Briar saw Minoas head towards her again she realised as he came towards her that the ball was in his other hand. the ball came out squiff he zig zaged and she tried to keep up. where he was going and she realised how a keeper felt when she used the same technique. when he threw the ball she saw it was way out. she went and caught it she then flew over to Minoas. "are you okay?" she asked wanting to check if he hadn't hurt himself. she had recently started realising how easily people could get hurt. she just hoped that she would never hurt anyone. she waited to see if he was okay or wanted a rest. she then realised something interesting about the boy. "you're left handed too? its often a good way to confuse a keeper or the opposing team, especially if you use both hands." she said. It was odd, not many people were left handed but she seemed to be, but she had trained enough to be able to use both hands.

Minoas cursed at the wind as he saw his great technique turning into a pathetic throw. Briar caught the quaffle and flew towards him, asking him if he was alright. "Yeah I'm fine. My knuckles are hurting a bit from my previous attempt but I think they are getting better now." he said as he was opening and closing again and again his left hand to see if there was any pain left. Minoas hadn't really thought of the difference between using different hands. He was using both of them for different tasks but his stronger was his left. "I'm afraid there's no 'yes or no' answer to this. I'm eating with my right hand, I can write with both but I can only use my wand with my left." he just then realised how weird that was. "I guess I prefer my left one for Quidditch too." he indicated as all his previous tries were shot from his left.

"I think it's better now." he said as he took the quaffle from Briar's hands and tested if he could handle it with his left hand. "Let's try it again." he said full of determination.

Briar nodded sympathetically when he said he hurt his knuckles and when he said he was fine she believed him. "well i'm glad you didn't hurt yourself too badly. the zig zaging was good, using different length and directions of zig zags was certainly a good idea, however you cant let that interfere with your shot because no matter how much thought and technique you put into the approach it is the shot that matters." she said, she didn't want to seem like she was drilling him too hard, it was meant to be more for bun than hard training, that would surly come later when he had gotten on the team. "interesting, i mainly use my left hand for things, however i can generally use both except for righting and wand work." she said. she had had enough trouble learning to right that she was happy using just one hand for that. she let him take the quaffle from her and then headed back to the goal again ready for his next try.
[ooc]i have a few ideas. but i will on the whole just muddle it out when i get there.[/ooc]

Minoas made a mental note of what Briar had advised him. She was right. He had to balance the approach with the shot to have a satisfying result. After telling him that she was as well mainly a lefty, she made her way back to her goal posts. When she was ready, guarding again, he flew up high at great speed. He was approaching the position of the goal posts but at the same time he was gaining more and more altitude. His strategy this time was completely different. He wanted to align himself with the sun so it would be difficult for her to watch him coming down to score.

As he had gained the position he wanted, high but with the goal posts not far if he was going for the dive, he hovered for a split of a second and then let himself to be gravitated by the power of the earth. He almost attached his body on his broom for a more aerodynamical performance and closed his eyes for an instant to listen to the howling sound of the wind, being slashed by his broom's tip. His dive was bringing him closer and closer to the goal posts. He was guessing that Briar was having an uncomfortable position now, watching for him in the skies while guarding at the same time. With some luck, the sun would be blocking his arrival to her. Now the goal post were closer than ever. When he was at the right altitude, he threw the quaffle like he was tossing a bowling ball right at the hoop that it was more exposed than the other two. Moments before crashing on the ground from his fall, he pulled his broom's handle upwards and with a great, sideways maneuver, he took back a position at the same level with the goal posts.

