some very important things. Drew wrote down some plight notes, but nothing too serious, he would probably remember this, and he was planning to visit his current best friend, the library, after class, so if he forgot anything, he'd pick it all back up there. He nodded as the Professor said that that was all for today, which was good, because Drew was already getting that promised headache, it was probably also from a lack of sleep, because in all honesty, who slept during the holidays? Packingup his things, he smiled at Professor Snow, and then left the classroom for the library.

[justify]Justin stretched as his entered the Arithmancy classroom. He still couldn't believe that it was classes already, he felt like he had just come back from France, and he was sure he was suffering from jetlag or something, even if he had been back at the school for a few days already, he was still tired and his body demanded rest. Rest that Justin was denying it, just to see how long he could go without sleep, it would surely be a worthy cause someday, but he was only now starting to feel the effects. He felt like he could fall asleep on the person next to him, which would probably be pretty awkward, for them, Justin wouldn't care how they felt. Sitting down near the back, the Slytherin placing his chin on his palm and stared at the Professor as she stood up and started talking. He was sure she was the Hufflepuff Head of House, not that he really care right now. Listening to her lecture, he was amazed that she was able to keep him awake. Amazing. Shifting his seating position, he crakced his back and continued to listen. It was a pretty interesting lecture, he was sure he'd understand it better when he was fully awake. After his experience in Defence Against the Dark Arts, seemingly a million years ago, he should have known better than to show up and sit through a class half asleep, because he was rather gullible when tired, someone could get him to walk off the Ravenclaw Tower if he were half asleep.

Justin ran his fingers through his hair as he continued to listen to Professor Snow's lecture. Briefly he looked at his cousin, Andy, just to make sure that he hadn't fainted or something or the sort, since he tended to faint at anything, Justin found that most of the time now he was making sure Andy wasn't lying on a floor somewhere, especially since his fathers nearly killed him when they found out how lax he was at making sure Andy was okay, which was stupid, because even though Andy was a weird human being, Justin was quite sure he was able to take care of himself... sort of. He looked back at the Professor when he didn't see Andy dying on the floor and nodded absentmindedly to whatever it was she said, it seemed legit, so he just nodded away, he'd have to check up on everything to make sure it stuck, hopefully he wouldn't have to study with Andy and Hazel, in fact, he'd rather fail at life than study with those two, because the three of them couldn't work together and that was that, it would probably end up with Andy fainted, and Justin trying to kill Hazel, and who wanted that? As the Professor closed up her lecture and dismissed them, Justin nodded and packed up all his things, then left the classroom silently.

Arithmancy was about the only class that Hazel thought she would be free from her cousins. It required a certain level of smarts to attain what it was the Professor Snow was actually saying. Smarts, that within all rights, Justin lacked. She didn't mind having to be with Andy, she could handle him, it was Just Justin and his obnoxious shadow that she couldn't handle. She sighed and shook her head as she entered the Arithmancy classroom. She was too preoccupied to notice the dark hair of her younger cousin as she had just spotted her older cousin Andy. She smiled at him and nodded to him as she knew he would rather not sit next to her. It seemed to her, that for all the work she had done for hr cousins, she really wasn't very well liked amongst them atall. So instead of sitting near Andy, she elected to sit a little ways behind him and pulled out all her books. She liked reading over her texts as the Professor reintroduced them to certain aspects from last year. However, she lost all thoughts of the work when she finally noticed the russet hair of the one cousin she never expected to be sitting next to her in this one pareticular classroom. Staring at him for a good half second, she elbowed him rather painfully before hissing in his ear. "Justin what the hell! Why are you here? You are too stupid for this class. That's what you said."

She could not believe that she was actually sitiing her in the same room as he estranged cousin. Why was this happening to her. She couldn't believe he had been so mean as to lie directly to her face. She remembered back to that conversation, not too long ago. So you aren't going to be in Arithmancy? No-way! Are you kidding? I'm to stupid for that class. Why had she even bothered? She should have known from the get go that it was a straight out lie. It was afterall one of the many skills he had aquired through her. She was so darn gullible when she was young, she apparently still was judging from that little fiasco. She sighed and tried hard to concentrate on the class. But she wasn't having much luck. When it was time for them to leave, she quickly packed her things and legged it to the common room. Justin was the last person she wanted to be with right now.

Gabrylle had finished preparing herself and today she had class. Arithmancy to be precise. The young girl headed out of the common room and skipped her way to the classroom. Wondering what the Professor's lesson would be made the fourth year excited. She was really looking forward to this year's class and she hoped it would be fun. The young girl entered the classroom and took her seat. A few minutes later, class had already begun. Professor Snow had begun by reintroducing Arithmancy and began to look over what they had done in the previous year. The professor then began discussing about this year's lesson. It seemed exciting and she was glad she joined this class. Professor Snow had also discussed to them about Expression. The Gryffindor hadn't fully understood, but she would probably just have to study for it. After class, the young girl left the classroom and headed for the library to do a bit of studying.
