Care of Magical Creatures Professor (Years 5-7)

Harry had his first week over him and he felt much more confident now and was less anxious about his lessons this week. Harry didn’t have much preparation to do for today’s lesson so his lesson plan for today was rather simple and having some spare time on his hands before class started Harry paced around the variety of creatures on the school grounds, attending to them and seeing if they needed feed – the usual tasks that he had to do throughout the day every day. He saw that the class had started to arrive and Harry waited for the rest of the class to arrive before he started his lesson. It was now springtime in New Zealand and the weather was much more pleasant that it had been at the start of the year so Harry was glad that they were outside for the lesson so they could enjoy the good weather. Also it was no secret that Harry much preferred being outside compared to being stuck in a classroom all day. Looking up he saw the rest of the class had gathered, taking the roll he confirmed that everyone had arrived.

"Good afternoon everyone, today I hope you agree will be a very interesting lesson. Today we will be studying dragons.” Harry surveyed the room, a mixture of groans and excited mummbles echoed around the area. “Dragons, dragons, where shall I start?” he asked rhetorically, whilst pretending to muse on his question he walked around the students before moving a small crate to show a kettle. “How about a field trip?” he asked with an excited tone. It was all well and good being outside and observing the animals in their natural habitat but there was only so much Harry could offer at the school. “Grab this kettle here, quickly now.” He said, hoping his class would be as excited about this as much as he was. Not before long everyone had gathered around the kettle and once they touched it they disappeared. Harry had become very used to the sensation of travelling via portkey over the years and found it easy to compose himself while he made sure that he hadn’t lost any of his students; his quick headcount confirmed that they were all still there for if he had lost anyone on his first fieldtrip as a Professor he was sure it wouldn’t go well for him.

“Right now we’re here we can get started with today’s lesson. It won’t be hard, I promise.” he told the class with a reassuring smile, field trips were hardly considered as classes in his mind. “Dragons are giant winged, firebreathing reptiles. Widely regarded as terrifying yet awe-inspiring, they can be found all over the world and are frequently referred to in Chinese and medieval European folklore. He started off. There was so much he had to inform the students about for their exams at the end of the year so he made sure to take a pause between his amount of information so he didn’t overload them all so much. “Able to fly and breathe fire through their nostrils, they are one of the most dangerous and hardest to conceal creatures in the wizarding world. The Ministry of Magic classifies them as XXXXX, most dangerous, or known wizard killers. Despite that there are people who are trained to work with them, called dragon keepers” he concluded, figuring he had given them enough information for today, of course if they had any questions he would be more than willing to answer them for his pupils.

“Right you have two hours to wander around, looking at the different dragons making notes and drawings if you desire. Please try not to cause havoc.” Harry said with a wink, knowing how tempting it might be for them to do so. “And please don’t give any grief to the Dragon Keepers. I’m sure they wouldn’t appreciate it, oh and don’t worry you’ll be fully protected against the Dragons. They surrounded by a shield charm which cannot be penetrated. Have fun” he said finally as he handed them all out a map of the area, indicating where specific breeds of dragons were kept and what now, once that was done he too wander off to do some sightseeing himself and maybe talk to a few of the dragon keepers and get some more information that he might have missed out on. Once the two hours were up he gathered all of his students and took them back to the school via the port key with which they arrived. Once they arrived back he did a quick head count and smiled when he saw that everyone was back. “Now, no homework for tonight but just review your notes as dragons may or may not come up on the exam.” he said, not letting anything on to the students but it was always good to be well read on any and all topics to be on the safe side as the NEWTs were not something to be taken lightly.