Briar was ready for minoas to come and try and score. she started circling and watched as he climbed higher and higher in the sky. it took her a moment to realise what he was doing. it was a pretty smart technique, one that she herself hadn't thought of much to be honest. he vanished in front of the sun and although she was anticipating his approach she wasn't sure when it would come. suddenly out of the blue a figure came aiming for the goal furthest away from where she was now. she tried to catch it but it managed to get there before she reached it and she was briefly left reaching for empty air, she then turned and went after the ball whilst minoas regained altitude. "that was brilliant. a good technique, but it con only be used when the sun is out, and you are shooting the right way. but i think you have got the hang of shooting." she said. "do you wan't to have a break, and then work on passing" she asked starting to descend. she could do with a bit of water and some food. she was starting to feel a little ill, she knew that there was a full moon coming, but she didn't say anything. There was no way she was going to tell anyone exactly what happened during the holiday, at least not yet, and it was just something that she would have to get used to. She didn't want to tell Madlyn as she didn't want to cause her any more trouble and she couldn't tell anyone before her sister.

Minoas hovered back to his position and celebrated his score by flying in a vertical circle. He couldn't believe it that he had managed to score successfully. As Briar was approaching him to congratulate him, he was thinking of names for his new technique. "Indeed! I came up with it pretty randomly!" exclaimed the young gryffindor, glad that the experienced prefect was finding his technique a good one. "I'm gonna name it helios' dive!" he continued with his grey eyes radiating excitement. "True, the sun is necessary for this but I think that charging from above puts the keeper in a vulnerable position as he has to look up and can't calculate with precision which goal posts are safe." he pointed out the advantage of that technique whether the sun was an ally or not. "It can be also a disadvantage for the performer. I could have easily crashed on the goal posts or in the ground." he referred to the main drawback. He didn't care though.

Still excited he accepted the break that Briar offered. "Yeah let's have a break. I could use some water. Zeus I'm thirsty!" he exclaimed as he followed Briar to her descention. As he feet touched again the ground, he noticed that Briar was looking worned out. "Are you okay? Was I hard on you?" he wondered if it was the fault of his determination to score.

briar laughed when he said that he came up with it randomly. "well it was a good idea, i think i may use it occasionally, and that is an interesting name for it" she said, personally she didn't name most of her moves as she felt like that would make them feel separate and not one big move, but she knew many people who did. "yep crashing into the floor, or goals isn't a good plan as even if you score then points there is a chance you could be out of the game for injury" she said. "I will be down in a minute I just want to see if i still have my eye in" she said taking the quaffle for one final attempt at a goal before going to land. she headed in from the side from the height of the centre goal making it look like that was where she was heading, however at the last minute she leaned sideways rolling her broom upside down and tossed it into the side goal nearest to her. that was her favourite goal technique to pull off, it usually confused the other players like crazy why sly liked it but for her it was fun, she quite liked flying upside down. she shot after the ball and then landed by the benches.
she sat down and reached for her water bottle. she took several large mouthfuls of the liquid before answering her friends question. "I'm fine, I just haven't been sleeping that well. you played hard but I am used to it after years of training sessions and i did a lot of flying over the break." she said reaching into her bag and pulling out a couple of steak sandwiches, "do you want one?" she asked offering one to him.

Minoas went for the benches. Only when he sat down he realised how much tired he was as he was trying to catch his breath. He watched Briar using one of her own techniques to score. It was really impressive as well. Minoas wondered how much time the girl had spent on practising to become that good. As Briar was coming towards him, he made a pact with himself to visit the quidditch pitch several times per week and practise as much as he could. Regardless if he was going to make it into the team or not.

"I can totally understand you. I have trouble sleeping as well. I guess is the change of climate again, I'll get used to it." he nodded as he had the same problem. Right after his return from his holidays, he had trouble sleeping. He used to star gaze until the dawn to get sleepy and then sleep until noon. He had to fix that if he wanted not to miss any lessons in the near future. "Yeah, sure. Thanks!" he accepted kindly her offer and took one sandwich, not really knowing what it contained. He took a bite and when he made sure that there was no boiled egg, he started chewing before talking again. "So, except from flying, what else did you did during the break?"

