Care of Magical Creatures Professor (Years 5-7)

Harry was very excited for today’s class, he spoilt the fifth years – he really did. He had been lucky in having permission granted to have another port key for today’s lesson but so far he had had a good reputation with his classes that involved him using a port key as he had yet to lose a student or have any accidents but he really didn’t expect that to happen to him at all. Not having much need for a lesson plan today he simply walked around the creatures and tended to whichever creature needed tending too. He had grown to love these creatures in the short time that he had worked here. He loved being around creatures most of the time so he was glad that he had been given the chance to work with them in his job. Not too long after the class had started to gather, seeing a few stragglers at the back he waved them down, he really didn’t have a lot of time to spend today. Doing a quick roll call he saw that all his students were there. “You’re all here, great!” he beamed as he clapped his hands together to hopefully get their attention. “Now I have very little time to explain what will be happening today so it’ll have to wait until we get there, now quickly; grab the kettle.” he told the students, a sound of urgent-ness in his voice as he directed the students to where the kettle was.

In no time at all the familiar surroundings of Hogwarts New Zealand had faded and the class were deep in some bushes. Placing his index finger on his lips he signalled the students to be quiet as there was often some commotion after they transported away from the school, they mostly thought that it was a free class but these trips did have a purpose and they needed to pay attention. While the bushes were vast enough to double as a shield for them it allowed them enough space to see the large and nasty looking troll just ahead of him, something which he pointed out to his class after they quietened down. Having come into contact with this creature before Harry was well enough of the smell but while the bushes acted a shield for them it did nothing to protect them from the foul smell coming from the troll.

Harry mouthed to the class to ‘just watch’ for a few minutes, he had come at a good time to observe the creature. The Troll was busy trying to manhandle a large hump-backed creature with greyish-purple skin that rippled angrily like a dragons scales. It had two horns that shone gold in the sun and oddly enough it walked on four thumbed feet. Abruptly, the Troll, in a rare moment of ingenuity, changed its course of action and offered the creature something tasty to eat. While it was accepting the treat the Troll leapt on its back. The creature reared up and for many long, tense moments there was a fierce struggle as the Troll tried to stay on like a muggle cowboy on a bucking horse.

Professor Thornton whispered to the students in a tense excited voice. "That foolish Troll is attempting to ride that Graphorn. Aptly named, I know" he said referring to the gleaming and deadly looking horns, with a quiet chuckle. "Dangerous beasts they are, arguably stronger than dragons some say. Mountain trolls, try to mount the Graphorn, for some strange reason. If we're quiet enough they shouldn't bother us here." he said, somewhat happy, to observe any creature in its natural surroundings was a great treat to students and learned men in the field alike. Seeing a few students shivering he remembered that this wasn’t exactly like the spring weather they had been experiencing just minutes ago back at school. “Now I would cast incendio, but I don’t want to attract unwanted attention, so you’ll have to do your best to keep warm I’m afraid” Harry said softly, feeling sorry for the children, then again they weren’t the only ones cold as he too was shivering slightly. “Shouldn’t be here too much longer” Professor Thornton reassured the class as he turned his attention back to the two creatures.

Wham! Harry’s eyes widened to amaze as he continued to watch the spectacular show. A body fell to the floor, the Graphorn roared triumphantly. The Troll’s eyes rolled towards the class, but the eyelids closed over, and the breathing stopped. “Quickly now, you don’t want to become the Graphorn’s next victim, grab the kettle!” Harry said in a hushed voice. They got back to the castle grounds, all safe. “Good lesson, huh?” Harry asked. “Well it isn’t over yet.” Harry said with a small smirk, “I promise, it’s short. The Erumpent is a large creature." He said in one breath as he waved his hand and a moving picture appeared before the class, like a projector. The creature moving about looked like a giant Rhino. "Wicked looking horn, huh? Wouldn't want to catch yourself impaled on that one. You see in that horn there is a fluid and once it comes into contact with you. Wham!" he clapped his hands together. "You’ll explode. So you’ll want to show these creatures great respect, well you’d rather not meet this creature in your lifetime." he added, hence why he hadn’t gave them a field trip to see this particular creature. “Right for homework, please come up with a mini saga, between a troll and a graphorn. Now, noting too violent” he said grinning that cheeky smile of his, “Due next week, class dismissed.” he told them all as he watched them walking off before he went to prepare for his next lesson.

Homework:

For full marks: RP the lesson. Please be creative.
For extra credit: Write a mini saga between the two creatures. Again, please be creative.