Briar was glad that minoas didn't ask how she wasn't sleeping well. "yep, something like that. where did you go? did you have a good time? she asked he looked like he had been the sun. se gave him one of the sandwiches hoping that he liked it. when he asked about her break she smiled, she had enjoyed her holiday, well most of it. the stay in the hospital was the worst bit. "despite the bad weather I went camping in the mountains, totally living off the land, it was pretty good, similar to what i did when i was a kid." she said. she was pretty sure he would ask her about her childhood, and now she didn't care. she trusted the boy, and her sister had told another student about her past anyway, she had been lucky that it was one of the two students who knew already, but even so she didn't see why she had to keep it s secret when Aspen didn't. even so she would only tell those she trusted. she took a bite of her sandwich it was pretty nice.

Minoas couldn't help but smile when he realised that Briar was studying his tan. He swallowed first the big bite he was chewing and answered. "My family decided to see relatives back in homeland so we went for a tour at the Greek islands. I met again my grandparents, my uncles, my cousins, we even paid a visit to my mother's muggle parents." he said still surprised for that as they had to speak with their witch daughter for years. His muggle grandparents were always looking oddly at him and his brothers. Like they were expecting that their grandchildren were going to do something catastrophic. Which wasn't really wrong if you had for grandchildren Theseus and Perseus, Minoas' younger brothers. "Unfortunatley, we couldn't visit again the island where my father was born, where the Stratis family originates." he said and thoughtful took another bite. He had visited the island of Aeaea only once. And that happened illegally as his father was banished for marrying a muggle-born.

Minoas shook his head to cast away his thoughts. "Generally I had a blast. I really like the sea and we were all the time near beaches. We visited our old home, we had some hiking by the gorge near it. I also learnt surfing with my older cousin. It was absolutely great!" he said, nodding as he was finishing his sandwich with a large bite. He just then realised how much hungry he was. His holidays sounded so nice but Briar's were also interesting and adventurous. However, something that she had just said was keep echoing in his head like gong's sound. "I think you have told me that you never met your parents right? With who you used to go for camping when you were younger?" he asked curiously as Briar never mentioned with who he grew up. The word 'relatives' she was using was broadly generic.

Briar was always interested when her friends visited heir family. she had never had the same pleasure. her parents had dumped her in the forest when she was a few hours old, and it was only luck that the passing centaurs had heard her and decided to take her in. "that seems like a pretty good holiday. summer and family seems good. how come you didn't go to your fathers home?" she said, she didn't feel bad in asking him as she was going to tell him one of her two deepest secrets.
briar was ready for the question this time there would be no dodging it it would be the truth. "I never met my family, but they really have done nothing for me. you know when you said that you had a centaur tutor. well i had a whole family of them. I was brought up as part of a herd, adopted by the chief and his mate. that was the childhood i had, i never set foot in a building until i was eight, and that was only briefly, never slept in a bed until i was eleven." she said, it felt strangely easy telling him this, it may have been meeting her sister again, or it may be because she had her own dark secret now. either way it wasn't as hard to tell him as it had been last year.

Minoas' jaw slowly dropped as he was listening awestrucked to Briar's childhood. He knew that she was hiding something but that was completely out of his imagination. That was something similar they had those two. He might hadn't exactly been brought up by a centaur but he was taught by one, several arts as well as how to use a sword and a bow. "You have a pretty unique and awesome family there. Do you visit them?" he asked after he had overcomed the first shock. The way he asked was like he hadn't just heard something unusual, the way he would ask anyone about their family. "Wow! I can only just imagine how great it would be to grow up with those intelligent creatures. I really admire my tutor. Everything he says sounds so philosophical and inspiring." he said as his eyes got lost into the sky with the scattered clouds in the horizon.

His daydream ended ingloriously. He felt like he was falling from the spot he was gazing up in the sky when Briar asked him why they couldn't visit his father's birthplace. He hesitated for a moment, wondering if it would be right to say it. Briar had just confessed a huge secret about her life that usually you don't tell pretty often if you don't trust somebody. His grey eyes met hers. Briar had trusted him so he could trust her in return.
"It's a big story actually. Like Brightstone village or Hogsmeade village in Scotland, there are several other places in the world that only magical communities live there. My father was born in such a place. An island, somewhere hidden in Mediterranean Sea, called Aeaea." he paused for a moment before he continued his story. He wanted to say everything in the right sequence. "If you are familiar with muggles' mythology, Aeaea was the island of the sorceress Circe. What muggles don't know and most wizards and witches who are not from the region, Circe established a city there only for wizards and witches. With the years her descendants expanded her community. At first even muggle-born wizards and witches were allowed but later they changed the rules. Half-bloods and purebloods only could be accepted to come to the island and live there. Of course after they had been allowed first." he stopped once more to see how he was going to continue his story-telling.

"My father is a pure-blood, from one of the seven families that claim to be coming straight from the bloodline of sorceress Circe. When he became an adult he left the island to chase his dream of studyig magical creatures. He met my mother who is a muggle-born. They married, they had me and my brothers. He knew that he could never return back to his parents and brothers, not with my mother at least. I and my brother are allowed to go as we are mixed bloods. One day my father had the risky idea to get us to the island. He wanted to introduce us to our grandparents and the rest of his family as well as to introduce to them my mom." he took a sour expression as he was remembering that day. "The island is hard to be found. It moves around the sea, changes location. Only someone who had lived or visited in the past can find it or if they had acquired permission." he explained about the nature of Aeaea. "We went to the island illegally as my father brought my mother as well. I finally met my grandparents, the rest of my family. It was so nice..." he muttered in a longing voice that was going to be followed with a 'but'. "However, our arrival didn't remain secret and we had to leave as we were trespassing laws. We managed to escape and return back to our home, in another island. It seemed that we had escaped for good but after a couple of years our home and where we were living was discovered and they came to arrest both my dad and mom." he took a deep breath, remembering the reasons that his family had to leave their country.

"We made a narrow escaped. My father was almost caught. We had to live for a while in caves of a nearby gorge. As soon as my parents realised that we couldn't return back to our home, we started living in muggles' summer houses, changing really often our place of residence. In the end, my father decided that we should leave completely the country and go somewhere else to continue our lives. And now we are here..." he said and stretched his arms, leaving a soft sigh. "We are still wanted. They are looking for us but my father says that we are safe here. Of course now you can see that our holidays back home weren't that careless. We had to be in constant vigilance. We were meeting family in different islands so we won't get caught." he finally finished his story after a long, long narration. He turned and faced Briar to see her reaction. He had just trusted her with his biggest secret. He hadn't say to anyone else about his origins and the reasons why his family decided to travel from Greece to New Zealand.

briar was surprised at how easily he was taking her story, it was actually funny watching his expression change because of it. however the next question made her think a little. "they were a pretty cool family. unfortunately then i left to be a witch they basically told me that i was no longer art of the herd and kicked me out. I haven't seen any of them sine my eleventh birthday, except one. Aspen who was like my sister has been kicked out too, and has some how made her way to the school and is living in the forrest." she said, wondering if minioas would go looking for her, knowing the boy he probably would, she just hoped that he wouldn't get caught up in the wrong part of the forest like her stepfarther had done the year before. "it was a great childhood, a lot simpler than most i would imagine" she said.
when he cam to answer her question she had expected a short answer like we ran out of time, or even we aren't allowed there. however he gave his families story. it was really interesting she had obviously heard of wizard only communities but she had never thought that where were wizard only islands, and she had certainly never thought that islands could move around. "I have never heard of Aeaea, or circe, maybe i would have done if i listened in a history of magic." she said after he first paused. she then listened to the rest of the story it was pretty amazing. "wow you seem to have a pretty unique childhood there yourself. all of the moving around, i can relate to but not in the same way" she said, the reason her family moved to get food mainly, not to escape the law. "your farther seems like a pretty brave man, putting aside his life to be with your mother." she said before pausing to finish her sandwich that had sat forgotten in her hand as minoas told his story. "it must have been nice to meet your grandparents though even if you had to keep a constant eye out for trouble." she said.

"Nice! At least you have your sister around here than having no one. I'm sure your centaur family still cares for you. It's just their rules that they had to do that in the end." he tried to raise Briar's spirits. Centaurs had feelings as well. If they had brought up Briar they would have done that with care and love. And love was an everlasting emotion. If it could be called an emotion.

Minoas had felt as if a huge load has been lifted out of him. It was something that he always wanted to share with someone trustful and he was glad he did. He was feeling a lot better than before that he had to keep it sealed within him. "I'm not surprised that you haven't heard about the island, although if you were a fan of transfiguration you would know that my ancestor was a pioneer in that area of magic. She was transforming muggle sailors that were intruding her island into hogs and she had a whole army of bewitched beasts under her command." he said with an awkward smile as he could imagine her palace's courtyard full of freaked out pigs, running around. "But yes the island is generally kept secret. You can't imagine how beautiful it is though. Fields, vineyards, olive groves, ancient temples, palaces, sandy beaches and misty mountains. It would be so nice if it was open to the public." he said with glazed eyes, looking in the horizon.

When Briar referred to his father, Minoas felt instantly proud for him. The young Gryffindor had a special bond with his father. It wasn't only a son and father relationship. They were companions, soul mates and friends. "I really hope to be at least a little like him when I grow up. There is one thing that he always advises me. When I can't say what is right or wrong, I should ask my heart. It always knows." he shared the inspirational words his father was telling him every time Minoas had to be separated from his family. "I guess he did the same thing. He might have sacrificed other parts of himself but I see that he's happy now." he said and looked away by turning his head away from Briar. He felt his eyes warm which meant that they were filled with tears. He managed to hold them while he was pretending that he was watching a loud flock of crows, emerging from the tree tops of the forbidden forest. When he was sure that he was looking again cheery he turned again to Briar and continued. "Yeah my grandparents are awesome people too. I wish I could spend more time with them as well but I'm content that I had the opportunity to see them again." he said thankful for having the chance even though it was risky. After all that soul-opening, he realised how many things he had in common with Briar. They were both in some way casted away, yet they were both strong and ready for life.

Minoas stood up with a wide smile. Their break had taken too long with all the chit chat. "Ok coach! Let's get moving! What's next?" he said as he was picking up his broom, ready to mount it again.

Briar nodded when he said at least she had a sister near by. "yep, i really should try and find her again, I've only seen her once since I left them, and then it wasn't the best time for a catch up." she said remembering how shocked she had been when Madlyn had dragged her down to the forrest, it had just not been right trying to catch up six years worth of time whilst trying to find the body of your adopted farther. then the end of year had happened too fast and she hadn't had chance to go back.
she laughed when he said that the hadn't been paying attention in transfiguration. and that his ancestor had been a pioneer in transfiguration. she laughed it was only a small chuckle but it was the first real laugh she had given all week "you caught me, that class was never my favourite, but always a good time to look out of the window at the grounds and plan an adventure or wok on quidditch moves in my mind" she said smiling. "it sounds like a really beautiful place" she said trying to imagine it. she smiled when he said that he was proud of his farther and saw a slight glint in his eyes when he spotted of him. she put her arm around his shoulders in a comforting manner. "I am sure that you will be like him when you are older, you have already faced acromantula and a furious Professor Kingsley (which in some respects is worse)" she said letting him go, she had almost said one more thing but thankfully she had stopped herself. she wasn't anywhere ready for her latest adventures to be out in the open yet. she was glad that she had shared what she had with her friend brother (well that is what he was to her now, if he liked it or not)
she smiled as he got up ready to fly again. "Are you ready to practice passing?" she asked it was one thing that she had noticed was poor about the team the precious year, they went in tune with each other and that could be seen by their lack of passing, she knew that she was also to be blamed as a ball hog. she picked up the quaffle feeling a lot better than before and heading to the centre of the pitch.
